Hello everyone… is it advisable to apply for student visa less than one month of receiving a refusal for visitor’s visa. Reason for refusal was for planning to spend more than half of balance of bank statement submitted for the trip. Got March admission for Cranfield

Maximum you can buy per person is 4k for PTA and 5k for BTA, I bought 4k on Monday @N371 and wifey bought 4k @N356 too when she was travelling earlier in September which is the maximum we are eligible for.

Passport was stamped on the last page.

The basic challenge is the amount of time spent attending to one person, without exaggerating they spend averagely >45 mins attending to one person.

With respect to payment…..Though it is displayed they accept cash but on both occasions they refused to collect cash. You need to ensure you have all the money in accounts/cards bearing your name as they refused to accept cards with names different from the person travelling. Also it is important you confirm your bank’s daily POS limit (and ask your bank to increase your limit) as this was a challenge for some people and they couldn’t get all the amount they want. Most cards didn’t allow more than 1 million, and some were even as low as 500k. No one did wire transfer while I was there but they said they can accept it but it was not encouraged as they said they will have to confirm they have received the money in their account before they can proceed.

With respect to BVN, they no longer accept the option of checking your BVN via your phone using the code, they insisted you had to present your BVN card and for someone like me that didn’t have, I used a printout I got from the bank and this was what most people used as well.
Dollars were not given at the counter like they did when my wife travelled in Sept. I got it at the boarding gate.

Got to the airport around 12 noon though my flight was for 11:30pm cos of our experience when my wife was travelling. Was able to get around 10:00pm.

You need to brace yourself as it could be chaotic as the security personnel are not able to maintain order. When I got there, we were asked to write our names by the security personnel and take note of our number on the list. The list was used for some hours before it was discontinued and everyone was asked to line up and the queue will be used (unfortunately, I was away at this point to check in my bags) as this was why I also didn’t get on time.

Based on my experience on the day my wife was travelling and the day I was travelling too, with due respect to all concerned, only one of their four attendants knows what she is doing and very efficient as she spends averagely less than 15 mins attending to one person. She is dark in complexion and will be in her mid 20s or early 30s. The queue she is attending to (no matter how long) is your best bet if her shift is the one on duty. Be on the lookout for her

There is a fair lady who should be in her late 30s…. please do not join the queue she is attending to even if the other queue is 10 times longer as I can assure you all the others on the other queue would have been attended to before it gets to your turn. She leaves her seat repeatedly for over 30 minutes without saying a word to anyone and even when she is on her seat, she spends not less than 1 hour attending to one person. She finds it hard to answer your question ……………. And so on.

The only man in their midst, is not very different from the fair lady but he is better as he stays on his seat though he is also very slow.

The fourth lady in her mid 20s and very very fair in complexion (wears glasses) is better than these other two but it seems she’s got other responsibilities in all fairness to her.

Very sorry for the long epistle….. hope it helps

Topnotch22:
@oye84 pls what it like buying with travelex.... was the maximum you could buy per person 2k each or yu just opted to buy 4k for yourself alone, did it take time??., did you have to get there very early and how soon did you get the dollar, was you passport stamped?? Etc.... I'm sorry for all the questions, I just want to be prepared.
Thanks

Thanks Temi
I was able to book my baby’s ticket exactly as you advised with Airfrance for $86.
I was told I had to book a one-way ticket when I made the first call and despite my insistence, the lady said it was not possible and I told her Thank you and dropped the call.
I immediately dialled again and the lady this time also first gave me the one-way ticket story and I insisted she double-checked and she then came back after keeping on the line for like 10 minutes and said I could book a return ticket for $86. Also, while she said she was double checking, I was already praying seriously in tongues and I know God did it.
I need to also mention that when I called the first time, I was connected to Delta airline SC and the second number I dialled connected me to Airfrance SC. I earlier got three different numbers at the airport when I arrived Houston.

Nnystc:
wink wink wink cheesy wink
Okay guys.
I was going to post this on my return, as part of a fancy 'missionary journey' post... once I settled down... But that day when I finally settle down doesn't seem to be near the horizon (been sleeping like someone on drugs!). And I realized that the more I wait, the worse for those who may have benefitted. So here goes:

I was able to reduce my infant ticket from earlier quotes of $469 (one way ticket) and $593 (return ticket with option of claiming back cost of one leg).
My flight was on KLM.

How did I do it?
After all the grammar they were speaking, I got inspiration from above to do the following:
1- search flights originating from your departure airport (in my case LA-Lagos-LA). These flights are cheaper than Lagos-LA-Lagos, and as baby is an American citizen, you are within his rights to do this.
2- Baby's departure date should be the same date you're leaving US.
3- For Baby's return date, search the airline website for the cheapest date you can find no matter how close or far apart the outward and return dates are.
4- once you get a good combination, call the airline and tell them you want to add your baby to your ticket. If they ask for the itinerary, give them the dates you have searched. They should then give you a cost of 10% of that booking cost.
If they tell you no seat, be ready to defend ya case. Baby is a lap infant and doesn't need seat, you just want to take advantage of the good deal you found.
5- if they ask questions be ready to defend your position. In my case they asked how will baby use the return leg? My response was that I will either book my ticket to tally with his return leg when the time comes, or claim a refund on that leg, or allow the ticket to lapse if I'm unable to travel on his return date.
6- If you get a good rate pay IMMEDIATELY! No dulling!

After doing this my final ticket cost for baby was $91.66 and it was a non-refundable ticket but I didn't mind.

So far this worked for me on KLM and for another NL mum (who I shared the info with) traveling on BA.

I want to believe it should work for other airlines too.

So ladies, all the best as you try this. Make sure you come and give your testimony when it works for you oh!!! wink wink wink

Ogz and kizzez!!

Happy Sunday to everyone …………. Many thanks to everyone who has taken time to share their experience(s) with others……. The likes of me are greatly indebted

My family (DH, DW and Little Daughter) went for our interview 2 Fridays ago. God was evidently at work and the interview couldn’t have been better….. here is the transcript

DH: Good morning (lifts up and put daughter on the counter).
VO: Good morning, your passport please,
DH: Gave him 3 passports
VO: Why are you going to the US?
DH: To have our baby
VO: Where?
DH: Houston
VO: Can you describe what you do
DH: I currently work as …………….. with …………………….. Limited and my responsibilities include………………. ( Work s with an FMCG in a middle management role)
VO: What kind of machines do you use for manufacturing ………………….. ? (mentions product made where DH told him he works)
DH: Mentions 4 different kinds of machine
VO: and what do you do (directs question to DW)
DW: I work as ……………………………………………. (Self-employed)
VO: Which countries have you visited in the past
DH: Kenya, Uganda and Ghana. On official assignments to Kenya and Uganda and on holiday with friends to Ghana
DW: Ghana, to attend an event
VO: What would this trip cost you?
DH: Between 11-12k excluding accommodation as we will be staying with a family friend. We have contacted a doctor and have gotten an estimate of the cost of her services and also have an estimate of the hospital and Paediatrics fees.
VO: Can you give me a breakdown
(DH tries handing over the budget sheet and VO says…. Just read it to me)
DH: Just mentioned the name of all expense items we had on the budget sheet without mentioning their respective cost (Obstetrician , hospital fee, paediatrician, laboratory and pathology, flights, circumcision, baby’s documentation, living expenses)
Remembered @Phema and said a prayer for her inside of me…. God will continue to Bless You
VO: How long will you be staying?
DH: My wife will be staying for 3 to 4 months while I will be staying for just 3 weeks to be present during delivery
VO continues to type…………. Daughter was stretching to touch the light bulb and DH continuously tried to restrain her… and DH said you can’t touch the light and said you can ask him (VO) for permission to touch it ….. VO said with laughter it will only burn you if you do
VO: How will you be getting the dollars you need?
DH: We will be getting $8,000 through PTA from the bank as we are eligible for just $8,000 and we will be sourcing the rest from Bureau D’ Change
VO: That is the best answer I have heard on how they intend to get FOREX
VO continues to type and then hands over the white paper and says you can pick up your passports …………………. Didn’t hear the rest of what he said

Even though we diligently followed Phema’s list of Burden of Proof…………….No document was requested for, not to talk of checking them…….. We can only say thank you to God and to every one of you.

Next na POE for Houston and we know Baba God still dey gidigba for His throne and is still at work….. Will be sharing the success story.
Wishing all everyone success all the way

My people...devil no wan gree me enter Nairaland but God pass am. Bin trying to sign in after I gave my POE story. I got in May 17th and left June 29th.
Had my baby on the 10th of June
I used Oakbend Medical Centre and Dr E( fab as usual) and una sabi d usual bill and all. I wanted to get back to naija with United last flight (29th June), so I decided to change my return ticket from July 5th to 29th June, leaving me with just 19days to process all docs but God was super fateful.

Processed all my baby's docs in less dan a week. Only SSN took longer and it took 8working days to drop.

1. Picked up birth certificate at fort bend county and paid $23 for a copy
2. Same day, Headed straight to passport office in downtown on 1919 smith street . Took passport photograph for $17 (2 copies) directly opposite passport office in downtown. Paid $165 for expedited and was asked to come pick up ffg day.
3. Scanned baby's birth certificate to Mrs Stella with all necessary docs. I did ETC and paid $300. It arrived after 5days via FedEx
4. I called United to attach baby to my tic
5. Headed back to Naija.

Stayed with my host but left for Soulcare Concierge when my mum arrived. Make all of us no becum liability.

Hi,

I probably made a mistake in the process of scheduling an appointment for myself, wife and kid and I just saw a drop box confirmation letter and my intention was to schedule an interview.

I tried using the same receipt numbers to do the right thing but got error messages about the validity of the receipt numbers.

Kindly advise on what I can do.

Thank You

Hi,

I would like to confirm if I have made a mistake during the application process as the appointment wait time on this website https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/general/wait-times.html made me believe I can get an earlier appointment time in abuja in comparison to lagos as their wait time are like 30 days apart as at this morning with an information that it was last updated as at today.

However at the point of trying to schedule an appointment on this site https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/scheduleappointment the first available appointment time is like 30 days different from the one available on the previous site.

Can you kindly help clarify

Thank You

Hi,

I would require clarification on the category of visa between B1/B2 or B2 to select when completing the DS 160 form as my wife's primary reason for the trip is to have our baby in the US

Thank You
TravelRe: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We’re Listening by oye84: 8:20pm On Jul 11, 2016
Hi, I am currently completing my DS160 application form and would require some clarification on completing the travel companions section.

My wife intends having our next baby in the US and they (her and my daughter) will be leaving by September while i intend joining them in December and we (self, wife, daughter and new baby) will all be returning together to Nigeria. However, we are all just applying for visa and will be attending the visa interview as a family.

Am I expected to select "YES" for the question "are there others travelling with you" huh

Secondly if I select "YES" am I supposed to included the details of the unborn baby on the list of those travelling with me, even though he does not have GIVEN NAMES yet

Thank You
