springer:I've not been to Liberia but lived in the Gambia. Gambia is decent and relatively peaceful. Business moves there, but dangan dangan (small small). Teaching jobs pays on an average of 50k/month, but then, you can extra with house lessons up to 200k/month. It all depends on grace, hard work, and luck. As for Liberia, I've no info about them. |

slimanyd:Yes, it's true. All the traveling members of the family will do the TB test |
Firmino is currently better than Richardlison |
bizzibodi:But the purchasing power is weak due to they don't produce what they eat. They depend on importation in almost every aspect. It's their tourism that brings in a lot of Forex for them. |

Munachimso30:For importation, import from Nigeria. Bitter kola, Long women dress, Bottle Stout, all these herbal drinks like Alomo and the types. Then export back home dried fish. For retailing, Cheap second clothes, shoes, bags, Nigerian food, car parts esp Mercedes as they use it for their taxi, motorcycle/bicycle parts. AlphaTaikun:Yes, I'm into Travel and Tours in The Gambia. The global economy affected almost all countries but not that bad in The Gambia like in Ghana. We had inflation but didn't hit bad. Thanks for dropping by. Firefox01: Their women are mostly black with hourglass shape... But not as neat as Nigerian girls. They have classic girls though, but the locals are more. You have to be careful with their women by the way, especially those 22yrs and below. It can be turned as rape or child abuse, one have to spend over half a million to pull out from that or spend many years in jail. |
Perfectman91:They don't have black market. A Dalasis (D, Gambian Currency) to USD is around D57. D57 is like #600. |
Wilson500:Yes. Though upside down English ![]() |
JoeLohic:Language. They speak more of their local language than English. Identifying Nigerians is easy for them as well. |
maiunguwar:Not any more. Nigerians were allowed before but later got banned. Only Gambians are now allowed. I'm sure Senegalese also operate, because both of them are almost same. JoeLohic:No. Nigerians are not allowed to go into transport in The Gambia. The rooms will contain bathroom and toilet and kitchen. Munachimso30:Business in The Gambia is a vast topic, narrow it down so I know how to answer. |
Zeel007:By road, 120k estimate for transport. I've posted air travel fare before. 90k for 6 months rent at 15k per month. This will be a room or if you're lucky, a room and parlor. Getting a teaching job in Sec Schools is a bit easier for Nigerians. The pay can be from 30k to 60k per month depending on school. You can also do study (home lesson). I know someone that makes more than 120k/month only on home lesson, while school pay him 50k. If you're into business, starting maybe hard because so many Nigerians, Senegalese and other foreigners are into business already. But with time, you can catch up and get going. |
AllDModsAreMaad:If you have 1st class or 2.1, go for scholarship. Check out scholars4dev.com AllDModsAreMaad:Business is cool there but you have to consider that retailers buy on credit. The amount depends on the business. If you want to go into importing food stuffs, drinks, etc... 500k won't be bad. You just need to fond the correct people and understand the business before you start. Don't jump into it. AllDModsAreMaad:They like make-up but most of them don't have that huge amount Nigerians pay for make-up. I know hairs/weavon does well there, Nigerians already dominated that area. |
oluomo2013:I'm not privy to this information. The lecturer I know in The Gambia is doing her Phd in University of Ibadan. |
doggedfighter:Hello, so I promised to get back to you. They have the BSc Nursing and the Registered Nurse (RN). The BSc is 3,700USD/year. It's a 4 years course. Admission into BSc Nursing have closed for the session. The RN is 31,000 Dalasis (Around 320k naira)/year. This one is 3 years course. Application form for RN will be out by Novemeber. |
Nwaotu10:I guess you're joking ![]() In real sense, the job available in The Gambia for most Nigerians is teaching. Others are into business. adubam:Impossible is nothing. Warmaterial:Not really that developed like most Nigerian cities. But they have this Senegambia district, most people there are whites from America, UK, etc. The place looks nice a bit, and the rent there is a bit on the high side but you can be lucky. Most of their hotels are in this area too. It's hard to compare the place with a particular city. Somehow you'll see it like some Northern towns with shabby houses (No insult intended). They're mostly Muslim, so there's this connection with the North. But the main town is bubbling with businesses and shops here and there. Somehow like what I witnessed in Ibadan some few years ago. Don't expect 3 storey building and above like we have in the East, Lagos, etc... You can see them, but just a handful. Gambia is really a Nice place for vacation. Instead of spending huge money in Dubai, you can get a great experience in The Gambia with much less amount. I hope I tried, this one hard me ![]() |
virginchaser:Where did you see that? |
Evidenx:Accommodation is somewhat like what you'll find in some Nigerian cities. A bedroom and parlor can go for D1,000 to D1,700 which is like #1,500 to #18k per month depending on location. These days, finding an apartment is hard as people are trooping into the country. You can get a room for D600, but that'll be in a public compound. Good 2 bedroom flat can go as high as D3.5k to D7k per month. That's like #37k to #75k (I'm just approximating the exchange). Normally, rents are paid monthly but some Landlords will request a year, 6 months, or 3 months initial payment. |
Evidenx:Generally, the people are friendly to everyone. Sometimes, depending how you relate with them, you may experience insults from them. But if you're someone that don't mingle and play recklessly with them, you're good. There's a high population of Nigerians over there, Igbos, Yorubas, Edos, Deltans, etc. |
doggedfighter:I forgot to mention that you can also travel by road. From Lagos to Benin Republic, then enter bus from there to Gambia. Most will stop by Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, before entering The Gambia. If you're lucky, the journey will take 5 days, sometimes it takes up to 10 days. On average, 7 days. I've not taken that route before but I have friends who travel this route up to 3 times in a year to and fro. It used to be around 70 to 100k naira, but should be up to 90 to 150k naira by now. If you have money, use flight. |
Evidenx:95% very peaceful Muslim. The Gambia is one of the most peaceful countries. There are Churches, RCCG, Winners, Anglican, Catholic, Mountain of fire, etc... And most of their banks are Nigerian Banks. Like GTB, Access, Eco, FBN, and Zenith. |
doggedfighter:I made a mistake, 30,000GMD is around 320k naira please. doggedfighter:No VISA needed to travel to The Gambia, your Passport is all you need. Last I checked, there was flight for #200k one way. I normally use Airpeace, my last flight with them was around #200k but I ran a search now and the price is #270k. (See attached). I searched Oct through Feb, and it's the same price. doggedfighter:I will get this information and revert back to yo here on this thread latest tomorrow.
|
ChybuzzDD:Not at all. The Gambia is an ECOWAS Country, you're good to go with just your Green Passport. |
doggedfighter:Yes doggedfighter:Around 30,000 Dalasis per session which is like 320,000 naira currently. If you're serious about this, I have someone lecturing in their University, I can get the full details for you. I will reply on this thread for others to get the information too. doggedfighter:Very easy. Nothing like JAMB. You just need 5 credits in the 5 main science subjects - ENG, MAT, BIO, PHY, & CHE. doggedfighter:1,000 Dalasis (Gambian Currency) will give you roughly 10,450 Naira currently; exchange fee included. I hope this helps. |
Hello Guys, I opened this thread for those that want to travel to The Gambia, do business (including import and export), or just travel for vacation/tour. The Gambia is a small West African Country with roughly around 2million people in population. With virtually no natural resources, The country depends 'almost' on Tourists, Tasks, and Foreign intervention to survive. Gambia enjoys almost 24 hours electricity in most of the towns, clean steady/healthy tap running water, with lots of Foreigners in the Country. I happened to tour many sites in the country, they have beautiful hotels. Most of their hotels are beach hotels like... Kairaba Beach Hotel, Senegambia beach Hotel, Kalimba Beach hotel etc. There are many Nigerians there, and Nigerians export items like bitter kola, alcohols, bitter drinks, food items, etc... On return, they import Fish from there. The Gambia has fish, and they're cheap there. Many Nigerian students are there as well schooling and working. Let me stop here. In case anyone want to go for vacation or want to learn something from The Gambia, drop your questions and I'll answer here. Please, all questions and answers will be here on this thread, not PM.
