I read your post and out of curiosity, how does your advice help a company based on the scenario the guy painted? If my concern is that I spend money to hire and train an employee who then leaves when I'm supposed to be getting ROI, how does deducting a % of their monthly pay cover my loss if I still have to pay them back once they resign? Anyways, based on the law, what you have stated up there can't stand any legal scrutiny. Similar opinions have been tested at the NIC and failed. Perhaps some mushroom company may elect to do that in the hopes that nobody will sue them but that doesn't mean it's legal and it certainly shouldn't be posted on a public forum as an advice.

If you know any compensation and benefits specialist or employment lawyer, show them what you posted, I guarantee that their response will be similar to mine. Unless it is a statutory deduction, you cannot legally impose any other deductions on an employee's pay under any guise without the employee freely consenting to it.

Y'all just pull these stuffs out of nowhere and post with so much confidence. You will deduct money from an employee's pay because they resigned? In an "at will employment" country? The only event where a company get's a dime from an employee upon resignation is if it's done without notice.. and it goes both ways actually, the employee also gets about a month's pay if their contract is terminated without notice.

I won't descend to the "name calling" level you seem to want to play at. I maintain that such a law doesn't exist in the US or anywhere on earth for that matter. Post that law here to proof otherwise.

People, what he wrote about jobs being guaranteed by virtue of attending an interview is not true any where in the world.

To the OP, you did the right thing the wrong way. All you had to do was politely decline and state your reasons.

Here is one of the reasons why it's difficult to develop as a people. We always look for ways not to hold ourselves/families/loved-ones/tribes-men/leaders (political & spiritual) accountable. You could do literarily anything and an African will come up with an excuse to explain away what you did but will never hold you accountable.

Have you wondered if so many people who perhaps also "had life happen to them" lost the courage to ask for the kind of help she's now soliciting for or even the number of people who choose not to help someone with a similar need based solely on the strength of her ill-advised post?

You see, it's OK to overlook people's misdemeanours but we need to ensure that these people fully understand the implications of their actions whenever they are caught or in this particular case, when they do the same things they castigated people for. If we don't, they won't learn and we will have a generation of insensitive and entitled individuals roaming our streets.

Her post from 2022 broke-shamed people for doing the same thing she just did, so if people build on it to drag her, then, she had it coming.

I graduated with a good grade (strong 2:1), but I couldn't get any graduate trainee job due to age problem as I finished service at 27. I'm no longer comfortable being a private school teacher as I think I'm wasting away my youth. Presently I'm considering going back to school.

The issue I'm having now is that with my age and lack of working experience, I don't know wether to go for Msc or MBA.

Hello Kay,

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Geography about 12 years ago and below are some tips that might help you.

1. Be Open-minded: Don't limit yourself to what you studied in school. If you graduated with stellar grades, you may consider applying to the Big4 or any of the other companies that provide Graduate Trainee programs. Should you get into one of such programs, you will be able to earn while you learn the rudiments of corporate work.

2. If you don't get into a graduate trainee program, consider learning a tech/digital skill. The fact that you studied Geography doesn't mean you must make a career out of it. The idea of a bachelors degree is for you to be able to apply it into practical economic activities. Like I mentioned earlier, I studied Geography up to MSc. level but I currently work in the Software-as-a-Service space. There are hundreds of people in the banks, Big4 and other consulting firms that didn't study anything related to Accounting or Finance.

3. If you can't learn a tech/digital skill but you have financial support, you may want to consider a Masters program abroad. Check out universities in Germany and Sweden for cheaper options or the US and UK if you'll like to use that opportunity to relocate.

Finally, I didn't graduate with a stellar grade and I couldn't get into a graduate trainee program. I supported myself by providing GIS services and consulting for students on their Masters dissertation or PhD thesis between 2012-15. Mid 2015 I got a job as a GIS analyst and then pivoted to software sales in 2016. I know it's tough but it's doable.
