Match Preview Sunderland continue their latest attempt at staging a great escape this weekend when Chelsea travel to the Stadium of Light. Sam Allardyce's side slipped into the Barclays Premier League bottom three last weekend after Newcastle United's win against Crystal Palace, despite Sunderland snatching a late draw at Stoke City. One point separates the local rivals, although Sunderland have a match in hand on Rafael Benitez's side. And they may well need it given their disappointing record against Chelsea, the visitors having won nine of their last 11 visits to Wearside, a run that stretches back nearly 16 years. History certainly stands against them this weekend but Sunderland, who avoided BPL relegation in the final weeks of last season, can stay in touch with Newcastle by winning on Saturday. Chelsea ended Tottenham Hotspur's BPL title bid on Monday night and will be tough opposition, but Allardyce has admitted that his Sunderland team "cannot afford" to slip up this weekend. "We have to stay focused from start to finish." he said. "That shows you. What happened to Tottenham mentally, we cannot afford for that to happen to our team." The Black Cats will need to improve their scoring record at home if they are to claim all three points, though. Sunderland, who are free of injury, have failed to find the back of the net in their last three matches at the Stadium of Light. After last season's title success, 2015/16 has been one of frustration at Stamford Bridge and Saturday's trip will be the penultimate match for Guus Hiddink before he hands over to Antonio Conte. The Dutch coach has no new injury worries ahead of the fixture, with only Loic Remy (groin) and Kurt Zouma (knee) sidelined, although he is expecting a tough match. "Sunderland have a very experienced manager who will fine-tune the team in the right way, it's a difficult game," he said. Chelsea (from): Amelia, Begovic, Blackman, Courtois, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Ivanovic, Miazga, Rahman, Terry, Fabregas, Hazard, Loftus-Cheek, Matic, Mikel, Oscar, Traore, Willian, Costa, Falcao, Kenedy, Pato, Pedro. Match Appointments Referee: Mike Jones Assistants: R West, M Scholes Fourth Official: G Scott Match Facts - Sunderland last defeated Chelsea at home in the Barclays Premier League back in October 2000. - Chelsea have won 19 and lost just two of their last 22 BPL contests with Sunderland. - Cesc Fabregas has scored four BPL goals against Sunderland, his joint-best haul against any opponent (along with Everton). - Former Blues forward Fabio Borini has scored in two of his three league appearances against Chelsea for current club Sunderland. DjValency:Sure the actions of the giant was cool but still cannot match when Jon snow lead the wildlings in through the gate. The Look on the night watch faces was so exihilaraing |
diggz:Exactly bro imagine a personality saying Madrid could have scored more goals If city were ready to be in the finals but couldn’t score more than one own goal tho city didn't turn up. You go fear logic. |
Debroslink:By winning europa villareal qualify automatically to the group stage tho so i believe they should have taken that match seriously. Anyway Liverpool should just vindicate EPL by winning the Europa. |
Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale, speaking to
BT Sport: "It doesn’t matter who scores or whether it's an own goal or not. The main thing is we have a chance to win the Champions League again. "I felt we were close to killing the game off but couldn’t get clear cut chances. http://m.bbc.com/sport/live/football/35947314?live_variant=nonjs The above is what Bale and others have to say about the match. |
Krasid:Let face facts here homie . Madrid havent been wonderful of late the last two games or more were gritted out wins with late goals from Bale saving the day. Let say city had really given up before the start of game then madrid would have surely killed them off. Madrid arent the type of team that would let easy outlet for goals to pass by. Ronaldo wouldn't let them do that. So it all boils than to either City didn't turn up for the game and Madrid themselves couldn't take advantage because themselves weren't in a good form or City gave the best they could do against an opposition that was just better than them even though that opposition itself wasn't itself |
raumdeuter:Wolfsburg tried no doubt about that but still fact is Madrid was dominating and even had a goal ruled out for offside until Wolfsburg suddenly hit them with a goal from counter. Understandably this disrupted madrid who were still riding the euphoria of their win against Barca leading to frustration that lead to Danilo tackle that caused the penalty that led to the second goal. Madrid tried to gather themselves but Wolfsburg were quite content to sit back and counter them. If Man utd could score two goals against them Madrid could do worse which they finally did trumping them 3-0 |
Why this thread dey like this. Yesternite was supposed to be a great night. |

usbcable:The armada which can only be sunk by the Queen's English navy. Which is right now faulty let hope the last ship can perform a miracle. |
chic2pimp:Oh common. Overall his first spell in Italy was above average to me and for someone that had to start from serie B that success for me. Besides i just wanted the ollah guy to know ranieri wasn't a flop as he would have us believe. |
raumdeuter:Here is what Ranieri has to say about that. I find it quite interesting He was sacked on 15November 2014, the day after a UEFA European 2016 qualifying defeat at home against theFaroe Islands. He received an €800,000 severance deal. He reflected in a 2015 interview with the Leicester Mercury: “ I made a mistake when I was manager of Greece. I wanted to look because it is a different job at a club to a national team. I had four matches and for each game I trained the players for just three days. That is 12 days of training. What can I do in just 12 days? I had to rebuild a national team in just 12 days. What could I do? I am not a magician. |
Ranieri seems to be quite good at spotting talents and nurturing them. Something Mourinho has been criticised for and Pep praised for. |
