The police in Niger State have arrested four men for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl in the Paikoro Local Government Area of the state. The suspects, Usman Ibrahim, 60; Zakari Aliyu, 25; Mustapha Isah, 17; and Imurana Aliyu, I6, were arrested by a team of policemen attached to the Paiko Division following a tip-off. It was gathered that one of the suspects, Aliyu, was caught in the act by the victim’s mother and he was apprehended by the police. Northern City News gathered in Minna on Sunday that one of the suspects, Ibrahim, who is married with three children and five grandchildren, told the police during interrogation that he gave the victim N20 the last time he defiled her. In an interview with our correspondent, the suspect also confessed to have had carnal knowledge of the victim’s elder sister, who was his regular girlfriend. The other suspects, who also confessed to defiling the minor on different occasions, said they paid her N20 to N50 each time they had their way. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the suspects had confessed to the crime. “They were arrested after one Yakubu Ibrahim reported that he noticed some abnormalities in the movement of his daughter,” Abubakar said. He added that one of the suspects, Aliyu, took the victim to an uncompleted building and was caught performing a sexual act with her by her mother. Our correspondent gathered that when questioned, the victim exposed other suspects, who had sex with her at different times. The police spokesman said the matter would be charged soon.

Top 20 Countries with the Best Educational System 2019 in the World. Countries with the Best Educational System 2019… Education is indispensable to individual and society, for without it there would be loss of all the accumulated knowledge of the ages and all the standard of conduct. This guide consist of the top most rated educational systems in the world today… Read more details below. Top 20 Countries with the Best Educational System The 2019 Best Countries for Education are ranked based on a perception-based global survey, which used a compilation of scores from equally weighted countries attributes: well-developed public education system, would consider attending university there and provides top quality education. Below are list of top 20 countries with the best educational systems in the world. World’s Best Education System and their Power Ranking Score. 1. FINLAND. Finland has held the unofficial title as the country with the world’s best education system, since 2000. After, adding five new key indicators to our educational ranking system, Finland is projected to take the official title in 2017. By outperforming, Japan and the three time winner of our ranking system, South Korea. Finland ranked higher in 3 of the new indicators – Secondary children in school, and teachers to student ratio for both Primary and Secondary schools. Power Ranking Score of 114 2. JAPAN . Second place finishers for the last three years in the World Top 20 Education Poll. Japan is projected to finish second for the fourth year in a row. Japan education system continues to be rated has one of the best. With its excellent development of students between the ages of 5 to 14. Power Ranking Score of 104 3. SOUTH KOREA . South Korea, the three-time winner of the World Top 20 Education Poll ranking system, is projected to finish third in 2017. South Korea only performed well in the completion rate of students 5 to 14, in the five new indicators. However, it should be noted, South Korea, for the last three years were projected, to finish second or third, but after the annual fall test scores and graduation rates of high school and college students, they finish first in the annual poll. Power Ranking Score of 101 4. DENMARK. Denmark perhaps the most under-appreciated country in the world, is again among the elite in educational development. Finishing last year number 8 in the World Top 20 Education Poll, Denmark rated in all five of the new indicators. Finishing 5th in Secondary age students in school, and 7th and 9th for teachers to student ratios for Primary and Secondary schools. Power Ranking Score of 94 5. RUSSIA. After, finishing its highest ever in the World Top 20 Education Poll – number 3. Russia remains one of Europe’s top countries in preparing its students for the workforce. Their student to teacher ratio for students 14 to 18 (one teacher for every ninth student), is the 3rd highest ranked in the world. Making Russia a clear favor to finish in the top 5, for the third year in a row. Power Ranking Score of 91 6. NORWAY . Norway finished 2016 ranked number 16, but has moved up 10 spots in the first quarter rankings for 2017. Norway’s teacher to student ratio for Primary age students is second in the world (one teacher for every students), and ranks fifth in the world for Secondary students (one teacher for every ten students). Like most countries, their international test score results will determine how high they finish in the final poll in December. Power Ranking Score of 82 7. UNITED KINGDOM . Dropping one spot from last year’s final rankings, the UK teacher’s issues is starting to affect their international rankings. For over the last four-years, the country’s teachers have been fighting for better wages, more classroom support, and the need to recruit more teachers. If this problem continues, the UK may fall out of the top 10 for the first time. Power Ranking Score of 78 8. ISRAEL . Israel remains formidable in the international circles, has its country’s educational system for early-childhood development has risen to number two in the world. And their improvement in Primary education completion rates and in school enrollment rates are among the highest in the world. It’s not impossible for Israel to finish in the Top 5 at the end of the year. Power Ranking Score of 77 9. SWEDEN. Sweden progress over the last three years has been impressive. Keeping pace with its other Nordic mates (Finland, Denmark and Norway), Sweden’s enrollment of Secondary age students (15 to 18) is third in the world. While their completion rates for Primary age students (five to 13) ranks sixth. If they hope to improve on their last year finale ranking of 18, their Secondary student’s high school graduation rates (69%) have to reach higher levels. Power Ranking Score of 75 10. HONG KONG . Hong Kong has the world’s highest enrollment rate for Primary age students. Finishing 14th in last year’s Top 20 rankings, if the country ever wants to finish in the Top 10, it has to improve its early-childhood education enrollment. However, with its current success in Primary age student’s test scores and enrollment completion rates that seems highly unlikely. Power Ranking Score of 70 11. NETHERLANDS. The number ten ranked country in last year’s World Top 20 Poll, Netherlands drops one spot to number 11 in this year’s pre-poll selection. A mainstay in the annual rankings, the Netherlands Primary and especially Secondary in school student rankings keeps them relevant as we start the year. If their international test scores in Math, Science and Reading can improve for both these age groups, the Netherlands should end the year above their last year’s rankings. Power Ranking Score of 67 12. BELGIUM. Belgium may have the world’s most complex education system. Their system consists of three different communities – Flemish, German, and French-speaking. Yet, they rank 9th and 4th in teacher to student ratio for Primary and Secondary grades, and 5th and the first for in school student enrollment for Primary and Secondary age students. Pair that with them having the world’s third highest early-childhood enrollment rates (98%), there is no way, they should not be ranked in the top 20 at the end of the year. Power Ranking Score of 65 13. GERMANY. Germany a world power in economic and social justice. Faces another year of trying to break back into the World’s Top 10, in education development. After finishing out of the Top 10, for the last two years, Germany has another major challenge in making it to a Top 10 finish in 2017. Power Ranking Score of 63 14. CHINA. China, unlike Germany, finished 2016 in the Top 10 (number 9). However, they have a tough challenge in repeating that accomplishment in 2017. Their major obstacle will be to improve, their early childhood enrollment rates. Every year, this has preventing them from making a top five finish. Let us hope they invest more in every child. Power Ranking Score of 62 15. SINGAPORE . Singapore is the world’s best test taking country. Year in, Year out, their Primary and Secondary international test scores in Math, Science and Reading are among the highest, and was the best in 2016. Yet, the number of Primary and Secondary children in school is not impressive. They failed to rank in the top 20 in both areas. This is where their country’s lack of investment in education for every child makes them vulnerable in their economic and social growth. It will also be interesting to see, if this year, they will make a Top 5 finish, with the Poll’s five new educational indicators. Power Ranking Score of 57 16. PORTUGAL . Portugal is always between. Good, Average or Below Average. In last year’s preselection poll, they we’re projected to finish in the top 20, however, they did not qualify. This year, they are projected to finish 16th . Which would be, their highest ranking ever. With the world’s second highest number of Primary, age children in school, and the sixth best teacher to student ratio for Secondary school. Portugal has their best chance, since 2015 to make the final 20 rankings. Power Ranking Score of 54 17. HUNGARY. Hungary’s education system was ranked 20th in the world’s last year. With the 5th highest teacher to student ratio for Secondary age school, they’re chances to finish higher this year is almost guaranteed. The only drawback is they have a very low higher education graduation rate (32%). Power Ranking Score of 52 18. ESTONIA. Estonia is the 8th country from Northern Europe to make the rankings. Just missing out of last year’s top 20. Their country has the world’s highest Primary age completion rate for students. With an opportunity to improve this year, will depend on how well their international test score is for those Primary age students has they enter Secondary education. Power Ranking Score of 50 19. FRANCE . France had the highest early childhood enrollment rate in last year’s poll, which increases their chances to finish in the top 20 again. More interesting is the fact, France has the world’s 4 th highest number of Primary age students in school. If the new Government Leadership continues to invest in their education system, France can be a Top 10 country in education by 2020. Power Ranking Score of 50 20. UNITED STATES . Can you see a shake-up is coming? No doubt, the United States Government is in a transition stage. The US finished a surprising 7th in last year’s rankings. The best since the 70s. However, early indicators seem to suggest the US, will be reorganizing itself, towards more public school funding towards charter schools and breaking up teachers unions. Next year this time, we will know those results. Power Ranking Score of 47 Education gives us a knowledge of the world around us and changes it into something better. It develops in us a perspective of looking at life. It helps us build opinions and have points of view on things in life. Ensure to choose wisely. What’s your take on this |
How Edo govt organised attack, by Oshiomhole by Akintunde1 — 4 hours ago Bolaji Ogundele, Abuja ALL Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole on Sunday gave his account of weekend’s fracas during the first convocation of Edo State University, Iyamho. He accused Governor Godwin Obaseki – with whom he has been having a running battle – and Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu of master-minding the attack on him and his guests. He reiterated that the attack was organised to embarrass him at his country home – where the university is located. He said having served as governor for two terms, he cannot be described as Obaseki’s rival. Oshiomhole and his guests – the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu; Chairman of Honeywell Group, Mr Oba Otudeko; and the Vice Chancellor of Edo University, Iyamho, Professor Emmanuel Aluyor – were attacked at his residence, shortly after the convocation. The national chairman said he had intelligence, which he shared with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), that the deputy governor had mobilised 1,000 persons to the university to cause mayhem, boo and jeer at him. He said the show of shame was embarrassing to the guests, particularly Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele, who delivered the convocation lecture. Speaking at a news conference in Abuja yesterday, Oshiomhole said: “I decided that I should use this medium to speak of the unfortunate incident that happened in my community yesterday (Saturday) after the convocation ceremony at the Edo University. It was my decision to invite the Chancellor and his entourage including His Royal Majesty, Oba Akiolu, Oba Otudeko and other dignitaries. “I personally invited them to join me for lunch which they graciously accepted, and so, it is unthinkable that I will invite people for lunch, and I will make arrangements to disrupt or prevent my guests from coming to my house. So, any suggestion that I had an idea of what happened, nothing can be farther from the truth. “When I discovered that something had gone wrong, I went to the gate and by then they had gone. I tried to speak with the governor. I called him, the phone rang out but at least I was able to speak with the Chancellor and his wife and I am happy that they fully understood. However, this whole thing was unfortunate because it was organised by the state government. Read Also: Adams Oshiomole: Victim of reactionary forces “By Thursday evening, and you can crosscheck with the IGP. I had information that the Deputy Governor asked some people to organise 1, 000 people to the university community. The whole idea was for them to boo me and celebrate it in the media that the comrade-chairman was booed in his own community. The CBN Governor who delivered the convocation lecture was also a witness.” He added: “The CBN governor was not invited to address a rally. He was invited to deliver a convocation lecture and he wasn’t going to talk to those thugs who were wearing all kinds of inscriptions. They didn’t come for a political rally. I conveyed the message to the IGP to prevent thugs being imported to the place by the deputy governor. Some few minutes later the governor arrived and Mr. Emefiele went to him and said to him, ‘what are these people doing here?’ “He said Mr. Governor, if those people were there, he wasn’t going to deliver the convocation lecture because he didn’t come to do politics, he just came to perform a normal intellectual activity which was the convocation lecture. The governor promised to get the people out of the university. You can imagine, it is easier to mobilise thugs into a place, but it is far more difficult to demobilise them. So, we had to meander into the auditorium where the lecture was to be delivered and, of course, you could hear all sorts of slogans and counter-slogans. “This was exactly what they had planned and the whole idea was they would have their cameras waiting. As I step out, people will be booing me and the media will report that Oshiomhole booed when he attended the convocation ceremony. That was the whole idea.” The deputy governor on Saturday denied having a hand in the attack on guests at the chairman’s residence. His spokesman, Mr. Musa Ebomhiana, said: “The large crowd that gathered at the gate brutally attacked the governor’s convoy, destroying three cars in the process. The convoy had to quickly turn and came back to the varsity campus. So, how did the DG cause it, could he have arranged his own attack? “In fact, they were there on the invitation of the Comrade himself.”

Before the Facebook post that led to his expulsion, Mr Adewale was known on campus for a series of posts condemning alleged maladministration of the university including poor welfare on campus. Nigeria tertiary institutions are known for several irregularities such as delay in the release of results, overcrowded and ill-equipped classrooms, dilapidated hostels, among others. Rather than attend to issues raised by students, authorities over the years scapegoat students calling their attention to these irregularities. Examples include Olorunfemi Adeyeye, who was rusticated by the University of Lagos in 2016 and Kunle Adebajo who was rusticated from University of Ibadan in 2018 over critical articles. Just like other victims of expulsion in the past, the university management in an expulsion letter to Mr Adewale said the article written by the student was “misrepresentation of fact about the university.” The letter read that “at the Student Disciplinary Committee meeting held on August 29, 2019, you were invited for the purpose of giving you fair hearing on the allegation of an act perpetrated through the Internet, that is inimical to the integrity and corporate image of the university.” “Senate at its 217th Statutory Meeting held on Thursday, October 17, 2019, considered the report of the Student Disciplinary Committee on the allegation and thus decided that you have been found culpable of insubordination to university officials, defamation of character and act perpetrated through the Internet that is inimical to the integrity and corporate image of the university based on the extant rules and regulations on penalties for various offenses by students of the university.” “Consequent upon the decision of the Senate, you’re hereby expelled from the university as provided for the offences committed by you. You should surrender all university properties in your possession including the university identity card to the Dean, Student Affairs”, the letter read. Several calls and text message to the university’s spokesperson, Emi Alawode, since Friday to seek further clarification on the expulsion, are yet to be responded to. Advertisement FIRS AD When contacted, the student, Mr Adewale, told PREMIUM TIMES that he appeared before the university’s panel to explain himself. He said the university authorities found his defense worthless and were particular about him painting the institution in “bad light.” Reactions: In his reaction, Mr Adeyeye said Mr Adewale’s case is one occurrence too many and it is “becoming an embarrassment how intolerant to dissents our academics and public officials are becoming.” “Students of the FUNAAB have taken to the media space many times, protesting the level of insecurity (armed robberies, rape) on campus and its environs. Instead of addressing the issue and seeking a lasting solution, the authorities resolved to expel a student activist who called the attention of the World to the plights of thousands. Very ridiculous.” “From UNILAG to OAU, UNIUYO, UI, FUTO, FUNAAB etc, the story has been the same. All these are direct indicators that we are back in the trenches of jackboot absolutism. This is a call to all Nigerian students to rise at this time like never before and defend what is left of freedom of speech and association. To also demand proper funding of public education. If we do not rise now, it may be very difficult to hold WhatsApp meetings in the near future,” he UNILAG victim said. In his reaction, an activist, Segun Awosanya, noted that he would take up the matter against the university. “By the Almighty Grace of God we shall be taking up this case. The level of impunity in our citadel of knowledge is astronomical. An example will be made of this abuse of power by people who should know better. •Mariam Nabatanzi and family In a rare case, a woman in Uganda has been banned from conceiving any more, after giving birth to 44 children. Mariam Nabatanzi has been dubbed ‘the world’s most fertile woman’ by locals after she managed to give birth to four sets of twins, five sets of triplets and five quadruplets. But, doctors in Uganda have banned Nabatanzi from giving birth to any more children, according to Al Jazeera documentary quoted in 7news.com.au . The single mother, who earlier this year was the subject of an Al Jazeera mini-documentary, works a handful of jobs to take care of her 38 living children. Nabatanzi works as a tailor, hairdresser and herbalist to support her family, and has said that, above all, she wants her children to receive an education. Dr. Chales Kiggundu, a gynaecologist interviewed in the documentary, said Nabatanzi’s incredible number of pregnancies were the result of hyperovulation, which is when the body releases more than one egg during the menstrual cycle. The phenomenon increases a woman’s chances of having twins, triplets or quadruplets. “You find that some of the women have the potential of having between 10 to 12 eggs that come at the beginning of the month,” Kiggundu said. “Some of them have the potential to have more than one fertilisation take place.” Nabatanzi has made attempts to stop having children in the past, including using an IUD after her 18th baby was born, a 2018 BET article reported. However, the device made her so sick that she went into a coma. (Vanguard) Source News Express Posted 04/11/2019 05:29:27 AM Recommended video..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V76OWe6N_5I

The US government has launched a national security review of TikTok owner Beijing ByteDance Technology Co's $1 billion acquisition of US social media app Musical.ly, according to three people familiar with the matter. While the $1 billion acquisition was completed two years ago, US lawmakers have been calling in recent weeks for a national security probe into TikTok, concerned the Chinese company may be censoring politically sensitive content and raising questions about how it stores personal data. TikTok has been growing more popular among US teenagers at a time of growing tensions between Washington and Beijing over trade and technology transfers. About 60% of TikTok's 26.5 million monthly active users in the United States are between the ages of 16 and 24, the company said this year.
