Bayern Munich manager Hans-Dieter Flick has congratulated Liverpool on the £25million signing of Thiago Alcantara.


Having been linked with the Spaniard all summer, Liverpool finally made a breakthrough in their negotiations with Bayern on Thursday after they agreed to pay a minimum of £20m over the next four years, along with £5m in add-ons.

The 29-year-old was made available by Bayern after he entered the final year of his contract, which saw the European champions cash in on arguably their best midfielder.


And now with his move agreed between the two clubs, Flick took the opportunity to heap praise on Thiago, while applauding Liverpool for their most recent acquisition.

'Thiago is an extraordinary player and was very important for us,' Flick said. 'My coaching team and I enjoyed working with him.

'It was very emotional as we said goodbye. I can only congratulate Liverpool as they got a great player and especially a great person.

'Thiago gave the team a lot of options and made us unpredictable, he solved things in ways you don't expect.

'Now we're losing yet another great player. We are in contact with Hasan [Salihamidzic, sporting director] and we are confident that we can still do something.

'We're positive and we have the first game tomorrow. That's the focus now and we have a good squad with which we can win the game.'

Thiago will join Liverpool on a four-year deal and will wear the No 6 shirt, as he has done all through his career.

Ansu Fati became Spain’s youngest-ever goalscorer after scoring in his side’s 4-0 win against Ukraine

Spain forward Ansu Fati became the national team's youngest ever goalscorer as the 17-year-old inspired Luis Enrique's side to a resounding 4-0 win at home to Ukraine in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday.

Spain captain Sergio Ramos scored the opening goal with a penalty in the third minute after Fati had earned the spot-kick and the defender also doubled his side's advantage by heading home in the 29th minute.

Fati had been threatening to score from the off and finally got a goal worthy of his inspirational performance by firing in off the post from outside the area in the 33rd minute, having gone close with an overhead kick and another effort earlier on.

Substitute Ferran Torres, 20, struck on the volley in the 84th minute also to get his first goal for his country and round off a victory which took Spain top of League A Group 4 with four points from two games.

Man United have handed Donny van de Beek his new squad number after confirming him as the first signing of the summer, and there's a poignant reason for the choice



Van de Beek specifically requested the jersey to pay tribute to his former Ajax teammate and close friend Abdelhak Nouri, who collapsed during a pre-season game against Werder Bremen in 2017 and suffered a cardiac arrhythmia attack.

“This is a special thing for me because my good friend Abdelhak Nouri… maybe you know the story," the Dutchman told United's official site.

"He had a heart attack and he’s a good friend of mine, and I’m really close with his family and his brother is one of my best friends, and I talk a lot with them. So I decided to take his old number on my shirt. I want to get good memories with this number.”


Dean Henderson was the club's No.34 but has allowed his new teammate to take the shirt.

FC Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati has trained with the Spanish national team ahead of a potential debut.

The 17-year-old broke through into the Barca first team and scored his first senior goal one year ago enjoying a meteoric rise with his form rewarded with a first call-up to the national squad by head coach Luis Enrique.

The player arrived in Spain aged six from Guinea Bissau and has only been a Spanish citizen for less than a year and was expected to have been named in the national team much earlier were it not for the postponement of fixtures - including Euro 2020 - due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The player could earn his first cap for Spain in the Uefa Nations League group stage opener against Germany on Thursday, or against Ukraine on Sunday.

The Spanish team has been training in Madrid this week and a snap of the youngster together with his teammates has been posted by the Spanish FA.
