Wife of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha Buhari has warned him that she may not back him at the next election unless he shakes up his government, even as sources informed about the development told SIGNAL on Friday Aisha may now be divorced and “separated” from her husband, the President.
According to the source who did not want to be named, not only does Aisha’s vocal outbursts go against the expectations of her tradition and religion, her choice of a foreign media platform to air her “grievances” lend credence to claims that she is now actually separated from the President and has chosen the United Kingdom as a possible place of exile barring any attempts to reconcile her differences with President Buhari.
“It’s a delicate situation. There have been issues on ground for some time now which were being managed carefully but the BBC interview seems to be the last straw that has broken the camel’s back. All of this is closely related to the Mamman Daura power tussle which Aisha Buhari is very unhappy about. She believes she has lost her husband to forces and circumstances beyond her control. This is a woman crying for help”, the source said.
In an interview with the BBC, Aisha Buhari said the president “does not know” most of the top officials he has appointed.
She suggested the government had been hijacked, saying a “few people” were behind presidential appointments.
Buhari was elected last year with a promise to tackle corruption and nepotism in government.
His wife’s decision to go public with her concerns will shock many people, but it reflects the level of discontent with the president’s leadership, says the BBC’s Naziru Mikailu in the capital, Abuja.
The president famously remarked at his inauguration that he “belongs to nobody and belongs to everybody”.
In the interview with Naziru Mikailu, Mrs Buhari said: “The president does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years.”
She said people who did not share the vision of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were now appointed to top posts because of the influence a “few people” wield.
“Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position.”
Asked to name those who had hijacked the government, she refused, saying: “You will know them if you watch television.”
On whether the president was in charge, she said: “That is left for the people to decide.”
Mrs Buhari said her husband had not told her whether he would contest the 2019 election.
“He is yet to tell me but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again.”
When asked what she regarded as the government’s major achievement, she said it was to improve security in the north-east where Boko Haram has wreaked havoc since 2009.
“No-one is complaining about being attacked in their own homes. Thankfully everyone can walk around freely, go to places of worship, etc. Even kids in Maiduguri have returned to schools,” Mrs Buhari said, referring to the city which was once the headquarters of the militant group.
Recall that SIGNAL had exclusively reported on Wednesday how President Buhari’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease had rendered him nearly incapable of running the affairs of the Nigerian government, paving way for the Mamman Daura cabal to take over the Buhari administration, a development that is now forcing Aisha Buhari to come out openly to declare war.
Attempts by SIGNAL to reach Aisha Buhari for comments over the divorce rumours proved abortive at the time of this report.
An Army officer claimed seeing ballot papers meant for Wednesday’s Edo State governorship election in a police van in Etsako Central Local Government Area. The soldier claimed the materials were removed from one of the polling units. “I saw police officers in a van stuffed with ballot papers. We asked the driver to stop but they refused to stop. We are still searching for them.” Meanwhile, there was commotion in Unit 7, Ward 3 in Igiode village, Etsako East Local Government Area after a senator allegedly gave money to some voters at the polling unit. When newsmen visited the polling unit, the voters were engaged in heated arguments over how to share the money.
Considering past precedent of Prof Yakubu, delaying the result amounts to two things. Either they announce an inconclusive election or they give it to their preferred APC candidate. This is the first state election since 1999 without live TV feeds.
Sorry Nigerians, INEC are back to the days of Maurice Iwu. Ize-Iyamu has won but Obaseki would be declared winner.
Oshiomhole ordered INEC to send out all the journalists covering the election and INEC obeyed.
In a little while, somebody will say this pictures are photoshopped.
But as Michelle Obama said in a rally, referring to Trump. When they (the bad belle)Go low,we the Tinubu's go high.
When we called Kashamu a wanted drug lord, the PDP praise singers kept pointing to Tinubu. But Tinubu is in the Capital of the United States now, while Kashamu cannot even leave Nigeria for Niger Republic.
Who is the confirmed druggie?
[/s] Bros Tinubu was convicted, Kashamu hasn't been convicted yet.
The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has denied tweeting “recession is just a word”. Her Special Assistant (Media) Mr. Festus Akanbi, in a statement in Abuja Thursday, said that the minister did not own a twitter account, therefore the said tweet was not from her.
He said, “The attention of the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has been drawn to a fake Twitter handle in her name saying that ‘recession is just a word.’ “For the avoidance of doubt, the Honourable Minister does not own a Twitter account. The Twitter handle currently trending, and any other twitter handle presently in existence is not, and cannot be that of the Honourable Minister, as a twitter account has not yet been set up for her. It is obviously fake and does not represent the views and opinions of the Honourable Minister. “Also at no time did the Honourable Minister, who addressed the media immediately after Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council, make such a statement. “The Minister has consistently demonstrated empathy for the plight of Nigerians hard hit by dwindling oil prices and the impact on the economy”.
Former Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Chidi Odinkalu, yesterday, expressed pessimism that elections may not hold in 2019, considering the level of preparation for the poll.
Odinkalu, who was speaking in Abuja at a town hall meeting and presentation of the findings of a post- 2015 elections research conducted by ActionAid Nigeria, said going ahead without proper preparation may result in crisis and deaths.
Almost every newspaper in Nigeria have at a time in the past 1yr accused Buhari of nepotism with the exception of Saharareporters. Seems the promotion of Muazu was too glaring.
At a time when Niger Delta Avengers are declaring end to attacks in the region, an Urhobo militant group, Niger Delta Greenland Justice Movement, NDGJM, has blown up a pipeline operated by Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, and Shorelines Petroleum Nigeria in Delta State. The pipeline, which is a major delivery line for NPDC, was blown up at 3.am on Tuesday despite the ongoing military drill in the Niger Delta region code-named, “Operation Crocodile Smile.”
A statement by the group’s leader, “Gen” Aldo Agbalaja, said the attack was carried out by its Uproot Team B, adding that it was also launching “Operation Crocodile Tears” in response to the military’s “Operation Crocodile Smile.”
