This is a video of a Nigerian man giving out money to an old White woman in Europe. What a show of kindness? In the video, you can see the Nigerian man (whose accent reflects Igbo) say “No problem ma. Since Europe continues to support Nigeria, we need to support this woman with 5 Euro.” Then the old white woman thanked him, and the Nigerian man further said, “Random act of kindness men, make we still give back to Europe, because them they give our people so many resources.” Nigerians are one of the best people in Planet earth, never mind what the western media says. Nice huh? What do you think Nairalanders? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGFDF3C8ivw CC Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove

May 30 serves as the remembrance day of Biafra heroes who died during the Nigerian civil war in 1967. The Igbos, led by Odumegwu Ojukwu, declared Biafra state and announced that it has seceded from Nigeria. It turn into a full blown war as the Nigerian troops (with Yakubu Gowon as Nigeria’s President) clamped down on Igbo lands for 30 months, with many loss of lives and properties recorded. After three years of non-stop fighting, in fear of being assassinated, General Odumegwu-Ojukwu in 1970 handed over power to his second in command, Major-General Philip Effiong and traveled to Ivory Coast where he was in exile for 13 years. In 1982, the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Shehu Aliyu Usman Shagari granted an official pardon to Odumegwu-Ojukwu and opened the road for a triumphant return for him. At the end of the war, “No Victor, No Vanquished” was declared, and the Igbo people were reintegrated into Nigeria. Ojukwu contested as a presidential candidate three times under his party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) but lost. Until his illness, he remained the party leader. He died in a London Hospital in 2011, at the age of 78. Ever since Nnamdi Kanu’s led IPOB gained momentum and gathered support, renewed agitations for a sovereign state, Biafra, has become louder. Protests have been held on many occasion, especially when Nnamdi Kanu was put in jail by the Nigerian government. After Kanu was bailed, he was giving stringent conditions by the court, but he has since been showing signs that he would flout the conditions. IPOB declared a sit-at-home strike all over the Igbo lands (Biafra), and here are the pictures and videos of a deserted street in the South East. This move is a plain non-violent strategy employed by IPOB. They call for referendum, but the Nigerian constitution did not provide an opportunity for that. Streets and market places in the South East states are currently deserted owing to the "Sit at Home" order issued by IPOB leaders in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Biafra war. The residents of the different states are scared of coming out to engage in their lawful activities for fear of being attacked by the IPOB members. The different south east governors and the police have issued statements assuring the residents of the different states to go about their lawful businesses as there would be maximum security provided for them. As today marks the 50th Anniversary of the end of the Biafra War in Nigeria, this is a throwback photo of the leader of the breakaway Republic of Biafra, Colonel Odumegwu Emeka Ojukwu popularly known as 'Ikemba' reading a speech as he declared the independence of Biafra on May 30th, 1967. Do you want to be a virtuous woman? The characteristics of a virtuous woman have been explored in religious texts (both the Qur'an and Bible) and philosophers have also worked on it throughout the ages. There are few common principles that most great free thinkers agree on, even though others vary on the exact details. If you'd like to be a virtuous woman, below are five principles you should review to get started. 1. Beauty You must have heard this saying, "true beauty lies within." True beauty is virtuous because it develops out of good character. If you want to look virtuous, you need to look inwards so that you absolutely become virtuous. If you live the life of a virtuous woman, you will also be a beautiful woman because inner beauty and virtue go hand-in-hand. Your outward beauty should reflect your inward beauty. You can look beautiful on the outside even when maintaining inner beauty. Beautiful things shine, and their radiance can be felt externally. For a complete beauty, inward beauty must harmonize with outward beauty. That is if you are beauty on the inside, you should take care of your body and treat it with plenty respect so that others can see your beauty, as well. You do not have to be supermodel-cute, but be confident to look your best. Do you get a self-satisfaction when you look in the mirror and like what you see? Liking yourself enough to buck for this sensation is a healthy and virtuous amount of outward beauty. Dress modestly so as not to tempt others with your outward beauty. You don't have to look unstylish, but understand that a revealing outfit might temporarily attract men. However, men of good character are attracted to women of virtue. Another mark of virtue is being kind and respectful enough not to a source of temptation to the men around you. Though men are responsible for their own actions and thoughts, but as visual beings, they are influenced by what they see. Take good care of your body and stay healthy by eating solely healthy foods and staying in shape. Avoid exposing your body to harmful substances like drugs or abusive quantities of alcohol. Respect is a virtue, so show self-respect to your body. 2. Other Outward Virtue Be kind and act in service to others. This means thinking highly of the needs of others, taking care of those whenever you can, while also taking care of your own needs. An example of service is volunteering your time and energy in formal and informal situations to help others. For example, a virtuous woman can join an NGO pushing for Sickle Cell Disease orientation, and will also be there to a friend who needs a shoulder to lean on, even if it means missing out on something else. Being truly kind means you need to approach people with a giving spirit. You should be that person whom others can consult for positive words and actions. However, it is not enough to just exchange pleasantries and a few nice words in passing. Be hospitable and generous. Make sure to always complete tasks assigned to you and do away with procrastination. Take care of your responsibilities and be self-disciplined. Do the right things even when others can't see or aren't looking. Spend your money and earth resources wisely. You should not be irresponsible with money or spend wastefully. Be frugal, but don't be stingy or cheap. Take care of your financial obligations before throwing your money on indulgences. In other words, you should be shopping for new cloths lavishly when you owe rent or other bills. Be a good time manager. Spend your time wisely and don't be lazy. Take time to relax and recharge fully, since you can only be productive when sufficiently well rested. Do not be frivolous with your time. Do things at the right time, and channel your efforts in ways that will most profit you and those around you. 3. Inward Virtue Do you have faith? Faith traditionally mean to believe in God or some religious reasoning. If you don't believe in God, you can still apply the principle of faith by faithfully pursuing virtue. Commit yourself to your faith in God, or in the goodness of virtue, remain faithful in the face of challenges that occur. Respect your body by keeping it pure. Your body is a treasure and do not give it up to just anyone. The principle of purity states that one should wait until marriage before having sex. Nearly every major religion is in support of this principle. Even if you don't have any religion, you should still apply this principle. Sex should be a special activity that should only be cherished and entertained between two people in love. Determine what is beneficial and harmful by weighing outside influence carefully, be open to critique and advice, and act appropriately. Women are emotional by nature, and the downside of this is that it can often blind reason. So, you need to cultivate reason. A virtuous woman will accept her emotions but use reason to effect her reactions. Govern yourself by wisdom, not by folly. That is listening to your heart for guidance, but judging a situation with your mind, applying the wisdom you have acquired throughout your life in assessing things accurately. BB Naija 2017 former housemate, Ese Eriata, is currently under fire on social media after she failed to say the full meaning of B.Sc. on international TV. Ese was on HipTV’s show, ‘Trending as a guest’. As the interview was going on, she was asked to say the full meaning of B.Sc by the show’s host, Nancy Isime. The College of Education, Ekiadolor, Edo State graduate couldn’t answer the simple question. She started by asking what B.Sc means, and then she asked “Is it Bachelor in…” before she insisted she knew it but she still couldn’t say it. A Revealed Enemy & a Secret Enemy, the most dangerous kinds of enemies are those who you love & think are your friend, but behind you, they envy, hate and plot against you! Here are SIGNS to look out for in knowing who your Secret Enemy is: 1. Anyone who gets angry when good things happen to you is a Secret Enemy! 2. Anyone who tries to reduce the value of your Achievements & Success is an Envious Enemy in disguise! 3. Anyone who is intimidated by your Talent, Success, Anointing & Grace, yet holds a Special place in your heart, is a SUSPECT! 4. Anyone who speak well of you in your presence but runs you down behind, or speaks evil of you to others is a Secret Enemy consumed with Envy! 5. Anyone who belittle your potentials and personality is a Suspect! 6. Anyone who becomes Sad when people Celebrates you, yet claims to be your friend! That's an Enemy in disguise. 7. Any friend who plots secretly against you & betrays you, exposes your Secrets & Weaknesses is another Judas Iscariot! Secret enemies try to be good friends and make you believe that you can always lean on their shoulders, but you may never suspect their true intentions as regards the information you share with them. Be careful! Source: http://www.rapportnaija.com/2016/04/secret-enemies-signs-to-look-our-for.html |
1. Not every girl wants to get married by 23. So before you ASSUME she's of marriageable age, ask her what her views on marriage are. One hint might save you the drama- just because she does not want to get married now does not mean she never will. She has other plans for herself right now, let her live a little. 2. Just because a girl wishes to do her Ph.D after Masters does not mean she doesn't want to settle down in life. Give her a break, and respect the fact that she has the confidence to take that up, cos yeah, Ph.D is no joke. There will come a point when she would happily devote herself to her family, and balance it out with her work life. Her degrees, or lack of them, won't make any difference. Let her study while she wants to, okay? 3. Just because she is 27 and unmarried does not mean she's been rejected by many men. Maybe, being single is a choice she has made. 4. Having a boyfriend does not make her characterless. 5. Just because she has recently gone through a break up doesn't mean she is vulnerable and available. 6. Just because most of her friends are boys, does not mean she is "having a good time" with all of them. 7. Just because she has a drink in her hand does not mean she is an alcoholic. 8. Just because she wore a short skirt to one party does not mean she dresses up that way every day. 9. Just because she is ambitious doesn't mean she isn't a family person. 10. Just because she doesn't discuss her plans doesn't mean she's clueless about life. Give her a chance, alright? 11. Just because she is outspoken doesn't mean she is a rebel. 12. Just because she comes home late from work does not mean she is sleeping around with her colleagues. 13. After a hectic week, give her some time to relax over the weekend. Don't make that one weekend party make her look like a she's a frivolous party-girl without a job. 14. Just because she is out shopping alone does not mean she is depressed or lonely. It's how she relaxes, respect that. 15. Just because she is on a holiday alone does not mean she doesn't have company. Maybe it's a break to get back her lost confidence, or maybe that's how she is. Admire her spirit instead of giving her advice, okay? 16. Just because she is a woman doesn't mean she can't kick ass in military school. 17. Just because she has a tattoo doesn't mean she is attention seeking. Maybe that's her way of expression. 18. Just because she doesn't know how to cook doesn't mean she won't make a good wife. Remember when you were just married and cooked chicken curry which was um, a disaster? 19. Just because she likes everything pink and shiny and fluffy doesn't mean she lives in her own world. She can handle some situations much better than her male counterparts. 20. Just because she is pretty does not mean she is a LovePeddler. And just because she is friendly does not mean she is flirting with you. Yes, girls cry, they are emotional; they take things personally, and sometimes over-react to situations. But this does not give any one the right to judge ladies in the wrong way. Times are changing; don't confine her within those boundaries, no matter how orthodox you are. There are some who might be fighting this losing battle, yet compromising on their decisions and plans, just to please society. http://www.rapportnaija.com/2016/03/men-things-ladies-wish-you-knew.html |
This is not a fictional story. It happened in real life, but I got to the scene few minutes after the Nigerian soldiers had done their bad deeds. The most painful thing is that I do not have ‘picture or video’ evidence; else this report would have way much better. You don’t have to believe me anyways. So, what happened? Why does my title carry Nigerian soldiers and oppression? My heart bleeds for this lady. From the reports I gathered from anonymous witnesses, this lady was in a hotel around Agric, Owutu area of Ikorodu chilling with her friends. Someone met her inside the hotel and tricked her that her attention was needed outside for a hookup (to be frank, the young lady was a hooker). When she got outside, the Nigerian soldiers who were stationed in the area (Agric, Owutu, Ikorodu) descended on her heavily. What was her offence? I gathered she wore a white gown that had a camouflage-like design that laced the down part of the gown. She was not only beaten heavily, the soldiers got her naked by taking the gown off her openly, right in front of the hotel. There was nobody to beg for her. She was wearing no bar; so literally, this young lady grabbed her breasts and cried bitterly right in front of passersby. If we all agree that it was a crime to wear camouflage dresses in Nigeria, in the case of this lady, would it not have been better for her to be beaten and sent back home to change instead of getting her naked? Why are the Nigerian soldiers mean to ordinary people? Are they themselves not Nigerian? In recent news, there is the case of the Nigeria Air force invading UNIOSUN, and just today, news of students beaten black and blue by men of the Nigerian army during a SUG election in Bauchi is everywhere. Aren’t these Nigerians getting paid with Nigeria’s taxpayers’ money? To think these elements are never owed salaries like the common civil servants, yet they come into town, bully other road users and maltreat other civilians as if we imported them to fight for and protect Nigeria. This is unfair. This is inhumane. Soldiers should protect the country’s citizens, not become their nemesis. We shouldn’t be enemies; we should not avoid the people who are to protect us. Why is it that we do things in Africa as if we are still in the Stone Age? A young lady wore a dress with a little camouflage-like design; she got beaten and openly disgraced. A lady oh! And yet, we go around preaching against violence against women and children. I am sad to be a Nigerian when things like this occur, especially when I know the victims personally. Uneducated soldiers that get paid with nice incentives will just be beating professors around town, all for what? When will civilians be safe from soldiers’ violent menace in Nigeria? We are under a democratic government, and yet soldiers act as if they were forced or abducted from their homes to defend the country. We apply for civil jobs just like they apply to get into the Army. How come they get trained and become small gods? I am sad, and I can’t stop thinking about the pain this lady must still be in. Who can fight for her? The least I can do is pen down my own pain right here. My heart bleeds for you. Dear Nigerian soldiers, stop the bully, brutality, and oppression. We are all Nigerians! CC Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Please I want all Nairalanders to see this, I want to see different reactions to this story. Thanks and God bless you guys! We all can continue to say gleefully Nigeria is a failed nation without thinking forward that we are saying we are a failed people. Yes, I mean you are a failed person. The solutions to Nigeria's problems is not the government. The government is the problem. But then, the government is the reflection of its population. Remember we vote these people into office, although at the time of voting, we may not be sure who will become a good manager or a monster. Do not trust people in power. We the people determine what manner of nation we want to build. Many of us who do not vote, or refuse to vote, have sacrificed our right to complain about the design of the craft; those that could not vote for no fault of theirs, must offer support to the good deeds and wise counsel how the design should be made or made better. Most of us talk about the problems of Nigeria as if only the government is affected. Have we ever asked ourselves what the role of our local government is? Why do we always blame the government in the central? A Central government that is so far away from the people. I am not saying we should not pontificate about good governance at the central government, but we should lower & fixate our eyes to the local government as well. Politics begins at the local level. We have 774 LGAs in Nigeria. The Nigerian constitution shares functions to the three tiers of government—federal, state, and local. Do you know who your local government chairman is? I guess you don’t know, and this illustrates our poor performance in our great office of Citizen. The functions of a local government council includes: provision and maintenance of homes for the destitute and infirm; establishment, maintenance and regulation of slaughter houses, slaughter slabs, markets, motor parks and public conveniences; construction and maintenance of roads, streets, street lightnings, drains and other public highways, parks, gardens, open spaces, or such public facilities as may be prescribed from time to time by the State House of Assembly; collection of certain levies and taxes; provision and maintenance of public conveniences, sewage and refuse disposal (i.e. waste management); provision and maintenance of primary, adult and vocational education; development of agriculture and natural resources, other than the exploitation of minerals; provision and maintenance of health services; and provision of such services that may be conferred upon it by the State House of Assembly. Does your local government council provide those services? I bet you won't say yes. Do you now understand why our towns and villages have become the capitals of garbage, indiscipline, and disorder? Many of our 774 LGAs have populations of sub-one hundred thousand. Some of them receive from the Federation Account more than one billion nairas a year. The question we must ask ourselves is how much of the monthly allocations from the Federation Account and the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) (at both local and state levels) is invested by our local government councils in the provision of those vital services? And do we, citizens care to inquire and apply pressure at this all important tier of government? At the local government level, it is all common to see “thugs” harassing citizens and extorting all kinds of sums from the people in the name of levies and many taxes, which are not applied to the provision of the services listed above. Such monies end up in private pockets, including the hellishly insatiable ones of the local government chairmen, certain traditional rulers and thug leaders. Do you now see that corruption is in all roots of government? What we need to do is focus on every tier of government, and understand the responsibilities of each, and hold the key players to account. No one has the monopoly of knowledge and experience in everything under the sun. The government has to learn to listen, consult, and retract from most of their elitist and unpopular policies when it is clear things aren't adding up, and their policies are boomeranging. No nation becomes civilized where the people hand over their lives to government, and become spectators, blaming the government for every form of personal idleness and indulgence, abdication of social responsibility, and for their choices, wondering why the government did not stop them. The government is not God. And even God does not impose Himself on us. He allows us to make our choices but never indulges us to choose the consequences. Angry traders who hawked on major roads on Tuesday allegedly lynched an official of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Brigade at Iyana-Oworo, Lagos. The official simply identified as Moshood Ayeni, was allegedly stoned to death because his team arrested two hawkers, Jeremiah Nnana and Orich Nwofokoh, who were displaying their wares in traffic, which is against the ban placed by the state government. The agency’s spokesperson, Alabi Rahmat, said in a statement that the street mob pelted the official vehicle with stones, one of which hit the victim in the head, and he fell from the moving vehicle. Her full statement below: “The enforcement officials were returning from an assignment when they saw the traders and tried to do their jobs. They saw the traders hawking in traffic by Car Wash and arrested Jeremiah Nnana and Orich Nwofokoh both selling sausage and phone accessories. “The suspects were taken into the agency’s vehicle marked KRD643DS. Suddenly their colleagues, who had escaped came back and pelted the officials with stones. The hawkers started shouting and calling the KAI officials thief. “The stones thrown by the rampaging hawkers hit the victim on his head inside the vehicle and he fell down and became unconscious.” According to Rahmat, the victim was rushed to the Lagos state’s emergency centre, where he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) but was pronounced dead on arrival. KAI’s Marshal General, Jimoh Amusat, condemned the act, noting that the deceased was only doing his lawful duty. Do you know eating of cucumbers has can benefit the human body remarkably? How often do you cucumber? Below are the ten wonderful benefits of cucumber: 1. It helps you stay hydrated Cucumbers are mainly made up of 95.3 percent water, so, if serve yourself a 5-ounce of cucumber, it practically means 4.8 ounces or 150ml water. That’s about 26 percent of your required daily water intake through food. 2. It keeps the heart healthy Cucumber is rich in potassium, which helps lower blood pressure. Potassium intake is reported to be closely associated with lower rates of stroke and that it also reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. The recommended intake of potassium daily is 4,700 mg, and only a few adults consume up to that amount, so it is advised that eating of cucumbers is an easy way to start increasing your potassium intake. 3. It protects the brain from neurological diseases An anti-inflammatory substance called fisetin is contained in cucumbers, as well as grapes and strawberries. Experts recently suggested that fisetin plays an important role in brain health. It helps reduce the impact of age-related neurological diseases on brain function, and it also helps maintain cognitive function in people with Alzheimer disease. 4. It protects the skin against the effects of aging Cucumber is a regarded as a potential anti-wrinkle agent; this is why it is widely used in skin care to produce cosmetic products. It protects the skin from the effects of aging. 5. It fights inflammation in the body and reduces the risk of cancer Cucumbers help lower the inflammatory response in the body. They contain polyphenols named lignans, which can potentially reduce the risk of certain cancers and cardiovascular diseases. They also contain plant nutrients called cucurbitacins, which have anti-cancer properties: “Scientists have already determined that several different signaling pathways required for cancer cell development and survival can be blocked by the activities of cucurbitacins.” 6. It helps to relieve pain Flavonoids, which are anti-inflammatory substances and tannins in cucumbers, have both been shown to restrict the release of free radicals in the body and helps to reduce pain. “Traditionally, this plant is used for headaches; the seeds are cooling and diuretic, the fruit juice is used as a nutritive and as a demulcent in anti-acne lotions.” As explained in the Journal of Young Pharmacists. Do you know how to manage money? Do you even know why we need to earn and hold money? We need to keep money for transactional reasons (usual daily spendings), speculative reasons (investments to make a profit) and precautionary reasons (emergency). Now let's look at Mr Ben's monthly financial report below; Mr. Ben works temporarily for 10days (8am-6pm) a month. He earns $75 monthly, but spends about $100 (i.e. 133% of his total earnings). Here are the little details of his spendings. * Food: 22% * Transportation: 15% * Booze: 15% * Savings: 0% * Toiletries: 3.95% * Girls: 5% * Internet subscription: 5% * Phone call credit: 4% * Haircut: 2% * Tithes/Alms: 1% * Debts servicing: 15% * Others: 12.05% What can we deduce from Mr Ben's haphazard spending? 1. He is a lavish spender. 2. He does not save which is stupidity. 3. He is stingy (Lol no tithes/alms). 4. He spends too much on booze (eh too bad). 5. He spends more than he earn (debt will surely kill him someday). 6. Can we say he eats too much too? (Lol he is surely a foodie). 7. He is living salary to salary. (Really bad, what if he loses his job?) 8. Well he does not like girls (Lol he is just been stingy). 9. He is not an investor... e.t.c What advises can we give to Mr. Ben on how to properly manage his money? Mr. Ben must learn to; - Establish himself financially. - Understand his income. - Manage his income. - Start budgeting. - Save money. - Review and understand his debts reports. - Prevent and detect any identity theft affecting him. Final words to Mr Ben and You Reading: You must teach yourself to "spend a little now to save a lot later". (Save immediately you receive your income, not after spending because after spending- you will realize there is nothing to save). You must learn to manage your money the proper way because that is the most important step towards taking full control of your life. So Mr. Ben and every one of us must understand where our money is coming from, where it is flowing to and how to make sure that we manage the money in such a way that reflects the values that matter most to us. Now look in the mirror and say to yourself, "I will learn how to manage my money and take control of my life." "This is Mr. Ben, he likes to eat and drink booze a lot, give no alms, pay no tithes, always borrow money, spend lavishly, no savings and a complete a**hole (excuse my French). Do not be like Mr. Ben " http://www.rapportnaija.com/2016/05/do-you-know-how-to-manage-money-look-at.html

I can't stop reading this sizzling piece I submitted into KonnectAfrica "Nigerian Star" online contest in October 2013. It made the first 20 cut and I am still proud about it till date. I believe it is worth resharing. Read and enjoy! My Nigerian Star: NDARABI DAMILOLA FATIMO- IKORODU, LAGOS STATE Ndarabi Damilola Fatima is a native of Ojagboro, Ilorin–East LGA in Kwara State. She advocates for development as a young change agent. She was born in Lagos to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ndarabi on the 9th of January 1992. She’s 21 (now 24). She attended Lagos State Civil Service Model College, Igbogbo Ikorodu Lagos where she distinguished herself. She was previously studying history and international relations at the Lagos state University, Ikorodu campus, Lagos. As her love for justice, order and humanity got stronger; she transferred to the prestigious University of Ilorin to study law in pursuit of her quest for more knowledge. Her advocacy for change and development has been with her over the years, but it became visible when she became the Vice President of the Ikorodu Sickle-cell club, Ikorodu- she herself lives with sickle-cell disease (SCD). She works for Humanity First Charity Organization of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, where she renders selfless and humanitarian service to actualize her dream of touching lives. She has undoubtedly contributed immensely to achieving the objectives and goals of the Ikorodu Sickle-cell club project. She has contributed by essentially creating and increasing SCD awareness by sharing knowledge through the lectures she delivers from time to time. Dami is strongly convinced that ignorance about sickle cell can be largely eradiated by salvaging the society through value re-orientation, thereby educating students in schools, those on the streets, markets and everywhere possible. A recent WHO report estimated that about 2% of newborns in Nigeria are affected by SCD, giving a total figure of 150,000 affected children every year in Nigeria alone. This disease shortens life expectancy when we consider that malaria is common and still prevalent in the country. Sickle cell trait disrupts physical and health fitness, therefore any effort that goes into eradicating the ailment is commendable. SCD may lead to various acute and chronic complications, and this has a way of adding up to the mortality rate in Nigeria. Unfortunately, this is one area where government hasn’t paid enough concern and support. “The pains I suffer from SCD, really taught me compassion and care. Due to my knowledge of how the pains of the crises make me feel, I feel so sensitive to the pains of others, no matter how little it is,” says Damilola. Damilola doesn’t just know the fact about her ailment. She tastes the pains each time her crises surfaces, and because she knows what it feels to go through the excruciating pain that comes from the disease, she has decided to find her way into the hearts of many with her brilliant use of social media as an effective tool to draw attentions to the millions of Nigerians suffering from SCD. Her commitment and passionate dedication to this struggle while working on several heart touching stories stood her out and endeared her to many. She engages in so many online group activities where millions of people suffering from SCD share their struggles and ordeals all over the world. Disregarding her tendency to get weak easily, and being susceptible to strenuous activities, she continues to support the awareness of SCD. She provides information, and passes invitations across the society for the annual World Sickle-cell day convention that comes up every 19th of June which she also attends. Just like Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who was recently nominated for Nobel Peace Prize, Damilola is becoming somewhat of the voice of the voiceless. Damilola Ndarabi, a devoted Muslim, nicknamed Saphylulu (meaning an Ambassador of God), believes religion is a way of life and regards Islam as her greatest influence when it comes to humanity. She’s a firm believer of the importance of service to humanity and a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Nigeria, where she distinguished herself by working voluntarily and tirelessly for the Humanity First charity organization. She partakes in fund-raising events for the charity organization. Her greatest stress and what makes her anxious is the fear of the future, the fear of not achieving her aim of helping people, she’s scared that either death or the challenges of her health will stop her. She says she’s driven by “a passion for people’s well-being irrespective of their tribe or religion. I hope to increase moral values among young Nigerians. I hate to see people suffer or ache, I tend to shoulder people’s problems a lot once I’m aware of it, and if I can’t do a thing about it, it depresses me a lot. I help people because it’s a priority, and because I have made a commitment to do so. This is the essence of my being, to be able to make a difference- and seeing the difference- is a feeling like no other.” She once told me. The popular saying that “live and let’s live” is Damilola’s favorite quote. Her effort is to see a world where there is fewer or no sufferer of SCD. She continues to create awareness about it knowing well how costly it is to manage the crises. She preaches prevention. Over the years, she has learnt the powerful lesson of “how a little thing can be so much at the other end, the lesson that a little effort can move mountains and completely change the life of an individual. I saw the tremendous need, and I felt enormous gratitude from other sufferers of SCD. As a result, I felt that I couldn’t turn my back and walk away.” She explains. She hopes to give her all to Charity organizations, and to create a club for kids living with SCD. She hopes to become a philanthropist, Sickle-cell advocate, lawyer and a human right activist in the nearest future. She wants to be known as an epitome of justice, and a world known Humanitarian. She’s indeed a Nigerian Star, who is MAD (making a difference) in Ikorodu community, and the world at large through her online presence. Health is wealth It is common nutritional advice to have five servings of fruits and vegetables daily in order to meet the body's vitamin requirements but you could be undoing any potential health benefits if you're not doing it right. Nutritionist, Tracy Lesht, says boiling vegetables can lead to a 50 percent nutrient loss thus depleting their benefits. She said that certain vegetables, namely those containing water-soluble vitamins, should never be boiled if you can avoid it. This list includes cabbage, spinach, kale, broccoli, spinach, beans, and peas. The reason is that water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water - so if you boil vegetables containing these vitamins, you won't see much health benefit from them. As an alternative, don't cook them for too long if you must and use little water. She says: 'Minimize the cooking time and use small amounts of water with low heat to absorb the maximum amount of nutrients.' Britain's National Health Service (NHS) agrees with her. It says: “By cooking foods, especially boiling them, we lose some of these vitamins. “By cooking foods, especially boiling them, we lose some of these vitamins. “The best way to keep as many of the water-soluble vitamins as possible is to steam or grill foods, rather than boil them, or to use the cooking water in soups or stews rather than pouring it away.” Lesht urged foodies not to get too worried about cooking technique. “At the end of the day, your food needs to be palatable to you. It's more important to consume fruits and vegetables cooked and prepared the way you enjoy them than it is to be overly concerned with their bioavailability and nutrient loss due to cooking. 'In the grand scheme of things, eating a vegetable and only absorbing 50 per cent of its nutrients is still better than not eating the vegetable at all.” Source: http://www.rapportnaija.com/2016/11/boiling-of-vegetables-leads-to-loss-of-nutrients.html |
Can you tell when something is abnormal in your body by looking into your eyes in the mirror? Do you observe that Doctors look into your eyes when you go for checkups? The roles the eyes play in your life can’t be overstressed. One of such roles is alerting you about your health status. So if any changes occur in your body, you will know immediately. And this may not just be any change. These eye problems may be alerting you to some crucial health conditions that you must not ignore. Below are the things your eyes reveal about your health and make sure to pay attention to these signs. Distorted Vision Distorted vision is a sign that you either need to have your eyes checked by an optician, or you require a break from your devices (such as a computer, phones, etc.) especially if you have been staring at it for many hours. A break will help you regain focus and clear your eyes. Jaundice Jaundice is very common in newborn babies. It causes the yellowing of the skin and whitening of the eyes. It can also happen to adults. If jaundice doesn’t disappear within a reasonable period, it may be a concrete sign of liver issues. When jaundice is in the body, it is very easy to tell in the eyes. Frequent Stye A stye is a small, painful lump on the inside or outside of the eyelid. But, you don’t need to worry too much as it only takes a few days to clear up. However, if it stays for months and doesn’t clear up, you should see a doctor as soon as possible. It could be a sign of cancer referred to as Sebaceous gland carcinoma.
