PoliticsDangote Refinery Employees Dominated By Gen-z Nigerian Engineers by Paraman(op): 6:45pm On Jul 16, 2024
The Dangote Refinery, poised to become one of the world’s largest petroleum producers, is primarily operated by a new generation of Nigerian engineers.

Remarkably, these engineers have an average age of 26, placing them squarely within the Gen Z demographic.

With a capacity to produce 650,000 barrels per day, the refinery is set to become one of the largest suppliers of petroleum products globally. As you step into the complex, the scale of operations is immediately evident.

The refinery’s expansive network of pipes, distillation columns, and control rooms hum with activity, reflecting the intricate processes at play.

Built at an estimated cost of $19 billion, it is the largest refinery in Africa and Europe. However, beyond its industrial scale, the true marvel lies in its workforce.

Gen Z Engineers
Young professionals, many with advanced degrees, are the backbone of this expansive facility. These engineers, predominantly aged between 26 and 28 and mostly educated in Nigeria, are integral to the refinery’s operations. Clad in white lab coats and overalls, and exuding youthful enthusiasm, they manage complex machinery and processes with remarkable expertise.

Aliko Dangote, the chairman of the Dangote Group, emphasized the importance of harnessing local talent. “We believe in the young ones. We have a system where we train them and enrol them in different programs locally and abroad. They are highly skilled and motivated. Some of them have PhDs; you’d be surprised,” Dangote stated in a media parley at the refinery premises in Lekki.

The average age of the employees is around 28 years old, with two to four years of experience in the refining business.

The choice to go for young employees was not a difficult one for Dangote. Decades of importation of petroleum products are evidence of refineries that do not function. Before the Dangote Refinery, Nigeria had four major refineries built during the military era.

The last time they functioned fully was almost two decades ago, suggesting most of their workforce is aging and out of touch with modern refining skills.

Aliko Dangote also acknowledges the challenges faced by managing young people, especially amid the “Japa’ wave, where many seek a better life outside Nigeria, looking for opportunities in countries like Canada where young and skilled workers are highly sought after.

To mitigate this risk, the staff are well trained and paid competitive living wages to ensure that they remain happy. “We pay our employees well and increase salaries very often. However, we know we can still lose some of them to foreign countries or international oil companies, no matter what we pay. However, we have created a pipeline that ensures we hire the brightest minds from Nigerian universities,” Aliko Dangote stated.

Among the current crop of Gen-Z employees are mechanical engineers, civil engineers, oil and gas specialists, and chemical engineers, all contributing to the refinery’s operations.

The engineers took time to explain their roles and simplify the complex methods they employ as part of their operations in the firm.

One mechanical engineer shared, “My role involves ensuring that all the machinery operates smoothly, from the distillation columns to the pipelines.”

A chemical engineer who recently finished his master’s at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria added, “We focus on refining processes, making sure that crude oil is converted efficiently into various products, as we prepare for the production of PMS in the coming weeks.”

An oil and gas specialist from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) also working at the refinery explained, “Our job is to manage the flow of crude oil into the refinery and oversee the distribution of the refined products.”

Dangote Refinery employs over 3,000 employees, with the fertilizer plant alone employing close to 1,500 directly and another 5,000 indirectly.

The refinery is expected to begin selling petrol to local marketers next month.

PoliticsInternational Oil Companies Are Not Refusing To Sell Crude Oil To Dangote by Paraman(op): 6:08pm On Jul 16, 2024
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has stated that International Oil Companies (IOCs) are not refusing to sell crude oil to the Dangote refinery.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Engineer Gbenga Komolafe, made this remark during an interview with Arise TV on Monday.

Komolafe said that while the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) makes it obligatory for IOCs and other producers to sell to local refineries like Dangote, the pricing of the crude is based on a willing-buyer/willing-seller basis.

He said that according to the commission’s knowledge, the IOCs are making crude oil available for interested buyers, and the product is abundant.

“Yes, in recognition of the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) that make the supply of crude to domestic refineries obligatory, the commission has enforced that. The issue is not that the IOCs or other producers are refusing to make crude available.

“To the best of the knowledge of the commission, there is nothing like IOCs being too big or not complying with their statutory obligations to make crude oil available.

“Making the crude available is done at a price and the provisions of the law is that it should be done on a willing-buyer, willing-seller basis.

“No producer is refusing to make crude available to the Dangote refinery,” Komolafe said.

Backstory

The management of the Dangote refinery has repeatedly accused International Oil Companies (IOCs) of refusing to sell and supply crude oil to its massive refinery in Lagos.

The oil company said this refusal has forced them to depend on international suppliers of crude for its refinery.

According to recent reports, about two-thirds of the feedstock of crude in the $19 billion refinery is from the United States.

Recently, the refinery also imported crude from the South American country, Brazil, and it’s planning to further expand its scope to other African oil-producing countries as it ramps up production.

Dangote said the federal government is not doing enough to protect the refinery from manipulative pricing from foreign oil companies.

What you should know
Recently, the federal government, through the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), reached an agreement with producers to permit the sale of crude oil to domestic refiners at market prices.
This resolution ends a supply dispute that has strained relations with international oil companies.
In addition, NUPRC requested monthly cargo price quotes on crude oil supply and delivery from both producers and refiners.
The NUPRC said it aims to balance upstream development with a sustainable domestic energy supply chain, reinforcing its role in fostering a fair and profitable oil production environment.

EXCLUSIVE: Dubious Website Positioned To Scam Nigerians Through UAE Visa Application

OLUWATOBI ODEYINKA

On Monday, the Ministry of Information, and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris announced that the United Arab Emirates has lifted its visa ban on Nigerians, after diplomatic agreements with the Nigerian government. Although there is no such announcement from UAE authorities.

Soon after the announcement, Minister of Communication and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, unveiled a website (https://documentverificationhub.ae) purportedly created to , and offering visa services to Nigerians. Initially, netizens raised concerned about the seemingly exorbitant fee of around N600,000 naira for visa application. However, an investigation by West Africa Weekly’s David Hundeyin has shown that the website is neither owned nor operated by UAE authorities.

Firstly, domain names of UAE government websites all end with the “.gov.ae” URL. But this website ends with “.ae” signalling that it is not an official UAE government website. Furthermore, unlike government-owned or operated websites, the identity of the registrar of this controversial website, according to @scamadviser, is hiding their identity by using a paid proxy.

Findings by Hundeyin show that the proxy owner of the website is one Jean Geoffrion, a Canadian who is the CTO at a Spanish IT company called Global Voice Group, which according to its website, specialises in “provision of RegTech and Govtech solutions…domestic revenue mobilisation and regulatory compliance.”

“This company also appears to only do business in Africa and in fact much of its management team is African. So in summary, we have a website with a hidden owner contracting an IT middleman who specialises in “raising sustainable revenue” through high-traffic regulatory activities (such as visa applications) to operate the website on their behalf,” Hundeyin noted.

It was also noted that the IP address of the website is hosted on an Amazon AWS server in Ireland, further proving that it is not connected in any way connected to the UAE government, which hosts all its official government websites on the Middle East (UAE) Amazon Web Services regional servers.

I reckon only a military Head Of State could have enough temerity to remove him and probably weather the storm that’s bound to follow!

PoliticsRe: Come Out & Protest Because Tinubu's Evil Government Is Designed To Kill You by Paraman: 10:39am On Jul 16, 2024
savenaijatoday:
We as citizens should know our rights and how to make demands and force them. Tinubu's bad governance is impoverishing and killing Nigerians but they want you to keep quiet and sing praises of the one killing you. You can't afford food, good healthcare, you can't pay for children bills, inflation is rising, income is dropping. How do you cope? You can see the evil government of Tinubu is designed to kill you. How would anyone ask you not to protest? They're clueless, the government is confused and run of propaganda. They want you caged and when you die, they don't care. Do they know you exist?? So what is your stake as a citizen of Nigeria? You have to stand and demand and get it. Anyone asking you not to come out and protest is a thief, he is evil or a mentally disordered beast.

When you come out to protest get your demands clear, don't back down, call your friends, neighbors etc. Sensitize them to know the government doesn't care about your life and has designed to kill you. Remove evil government. Nothing absolutely nothing will happen. It's because we cower that gives them the courage to loot with impunity and come out to tell lies. How can less than 2000 people cage and ruin the lives of 200 million people? Don't you see it's not normal. Change your mindset, walk the talk, take action, leave your home and work for the betterment of Nigeria's future. Nigeria belongs to all of us, not few kleptomaniac and propagandists who deceive you and laugh at your gullibility.

With the level of hardship now, any politicians driving cars that are worth 50 to 100 million is a big thief. He doesn't deserve to be our leader. He is an unsympathetic big thief. If he is telling you not protest, he should sell the car and give the money to the masses who are hungry. Imagine the thieves who have stolen your money are telling you not cry and you want to believe them.
Come out and protest, change the destiny of Nigeria. Make your life better. It is not your destiny to suffer and die. Remove evil government. They don't care about you. Life is no longer bearable in Nigeria. If you die in silence, you're a fool.
You can hold your protest in Anambra, Enugu or Abia state
