TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Parizz: 9:25pm On Nov 14, 2023 |
oyaskii: Hmmmm, the takes on this movie are so interesting, somewhat "inorganic" if i should term it properly.
On X (formerly known as Twitter), David Fincher's colleagues are praising the movie to the high heavens and some going far as calling it, "his magnum opus" and yet i keep seeing takes like yours from none industry heads saying it was average at best. My best inclination is that those industry heads are probably lying or over rating the flick just to do right by one of thier own.
I don't think i have seen a rating above average on the thread here, and i most likely think that's the true reflection of it, though i am yet to see it.
David Fincher is an absolute legend but he was probably due a miss, so fairs but it continues to retritiate the notion i have had for a while that art as it pertains to movies, series and even music is a "dying breed" and I'm sorry, these 3 art forms may never hit the heights of yester years. I was comparing movies and songs from 00-10 and 16' to present some months back, i was so shocked at the obvious deep in quality. Back then you could see like 10 potential oscar best picture property in like the first half of the year, compared to now, because let's be serious, and i say this with love because i really like , but in a "proper movie year", Barbie shouldn't be anywhere near a "Oscar best shout". A "good" movie on a "good day" but totally blown out of proportion by the insane marketing gimmick mainly because of outside forces wanting to make bank with the hysteria.
Worse still, It is now a norm not to expect "magic" from film makers you reverred, because "The killers of the Flower Moon", hype died in like a week, and i have genuinely not heard anything about it in weeks, the hype of the build up was greater than the hype of the release itself and with "The Killer" going astray like this according to you lot, then we might have a serious problem!, because this 2 were supposed to be among the "absolute best" this year. Martin Scorsese and David Fincher having project out in the same year would have been on paper, an avid cinephile wet dream, but it doesn't seem like it. It is only going to get worse, because these actual old heads we trust to deliver on good movies, because they have had a rich history of cinema and the world around to draw inspiration from, are actually about to phase out and the number of projects they release will drastically reduced, so new heads filmmakers who are in thier late 20's and thirties are entering the scene now, Emma Seligman who made "Bottoms" is only 28! meaning her inspiration is from a "pre and post covid woke world, where you have to please everyone even if it goes against your personal believes" meaning more idealistic woke BS movies on the horizon. that looks like she's on top of the female filmmakers food chain now, only just turned 40 this year lool!
I hold movies to a certain standard and I can't genuinely name 10 really good movies from this year that i would say were really good or measured up to that standard and we are in freaking November!!. I don't buy the talk that the strike affected the industry cuz lets be sincere and serious, only DUNE 2 was the only potential really serious movie on paper that the strike affected, if we are looking at things holistically. Movies used to be my perfect gateway but these days i could go days without seeing a flick and i wouldn't flinch, because each time i find the time to see one, it seems like a chore already, playing russian roulette to see the one that will suck less, even the indie "A24" esque ones that you would trust to deliver don dey get K leg. The really good movies i saw this year were from way way back and that says alot.
I can vouch confidently for music, movies and series and thier undeniably decaying quality but i can't say same for other media forms tho since they aren't my forte because it seems my anime guys here are still eating good on a steady.
Well, I coped "The Killer" and Oppenheimer, before i left for a trip but unfortunately for me, i took only the work laptop 😩 and left the entertainment PC at home, thinking i would need to be settled in the comfort of my home to enjoy these 2 on the best platform but e be like say with reviews like this, na to watch this "The Killer" now and get it over with, because" it is the hope that kills" 😒 kilode. didn't you do summary in school? nawa o. You for kuku ask for extra sheet. mtcheww nonsense |

abduleez1: The Killer.....6.5/10
This is probably the worst David Fincher movie I've ever watched. It's not a bad movie but I expected better from Fincher. It was nothing unlike Fincher's previous work and felt more or less like a generic hitman movie. It was pretty slow, boring, and somewhat flat most times...It was only when we got to Tilda Swinton's appearance that my interest was truly piqued and that's very much towards the end.
There were times I wondered what this was all about. It had little character, unlike Fincher's signature mastery. Only Fincher work to date I felt indifferent towards. Fassbender and Tilda did a good job but the plot and the story build up let them down. Film felt like it was meandering without a serious thought to the point to it all.
I also didn't quite find the Cinematography very kind as there were some weird angles and the occasional deliberate way they framed some scenes where characters' faces were cut out from the composition— mainly just showing their nose down to their lower body— it was mostly jarring and distracting.
The first Fincher movie I'd watched where I fell asleep a few times. The few times I felt "this is Fincher" was in the dialogue. Aside from that, this movie's quality doesn't come close to his filmography (at least the ones I've watched).
Not a bad movie. Just not David Fincher's strongest work judging by his pedigree. I guess it didn't help that I already watched 4 David Fincher films earlier this year before now. So the bar was set pretty fvvking high. Especially since he's presently my favourite director. not long enough |

Politics › Old Naira Notes Remain Legal Tender Indefinitely – CBN by Parizz(op): 8:46pm On Nov 14, 2023 |
The Central Bank of Nigeria has extended the validity of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes indefinitely . The apex bank’s Director, Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin in a statement titled, “CBN To Allow Old Design Naira Banknotes As Legal Tender, Ad Infinitum” on Tuesday, said the decision is line with international best practices and to forestall a repeat of earlier experiences implementing the policy. The PUNCH reports that the CBN introduced the redesigned N200, N500 and N1.000 denominations in October 2022 and certain deadlines were set for the old design of these denominations to cease as legal tenders. The statement read, “Without prejudice, the Central Bank of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public of its desire to extend the legal tender status deadline of the old design of N200, N500 and N1,000 denominations; ad infinitum. “This is in line with international best practices and to forestall a repeat of earlier experiences. Related News • Governorship Election Live Updates “Thus, all banknotes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, in accordance with Section 20(5) of the CBN Act 2007, will continue to remain legal tender, ad infinitum. even beyond the initial December 31, 2023, deadline. “The Central Bank of Nigeria is working with the relevant authorities to vacate the subsisting court ruling on the same subject. “Accordingly, all CBN branches across the country will continue to issue and accept all denominations of Nigerian banknotes, old and redesigned, to and from deposit money banks. “The general public is enjoined to continue to accept all Naira banknotes (old or redesigned) for day-to-day transactions and handle these banknotes with utmost care, to safeguard and protect the lifecycle of the banknotes. “Also, the general public is encouraged to embrace alternative modes of payment, e-channels, for day- to-day transactions.” https://punchng.com/breaking-old-naira-notes-remain-legal-tender-indefinitely-cbn/ |

jeromestarks: Keep chatting with her for now. Unfriend her on Facebook and add some of her friends who have liked her photos. Chat them up and ask them confidential questions/ information about your girl. Dig deep. Make sure you ask those friends about her. That's one way to go FBI on a girl. Ask her same questions you asked her friends. If you discover any form of lie, keep her at arms length and never develop any true feelings for her. Just use her to cash in.
If she's sincere in all angles, invest in her a little more. Give her time. Support her emotionally but don't do monetary support for now. Confess your love for her and arrange how you will meet. Try to follow her vibes. If she's feeling you, feel her too and continue the wooing. Don't forget to ask about her past relationships and what lead to the break ups. Learn from everything she says. See if she's a selfish person or not. Watch out for manipulative moves.
Finally, never start what you can not do till the end. For insurance, If you can't call her everyday, do not start it.
Ride on son. thanks |
