The United States has deployed a nuclear submarine capable of carrying up to 154 Tomahawk missiles to the Middle East.

According to the Associated Press, citing Timothy Hawkins, a spokesman for the US Navy's 5th Fleet, the submarine passed through the Suez Canal to "ensure regional security and maritime stability."

The publication notes that this may be a show of force on the part of Washington due to tensions with Iran.
