My fellow nairalander, and fellow mathematician in the house. Who is the first professor of mathematics in Nigeria. I know that Olubummo and Ezeilo bag their professor in 1964. Who is the first among them. Nobody has been able to answer this question correctly.

Therefore x=-1



x+1=0




Divide the polynomial by x+1



You will get x²+x-6



Solve x²+x-6=0



x²+3x-2x-6= 0



x(x+3)-2(x+3)= 0



(x-2)(x+3) = 0



x=2 or x= -3



Therefore, x=-1, 2 or -3

For inverse and identity elements in binary operation,

e = identity element
a' = inverse of a

For any operation,
a * e = a and a * a' = e

For instance, in addition operation, the identity element e = 0(zero) since
a + 0 = a (no other number can replace 0 here giving us the same result, a)
While the inverse of a is -a since a + (-a) = 0.

Binary operation is just all about following the definition of a particular operator *,¥ and so on. Just substitute the harvest values and you see how easy it is.

First and foremost, square both sides to get
x² - 9 = (x + 1)²
x² - 9 = x² + 2x + 1, if you collect like terms from here, you get
2x = -10
x = -5

Although, if you come across this in your UTME, I'll SUGGEST(just a mere suggestion) you don't bother solving it, just test each of the options.
