PoliticsAmaechi Blasts Wike Over Probe Commission by Passingshit(op): 9:47am On Aug 24, 2015
There are signs that the former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi is not ready to honour the probe process to be commenced by the Justice G Omereji commission which was set up to examine his administration.
The commission which was set up by Governor Nyesom Wike is expected to commence sitting today in Port Harcourt, but Amaechi has doubted the ability of the body to be fair to him, Vanguard reports.

In a statement from his media office, Amaechi blasts Wike saying that the governor had on several occasions publicly indicted him of corruption, stressing that there was no way a commission he established to probe him will come up with anything contrary.

However, Wike responded quickly, wondering why Amaechi is afraid of the commission, saying Amaechi’s media statements around the commission were ploy to put pressure on the government to halt the probe which he could not achieve through the court.
Wike spoke through his media aide, Mr Opunabo Nko-Tariah, saying there would have been no need for a judicial probe if the governor had found him guilty of the allegations. He further advised the former governor to appear before the commission to prove his innocence rather than running to the media to seek how to stop the commission from going ahead with its job.

In line with that, the former governor said he was willing to submit himself only if the commission is unbiased and ready to operate within the ambit of the law.
Amaechi said: “This Wike’s probe is dead on arrival. It’s ill-conceived and ill-motivated. Wike’s probe is designed to twist and distort, or even completely alter selected legitimate government transactions in his desperation to cook up, and fabricate sham cases of corruption against Amaechi. Wike’s probe commission shall not achieve anything beyond political excitements, entertainment and theatrics.

“Anyone who has been following events in Rivers State knows this Wike probe is just a fraudulent sham, a deceptive mission to indict Amaechi. Wike’s one-point agenda is to go after his predecessor,”
he said.

The former governor said he will continue to use every constitutional and legal means available to protect his name and image from what he tagged as massive smear campaign, state-sponsored onslaught against him by the Wike led government whose sole agenda is a desperate search for his political downfall. He also took on Justice G. Omereji, the chairman of the commission, describing him as an enemy.

The former governor said that what Wike has set out to do is anything but a fair probe. He added in the statement that the commission will not be fair to him because it was set up to indict him.

PoliticsBuhari Sends Obasanjo To Guinea Bissau by Passingshit(op): 4:42pm On Aug 21, 2015
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari on August 21 has expressed deep apprehension over the unfolding political situation in Guinea Bissau.

It should be noted that Guinea-Bissau’s new prime minister Baciro Dja was sworn in Thursday despite angry protests from the ruling party, deepening a political crisis a week after the government was sacked.
Femi Adesina, presidential media aide, in a statement, said in displaying of true African solidarity and brotherhood, Buhari had sent ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo as his special envoy to intercede and assist find a solution to the crisis rocking the country.

Buhari’s spokesman revealed that Obasanjo boarded on the first leg of his mission by consulting with the incumbent chairman of the Economic Community of West African States Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Macky Sall of Senegal, in Dakar on August 20, Thursday.

He lamented that while Obasanjo was still consulting with President Sall, President Jose Mario Vaz of Guinea Bissau advanced to appoint and swear-in a new prime minister, Baciro Dja.

Adesina said this development has gotten worse the political situation in his country.

PoliticsNigeria Needs A Hero – Fani Kayode by Passingshit(op): 9:08am On Aug 21, 2015
Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation has said Nigeria needs a hero who could turn the country woes around.

According to the former minister who served as the spokesperson for President Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential campaign, Nigerians are under a spell.

In a Facebook post titled, “When cometh our deliverer?” Fani-Kayode said Nigeria had been underdeveloped for too long due to bad leadership and a dormant citizenry.

He said Nigeria needed a hero who could turn things around just as Oliver Cromwell did in England in 1653 shortly after the British Civil War when he sacked the Rump parliament and seized power.

Fani-Kayode said Cromwell, who was the Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland, paid the ultimate price so that England could become a great country.
He said: “I look at Nigeria today and the behaviour of our collective overlords reminds me very much of the behaviour of the pre-Cromwellian “Rump Parliament’’ in England. Can anyone be in any doubt that it is time for us to speak those same words that Oliver Cromwell spoke to the English Parliament on April 20th, 1653 to our leaders here in Nigeria?

“Who will go forth courageously and speak truth to tyranny in the power of the Lord. When will God raise our own deliverer?

“Where is our own Oliver Cromwell or our own biblical Jehu? Where is our Elijah? When will the Jezebels that rule our land be thrown down from the balcony and when will the dogs eat their flesh and drink their blood?

“When will our Ahab be slaughtered in battle? When will the Nigerian people say ‘enough is enough’ and demand the change that they so desperately crave?

“When will they wake up from their accursed slumber and wipe away the faecal mess with which they have been stained, smothered, blinded, deafened and silenced?
“When will the spell that has been placed upon them be finally broken? When will they be free from this unwholesome bondage and be rid of their godless fears?

“When will their shackles be finally broken and when will they see, feel, hear and live again? When, O when, will our people be free and when will they become the pride of Africa that they were destined to be?

“In the Nigerian context, the question is this – when will our great stars emerge and when will Nigeria’s time to shine on the world stage come?

“When will the words of Oliver Cromwell find relevance in our space and when will the Lord answer our prayer and deliver us from the evil that plagues our land?”

Meanwhile, Fani-Kayode, has explained why the Igbos are most likely to break away from Nigeria in no distant future.

Yesterday serious allegations were posed against the new member of President Muhammadu Buhari’s team, Williams Babatunde Fowler, who was has been appointed head of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

The detailed investigation suggested that Fowler’s Honorary Doctorate Degree of the Irish International University, which was proudly announced by the presidency, is of no value as it was issued by a fraudulent, non-existing university. More questions were raised even regarding Fowler’s bachelor’s degree.
The report caused outrage among Nigerians who wondered how a man of, so-to-say, insufficient qualification can manage affairs in the FIRS. Those opposing the acting government referred to the pre-election reports doubting the education level of Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate.

Naij.com readers were like…
1. Some came down on Buhari:

Sylvanus Ikechukwu: “Even Buhari holds fake WAEC cert.so all d same.pls is no shocker to me at all.”

Idongesit Ibok: “D most careful person ends up makin’ d worst careless mistakes…. Buhari, Buhari, Buhari. How many times have i called u?… Ok”

Aminu Sa’ad Beli: “Well, at least, Tunibu, Buhari and Fowler share one thing: School Certificate credibility! May God save Nigeria!”
2. Some wondered what the whole mess was about

Olufemi Odusina: “If Baba Buhari has fake WASC and he is realy performing what about Gej that had good Phd but only performed well in stealing our money . SAI BUHARI,LOUD.”

Brass Ige Samu Aledare: “WHAT has fake honorary Degree got to do with this appointment?”
3. Some just asked to give Fowler time to do his job, with or without the credible certificate''

Chinedu Ohams: “Certificate or not, pls let the man do the work if he can. We need people who can perform even if what they have is only NEPA Bill.lol”

George Chris: “What makes Buhari fake? You people can,t appreciate something right yet you want something good. Even a school cert holder can perform if with the right company. U haters open your eyes and embrace change.”

4. Some doubted the authenticity of the report

Gabriel Mike Mike Segun: “Dat is a story 4gods.”

Habiodun Costa: “Wat eva u people lik publish it no wahala, d records are there. Befo he was given d job in lagos, d highest amount eva realised was 3billion nd wen he got der it rose to 20biloon per mont. Most of u writin rubbish here canot turn 10,000 to 15, 000 in a year, but instead of celebratin success wat u do cus all of u are failures is to look likeminds.”

Twitter users were like…

What’ll happen now?,This one they’re saying Babatunde Fowler has an honorary doctorate degree from fake university.

— Fadahunsi Oladipupo (@seunfadahunsi) August 21, 2015

How come Fowler did not know his honorary degree was fake cos if he did, calls his integrity into question. Maybe not his ability but still

— N (@Imagervet) August 21, 2015

If fowler choose to use a FAKE phd , He should bear the consequence, Things must Change @ogundamisi

If fowler really has fake degree and certificate 4rm a non existing university how come he’s been working in Lagos state govt? Hilarious tho

— The FirstLady (@Aweleokolo) August 21, 2015

It is not clear whether the presidency will provide official comments on the issue. However, it is worth noting that the discussions in social media are gathering steam.

Ikwerre Edo? undecided Thunder fire you and your family, op! I'm from Emohua, graduated from UNIPORT, and I know my origin. Even though we're not fully considered Igbos wetin wan carry us reach Edo? undecided thunder fire you again!

Origin

The Ikwerre are considered by a great majority of scholars as a subgroup of the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria,[1][2][3]

There are several theories over the origin, and the strongest and most widely accepted one is the theory linking the Ikwerre to an Igbo origin.[5] They would be descendents from an Igbo migration from Awka and Orlu areas towards South. Igbo scholars take Ikwerre as part of the Southern Igbo. Amadi, an Ikwerre scholar, says that the Igbo origin theory has some support even inside Ikwerre themselves, with Ikwerre would be descendants of a migration of Arochukwu Igbo, with Okpo Nwagidi being the leader of the Ikwerre tribe. Before the civil war, there had been dissident voices that claimed that Ikwerre could have migrated from Owerri, Ohaji, Ngwa, and Etche areas of Igboland.[5] But when Port Harcourt was conquered by Nigeria during the Biafran War and the Igbo people from other parts of Igboland fled the territory, a UN report says that the Ikwerre decided to claim that the Ikwerre were non-Igbo for convenience.[6] The Ikwerre are recognized officially as a separate group in the 1979 Nigerian Constitution.
