Jijola: Morning all. On whether IELTS or TOEFL, I wouldn't have commented again but for the benefit of those making the choice.I once wanted to write too, so I had to do some research. IELTS is more acceptable for the purpose of travelling to Canada. TOEFL is preferred for US.But this is not to say that Canada does not accept TOEFL, just that IELTS is more favoured.This is not based on hearsay. Just do some research online, or visit the British Council to find out.
IELTS has a British origin, and is maintained by Cambridge. TOEFL has an American origin, maintained by an organisation in the US.Lest we forget, the English speaking part of canada has strong historical ties with the UK, as those that settled in those parts migrated from the UK. Till date, the Queen of England is still the Head of State of Canada. Perhaps, these reasons account for why Canada favours IELTS which is run by a UK institution.
Note that most schools in Canada waive English tests for students who have been instructed in a previous programme run in English. The IELTS requirement is often used for immigration purposes (Permancent Residence).
We may check the following link for some useful hints from peeps that have tried making a choice between the two, and we can also do further research as we deem fit.

U need to download that medical form, u can't click on the soft copy so I guess u may have to print it out and tick YES, Upload it back to that segment then continue.. hope this helps!

Abeg make una bring cloths from Nigeria ooo (plus akube as the case may be, no b everybody b OBO)..clothes are expensive here oohh as par say dat naija mind still go dey, u go dey change every dollar price to naira (normal tin, but wt time, u wld get used to the dollar tin, and dose expensive stuffs wld look cheap).. just make sure u buy the thick ones (I brought enough cloths from Nigeria and i no regret am)..... Since I came here, I have been wearing nice shirts (TM shirt inclusive, akube like new) to class... the only things is that I wear sweat shirt/ pull overs on top then when I enter class its warm and i pull d sweat shirts..... even my supo hail me one day say I look nice........ people wey give u 46kg (26kg each) for luggage know say u go need something... bring food stuffs as welll, atleast to survive the first month without buyin thing out..till u get used to their market structure here... u go shock say them get akube for Canada (thrift stores and co), all na sameee except u wan form Dangote first son

As for school tins, this Canadians wan turn me to olodo but God pass dem..dem talk too fast bikoooo, my bangladeshi friend begin dey learn advance english... u just gatta be attentive in class, ask questions when u dont understand, and try as much to be hardworkin (even if na gbanko levels) cos dem go almost kill u with assignment, most of which you have no clue....

Money matter, abegiii come with enough cash ooo... everything here na money ooooo... and plz dnt expect say that ur naija friend wey dey here go help u.... (though we have alot of lovely n nice Nigerians around as well).....BTW, cook ur own food, no dey copy copy....all fingers are not equal oooo...ur own time dey come...wait for ur time, cut cost as much as u can even if u have to share apartment....

oyinbo no send u ooo, if u like drive bugatti, wear prada, ferragamo, versace, VL, curtis,.... u and dat boy wey wear rag na the same...na ur personality matter oo... u go even see prof dey wear short..... one day me and my prof. follow enter public transit oooo.....

U can start cutting cost right from ticket purchase.... As for me I be pako boy, so na egypt here I pursue, and it cost me less than 250K to Winnipeg from Lagos, as against 355k on KLM ( see the difference?)... u wan know the trick?, use ur wise...KLM, ethopia, egypt ooo,,, all na the same...no let them foool u. (ask dommakavelli, we fly together).......na same stop overs, na same timin.....if dem no dey fly direct to ur province...book am enter toronto, book connecting flight urself online.. patapata dem go tell u to pay extra luggage of just $20CAD..... a good site to do that is www.expedia.com.......

jadapinket13: @Patdeka my advise for you is to go to Cdhc and fill the enquiry form, let them know that people that applied after you have received their trv, so what is happening to your application. I want to be honest with you. There might be a problem with your application. If you want me to advice you further tell me the type of documents you submitted, who your sponsor is, etc. i will be able to help. But still go to Cdhc first on Monday the 30th to find out the status of your application

kjbobo: As I much as I agree with you on the need to be prepared. ..dont let us over stress this thing to scare people....As much as Naija unis arent practical oriented. ...they fortify your retentive ability....I dont know the school you finished from but I wont classify Ife as rubbish....Its a great school that has built me....functioning with little resources....Look at how much funding these guys here recieve from Agencies?And check out their endowment fund?compare to one of my profs in Ife receiving 10000 naira per session for research?Me honestly speaking,dont believe these guys are more intelligent than my lecturers back home. ...they are just trying!
The challenge most people I believe will have when they come is adjusting back to academic life....cos we don comot from school long ago except for the extremely unserious one....
Cos come to think of it.....the studying condition is too conducive for an average serious Nigerian not to do well....And I have been following my pals here and in U.S...na As all through. ..most of them. ..in fact clearing awards...I look at my environment now compared to back in Ife....And I trying to psyche myself up that its tough here but my mind keeps telling me to face the truth..."this is small potatoes compared to naija"
There is light,there's 24 hr internet access,there's assurance of 3 square meal....infact in my case i have an "office" furnished with study corner,system and lounge(filled with stuff to eat in school) and all i need do is study!I dont see it as tough....i see it as switching back to school mode for those that went to decent schools back home and were serious!
My advice:switch back to reading mode...be more practical and thinking oriented....never think these guys are more intelligent than us(what I found out?,they can talk in class but depth no too dey for a couple of them ),be grateful to God for your naija experience!
Cos when I speak in class. ..dem sef dey listen!
Lastly,Believe and never fear that you are coming here to be the best.....not to just study!target the skies maybe you will fall on tree top.....Trust in God....and work.....Success is inevitable!
