From what I observed, that monitoring didn't seem effective. I know of one beneficiary who received ₦700,000 but used the money for food and Christmas clothes for her children instead of the intended purpose.
Towards the end of Buhari's administration, the government announced that beneficiaries should begin repaying the loans. The person I'm referring to simply stopped using the bank account into which the money was paid. As far as I know, she has never repaid the loan.
This raises a genuine question: how does the Federal Government recover these loans, including the student loan, since they are loans and not grants?
If someone simply abandons the bank account that received the loan, does that mean the debt disappears? Or does the loan remain outstanding and eventually affect the person's credit record or lead to other consequences?
