Actually, you are right. The Ballon D'or recently assumed more prominence from about 2010 till date when it was merged with the Fifa World best award. But since 2006, all winners of Fifa best have automatically won the Ballon D'or and with the official merger in 2010, the Ballon D'or had shed its regional perception and assumed a global dimension for its holder.
