That is just it. Over the years, our creativity has been killed by the availability of cheap foreign alternatives. The current realization with the drop in oil dollars has just demonstrated it is not sustainable to keep living on foreign/imported items. As a matter of urgency and even National security, we must be able to produce the basics here.

best post so far. we have food scientist here in nigeria, we importing tomatoes from a country that produce less than we do.. my opinion let's engage our food scientists and give enabling environment to work...

My brother before now used to import from the U.S specific cutting machines mainly used for school related materials. Dollar has shoot up, it is way too high to import. He has knocked down one of the machines, to understudy the mechanism and with his knowledge of physics he now has a good understanding of how it was assembled. He has visited many scrap markets, fabricators and by this weekend his prototype will be ready at about 25% cost of what he should have paid for buying it in the U.S.
