The dynamics are not always the same. When l was involved in a rice project in Anambra State l was staying in Awka while the project was located in Achalla which is about an hour drive despite l was always there almost every day of the week even on a Sunday if there was an emergency, l know the challenges.

Once you have a local you can trust then you are on a profitable path.

Where your school is located should also be a deciding factor. lf for example your school is UNEC, it makes no sense having a farm in Ezeagu area due to distance.

@OP, as an alumni of rice farming you do not need that much to start out. l will always encourage anyone who wants to start out should do a small plot for your experiment, you choose whether to opt for upland ot lowland variety. Since it is a small space, it should go manual from land preparation through to threshing.

On a bigger scale of about a hectare, once one has a good variety of paddy which is high yielding for planting and gets a thresher/winnower for post harvest operation one would save much because most local farm hands can cause one high blood pressure when you see your rice being wasted all in the name of threshing with stick!

So sad.
