A Nigerian man and his girlfriend were arrested after they were caught travelling with drugs by members of the East London Tactical Response Team. According to the provincial spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, after the TRT’s R75 000 drug bust, the investigation was taken over by the East London-based South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau. IOL reports that Promise Uchechukwu, 29, and his girlfriend, Anihle Sikade, 27, were arrested on Saturday, March 18. “It is alleged that on March 18, members attached to TRT discovered a large quantity of drugs, ammunition, and firearm while searching a house in the Cuba administrative area in Butterworth. They arrested one suspect. “On the same day, they received further information that the drug dealer from East London who supplied the suspects with drugs was on his way to Butterworth for another delivery. “The members had a description of the vehicle which is normally used to deliver the drugs and kept observation on the N2 near Komga when they noticed the suspicious vehicle,” Mgolodela said. Upon searching the vehicle, five packets of tik were hidden under the passenger seat. “The driver and his girlfriend were arrested for dealing drugs. Five 100g packets of tik to the street value of R75 000 and a Ford Ecosport worth R80 000 were seized during the arrest,” Mgolodela said. The couple appeared in the Komga Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Their case was postponed until March 28 for a bail application. The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has filed his petition challenging the victory of Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s president-elect in the 25 February election. Mr Obi, who came third in the election, filed his petition at the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja, at about midnight on Tuesday. The Labour Party candidate sought five prayers in his petition. Principal among his prayers is his call on the court to cancel the 25 February presidential election and order a fresh poll. The petition, jointly filed by Mr Obi and the Labour Party as co-petitioners, joined the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr Tinubu, Shettima Kashim (vice president-elect), and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the respondents. Tuesday, being the 21st day after the declaration of the results of the election on 1 March, is the last day he any other aggrieved candidates and political parties had to file their petition in court. Tuesday, being the 21st day since the declaration of the results of the election on 1 March, is the last day he as well as any other aggrieved candidates and political parties have to file their petition in court. INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, who announced the final results in the early hours of 1 March in Abuja, said Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) PDP came second in the election. Atiku polled a total of 6,984,520 votes in the election. Mr Obi of the Labour Party came third in the election with a total of 6,101,533 votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP came fourth with 1,496,687 votes. Grounds of the petition Setting out the grounds for the petition, Mr Obi’s lead lawyer, Livy Uzoukwu, said Mr Tinubu “at the time of the (presidential) election was not qualified to contest the election.” Mr Uzoukwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), argued that the president-elect “was not duly elected by majority of the lawful votes cast at the time of the election.” The senior lawyer led Atiku’s legal team when the former vice president unsuccessfully challenged the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. Prayers Among his five prayers, Mr Obi urged the Presidential Election Petition Court to “determine that at the time of the presidential election held on 25 February, 2023,” Messrs Tinubu and Shettima “were not qualified to contest the election. ” He prayed the tribunal “to determine that all the votes recorded for” Mr Tinubu “in the election are wasted votes, owing to the non-qualification” of the president-elect and Mr Shettima. “That it be determined that the 2nd Respondent (Mr Tinubu) having failed to score one-quarter of the votes cast at the Presidential Election in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, was not entitled to be declared and returned as the winner of the presidential election held on 25 February, 2023.” Mr Obi prayed the tribunal to make “an order cancelling the election and compelling the 1st respondent (INEC) to conduct a fresh election at which the 2nd Respondent (Tinubu), 3rd respondent (Shettima) and 4th respondent (APC) shall not participate.” Source: https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/589365-just-in-peter-obi-files-petition-against-tinubus-victory-seeks-five-prayers.html |

asanausana91:did you read the part “and Result Procedures”? |
Has INEC not uploaded all the presidential results on the IREV? The court didn't order INEC to upload the result within a stipulated time. INEC can decide to upload the result after 48 hours or more. No court can order or force INEC to upload any result on IREV within a stipulated time. We need to read and understand must of this court rulings! Justice Obiora Egwuatu, in a judgment, also ordered the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, to upload a scanned copy of the EC8A to INEC Result Viewing Portal, IReV, immediately after the completion of all the polling units voting and results’ procedures in Akwa Ibom. RESULT PROCEDURES: Collation of the results from the ward level to the LGA level to the STATE COLLATION CENTRE where it will be projected on the screen. |

The Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have withdrawn an application they filed to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission to allow their agents to participate in the process of sorting out ballot papers that were used for the February 25 presidential election. Both the PDP and Atiku, who are separately challenging the outcome of the election that was declared in favour of Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, that they have deemed it fit to discontinue the application. When the motion ex-parte, marked: CA/PEC/10M/2023, was called up for hearing on Wednesday, Atiku, through his team of lawyers led by Joe Kyari Gadzama, told the court that he filed a notice of discontinuance. Following this, Justice Joseph Ikyegh-led three-member panel struck out the application. A member of Atiku’s legal team, who did not want his name mentioned, disclosed that the decision to withdraw the application was an outcome of a meeting his legal team held with the leadership of the electoral body on Tuesday. He said initially the application was filed because of challenges and administrative bottlenecks they encountered at the INEC office when they wanted access to the election materials as granted by the court. “However, before the application which was dated March 13 could be slated for hearing, INEC, on its own, called our legal team for a meeting. “It was at that meeting which held yesterday (Tuesday) that all the grey areas were sorted out, with INEC pledging to allow our agents to observe the process of sorting out some of the electoral materials we requested, especially the ballot papers. “Since that was primarily our prayer in the fresh application we filed, we felt that it would not be necessary to proceed with the hearing. So, to save judicial time, we filed a notice of discontinuance which was accordingly granted.” Source: https://punchng.com/election-materials-pdp-atiku-withdraw-court-application-against-inec/ OAM4J Mynd44 |
