no, igbanke is a combination of Esan and Ika.

Oga it is not any combination.
Unless you accept that Esan is a combination of Igbo and Esan.

Igbanke is strictly Ika, an Igboid language.
Whatever influences Esan has on Igbanke was not a one way traffic, Igbanke also exacted an Igbo influence on Esan. So if you are saying that Igbanke is Easn + Ika, then it means that Esan is Bini +Igbo (Ika). Now does this make sense to you?

Umu ekwensu.

The Yorubas are not alone in their Igbophobia. Its the whole damn country. From North-North, to West-West, to South-South.
There is no difference between all of them. Nothing unite all of them together than shared Igbophobic sentiments. It's innate in all of them.

Ndiigbo are not interested in any useless alliance with any Nigerian group. Let all man deal with their own demons independently.

When we get our Biafra, with a well defined national boundary put between us and these people, such that they can never harm us again without being made to pay back in equal terms, we can associate with them on issues of mutual interest.

But as far as Nigeria is concerned. All man must carry their own cross.

There is and will not be any brotherhood between Ndiigbo and Yorubas. Not in this planet. Events of 1966-70 sealed the rules of Igbo engagement with Yoruba and indeed all parts of Nigeria.

Yorubas are not even neighbours to Ndiigbo, the Edo are natural buffer between us and Yorubas.

It is our utmost belief that both Yorubas and Ndiigbo are more than capable of handling our individual problems in Nigeria, independent of each other.

Perhaps when Biafra becomes an independent nation, and Yorubas hopefully agree to give up Kwara and Kogi to Arewa and form Odua republic in SW.
Maybe then, Ndiigbo can liaise with Yorubas in areas of mutual interest.

Other than that, any Igbo speaking of any form of alliance between us and Yorubas needs a brain surgery.

Make all man carry him own cross abeg.

Choosing SEners for this particular training program is also dependent on business location. His business is located in SE and he has to take care of SE first and foremost. Charity must begin at home. Igbos has been accused of developing other people land while neglecting Igbo land. Current Igbo generation is on a mission to change that. We are giving priority to development of Alaigbo ahead of elsewhere and the best way to develop a place is by human resources development.

Our greatest assets as Igbos is our can-do spirit. I'm happy that the inherent proclivity towards technological advancement we had a glimpse of during the Biafran era is reemerging.

Innoson is a brand I'm so happy with and I'm praying it will last for generations.

This partnership and the company's manufacture of certain parts while equally buying from other companies in Nnewi is the similar approach Asian Tigers used to become technology giants.

Igbos are a blessed race and we will take our pivotal role in Africa going forward.

Sadly all it takes is one Nigerian government policy by an Igbophobic Nigerian government from West West, North North or South South, and Innoson years of hardwork will be undone in minute.

This is why independence from Nigeria, or atleast a form of temporary autonomy from the FG, is a necessity for Igbo renaissance.

Damn. What an insult. These Northerners are crazy. Only South West will use their own hands to divide this country.

Taa! SW can't divide Nada! They haven't been able to reclaim Kwara and Kogi West from Arewa, but they want to deceive themselves that they hold the power to divide Nigeria. Funny people.

It is practically a delusion of grandeur to think the division of Nigeria lies on SW hands.

Newsflash, it doesn't.

If SW do anyhow, the North will descend on them and finish them off.
This time around there would be no stupid Nzeogwu to allow SW wriggle free and reunite with the North on top of Igbo blood.

Ndiigbo will just wait for the North to be done with you, then we tackle a weakened North thereafter, knowing that SW will no longer be a threat. cool
We are just hoping SW put up a good fight against the North, that way we can get a weakened North to deal with. But from what I'm seeing so far, it looks like SW will just roll over.

Calabar is considered as the first capital of Nigeria because it served as the first capital of the Southern Protectorate, the Oil River Protectorate, and Niger Coast Protectorate. This was until the late nineteenth century, when the administrative centre of the Southern protectorate was moved to Lagos in 1906.

It was never a capital of Nigeria.

Until 1914 there was no Nigeria.

Calabar was the capital of Southern protectorate before it was merged to Lagos colony and protectorate in 1906 to form protectorate and colony of Southern Nigeria with capital in Lagos.

Nigeria was formed in 1914 with its capital in Lagos.
Get your facts right.

Calabar was never the capital of Nigeria.
Calabar was the capital of Protectorate of Southern Nigeria which translates to today SS, SE and Owo division of Ondo.

Lagos was the capital of Lagos colony and protectorate which translates to modern SW minus Owo division.

In 1906, Sir Egerton amalgamated Southern Protectorate with Lagos to form Colony and protectorate of Southern Nigeria.
The capital of Southern Nigeria was then shifted from Calabar to Lagos.

This set the stage for Lagos to be the capital of Nigeria in 1914 when Lord Lugard amalgamated Southern Nigeria with Northern Nigeria.

By 1938 when Bernard Burdillion divided Nigeria into three regions of North, West and East, Enugu by virtue of its coal resources had become a more important city to the colonials than Calabar and hence became the capital of the East.

So OP you are wrong. Calabar at no point in time was the capital of a United Nigeria. It was displaced by Lagos as the capital of Southern Nigeria in 1906.

Let's look at it this way..
If the Sarduana finished with the west, and having rigged the lethargic NCNC out sort of, who was next? Zik and the Igbos. It's very pedestrian to analyze tht coup as simply an event unleashed to stop the carnage in the west! Before the mayhem there, Igbos have been killed in several massacres up north. Sarduana has made documented anti igbo rhetorics and the alliance between the NPC and NCNC was already crumbling fast because of his wayward ambitions and Azikiwes obstinacy..

Allowing Saraduna to FINISH off the south west was the right way to go, since it was obvious we couldn't form alliance with them because of irreconcilable differences. It would have taken the SW out of the picture during the war and earned us more international support.

This is also the same approach we MUST take in herdsmen issue. We guard our home turf and maintain golden silence on events happening in SW and all non Igbo parts of Nigeria. If Fulanis prevail there, good outcome, it would mean less opponent to gang up against us and would give more weight to our international herdsman attacks agenda. If the SW or any other part of Nigeria wins, good and good, it would ensure the Fulanis don't get strong enough.

The advantage of allowing Saraduna finish up West was that it would have been a long protracted battle between both of them, leaving the winner weakened and easier for us to mop up later.

Nzeogwu was a fool for getting Ndiigbo entangled in that mess. The Yorubas were never going to go down without putting up a fight, which would leave the North weakened and made our Biafra push easier.

The problem with that coup was not Nzeogwu! That coup needed to happen! Lack of action shouldn't be an alternative and the fact was that after waiting for a full year to call the so-called winning parties to form a government, Azikiwe has practically played his last card at a peaceful resolution of the ensuing conflict! The problem was with ifeajuna and his disjointed prosecution of the coup down south and Ironsis alarming mishandling of the aftermath. The coup happened! It failed but an Igbo was still in charge! What did he do next? He started to bend backwards by employing northern officers as his guards! Did Gowon do that? Did Murtala do that? You have to consolidate with trusted hands!

Problem with Nzeogwu coup was that it wasn't supposed to happen at all. The North had SW in a choke hold. Neither the North nor SW are our friends. Both are potential enemies. The right action was to allow their fight get to logical conclusion and mop up any one of them that emerged from that showdown, because they would have become weakened in the process.

Its akin to watching your two potential enemies fight, but rather than watch from afar and train to deal with the winner of the fight. You foolishly got yourself involved in the fight and became accused of being partial in separating the fight by both of them, who then used you to find a middle ground and reconcile with each other.
It was a stupid move by Nzeogwu and co. Of course, Ironsi folly made it worse. But it was Nzeogwu that set things in motion.

As far as I'm concerned, if there was anything wrong with Nzeogwus adventures that evening, it was his unwillingness to extend maximum violence to any unit that disagreed with his command that night! The desperate situation then demands that.. Revolutions are never tea parties! It was an operational exigency that was broadsided by his comrades in Lagos! They paid dearly for that..You want to see how to hyjack power and consolidate ruthlessly thereafter, read about how the northern officers eliminated every opposition after their July coup! I mean as an Igbo, I'm at the receiving end, but you have to give it to them on that score; they never prevaricated at the most important moments! With the benefit of hindsight, if the likes of Abacha, Buhari and Babangida were all given the Sarduana treatment, you don't think Nigeria would have been a better place today..? Was that not what Jerry Rawlings did in Ghana?

Everything was wrong with Nzeogwu intervention and here they are:

1. He stupidly assumed there was a one Nigeria

2. The above meant he couldn't identify the West and North as natural and potential enemies to Ndiigbo

3. What was happening to the West was none of Ndiigbo concern as there is no difference between North and South west. They are just two sides of same coin from an Igbo perspective.

4. Ndiigbo were premiers of two out of four of Nigeria, we were more than capable of handling whatever the North could have thrown at us after they were done with SW. This would also have meant that SW, especially Awolowo would be out of the picture. Increasing our chances against the North in the final showdown.

5. He should have known that he couldn't control how the coup would pan out once he set it in motion. In life, if anything can go wrong ,then it will most likely go wrong

Lessons to be learnt from Nzeogwu is that whenever there is a national issue, Ndiigbo should watch from afar and allow our would be enemies finish off each other, then we tackle who ever emerges victorious among them.
That way we wouldn't suffer a gang up again.
The MNK and IPOB nearly succeeded in stupidly reenacting Nzeogwu folly during the EndSARS saga, and the SW media nearly succeeded in setting Ndiigbo up again for massacre, if not for the gift of social media Ndiigbo now have at our disposal. We might not be that lucky in the future, hence why we must snuff out and silence any Igbo trying to re enact Nzeogwu folly again.
Those who don't learn from their history will repeat it again.

Nzeogwu might be a hero to some people, but he is no hero to me. He was a man lacking in foresight and rational analytical mindset. He was a disaster to Ndiigbo.

Nzeogwu NEVER committed any "atrocities"!
It will be nice if you will humbly retract the statement!
Nzeogwu as the Chief of military intelligence unit became aware of the Sarduanas/Balewa/Akintola schemes that were ultimately going to lead to massacres as Buhari/Tinubu politics is doing today, and responsibly unleashed a chain of actions to neutralize the evil culprits! He did well! Irrespective of what later days revisionists would like us to believe! Ironsi took over afterwards and bungled the whole thing otherwise the country was getting out of the woods with that surgical military action.. Nzeogwu was a vintage fearless patriot , who should be celebrated and not villified! Please, kindly take note of these facts...

Nzeogwu was foolish and gave Igbophobic entities in Nigeria the window of opportunity that had been craving to hammer Ndiigbo.

He set the ball rolling, Ironsi complicated issues, and Ojukwu was left with a mission impossible to deal with.
But it was he(Nzeogwu) who started it all. It was stupid of Nzeogwu to want to interfer with what was happening in Western region, he was Igbo and it was none of his business.

Nigerians are still as Igbophobic as yesterday, even worst now, which is why I have been shouting from rooftops that Ndiigbo should maintain golden silence on any issue happening in Nigeria that is not directly related to us. I advised we stay off end SARS protest, IPOB and MNK wouldn't listen and we paid the price in Obigbo.
Similarly, we should only mind Herdsmen menace in SE and Proudly Igbo parts of SS( this excludes Ikwerre,Ekpeye ,Ndokwa/Ukwuani and Ogba) . We should not think we have any allies outside Igbo land, we should learn to see non Igbo's in Nigeria for who they are.
We don't want another senseless Nzeogwu who would present Ndiigbo as sacrificial lamb for a national problem. We all saw how Lagos-Ibadan media propaganda machine twisted Lagos SARS protest and Oba palace sacking to anti Igbo rhetorics and indictment of IPOB and MNK, simply because MNK and IPOB stupidly reenacted Nzeogwu foolery again. If not for the power of social media that Ndiigbo now has to counter them, we could be talking of second Igbo progrom starting from Lagos.
This was how they twisted Nzeogwu intents and actions unchallenged , and appealled to innate Igbophobia of Nigerians.

Nzeogwu is not an Igbo hero. He is a bad egg Ndiigbo must watch out for in the future and ensure we subdue before he puts us in harm's way.

Most successful countries on old world (Asia and Europe) are usually ethnically homogeneous countries or at least one in which one ethnic group is an overwhelming majority.
The most they have is maybe 4 different ethnic groups living in confederation or autonomy arrangement.
Germany,Japan and China are few examples.

Ndiigbo in the know, know very well that a Biafra with up to 30 distinct ethnic groups in SS will be nothing short of a disaster. Another tower of Babel destined for failure like Nigeria.

Culture / Re: What If Proto-igboid Speakers Entered Igboland From The South? by pazienza(m): 3:41pm On Feb 16, 2021
Hellraiser77:
The Op's theory is sound logically and based on available evidence i had arrived at the same conclusion after rigorous evidence based research, However it doesn't cover the entirety of the population that is today known as Igbo, it more precisely explains the long forgotten and ancient history of southern Igboland populations.

My position which is similar to yours and which was arrived at through rigorous and extensive examination is this:-

1- What is today know as Igbo people Moved southwards from an area close to the Niger-benue confluence for whatever reason but most likely to seek out new lands as the continued drying of the Sahara area which used to be a very vast lush green area pushed early Sahara human populations southwards, This was very early maybe up to 8000BC.

2-This early proto-igbo southward movement spanned hundreds of years and was very scattered, most went southwards towards today's northern Igboland Others followed a more south Westerly direction into what is today an area covering parts of modern Osun, ekiti, ondo and ondo states later to be Joined by Edoid peoples and the ethnicities that exist under the yoruba umbrella name today, some of them moved again through the direction The OP presented and finally settled at the southern part of the Igboland.

3-This includes southern igboland populations as well as the Ogba, ekpeye, And the ikwerre that being why I don't totally laugh ikwerre out of court when they say their ancestors came from Edo.(the Onitsha and most Igbos west of the Niger river fall into this category too)

4-Some of this proto-igbo people of modern day south western Nigeria was resident in what is today known as ile-ife they called it "Omoku" before some modern day yoruba ancestors arrived and blended the whole gene pool of the area into what it is today(The principal town of the Ogba people of rivers state is still called "Omoku" today"

To put in simpler terms all Igbos originated from a single source around 8000bc around the area where the Niger and Benue rivers met, But arrived from different directions to what is today modern Igboland this influx was also separated by vast expanses of time

Note----- Any Insecure low esteem yoruba person that enters my mention will be dealt with.....I NO GET FILTER O cheesy cheesy

You theory is in tandem with E.A Iduwe account.

Iduwe believed the ancestors of Igbos and Ika were one people. And migrated from a northern direction to South.

I believe that While the Igbos in SE entered South through Benue/Kogi/boundary, the Ika moved West of Kogi , through Ondo, Edo and got to where they are now. They picked up many Yoruba words on their journey from Ondo and this was probably the time the Odianis came along for the ride and ended in their present location.

Some proto Igbos didn't stop at Ika, they migrated down to form the Ukwuani/Ndokwa people and as far as Ekpeye and Ogba. This part of proto Igbo migration is the one OP is putting on the screen, when it is may only be a part of a bigger early migrations.

Some of these people would close the River Niger to form Ogbaru in Anambra and as far as Oguta and parts of Ihiala .

Those Proto Igbo who entered Igboland through Benue and formed the Ezza, Izzi , Ngbo and Ikwo cluster. Those who entered through Northern Cross river formed the Ehugbo and related (Oha-Ozara, Edda, Abiriba clustered.
Some of these people picked up non Igbo Cross riverian elements along the way. Yet their Igbo identity as preserved by their language remains strong.

From here onwards things became mashed up.
Those who entered through the Kogi boundary formed the Nri and Nsukka clusters, from them arose Parties who refused to settle there but continued the migration, moving further down south to form groups in Anambra Central and South all the way to Imo and Abia.

Some of those from the above group crossed the River Niger where they met the Ika party who split off at Kogi and got to Ika via Ondo and Edo states.

This party ensured Ika dialect formation stayed close to those of the Igbos across the River Niger.
The Ika themselves had expanded to form the Aniocha and Oshimili clusters where they were joined by the Igbo party that broke off from Nsukka and Eri/Nri groups at the Kogi boundary.
Some Ika groups had even managed to cross the River Niger as well, as seen in Onitsha mili and few pockets of Umuezechima people in Anambra West LGA.

Summary is that the Igbo history is a story of a people who set off for journey, split up at different times and locations, only for their descendants to find each other in the future, reunited and continued the journey. Moving to and fro the area, forming new alliances and towns , making it very hard to keep track of who came from where.

In that same logical length, you didn't realize that most northerners and middle beltans speak hausa inclusing the non hausa, but if anybidy speaks a language with similarities with igbo, you claim that perosn is igbo...logics

They speak Hausa as second languages and not as first language.
Those of them who had lost their first language to Hausa, we know them and we know the language they spoke in the past.

The Anioma, Ikwerre ,Ogba, etc. All speak Igbo dialects as mother tongue and not as second language.
Let this sink into your brain.
