Politics › N20 Note Is Not Durable, It Tears Easily by pcicero(op): 3:16am On Jan 14, 2008
Nigerians are generally meek and characteristically dour. we always gloss over matters of national importance and end up being short-changed by our leaders because of our apathetic attitude.
I want to suggest that we make the CBN tender an unreserved apology for introducing the odious N20 note into our economy. One of the characteristics of money is its durability. This N20 note is everything but durable. I have lots of respects for Soludo but he obviously failed on this. So, i'll give him the chance to apologise and withdraw the note from circulation with immediate effect.

Mutegi:
Obviously bought to the media frenzy. Contrary to what you think Kibaki is entitled another term according to the constitution. Raila ran a campaign full of hate and now poor people are suffering. Kibaki has been known to be a gentleman in politics but raila has pushed him too far, i guess the gloves are off. Raila calling for the destruction of the economy just tells you he does not have the needs of the Kenyan people at heart.
I'm sincerely curious to understand whose interest you are particular about huh I want to believe that you are on a mission to launder Kibaki's already battered image across Africa. Thank God for the internet, you would not have to go far to disseminate your thoughts and we would not have to travel across Kenya (unlike you) to know the facts. In as much as i think that Raila is also another desperate African Politician, yet i feel Kibaki ought to have treated the whole case with utmost caution bearing in mind how he and some others wrestled power from the erstwhile dictator- Arap Moi.
Which constitution gave him the extension? the one written by the people or his courtiers within the confines of his presidential palace cry
Politics › Imminent Economic Recession In Naija by pcicero(op): 1:52am On Jan 14, 2008
There seem to be an imminent economic recession in our body polity judging by the flurry of activities in the last couple of weeks.
Shell has announced that it would cut jobs, Conoil just laid off some staff and authoritatively many banks have been right/down sizing since November. Sincerely, it must have been a gloomy xmas for some families . Sterling sacked several of its key managers a day to New Year. Forget the NSE and SEC and whatever figure CBN has been reeling out.
The Niger Delta issue has brought the country to knees economically save for excess crude earnings, we would have been feeling the crunch. This is coming at a time when a Secretary to the Federal Govt- Kingibe was telling the National Assembly that it is a taboo for a political office holder not to have retinue of cars and other perks of office at Govt's expense.
the crisis in the oil and gas sector would soon be felt by other critical sectors of our economy and my sincere advice is that govt should eat the humble pie and find a lasting solution to the lingering problem.

No sane person would support the looming genicide in Kenya. It's most unfortunate that our leaders always find it convenient to sing the ethnic jingles when their aspirations are cut short by a cunnier political opponent. Rahila Odinga has been in Govt just like Kibaki for many years. They are both after the spoils of office. Africans are the most unfortunate people on earth. we are victims in the hands of those whom God(?) has placed us in their care.
However i think Kibaki shouldn't get away with this one, not even his bitchy wife should be allowed to continue her stupid demeanours as First Lady.

i was glad that for once that we have a grauduate president. but his recent posturing is making me somewhat uncomfortable, his dictum of "rule of law" in as much as it is a relief from successive executive excesses makes mockery of leadership. his 7 point agenda is yet to be kickstarted. i wonder what he wanted from pple like Kingibe. no hard feeling but i think that man has no business being in his govt from day one.
Anyway i hope he learns the rope quickly lest all the few economic gains we had under obj go down the drain.
