The Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Dr Tunde Ajayi, has disclosed that six of the patients at the Infectious Disease Hospital have recovered.

Ajayi via his twitter handle, @thetundeajai, said the patients would be discharged soon.

“Six of our #COVID19 inpatients have recovered and will be discharged soon. There is something Lagos is doing right. Lagos takes the lead,” he wrote.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, 51 cases were confirmed in the country as of 11:25 pm on March 25.

“Out of the 51 confirmed cases, two have been discharged, while one death has been recorded. Lagos has 32 confirmed cases,” the NCDC wrote on its website.

Also, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, at a briefing on Wednesday said the state was tracing over 2,000 contacts.

The University of Abuja on Friday announced the indefinite suspension of 24 students of the institution arrested during cult initiation in Gwako village along Gwagwalada Road in the Federal Capital Territory.

The students, including seven final year students, were arrested by the police on March 15 after the villagers raised the alarm of a crowd of cultists hiding in a bush.

The suspected cultists arrested with the effort of the community vigilantes had subsequently been taken into police custody.

According to an eyewitness, a total of 46 persons suspected to be students were arrested but about 24 are from the University of Abuja. It was not clear yet where the other suspects school. They were stripped and beaten by the villagers before they were moved away by the police in two vans.

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, on Friday approved the indefinite suspension of the 24 students of the university.

In a release by UNIABUJA’s Head of Information and University Relations, Dr Habib Yakoob, the university said suspicious activities must be promptly reported to the police and other authorities.

Yakoob said, “The vice-chancellor has approved the indefinite suspension of 24 students of the university for alleged involvement in cultism. This is the first batch of the arrested students to be suspended by the university management.

“Out of the 24 suspended students, who cut across various faculties including Science, Arts and Social Science, seven were in 400 level; 10 in 300 level; six in 200 level and one spill-over student.

“The affected students have been directed by the university authorities to hand over all the (school’s) property in their possession and vacate the hostels immediately. The vice-chancellor also directed that the students be made to appear before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.”

The university management maintained that it has zero tolerance for cultism and other related misconduct.

Barcelona have reportedly been offered the chance to sign RB Salzburg forward Erling Haaland following his fine start this season.

19-year-old Haaland, who currently plies his trade with Salzburg in Austria, has been in blistering form so far this year, with the Norwegian bagging a total of 18 goals and five assists in 11 games in all competitions, a superb record.

This tally includes the four goals he’s already scored in the Champions League this year, which have come against Club Brugge and Liverpool.

It seems like Haaland’s form has attracted the attention of some of Europe’s top clubs, with two of these being Real Madrid and Barcelona.

As per Don Balon, both sides sent scouts to watch him in the Champions League against Club Brugge last month, a match in which he bagged a hat-trick, thus we feel their scouts may have been impressed with what they saw.

Following this, it’s also noted that Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, has offered his client’s services to Barca, but not Real, something that suggests the Blaugrana have the edge over their rivals in this transfer chase.

Haaland has been in such good form this year, that we wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up at one of Europe’s top clubs next summer should he managed to keep it up until the end of the season.

And if this report’s anything to go off, it seems like that club could very well be Ernesto Valverde’s Barcelona…

Five people were on Sunday afternoon burnt beyond recognition in a ghastly motor accident that occurred along the Kaduna-Kachia road in Kaduna State.

The accident, which happened in a bush about 56 kilometers away from Kaduna, involved two vehicles.

While one of the vehicles is a Volkswagen car, Green in colour with number plate: JJJ 220 BB, the second car was burnt beyond recognition and the number plate was destroyed.

About three of the passengers were inside the burnt car, which was still smoldering at the time of filing this report.

Another charred body of a passenger was seen beside the burnt car.

Two passengers who were not burnt were seen lying dead, with one of them having broken legs, while some of his teeth had fallen off.

Two military uniforms in a suitcase were seen among the personal effects scattered at the scene, making observers to believe that one of the victims might be a military personnel.

The uniforms were not torn, neither were they burnt.

A man who was seen controlling traffic at the scene of the incident claimed that although he was not there when the accident happened, the driver of the Volkswagen car who sustained severe injuries was brought out alive and rushed to the hospital for medical attention
He also said that several hours after the accident had happened, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force or any security personnel were yet to arrive the scene even though there is a military checkpoint a few kilometers away from the scene of the crash.

He said, “I got to the scene when the accident had happened. It was a head-on collision caused by excessive speeding.

“As you can see, several people died in the accident and some were burnt beyond recognition.

“The driver of one of the vehicles was brought out alive and rushed to the hospital, but he was badly injured.

“A military officer is among the victims, but we are yet to know his identity.

“The two military uniforms you can see, which he was carrying, have no name tags, so we are yet to know who he is.

“It is very sad and unfortunate.”
