CultureRe: How Do You Define A Nigerian? by pelezico: 10:50pm On Jul 21, 2010
Nationality has nothing to do with how one feels or whether they know the culture or whether they speak the language, eat the food, sing native songs, etc etc etc

Nationality is DEFINED by state/sovereign LAW and for most nations these laws are codified under custom/immigration laws

So by law even though i was born in England i am both Nigerian and British because of LAW. Why because the law (which is man made) says so and understood by international law. However i am not British by Race but IGBO. So correctly speaking the RACE one belongs to is taken directly from ones ancestry and in most cases is different from ones nationality.

I cant remember where but in UK immigration law my children are considered to be "more" British than I and enjoy the "rights" (rights=privileges since they can be altered by Government) as the indigenous British however though i was born here i do not enjoy the same rights because my parents where born in Nigeria. I'm quite sure of this but cant remember where in UK law where this is said. I'm quite sure this applies to the US also.

SO correctly speaking RACE speaks of ancestry and is often NOT the same as ones NATIONALITY

NATIONALITY is defined by law. RACE is defined by HISTORY

soreola:
I believe that marriage is definitely not old-fashion, the western world has just made seem as though it is, I mean about 8 years ago when I was leaving nija, I had never heard of the word DIVORCE and never knew that it was possible for a marriage to be broken up, but I got to the west, my innocence was totally erased, I mean what is the point of getting married if it's almost certain that one is gonna get a divorce,  In the U.S. about 1/2 of marriages will end in a divorce and 1/3 in Canada,  I think one of the main causes is that people are not willing to compromise and share themselves with their spouse, readin thru parts of this discussion I can see that some people have the right idea, truth is there are a lot of causes, marriage is a lot of work and is not meant for the faint,  It's kinda sad that we copying the west when we don't fully understand their reasoning,  We are so much smarter than that, I think we should stick to our own beliefs,  Life in the west is not as it appears, it's a lonely world out here, believe me,
The stats of those who are truly Saved (Born-Again who's lives are scripturally based) is FAR better than the unsaved - stats taken from the US show that 1 in 1100 couples who go to a BIBLICALLY BASED church regularly with their families, who READ the Bible and who participate in church missions ie outreach etc etc, divorce -
FamilyRe: Is Marriage Now Old-fashioned? by pelezico: 1:19pm On Jul 19, 2010
Hi Peeps

i'm a Man and thought i'd let you know some facts here - the separation of co-habiting couples  is still much higher here in the West than those who marry. Also marriage between couples who did not have sexual intimacy before they got married increases the likelihood that they will not divorce compared to couples who did have sexual intimacy regularly before marriage.

However regardless of what we can deduce from various statistics Marriage is Gods institution and not mans.  Marriage is between One man and One woman so "What God has put together let no man put asunder"

Marriage is not the problem but the problem lies with those who get married - so rather than blame God (since He institutionalised marriage and commands that "Though should not commit adultery") look no further than We rather than Him.

Marriage simply challenges a persons morale integrity and there maturity - marriage is not for the immature but for those who recognise there need to change him/herself because marriage is really about the willingness to SERVE and God has created men to lead the way in that respect.

Married to a wonderful wife with two wonderful children
FamilyRe: Must I Wear Our Wedding Ring? by pelezico: 5:25pm On Jul 07, 2010
Hey like a poster already said if you dont like wearing it cause you feel trapped   shocked then first consider whether you are ready to get married

A ring denotes a covenant relationship and it is used to show people that you are hitched

Marriage is a serious affair and should not be taken lightly - once such reservations are dealt with correctly and maturely marriage will be a blessing indeed as you both give of one another 100%
SportsRe: President Goodluck Jonathan Suspends Nigerian Football National Team by pelezico: 4:33pm On Jun 30, 2010
Is there any truth to this - the last thing we need is further government intervention - cant they see that when they get involved in any thing outside of law and order its always DISASTROUS

What foolishness - hope this is not the case
PoliticsRe: Islam:you Can Marry 5 Years Old Girl And Wait Till She Is Ripe by pelezico: 1:43pm On Jun 22, 2010
gadogado:
PS. Lets explore the level of teen pregnancy in western societies and compare it to that of predominantly muslim societies. I don't know what exactly it is with your anti-islamic, European loving arses!
Is the issue that the girl is too young?? or the senator is too old for her?  Coz in America, girls start having sex at 13 same as in England. Some become mothers at the age of 15. For me, it'd be better to have that teen securely in a marriage than boinking some guy and getting pregnant out of wed lock. Teen sex is not an Islamic thing, Islam is saying than to allow sexually curious teens to fornicate, better they get married!!!
The west embraces individualism which focuses on whether an individual is mature enough to make their own decisions especially in regards to marriage. Islamic societies embrace family oriented communalism "for lack of a better term" both cultures and approaches have their pros and cons! You cant force us to adopt a western life style!! get it?
A girl of 5 is old enough to decide whether she is fit enough for marriage, whether she is mature enough to have an old man pull down his trousers and insert his penis into her? Really.   A girl of 5-13 is old enough to understand the demands and relational aspects of marriage?  Why are you comparing what we know to be blatantly wrong with the West with this blatantly obvious abomination?

Rather than looking at this pragmatically its always my rule to see this as being either right or wrong.  If this is right then its right for all however if this is wrong its wrong for all.  Whether she gets pregnant out of wedlock or marries at the age of 5 its STILL WRONG.

Yes no one is forcing you to adopt Western lifestyle one that i am vehemently against but its not about Western this or that but whether your god allah allows this abhorrent behaviour.

Interestingly Mohammed Your prophet sanctioned this because of his marriage to a girl of 6 therefore your god allah sanctions this because nowhere in your koran or hadith is this condemned.  The reason why they allow it today is because they are following in the foot steps of Mohammed. He sanctioned this.

Should'nt these Imams be moral bastions teaching unconverted sinful infidels how to live moral right or don't you have a moral compass by which you judge these things.

This has nothing to do with Lagerback but NIGERIAS inept leadership problems - corruption, political sabotage,  theft at highest degree, BABANDIGA, EX MILITARY TYRANTS LIKE OBJ etc etc

What do we expect ?  Do Nigerians back home take anything seriously?  We are the problem ?  Its simply that the years of MORAL abuse of our fellow Nigerians by government and people in Nigeria has permeated a CURSE thru almost every area of Nigerian life.

We are to blame not Amadu or Lagerback WEEE!!

Bruv - this dont sound right at all - so shes a student? how does she pay her way thru college?

If you want to marry the lady then you should be thinking hard about getting thru your studies first, getting a job and then you'll be in a position to think clearly.

Don't allow "love" to blind you BRO - seriously.  Theres a difference between falling in love and being in love.  The word love is so misused and abused.  Please talk this thru with her - if her attitude right then you know that you got something going there but if she complains, throws a fit or gos silent - then that should set alarm bells ringing.

So chill and dont be pressured

I had this dream that nigeria played england and were winning 4 - 0 then england came back 4-3 with the usual nigeria heart attack football - they won but just

tongue

Anyway regarding this came i think if nigeria play a defence with shittu yobo and taiwo then i see us conceding goals - we ought not to play with all three -

I see nigeria doing well in this game and dont think nigeria should be looking at this game as the must win - they ought to concentrate TOTALLY on the other two because this Argentina might prove to be the BLIND EYE - what im saying is that we should NOT underestimate the other two
SportsRe: Nigeria Vs North Korea Friendly On June 6, 2010: 3 - 1 by pelezico: 5:25pm On Jun 06, 2010
The good was Haruna and Chidi. Chidi needs to keep it simple when opposition are attacking.  Midfield was good but must be better -

Forwards must be mobile - not sure whether Yakubu is the main problem here in that if he were more mobile he could help to command that area and get players to make great runs

Haruna was very good - lovely player - however it looks like players were relying on him to much - thing is his young and might commit many fouls when the pressures own - he needs a cooler head - id have him play as an attacking midfielder but he holds so well so really difficult to read his role

Chidi looked good going forward - dummies here and there that created space - hope to see all his tricks on those areas - he creates space for the team in tight areas

Etuhu should concentrate as a holding midfield player and needs to be aware whats going on around him

Other issue is when nigeria is in forward position players need to support the player who is atacking on flanks rather than a GIVE and GO  ball - very important because it shows we know how to attack and numbers are imporatnat as players make diags, create spaceto thread balls et etc

Also Nigeria look a little silly when they hunt in packs - that needs work on

hmmmm
SportsRe: Nigeria Vs North Korea Friendly On June 6, 2010: 3 - 1 by pelezico: 5:03pm On Jun 06, 2010
Same old Eagles - we needed you blood like Anichebe but we get zimmer frame Kanu

They played OK in the first half - saw something to give hope but they can't keep it up with flowing football, forwards making runs and defenders like Taiwo defending - ok we just scored a third but North Korea are not very good - perhaps the whooping boys of their group

Nigeria could be the whooping boys too - depends on whether they can correct mistakes - but Taiwo is clearly going to get BUSTED on that left - he's goto be dropped

ProgrammingRe: Difference Between A Programmer And A Web Developer? by pelezico: 10:48am On Jun 02, 2010
There are quite a few differences between the two however its all to do with the tools they use for their trade and the platform they are comfortable on.

A programmer and web developer ordinarily come from the same disciplines - they understand the basic and also more advanced concepts of programming like the use of OO and the use of threading etc etc.  However in todays world of development tools and FRAMEWORKS are your best friend - for instance a web developer would quite happily use a middle ware framework tool and api set like Spring or Hibernate - for faster and more consistent web developing - obviously an understanding of the APIs that are exposed to the developer and how they fit together is necessary - ie web server, application server (servlets, jsps, ejbs etc etc etc ), database -

A web developer is a programmer though but for argument sake and simplicity a programmer develops the tools that a web programmer uses - web server, application server, database, java complier, OS kernel, AI logic etc etc.   A programmer more often than not will write his programs at a lower and abstract level than a web developer though a web developer (especially if they know java, .net rather than scripting languages) can quite easily migrate to using languages like C or C++

Web and non web developing are worlds apart because of the frameworks and tools used to homogenise his environment for consistent and maintainable code  - and companies in the UK are trying to create environments were standards of coding are used consistently obviously with flexibility in mind

This was written more from a sysadmin (UNIX, Linux, Windows) and infrastructure build and maintainer perspective than a programmer perspective
