In my own bit, just keep up with what you do well, continues tune up your skills, when you meet more right customers you will have a different perspective. Besides there are too many scams so far, web development is just gradually getting appreciated in Nigeria. Many Nigerians, especially older generations don't highly believe in online functions unless the enlightened ones and when they have no choice. Your market is just beginning to grow, continues to skill up. Good luck.

Business / ABC Orjiako: A Medical Doctor With Oily Fingers by Pelicanmedia: 12:15pm On Sep 13, 2021
Ambrose Bryant Chukwueloka Orjiako, a business titan of no mean height, is fondly called ABC. In both the upstream and the downstream sectors of Nigeria’s petroleum industry, he has his fingers all over. He provides leadership and direction as Chairman and board member of some blue chip companies.

Orjiako who was born on October 1, 1960, in Cross River State, to the family of Chief Daniel Obiesie and Rebecca Orjiako of Umuchima, in Uli Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, is the Chairman and co-founder of SEPLAT, a leading Nigerian oil and gas company listed on the London and Nigerian Stock Exchanges with a strategic focus on the Niger Delta region.

After obtaining an M.B.B.Ch. degree in 1985 from the College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar (UniCal), he trained as a general surgeon at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos. He, however, received his early education at Sacred Heart Primary School, Calabar, Holy Cross Primary School, Uli and Uli High School, Uli between 1972 and 1978.

After his secondary school education in his native Uli community, he advanced to the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu in 1978-1979, from there he moved to study medicine at UniCal in 1985. ABC started manifesting leadership skills during his days as an undergraduate when he held the position of African Regional Director, International Federation of Medical Students, and thereafter, attended Harvard Business School from 2004-2006.

Career

ABC started as a House Officer at LUTH from 1985 to 1986, and moved to the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, for his NYSC 1986-1987. After, he became a Senior House Officer (General Surgery) at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, 1987-1988, Senior House Officer (Orthopedic and Trauma) at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Lagos, 1991-1993.

Between 1991 and 1993, he was elevated to the position of a Junior Registrar (General Surgery) at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, and later its Senior Registrar (Orthopedic and Trauma Department) from 1993-1996.

You even see people advertise professional website development for N20,000. I wonder how can they acheive that. Domain name and hosting alone will exhaust that 20k, The funny thing is that clients will still price them N15k grin

Webmasters / Why Web Developers Are Suffering In Nigeria by Pelicanmedia: 2:48pm On Sep 12, 2021
Yesterday, one of my friends approached me and was like: ‘Bros, how far? Na you dey chop money o, with this your web design thing.’ and it really got me thinking.

To be frank, Nigerian web design businesses tend to be largely unprofitable, well, at least for start ups.

Yes, I know that there are many Nigerian web design companies, like, well, Anakle, that have fought through the mist of doubts and become thriving businesses, but, on a scale of 1 to 10, Nigerian web design businesses do not do as well as their counterparts in, say, United Kingdom.

Lack of Creativity

Believe this or not, but one of the main reasons why Nigerian web design businesses fail to get off the ground is due to the lack of creativity on the part of the web developers and designers.

I have had the opportunity to go around some websites built by Nigerian web design companies, and what strikes me the most is the lack of creativity. Most Nigerian web design companies (or freelance designers) rely on sites like themeforest to get themes for websites.

While this in itself isn’t bad, but to assert oneself as a web designer, you should be ready to get dirty with UI problems and headaches.

In addition, most Nigerian based web designers seem to not even keep up with latest design trends like responsive design.

Client Financing & Economy

Web design agencies in western countries, like UK, can easily charge clients up to £5,000 for web projects, thats like NGN1.3 million in local currency.

In Nigeria, any web developer who has this kind of payout on a project has probably meet a huge client like say MTN or Glo or someone big.

Its not unheard of for web designers and developers to charge hourly in some countries, but if you try telling your clients in Nigeria that you will be charging them hourly in Nigeria, well, you can kiss that project goodbye. No, for real, try it.

Subpar ‘web designers’ make it hard to charge

I know some people might criticise what I say, but I have seen some people call themselves web designers just because they can register a domain, install WordPress, and install a theme for WordPress.

While, this is pretty much the sum of the workflow of some WordPress designers, there’s still a lot more in-between logic.

Granted, everyone has their methods, I still think, if you cannot grab Notepad and code a less than basic page using HTML, some sort of Javascript and maintain a nice visual appeal, then you are NOT a web designer; quote me.

Generally, when people who can only install WordPress, start calling themselves web designers, then they don’t see the work it actually takes to build a real website from scratch and they start charging clients NGN30,000 for a website. The client doesn’t know better and assumes this is the general price for a website.

Business / An Invitation To The Launch Of Iso 20400 Sustainable Supply Chain And Procuremen by Pelicanmedia: 11:22am On Sep 11, 2021
Dear Colleagues,

AN INVITATION TO THE LAUNCH OF ISO 20400 SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN AND PROCUREMENT SCHOOL IN AFRICA

We are delighted to invite you to the launch of ISO 20400 Sustainable Supply Chain and Procurement School, the first of its kind in Africa. This hybrid (physical and virtual) event is billed for the 14th of September 2021 from 12 noon to 2 pm.Recent studies reveal that most organizations still do not have a good understanding or oversight of their supply chain risk profiles. They do not understand that they are socially and at times legally liable, directly and indirectly for the malpractices of their vendors, suppliers and contractors, in the process of producing their goods, providing their services, constructing, or managing their facilities, etc.

The pandemic has further highlighted the vulnerabilities that businesses and institutions face in their supply chain, despite claims to the contrary on companies’ websites and annual reports. It is in response to this knowledge/practice gap that we seek to launch the ISO 20400 Sustainable Supply Chain Procurement School in Africa. The aim is to build the much-needed capacity on these supply chain and procurement challenges while developing strategic ways of mitigating them.

This will definitely reduce risk exposures for organizations, increase trade and investment and make Sub-Saharan Africa a more favorable destination for foreign investment especially with the present economic uncertainties.

The Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade & Investment His Excellency, Chief Otunba Niyi will be the Chief Launcher, Sir Shaun McCarthy OBE, Chair of Supply Chain Sustainability School United Kingdom will be the Keynote Speaker while the Director General and Chief Executive of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Mallam Farouk A. Salim will be participating as the Guest Speaker as well as other business leaders from across Africa. It is therefore a privilege and an honour to invite you as a key stakeholder to participate at this launch.

We have made provisions for Virtual Participation via this Registration Link: https:///2Wlxd03 which we politely request that you share with your team, interested parties and stakeholders ahead of the event.

We are pleasantly looking forward to your participation at this important pan African event.

Best regards!*

Health / Why You Should Study Critical Care Nursing In Ontario by Pelicanmedia: 9:45am On Sep 06, 2021
Nursing as a profession has a plethora of options for specialization and one of the widely considered of all includes Critical Care Nursing. A nurse with this specialization is responsible for monitoring, assessing, and treating severely ill patients while ensuring they provide moral support to the patient’s family. Choosing this specialization can also get you appointed as an ICU nurse where all the sensitive and intense patients are treated.

Health / Top 5 Reasons To Eat Marijuana Seeds On A Regular Basis by Pelicanmedia: 11:29am On Aug 25, 2021
Marijuana seeds, aka hemp seeds, come from the popular plant called Cannabis sativa plant, but they don’t have a mind-altering effect. Basically, these brown seeds contain a lot of fatty fiber, protein, and fatty acids like omega-6s and omega-3s. Besides, they have antioxidants that help reduce the symptoms of a lot of diseases. As a result, they help improve the health of your joints, skin, and heart. Given below are 5 reasons to eat hemp seeds.

1) Easy-to-Digest Protein

According to nutritional experts, a protein obtained from plants is easy to digest for your body. Many research studies found that people who ate animal protein had lower death rates compared to those who used to eat meat. Statistics tell us that increasing your intake of plant-based protein by 3% can reduce your risk of death by 10%.

Hemp seeds are an ideal source of plant-based protein. Therefore, farmers use cannabis seeds in order to nourish their animals. This is the reason the popularity of protein powder for bodybuilding is on the rise.

2) Good for weight loss and weight gain

If you eat a diet that contains cannabis seeds, you may lose or gain weight. Basically, these seeds contain a lot of vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin E, zinc, iron, calcium, and magnesium. Since they contain protein, you won’t have to eat for a much longer period.

Similarly, they can help you put on weight because of the same nutritional benefits. So, if you need to gain or lose weight, these seeds can be the best choice for you.

3) Omega Fatty Acids

Since our bodies don’t produce omega fatty acids, we have to get them from outside sources. According to some experts, hemp is an ideal source of a lot of omega acids. In other words, they are much better than flaxseeds, walnuts, and chia seeds.

These fatty acids are an ideal choice if you want to get a healthy heart and brain. Actually, these amino acids are a must for protein production.

4) Good for Your Heart
