In any case the ppl of the east cud afford the quality education n those who cudnt were helped by their families,communities n well to do individuals through scholarship schemes.
Thus the igbos were rapidly getting educated to the chagrin of Awolowo,who now decided to introduce the free education to the yorubas ,(who then were not really interested in education )So as to challenge the igbos .

Right now, Lagos is the 7th largest economy in Africa and larger than the economy of at least 42 countries in Africa without the typical oil dependent Nigeria which means Lagos is operating based on a very very diverse economy across the board that it's GDP is inching towards Nigeria's entire GDP.

Lagos's high GDP at the moment is half of what it's going to be starting from 2018 when the ground breaking economic activities surrounding the LFTZ Dangote's largest single refinery in the world, fertilizer, LNG and petrochemicals and 12,000MW plant explodes. The potential industrial and commercial applications and IGR for the Lagos state government looks mind bugling even taxable deductions from hundreds of thousands of jobs to be generated alone before we even get to collateral taxes on goods and services and available educate manpower makes for a great future for Lagos state.



It means if Nigeria today is the largest economy in Africa, then entire economy/GDP of Lagos state inching towards and eventually toppling Nigeria's economy means Lagos state is set to be the largest economy in the whole of Africa.

The implication here is far reaching even beyond Nigeria as a country.
