$84bn from 2002 to 2022.
Let us see what $84bn can do.
$84bn can build 4 Dangote refineries. $84bn can build 85,000MW of electricity. $84bn can build 5800KM of coastal roads.
Yet we spent that money to make fuel cheap.
And even while spending that amount, fuel increased from N30 per litre in 2002 toN185 per litre in 2023. |

pazienza: But Tinubu is not from the North. It's obvious he rigged elections and numbers from the North. The North had a candidate in the election in the person of Atiku. The dynamics are not same with 1979!
Winning Lagos alone was never going to be enough when Shagari easily won the North and parts of SS.
It's Going by your logic that Tinubu couldn't have won the North except via rigging, then it means it was Atiku that won the 2023 election and not even the Agulu fraud. Cos 60% votes in the North is more than 100% votes in the South (especially the SE). So Atiku won the 2023 election. 🤭🙂 |

pazienza: Obi won Abuja and Lagos where the most civilised voters in Nigeria are domiciled and the most cosmopolitan parts of Nigeria.
Tell me exactly how you thought Awolowo won an election where Shagari was representing Arewa, Zik the Igbo and Awolowo the Yorubas. Where would Awolowo have gotten to votes to offset the ones from the North? Tell me how Obi won the 2023 election when he didn't get any significant votes in core Northern States which have the major voting strength. His votes was swallowed in Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi etc. Yes Obi won Lagos, but his margin was infinitesimally small. Less than 10k votes above Tinubu. So how was that going to win him the election? Also, as for the 1979 election, Awolowo won Lagos (the then capital) with over 82% votes. So why will you say he had no path to victory? PS; I hope you're smart enough to understand my last screenshot?

Karlman: Fact is Igbo ancestors were at Ife, yes, same Ile Ife, and I heard it first from the Oni of Ife. What I don't know is if they were the first to settle there, and that is where the government should dig up in earnest search for truth and fact.
And as for those of you jumping up and down over what you know next to nothing about, the present Igbo is not planning to come back to Ife for any reason, in fact it was the Oni himself that was asking Igbos not to forget they moved from Ife.
Let the government set up a committee of enquiry to look into history.
Igbos have been in Ife which the Oni himself spoke about severally that Igbos were once at Ife, and same as benin.
I heard Oni of Ife in a video telling Igbo people that they moved from Ife in the olden days. Government should do a finding rather than dismiss the book entirely just to be politically right.
Going through comments on this threads showed how obviously there little number of learned people on nairaland. No brainstorming, no academic exchange, just blind and ignorant arguments from people who know next to nothing about the topic.
FYI Igbo ancestors were at Ile Ife, go and dig up. The question here is, we're they the first. The Onni was talking about the Ugbo people not the Igbo people. Go and read about the Ugbo people. |

So Ibos actually believe PitObi won the election in 2023? How would that be possible? Where will Obi get the votes to offset the Northern numbers? Madness. |

Governance worldwide is a continuum, so there's no need to relentlessly vilify the past governments. Just FIX the current issues for the good of all and take the glory. That's what real governance is all about. Period. Who is villifying the past? |

Na APC caused the wahala, na APC fix it...
Yes, Tinubu did well clearing it, but the praise singing is enough.
My own be say, let's begin to see the positives on microeconomics....I want the price of FUFU to return to 2 for NGN 50. As simple as this! We entered this forex logjam cos Buhari gave Nigerians what they wanted- A fantasy. Cheap dollar, cheap fuel and infrastructures all at the same time. Tinubu has opened all our eyes to reality. |

nairalanda1: This isn't a milestone, old man.
A milestone is sensible polices like removing all price controls and raising tax to gdp
What has happened here is that we ran out of money to subsidize dollars, so the next sensible step was to remove subsides on dollars...and that meant that forex could flow again. What does the tax bill mean to you? |

completeskills: This news was posted yesterday..it looks like we will continue reading this till the end of the year. This was meant to happen once naira was floated because no more hoarding of dollars and the demand for it was reduced due to the high exchange rate. lt was achieved at the expense of the shrinked economy. I am sure many of these airlines witnessed reduced patronage due to the naira floating. It is however a good thing that IATA does not rank Nigeria as defaulting nation but has this improved the life of the common man? I know I will be termed a hater for this but someone should explain how this has improved living conditions for Nigerians because that's what really matters. This your tears is very delicious. |

nairalanda1: You guys, for once drop this apc, pdp, obi, tinubu and atiku, and GEJ and buhari, and all that political stuff. Me, I don't have a side in this politics, and think our politicans are evil...all of them
But the honest fact is, for decades, we have been subsidising power in this country. FOR DECADES. Also, since the late 1970's, governments have been connecting people to the grid, and they don't bother about whether they can pay for power on a monthly basis or not.
Result...a power sector that has been chronically and is still chronically short on cash, and that has not been able to pay for upgrades for centuries.
So, why are tinubu and company scared to rectify that and remove subsides? Because they don't want to be voted out? It is the same nonsense GEJ did when he privatised power, but left subsides and price controls in place....leading to the point where three power discos had to be taken over by banks and one other by the government itself.
At the end , it may be harsh, but it would eventually allow investment needed to get us to at least 34000 mw, which is what we need right now to give everyone on the grid 24 hour a day POWER.
Let's dump this oppressor thing. I am not here to argue or to do propaganda for any entity. If business, including the power business, must flourish here, we got to free it to make enough profits to pay for improvements itself.
And improvements cost money. Because no joker is going to do anything for free. I don't even know what you are crying about. Tinubu's government has removed electricity subsidy for Band A users. Every consumers who is getting at least 20 hours of light per day will be migrated to Band A and the subsidy government is paying on his behalf will cease. Isn't that a better option than just ending the subsidy for everyone? |

ROTTWEILER007: I know even understand this headline sef. If na good thing, we thank God. But if na bad thing, holy Ghost fire!!!! Before (in 2023) the foreign airlines couldn't send back their profits (which is in dollars) to their home countries because the CBN didn't have dollars to give them. Today (2025), the CBN has been able to give the airlines their dollars for repatriation back to their home countries. As at 2023, Nigeria was the biggest debtor to airlines. Today, Nigeria is no longer a debtor. |

I could recall airlines having un- repatriated sums as much as $7b before he took over. No. It was accumulated FOREX backlogs (which included the ones for airlines) that added up to $7bn. Airline backlog itself was about $800m. Tinubu has cleared everything now. |

ElSudani: Our foreign exchange system was completely rigged against ordinary Nigerians. A few powerful people and the banks were the only people benefiting from it. That also is gone. Nigerians should not be deceived into voting against Tinubu. A mad person is described as one who is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result. Tinubu is bold and he is laying a solid foundation for the future. The worst part is that even powerful men like Abdul Samad Rabiu didn't have access to the dollars then. Then imagine ordinary Nigerians. |
