Copied: WE HOPE OTHER NORMAL SCHOOLS WILL FOLLOW THIS GOOD MOVE OF CRESCENT SCHOOLS 1004 HOUSING ESTATE, VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS 9th June, 2017. The Honourable Minister of Education, The Federal Ministry of Education, Federal Secretariat Complex, Shehu Shagari Way, Central Area, P.M.B. 146, Garki, Abuja. Dear Sir, OUR COMPLAINT AND OBSERVATIONS ON THE IMMORAL CONTENTS IN OUR CURRICULA We, the Parent-Teacher Association of Crescent College, Victoria Island, Lagos, are constrained to bring to your notice that we have observed that it has become the tradition of the National Examinations Council (NECO) to recommend junior secondary literature textbooks that fall short of moral standards that our nation’s educational system should be promoting. More specifically, the books are nothing but a means of glamorising acts of indecency such as rape, violence, kidnapping, girl defilement and sexualisation of knowledge. The books expose the vulnerable and unsuspecting minds of 10-12 year olds to amorous and deviant practices that can in turn breed rapists, cultists, homosexuals and kidnappers in youngsters. The prevalence of cases of rape among secondary students in recent times cannot be unconnected with the urge to experiment with the experience they have from such books. For example, The Precious Child, by Queen O. Okweshine, gave a vivid description of a young lady’s body as follows: If only I can find a sweet 16 to cool me down. But these eaglets with their fronts and backs fully set. Waaoo, those tender breasts that gyrate in provocating rhythm which seem to say (pushes his chest forward) ‘I swear to God.’ (page 56) In the same vein, another book, ‘The Tears of a Bride’ authored by Oyekunle Oyedeji, an accountant, is another reason to make a responsive and responsible parent feel concerned about the kind of adults schooling is grooming their children to be. The story is centred on two characters, Ajibike and Akofe, who are passionately in love, with Araba, the staff bearer, not allowing them to be. The author throws caution and modesty to the dogs as reflected in the following excerpts: 1. Lights open on Akofe and Ajibike lying criss-cross on the ground with Ajibike’s head on Akofe’s chest and his arms wrapped around her. Akofe’s eyes are closed as he savours the splendour of the moment. His index finger runs through her body, drawing imaginary lines with its tip. Ajibike curiously raises her head from his chest to look into his face, only to discover a wide smile is playing therein. (page 10) 2. Tell them also that the breast of a woman in a man’s mouth tastes better than the best of palm wine. (page 86) 3. Araba comes out of his house bare to the waist and readjusts his wrapper. Romoke cries weakly as she comes out from the house holding her wrapper to her chest to prevent it from falling off her body. Araba has just defiled her. (page 91) Furthermore, the tradition of literary immorality has recently graduated to the level of Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) as observable from the blameable content of its recommended Use of English text for the 2017 UTME, In Dependence. The book is succinctly described by the author, thus: It is the story of two people struggling to find themselves and each other – a story of passion and idealism, courage and betrayal, and the universal desire to fall madly, deep, in love. Nothing short of this enamoured description of love is depicted by the storyline. In fact, our students who sat the current UTME found it morally distasteful, to say the least. OUR REQUESTS In view of the negative effects of books like these on the morals of our children and the family system, the foundation of our society, we, therefore, request as follows: 1. There should be objective content analysis of books meant for learners’ consumption, before they are certified fit for school use by the appropriate organ of the ministry. 2. We request that such books (even as they affect other subjects) are withdrawn from use immediately considering the extent of their incalculable potential damage to the youths now and in future. 3. To forestall a recurrence, we demand that the process that led to the adoption of the books is investigated and whosoever is found culpable is sanctioned appropriately. 4. We implore the Ministry of Education to do everything possible within its powers to put a stop to the use of such books immediately. 5. We implore the Ministry to recommend, henceforth, books that teach values such as honesty, integrity, decency, hard work and selflessness, which seek to promote humanity in our youngsters, in the interest of our nation. In conclusion, we are hopeful that our concerns on the textbooks and some perverted aspects of the curricula would be given a listening ear. As a parent and a role model, we eagerly look forward to your urgent decision and action in addressing these worries. Thank you in anticipation of your favourable response. Yours faithfully, Mrs. Fatima Mahmud-Oyekan Head of Crescent Schools Alhaji Aliyu Gudaji Chairman, Parent-Teacher Association this is a better issue CAN need to take up but no hipocrisy won't let them |

On The CRK Removal Controversy The Nigerian government revised the 9- Year Basic Education Curriculum in 2012 in line with global best practices as in Kenya -7 subject, Tanzania- 8 subject, United States of America -6 subject, Malaysia and Indonesia -9 subject offerings. The curriculum revision process involved identification and grouping of related disciplines such as Christian Religious Studies/ Islamic Studies, Social Studies, Civic Education, and Security Education to create a new composite or cluster of Revised BEC subject called Religion and National Values. Key concepts in the former curricula now form integrating threads for organizing the contents of the new subject into a coherent whole. The Revised BEC comprises ten (10) subjects namely: 1. English Studies, 2. Mathematics, 3. Basic Science and Technology, 4. Religion and National Values, 5. Cultural and Creative Arts 6. Business Studies, 7. Nigerian Languages, 8. Pre-vocational Studies, 9. French, 10. Arabic. As pointed out above, these revisions were made in 2012 when Goodluck Jonathan was the president of Nigeria. It is therefore very surprising that some men of God who are drawn to sensationalism are accusing the Buhari government of being the architects of this revision and accusing same of planning to Islamize Nigeria. How can you accuse a man who became president in 2015 of being responsible for what was designed and implemented in 2012? If only this category of ”men of God” can just stay out of politics and face their calling as preachers, much of the tension that they create with their utterances will be avoided. But even if they must speak, it behooves on them to do their research well before making utterances. Curiously no single Imam cried out when the federal government headed by a supposed Christian did this review. Neither did CAN or any pastor for that matter say anything about it. All of a sudden three years later everyone seems to have woken up from their slumber. This is really very pathetic. From the foregoing, it looks like these men of God seem to believe that it is what students learn at school that predominantly makes them good Christians or not but I beg to differ. The school syllabus for Religious studies only contains bible stories or historical events in the bible. The subject only made us to cram and recite the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer and the golden rule. The real Christians principles that we hold dear today were taught in church and in our homes. The school can never be a substitute to the church and the family. So instead of prying into politics and school curricular these men of God should focus attention on using the church and the family unit as the bedrock of building up children because when it is all said and done, a child is a combination of the training he gets both at school and at home. We cannot control what happens at school but we can control what happens in church and at home. The earlier we start doing more of the training at home and in church the better. Those who want to argue can argue. I don talk my own. Let us stop making the church a part of our victim mentality. Nobody can Islamize Nigeria. - Prince Tony Ogbetere. |

I had a terrible experience with glo today, although people around me do talk about how glo dupe them one way or the other but since I never experienced it before all I do is to laugh over their complain but today it seems my cup got filled up (17-06-2017). it all started with me receiving a message from them telling me if I renew my data plan automatically (I.e loading down before the other expire I will receive 2.5gb instead of 1.6gb, with joy I accept the offer last month and pledge was fulfilled. fast forward to this month I receive the same message with additional message telling me my auto renewal is active, with joy I load another money into my account but I notice I did not receive any renewal message at the time it ought to have renew my data plan so I decide to check my data balance in which I saw 37mb I knew immediately that something is wrong so I check my account balance in which I saw 985 naira instead of 1000naira before leaving the account balance page message start popping in telling me insufficient balance and co without me sending SMS nor make call couple with the fact that I stop browsing over an hour before the time nd still check my balance at exactly 2:04pm. this infuriate me so much that I wish I av some power or there is someone I can report them to because it really saddened my heart. N:B- I have call the customer care to complain all I can get from the guy was that he can't get information on what happen to my account balance and also my auto renewal was cancelled by me something I still confirm 2:04pm chai. this is the state I found my self for using indigenous netwotk

Suraj Tunji Oyewale : MANAGING CHARITY: BETWEEN NIGERIA & SAUDI Three times I had wanted to Facebook about this in the last 9 months (including 3 days ago), three times I had called it off, principally to avoid the risk of showing off what was meant to be a private spiritual journey. But a piece of news in Premium Times this morning has provided the fillip to chest out this. The news: 200 tonnes of date fruits donated by Saudi to Nigerian Muslims via the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs found its way into Nigerian markets (i.e some people cornered it and started selling it). Google "Nigerian government to investigate how Saudi date fruit found its way to Nigerian markets - Premium Times" for full story. Don't want to put link here to maximize exposure of this post. This confirmed my thought, which I actually said out to a couple of fellow Nigerian pilgrims around me, in my 2016 Saudi visit, that if these many free gifts we were being given here, were handled by Nigerians in Nigeria, 70 percent of them will never get to the target and end up in private pockets or some people diverting it to their warehouses/shops for commercial gain. In Saudi, in your 5 hour bus journey from Madina to Makkah, there are at least 2 points your bus will stop and all pilgrims are spoiled with free packed foods, drinks, and other gifts. It was so organised. These gift points are designed like filling stations - your bus just turns in offbthe highway, parks, bus coordinator tells the distributors number of pilgrims in his bus (up to 50 per bus), cartons of gifts dropped into the bus for distribution among pilgrims in transit, and the bus zooms away for the next one. And the buses transport at least 2 million pilgrims at peak (hajj) period. The gifts are rich, and never finish. I told the friend sitting beside me in our bus: if these were Nigeria, half of what's in this pack will not reach us. The people coordinating these activities would be millionaires by now. There are other charitable activities for pilgrims - well organized programme of free foods, drinks and other edibles (sponsored by government and some anonymous rich men) for their guests (pilgrims) on way from mosques (in Makkah in particular, but in Madina too) everyday in at least 3 of the 5 daily prayer times. I always say to myself, a charitable structure of this scale can never be this perfect in Nigeria. Diversion galore by the people in charge. My thought came to past when I read this news from PT today that a fruit gift from Saudi to Nigerian Muslims was diverted for commercial purpose by Nigerians when it reached Nigeria. Not surprised, if Nigerians could loot IDP relief materials, how much more gifts. PS: Date fruit (called dabinu) is a fruit that is grown majorly in the Middle East and highly recommended (but not compulsory) in Islamic tradition to use to break fast. Saudi sends tonnes of it to Nigeria (and other countries) for free disyribution to Muslims during Ramadan fast. Nigerian "consignment" diverted for commercial purpose to the dismay of the donor. See PT news. |

Olabode Sowunmi wrote An Igbo policeman who faced armed robbers in Zenith bank in Owerri (Igbo state) got killed in the process. The Nigerian {Police and the bank allegedly abandoned his family. Now a YORUBA man, through Punch Newspaper (Owned by a Yoruba family) brought the story to the front burner and started GoFundMe for the late cop's family. within 2 days, over $16,000 had been raised and in the list of names of people who donated were Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo and every other tribe and tongue in Nigeria. Ironically, this happened in the middle of so much hate and tribal bigotry ongoing in the country. While we hated, cursed and called each other names, underneath that madness, our humanity rose above hate and bigotry and we came together as one indivisible family in helping the slain policeman's family regardless of their tribe. Nigerians, what is our problem? Doesnt this go to show that we hate for no apparent reason if we could show so much DETRIBALISED love in the middle of hate orgy that we got ourselves immersed in within the same period? We do not hate each other in the right sense of the word but some demonic people are pulling the strings of hate and we have decided to be willing puppets! So sad. Purge yourselves of negative energy. Have a good day. |
