Popular Nigerian singer/songwriter, Oluwabankole Wellington, widely known as Banky W, and beautiful actress Adesua Etomi’s wedding dominated the internet search engine Google this week. Mr. Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Anglophone West Africa, made this known in a dispatch to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Lagos. He said that the Anambra state governorship election also tops the chat of the search engine. “The highly anticipated wedding of Nigeria’s favourite couple, R&B singer, Bankole Wellington and Nollywood actress, Adesua Etomi was held on Sunday. “The couple, who announced their engagement shortly after co-starring in the Wedding Party movie, also held their court wedding on Monday. “The video of the court wedding went viral as soon as it was posted on social media by the happy couple. “Fans and friends have since taken to Google to search for more photos from the couple’s traditional wedding,’’ Kola-Ogunlade said. The Google manager said that Governor Willie Obiano, this week, was declared the winner of the Gubernatorial Election held in Anambra State. He added that in his acceptance speech, Obiano thanked the citizens of Anambra State for voting despite several instances of election manipulation and over-voting cited by the election officers. Kola-Ogunlade said that this led to the cancellation of results in several units. Well-wishers also raced to Google to search for more details about the election results. Also, the reported death of the former Vice President Alex Ekwueme who died in the early hours of Sunday in a London clinic became a trending topic. “The sad news was confirmed by his family in a statement. This followed his family debunking news of his death two weeks earlier. “Fans and well-wishers raced to Google to confirm the sad news,’’ he said. Kola-Ogunlade said that the news of the resignation of the Zimbabwean leader, Robert Mugabe also trended on google. “Mid last-week, in what was referred to as a “bloodless transition”, Mugabe was removed from office and placed under house arrest. “After almost a week of uncertainty, the 93-year old dictator resigned on Tuesday after nearly four decades in power. “His resignation letter was read out at a joint session of the Zimbabwean Parliament in Harare and as the celebration continues in Zimbabwe, Nigerians took to Google to confirm Mugabe’s resignation,’’ he said. Early this week, news broke of Cyntoia Brown, a 29-year-old victim of sex trafficking, who had been sentenced to life in prison in Nashville, Tennessee,’’ the Google manager said. He added that she was sentenced for shooting her abuser after being forced into prostitution at the age of 16. “Brown, who has already served nearly 13 years in prison, will be eligible for parole after serving 51 years behind bars. “This sentence has drawn outrage from celebrities such as Kim Kardashian West and Rihanna, who has begun a social media protest with the Free Cyntoia Brown. “Nigerians raced to Google to read more about Brown’s story, making her name a top trending search term,’’ he said. NAN reports that Google Trends launched in May 2006, allows one to see how popular, search terms and its demography have been over time on Google. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has assured voters in two troubled local government areas of Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo of adequate security during December 2, 2017 local government elections in the state. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, gave the assurance in Uyo on Thursday while reacting to speculations that there would be low turnout of voters in the two councils following unceasing cult killings, politically-related assassinations, kidnappings, among other vices in the areas. Elkana, however, urged Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo residents to go about their daily business without fear, adding that the police have intensified efforts to arrest those behind the recent killings. According to him, the command would not rest on its laurels till peace returns to the two councils that have been identified as flashpoints. “Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo are two local government areas that have been identified by the command as flashpoints even before the present Commissioner of Police assumed duty in the state. So, we have noted these places as areas to which we shall pay more attention during the LG polls. “We have adequate security measures in place for the elections. We are going to deploy over 15,000 personnel to the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State. “And at every polling unit, we will have a minimum of two unarmed policemen. But we will also have armed policemen positioned in strategic locations. Then we will have other sister agencies that will reinforce the police in ensuring that the election is well secured. “Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun and few other flashpoints will have more security measures in place. We are going to push more special forces, the anti-kidnapping team, the anti-cultism team, the mobile policemen to these areas. “So, the police are prepared against those who think that they can disrupt the exercise or disturb anybody,” he said. Elkana, who noted that the recent killings in Ukanafun were isolated cases, solicited the cooperation of people of the area to enable the police arrest the perpetrators. He added that the many town hall meetings the present commissioner of police held with stakeholders of the two local government areas contributed immensely to the peace and tranquility in the areas few months before the recent incidents. He said, “We adopted community policing strategy in tackling the security challenges in the two local government areas apart from the specialised operations like “Operation Purge” that was launched in both local government areas. “The strategy yielded result because we were able to get over 40 suspects arrested from both local government areas through the cooperation of the people. So, we discovered that it is a problem that must be tackled holistically. “Even if we deploy the entire policemen in Akwa Ibom command to both local government areas without the cooperation of the people, we will not achieve much. “What we are saying is that the criminal elements are members of those communities. They have families, they have relatives. Also members of the communities see them, but if they don’t expose them, nobody knows who will be their next victim. “On our part, we have launched manhunt against the criminal elements. And I assure you that we will definitely get them. But police cannot do much without useful information about these criminals.” Source:- http://www.exclusivepp.com.ng/aibom-lg-election-police-assure-voters-adequate-security/ https://i2.wp.com/www.exclusivepp.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/9k-9.jpg?resize=236%2C202 |

The Federal Government has announced that it has concluded plans to re-introduce tolls on major highways across the country. The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), while appearing before the Senate Commitee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency on Thursday, said 38 points had been identified in the first phase of the re-introduction. “Clearly, tolling is coming,” the minister told the lawmakers. While saying that the new toll gates would be situated at the old spots, Fashola stated that tolls would be collected after the roads had been made motorable. He said, “We are not going to ask road users to pay toll on a road that is not good. While the construction (of gates) is going on, we are working on the design. We want to standardise the design so that when we ask people to come and bid for the construction, we can control what they are going to construct. They are going to construct with the materials we have prescribed. “We can also control the price so that nobody is bidding with disparage prices; there will be the floor and the ceiling. Your price will vary according to how many plazas you build and not because you claim to have used ‘foreign’ materials. “The last part we are working on is the software that drives the management, audit and payment of toll. We want to use the development that has taken place between when the old toll plazas were dismantled and now. There were no GSM and payment platforms as of that time as we have cell phones and cards now. We want to make it very easy for people to go to kiosks and buy toll cards and pay tolls. “It will also be easy to audit from any of our offices. We will be able to see what is going on, how many people passed, how many vehicles, and we can settle payments to operators in a very transparent and accountable way.” Members of the committee decried that only N800m had been released to FERMA out of the N25bn voted to the agency in the 2017 budget. They disclosed that there was a plan to move a motion next week to ask the government to release more funds for road maintenance as the Yuletide season was approaching. Fashola however said releases to FERMA were suspended as the agency did not have a board for some time. A Russian man killed his four-year-old son because he had grown tired of looking after him at home while his policewoman wife left for work. Maxim Gorev, 34, and wife Yevgenia, from Nizhny Novogorod, southwest Russia, had been together for 13 years and seemed liked a perfect couple to many. The man was a stay-at home father, caring for their son Artem but had become increasingly frustrated following his wife’s promotion to the rank of detective. He did not wish to become a full-time parent but had been unable to find a steady job himself. Over time, the couple’s arguments became more intense with the woman dividing her time between work and their child. It was after then that Gorev hatched his plan in the hope that his wife would start spending more time with him, Daily Mail UK, reports. Picking the 4-year-old up from kindergarten, he sent her a chilling text message saying: ‘We have gone to die.’ Ignoring her calls, he then locked the child inside his car and connected a hose from the window to the exhaust pipe. When the boy eventually died, he sent his wife, who had not been allowed to leave work to find out what was happening, another message saying: ‘I have saved you from trouble.’ Returning home at the end of her shift, the worried mother found the apartment empty and called colleagues in to investigate. The child’s body was found the following day hidden amongst a pile of boxes near a garage close to their apartment. The husband, who has a criminal record for petty theft, was found hiding at his parents’ flat. exclusivepp.com.ng A unit of Dangote Flour Mills, Dangote Noodles Limited, has sold two production lines to rival pasta maker, De United Foods Industries, for N3.75bn ($12.26m), the company said on Tuesday. De United said it had signed an agreement with Dangote Noodles to buy plants at its Ikorodu and Calabar factories. It will also buy stock worth N383.94m, according to a report by Reuters. The deal comes after Dangote sold a small stake in its cement business to foreign investors in a one-off stock market deal valued at N27bn. Dangote Flour Mills, majority owned by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, had said it wanted to quit the noodles business to focus on flour and pasta production. Nigeria’s noodle market is fiercely competitive and De United, with a market share of around 70 per cent, is seeking to consolidate the sector. Privately-held Dangote Industries Limited, with interests in agriculture, real estate and truck assembly, bought back the flour unit it had sold to South Africa’s Tiger Brand for $1 in 2015 after it posted losses. Shares in Dangote Flour Mills have more than doubled so far this year after rising by 276 per cent last year. The stock price was down by 3.17 per cent on Tuesday at N9.20 naira. Dufil Prima Foods, the parent of De United Foods, is a privately held company set up over two decades ago, which has grown to become the largest pasta maker in West Africa. De United said the transaction had been approved by both companies and the regulators. A banking source close to the deal said that De United would continue to produce noodles under the Dangote brand for two years after the acquisition. In July Dufil Prima Foods said it would raise N40bn in the local debt market to broaden its funding base. The Presidency on Sunday disclosed that the Federal Government received 35 applications for the establishment of modular refineries in the Niger Delta as part of the present administration’s efforts aimed at repositioning the region. The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice-President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on the New Vision for the Niger Delta. Out of the 35 applications, Akande said 13 had reached what he called the Licence to Construct stage. “Two out of these 13 refineries are almost ready for shipment. Consideration for Customs duty waiver and some form of tax holiday are also underway,” he said. Akande also disclosed that the government was working with the Nigerian Sovereign Wealth Fund, the Bank of Industry, AfrExim Bank, and the Nigerian Content Development Management Board to address the issue of lack of financial capacity on the part of the local partners who are expected to come up with a minimum of 15 per cent of cost as counterpart funding. He listed the objectives of establishing modular refineries in the Niger Delta region to include creation of a robust domestic refining sector necessary to meet and exceed the full capacity of national demand, addressing the proliferation of illegal refineries in the Niger Delta and the attendant environmental degradation, and to provide jobs for unemployed youths in the region. He added that N65bn was allocated to the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme in the 2018 Appropriation Bill currently before the National Assembly. Under the scheme, he said 21,615 beneficiaries had been trained, out of which 4,079 had been empowered. He said, “PAP has empowered 4,079 ex-militants through the establishment of businesses such as agriculture (cluster farms). 3,237 ex-militants are in various stages of vocational training and university scholarship programmes. “The Amnesty Office has initiated the training of 10,000 beneficiaries in modern agriculture and established them into 10,000-hectare cluster farms in the nine Niger Delta states. “PAP modern agricultural schemes are projected to create 80,000 new jobs in three years.” Akande recalled that in June 2016, the present administration started the implementation of the 2011 United Nations Environment Programme report on Ogoniland devastated by decades of oil spills. He also recalled that an inter-ministerial committee on Hydrocarbon Pollution Restoration Project under the Ministry of Environment was established. He said the committee had since set up structures for the final take off of the clean-up and the restoration of the region devastated by oil spills. “Eight companies were engaged to conduct Demonstration Clean-up Exercises in the four Local Government Areas of Ogoni land, to enable HYPREP to select the best and most suitable technology for the remediation work. “These demonstrations were recently concluded; the results are being studied by the Governing Council of the Ogoni Clean-up Project. “HYPREP has also trained 15 indigenous Ogoni scientists on environmental assessment remediation. “HYPREP assessed existing water facilities in Ogoni land in line with the UNEP recommendation report that potable water be provided for Ogoni following the pollution of water sources in the region by oil spills. “Health impact assessment study to be done to ascertain whether there is a link between some disease patterns and oil pollution in the affected communities. “Bids have been invited for consultancy on provision of water, health study and environmental remediation,” he added. Nollywood actress Uche Elendu, has opened up on her marriage, career and more. In the interview with The Sun, Uche talked about domestic violence, marriage, infidelity, and more. Read excerpts below; Celebrity marriages are crashing here and there; do you entertain any fear for yours? My dear, crisis in marriage really has nothing to do with the celebrity status. Marriage is an agreement between two matured individuals, and when these same matured individuals feel that they do not have any need to be together for safety of their lives or for peace of mind; then it is their choice. No one knows the battle we fight in our marriages. The pain and hurt we feel, the way we bottle it all up because we are in the limelight and don’t want to be castigated, but people forget that celebrities are human too and have feelings, desires and deserve to be happy. When I hear things like celebrity marriage crash, I wonder why so much attention is paid to it. Really, everyone has his or her cross to bear. A married actress once said almost all married Nollywood actresses are unfaithful, how true is that? That’s the biggest lie from the pit of hell. Everyone should speak for herself. That we are in the limelight and have admirers from the opposite sex doesn’t mean we are sleeping with them. Just like there are married women out there that are enjoying extramarital affairs, so it is obtainable in Nollywood and it is totally a personal decision. There are still many married women that are very faithful in their marriages and have been unjustly accused because of this general insinuation. Would you leave your marriage if your husband cheats on you? (Laughs) I’m sure if your own husband cheats on you, you will know what to do. It’s a personal decision and I don’t need to sing it. How do you handle fame and male fans? I’m naturally a very down to earth person and fame hasn’t changed me a bit. Although, it has restricted me from a lot of things I would love to do. As for male fans, I appreciate them for loving what I do but it remains that way. What has celebrity status deprived you of? Hopping on a bike (okada) when I’m stuck in traffic is one of those things I’ll love to do on Lagos roads. Then I want to walk into Oyingbo market to do my shopping, get fresh foodstuff instead of sending people and they don’t get the real stuff. You know, I want to be as free as air without making headlines or having people stare at you like they are watching a movie. What has been your best moment as an actress? Hmmm… It’s my traditional wedding. The whole village came out to see their goddess, even the king of my village graced the occasion in his full regalia, and the respect and recognition given to me by my state. They graded the roads just for my guests to have good access to my home, and the spark of pride in my father’s eyes, recording the most successful and crowded event till date in my place. It was indeed a great honour. Ever felt like quitting acting? Quitting what? Never! That’s my profession, my career, and my life. Would you mind if any of your daughters join the field? My first daughter is already an actress and has played major roles in three movies. What kind of role would you reject? Nudity in any form Has marriage limited your flexibility in choosing movie roles? No way! My job entails bringing a character to life and I go all out to give it my best. If you have the opportunity to change anything about yourself, what would it be? I love me; the me that I am and the me that I am to become. What’s your take on domestic violence? Domestic violence is about power and control. Though, the term violence has physical connotations, domestic violence or abuse can occur in non-physical ways. When a man refuses to provide for the family, it is domestic abuse. When a woman refuses to carry out her domestic and conjugal obligations in the home, it is also domestic violence, because these things give rise to verbal abuse, sexual abuse and even physical violence. Domestic violence is a total violation of the plan that God had when he joined man and woman together. It’s totally against God’s plan for families. Domestic violence is a far cry from the character of Jesus Christ so it is an abomination to indulge and be a perpetrator of the act. What do you think is the best way to stop or reduce it? To curb domestic violence, women have a great role to play by understanding the kind of men they get married to or get entangled with. They must understand their temperament thereby limiting the use of verbal abuse that will give rise to physical battering. Also, women should know when a man is irresponsible and easily intoxicated and gets physical at every provocation and then walk out of such a demonic relationship or marriage. Men also have a great role to play by understanding the fact that women’s strength lies in their tongue and they don’t mean almost everything they say. In fact, both parties in a marriage have roles to play in stopping domestic violence. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress need to be rejuvenated for Nigeria’s democracy to be strong. Obasanjo, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, made the observation when he received one of the PDP national chairmanship aspirants, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, on Saturday in Abeokuta. The former President said the ruling and opposition parties needed to be strengthened for the country’s democracy to be salient and strong. He said, “I have also said that the two parties that are there, the one in government and the one in opposition, are both wobbling parties. “I still believe that the two wobbling parties can still be made strong,” Obasanjo said. The ex-president re-emphasised that he was no longer interested in partisan politics in Nigeria. He said he left the PDP when he discovered that the party had been destroyed beyond what he could be associated with at that point. Obasanjo said there was no reason the PDP should not have ruled Nigeria for 50 years as believed by some people, but that the party caused its own problem. Ahead of the December 9 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), some key leaders of the party met yesterday to weigh the options on four chairmanship aspirants who have cases with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The leaders, which include some ex-governors, members of the Board of Trustees, ex-ministers, and state chairmen, were concerned that any national chairman with corruption case pending before a court or the anti-graft agency could be distracted from providing vibrant leadership. They were considering whether or not to prevail on delegates to go for “candidates without investigative issues.” They resolved last night to prevail on PDP leaders, governors and delegates to go for a “less controversial figure” like the All Progressives Congress (APC) did when it voted for Chief John Odigie-Oyegun. The aspirants with challenges are ex-Governor Gbenga Daniel; High Chief Raymond Dokpesi; Sen. Rashidi Ladoja and Prince Uche Secondus. Two of the aspirants are presently on trial for alleged stealing of public funds, bribery, fraudulent conversion of public property and false declaration of assets; another was arraigned in connection with $2 billion arms cash from the Office of the National security Adviser while one is still under probe for allegedly receiving 23 choice vehicles from a business associate of ex-Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke. A top source at the session, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent, said: “The party has a dilemma at hand. Four of our good aspirants who can lead the party are having corruption-related cases in court or with EFCC. “As a matter of fact, three of them have been arraigned in court. The fourth leader was detained by EFCC over how oil receipts were diverted to the purchase of 23 vehicles for him. “A business associate of ex-Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, who operates a private upstream oil and gas company, confirmed that the accruable revenue was used to buy the said vehicles. “The fraud was uncovered in the course of going through the Strategic Alliance Agreements (SAAs) with the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC). “We met to weigh the options because all these cases will certainly divert the attention of any of them from the core duties of coordinating the party. “Some of the aspirants dismissed the corruption allegations as non-issues but the party will not be happy to see its chairman either going to jail or remanded in prison. “We felt in politics, we must put all factors into consideration. But the aspirants are determined to take the risk because they have not been convicted.” Responding to a question, the source added: “Our leaders are of the opinion that the reputation of the party is greater than that of any party leader or aspirant. “The alternative is to go for any underdog with less issue. He who comes to equity must do so with clean hands. This is the time for frank talks. It is left for our governors and other organs of the party to buy into this option or not. We know that APC is waiting in the wing for our option.” Meanwhile, one of the aspirants, Prince Uche Secondus (who is a former Deputy National Chairman) yesterday said nobody was out to impose him as the national chairman of PDP. Secondus made the clarifications in a statement through Taiye Garrick from his campaign organisation. He said rather than wait for any group endorsements, he has been “campaigning day and night across the six zones, selling our redemption messages to PDP delegates.” The statement said: “Our attention has been drawn to news reports alleging clandestine moves by some powerful forces to impose Prince Uche Secondus as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. “We want to categorically declare that there is no iota of truth in the reports. Our candidacy depends on endorsement and votes of delegates at the forthcoming national convention. “We want Nigerians and members of the party to note that the position of National Chairman was zoned to the Southern region comprising of three zones. Prince Secondus has every legitimate and legal rights to aspire for the office of National Chairman. “We also want to put on records that since launching his ambition, Prince Secondus has been reaching out to delegates across the 36 states, seeking their votes and presenting his agenda for revival of the party ahead of 2019. “Throughout this period, no member of Board of Trustees has openly endorsed him as they have done for some other candidates. “No state governor has openly endorsed him so far even though some aspirants claimed support of some governors. Where then is the plot to impose Secondus? “Just recently, some members of Board of Trustees openly endorsed some aspirants. The Secondus Campaign Organisation did not raise any eyebrow.” Secondus said he has not been banking on endorsements. The statement added: “Rather than wait for any group endorsements, we have been campaigning day and night across the six zones, selling our redemption messages to PDP delegates. “We urge all aspirants to get ready for the National Convention and stop game of distractions. “The delegates assembled will cast their votes for an aspirant of their choice in the full glare of the public. Nobody can impose any aspirant in a free and fair contest. “We also want to affirm that Prince Secondus remains the most qualified for the chairmanship going by his antecedents before and after the crisis that nearly killed the party. “He is bold and pushful alongside with his great blueprint to return the PDP to power in 2019. “The forthcoming convention is our great opportunity to complete the redemption started at the Port Harcourt mini convention. “We must elect real committed party members into the upcoming National Working Committee. “In this clarion call, we urge delegates to support Prince Secondus, the man of undiluted loyalty, unflinching determination for PDP revival and unparalleled qualification for PDP leadership.” Source:- http://www.exclusivepp.com.ng/chairmanship-pdp-dilemma-aspirants-trial/ https://i2.wp.com/www.exclusivepp.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/uche-secondus-photo1.jpg?w=336 |
Leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria on Friday met with President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed doors, renewing their call for the Federal Government to withdraw the country from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and other international religious bodies. They also asked that Nigeria cancel all treaties it had signed with such religious organisations. Speaking on behalf of the association, the CAN President, Revd. Supo Ayokunle, argued that Nigeria’s continued membership of the religious organisations violated the secular nature of the nation as enshrined in the constitution. He said, “We call on the Executive and Legislative arms of government to withdraw Nigeria from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and from other international religious bodies and treaties Nigeria signed with such religious organisations because it violates the secular state of the nation as enshrined in the constitution of Nigeria and further violates government’s non-partisanship in religious matters as enshrined in the same constitution. “The sanctity of the constitution must be kept for Nigeria to survive as one nation.” While commending the President on the anti-corruption war, Ayokunle urged Buhari to extend the fight against those surrounding him. The clergyman said Buhari should not hesitate to hand over those accused of corruption among his men to relevant security agencies. He said, “We want you to fight corruption without fear or favour, including those around you who may be like the ‘mixed multitude’ who went out of Egypt with the Israelites but were not Israelites. They caused harm along the way. “Therefore, let there be no untouchable. Hand those close to you that may be corrupt over to law enforcement agents as you have done to others for proper prosecution.” The CAN President also called on Buhari to address what he called lopsidedness in appointments made by the present administration for both ethnic and religious balance. He cited an example of the defence apparatus which he claimed was skewed in favour of one tribe. He also said the statistics of appointments recently released by the Presidency showed that there was lopsidedness because while some states had over 30 appointments, others didn’t have more than three. Ayokunle also said CAN found it unacceptable for state governments to be owing workers’ salaries and allowances. He called on the federal and state governments to work together to address the issue as soon as possible to stem the tide of crime and suicide that were increasing nationwide. “We further urge your administration to address the breakdown of infrastructure in the nation such as road construction, provision of uninterrupted power supply and adequate funding of health facilities so as to stop the untimely death of our people and medical tourism abroad,” he added. However, Saturday PUNCH gathered that President Buhari did not give an answer to CAN’s demand for withdrawal of the country from the OIC and other international religious bodies. “The President did not address that particular call at the meeting. But he addressed some other demands made by the Christian leaders,” a source said. When contacted on the telephone, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, told our correspondent that the President addressed almost all the issues raised by the CAN delegation. He, however, said some other issues were not addressed because of time constraint, adding that the President had directed the Federal Executive Council Secretariat to report to him on issues that were not addressed at the meeting. “There was no time to address all issues raised. The secretariat is to report to him,” Shehu said. Similarly, the Senate said it had yet to consider the demand by CAN. The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Aliyu Sabi-Abdullahi, said, “You are just telling me now, I didn’t even know. Right now, we are on an oversight visit to Anambra State. “It is not an issue that the Senate can act on because somebody made a statement and I cannot speak on it on behalf of my colleagues when the Senate has yet to consider the matter.” Meanwhile, Buhari also met with Muslim leaders after doing so with the CAN later on Friday. The Secretary-General, Jama’atul Nasirul Islam, Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, said members of the delegation demanded fairness, good governance and speedy appointments. He said the group also prayed with the President and thanked God for his speedy recovery. Hundreds of commercial motorcyclists in Akure, Ondo State, on Wednesday took to the streets to protest against alleged incessant extortion by men of the Ondo State Police Command. The riders embarked on the protest following an accident caused by some policemen in the area. A witness said, “One of the policemen had stopped a motorcycle rider in order to extort money from him. The motorcyclist attempted to speed off when he fell with his two passengers. The three men sustained serious injuries, which led to the protest.” During the protest, the motorcyclists, most of whom plied the Alagbaka/Oda/Igbatoro route, barricaded the popular Oda Road. They alleged that men of the command attached to the Ala Police Station always stayed on the road to extort money from them. They alleged that the police collected money ranging from N50 to N500. The situation was, however, brought under control following the intervention of some senior police officers from the command. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the police had treated the victims. “We have also taken disciplinary action against the policeman alleged to have caused the accident,” he added. The family of Funmilayo Tejuoso, a former Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, and the Lagos State Government are at dagger’s drawn over the eviction of the family from its residence in the Ikeja area of the state. While Funmilayo’s husband, Kayode Tejuoso, accused the state government of victimisation, the state Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, said the house was not acquired by the family. Funmilayo, a serving four-time lawmaker, was asked to quit the five-bedroomed semi-detached house located on Sasegbon Street, Ikeja GRA, after the report of a panel of inquiry on illegal sale of public assets said the house was illegally acquired. The incumbent Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni, was said to have formally taken over the building on Tuesday. The Clerk of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Sanni Azeez, and the Director of the Lagos State Staff Housing Board, Mr. Dele Oyewunmi, among others, were reported to have given Eshilokun-Sanni keys to the two wings of the semi-detached duplex, which previous deputy speakers in the state had allegedly used before Funmilayo moved in when she was elected as the deputy speaker in 2007. After she was impeached in 2009 from the office of the Deputy Speaker, she had remained in the apartment. Her husband, Kayode, said the house was bought by his family, adding that the eviction was “a sheer political persecution and uncommon vendetta” against his wife. He noted that Funmilayo, who is representing Mushin Constituency I in the state House of Assembly, had travelled out of the country when policemen from the governor’s office stormed the house and evicted residents. Kayode, who spoke with journalists on Wednesday, said the property was acquired under the Federal Government’s Property Monetisation and Redevelopment Policy during the administration of a former Governor of the state, Babatunde Fashola. He said they paid N150m in tranches into the account of the state Ministry of Housing through a firm, Debam Mega Solutions. A letter, dated March 26, 2010 and signed by the then Permanent Secretary of the ministry, P.O. Bamgbose-Martins, indicated that Fashola approved the sale of the property at N200m with a 25 per cent discount. Details of the payments also showed that the firm paid in tranches of N13m, N58m, N29m, N10m, N10m, N8m, N8m, N5m and N9m between February 4, 2010 and May 28, 2015. Kayode said his family was traumatised by the eviction and had been rendered homeless. He said, “During the administration of former Governor Bola Tinubu, the Lagos State Government adopted the Federal Government’s Property Monetisation and Redevelopment Policy by offering several of its property to civil servants occupying same for sale, as well as companies under redevelopment schemes. “This policy was continued by the Babatunde Fashola administration as a result of which several officials benefited. My wife and I were equally afforded the same opportunity of acquiring the property, which we chose to do through Debam Mega Solutions Limited in which we have interest. “At the time the company sought the concession of the former governor, the property housed a dilapidated and abandoned structure. Further to the said application and by the Lagos State Ministry of Housing letter with reference no: MHEST/627, the state government offered to sell the property to the firm at the ultimate agreed purchase price of N150m. “This amount was eventually fully paid to the government on May 28, 2015, thereby concluding the sale of the property from the government to the company.” Kayode further explained that upon the acquisition of the right of occupancy over the property, he and his wife rebuilt it. He said his family had been living in the house peacefully since 2010 until about 11am on Friday, November 3, 2011, when the policemen stormed the building. He said, “The policemen from the Office of the Governor of Lagos State, led by one Mr. D. Abutu, without an order of court, invaded the property, evicted some of the occupants and imprisoned others, who have remained imprisoned since. “The property was sealed since that day with armed police officers stationed within and outside the premises while my daughter and others are inside. She is traumatised. “On Monday, November 6, the policemen took their unprecedented ignominious conduct to horrifying proportions when, acting on the specific instruction of the Lagos State governor, they broke the doors and walls of the house in a Gestapo style. “They also vandalised the property and harassed the children who are occupying it. Some of our property have been pilfered.” The policemen were still on the ground as of 12pm on Wednesday when our correspondent visited the area. A signpost with an inscription ‘Deputy Speaker’s Official Residence’ was also erected on the frontage of the house. “Contrary to lies being peddled by the state government that the building is the official residence of the Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, the two previous deputy speakers before my wife, Mrs. Funmilayo Tejuoso, were Farouk Oshodi and Toun Adediran, while the two after her were Bola Badmus and Kolawole Taiwo. “None of them ever lived at 3A Sasegbon Street. A former Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Budget, Mrs. Dawodu, handed the place over to us,” he added. The state Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Ayorinde, in a statement on Wednesday, however, said the property was bought by a company and not the couple, adding that payments were not fully made. The statement read in part, “The matter in question does not involve the governor’s office as being erroneously alleged. While a couple has stepped forward to claim ownership of the said property, this is a misdirected claim as the couple did not make any purchase on the property. “The company that made the purported purchase did so in error and is yet to step forward to challenge the cancellation of the purchase since the company – a certain Debam Mega Solutions – which paid only a portion of the offer price, never completed payments on it that would have entitled its full take-over and access to Certificate of Occupancy. “The incomplete payment has since been refunded to the company and the property retrieved so that it can continue to serve as the official quarters of the Deputy Speaker of LAHA.” The statement affirmed that the monetisation policy allowed certain levels of government officials and political appointees to purchase official quarters in their individual capacity on owner-occupier basis, but said the policy did not extend to companies like Debam Maga Solutions. “The names of the two directors of the said company are never Lagos State officials and the media is encouraged to investigate the names of those directors with the Corporate Affairs Commission, whether the company is owned by the Tejuosos or not as claimed by the husband,” it added. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has cautioned the Federal Government against selling profitable oil and gas assets as scrap to fund the 2018 budget. The trade union expressed its support to other models of funding the budget aside from selling the oil and gas assets, and called on the National Assembly to reject the proposal as it had done in the past, because the plan was not in the national interest. Reacting to a report on the plans by the government to sell the oil and gas assets to fund the budget, the National Public Relations Officer, PENGASSAN, Fortune Obi, noted that the idea was rejected by majority of Nigerians when it was first mooted in 2016. Obi described the plan to sell national assets in the oil and gas industry to fund the budget as a way of handing over “our collective commonwealth to a few individuals and further impoverish majority of Nigerians.” He advised that instead of selling the assets, the government should look for other ways of funding the budget such as plugging loopholes and leakages in its finances. Obi stated, “We will not allow the commonwealth of the country to be given away to cronies of the government all in the name of sale of the assets in the industry to fund the budget. “The government should critically evaluate the assets to look at their viability and profitability. Profitable assets such as the NLNG and shares in the upstream oil and gas JV operations that have become a huge revenue earner for the country should be kept by the government to the benefit of the Nigerian majority. “We also advise the government to endeavour to repair assets that are in state of disrepairs but not to sell them as scrap to some opportunists in the cloak of businessmen and short-sighted politicians.” Source:- http://www.exclusivepp.com.ng/2018-budget-pengassan-cautions-oil-gas-assets-sale/ https://i0.wp.com/www.exclusivepp.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Nigerian-crude-oil.jpg?w=400 |

Following report that Alaafin of Oyo’s son Tillaman was assaulted by a Policeman, the singer who sat for an interview with Showtime, narrated what really happened between him and the Police Officer. According to him, the Police Officers who stopped him at a checkpoint along Abraham Adesanya, Lagos-Epe Express-way on Monday night suspecting that he was drunk, didn’t even care if he was Monarch’s son. Here’s what he said; “I’ve had experiences with police but I’ve not had it this bad. At about 12 midnight on Monday, at a police checkpoint along Abraham Adesanya express way, Epe, a policeman asked me to park on the road, at a roundabout, I told him to allow me park properly to prevent being hit by another vehicle or cause traffic jam. As I did so, he kept asking if I wanted to run him over, I told him I couldn’t because I’m friends with the police; he said I was speaking English, and called me a bastard, cocking his gun but I just laughed it off thinking it was the regular police drama,” said the badly-shaken singer who has promised to press charges. “I wasn’t asked for my vehicle particulars or what I do for a living; they just began searching my car! When they saw that my friend was recording, one of them collected her phone and threatened to slap her. I cautioned him for attempting to slap an unarmed lady and he threatened to slap me too if I didn’t shut up. He then cocked his gun and pointed it at my chest threatening to shoot me. At that point I had to reveal my true identity to save my life and to prevent the public from getting a wrong impression about me. I needed to protect my name because anybody could have made video recordings. Even after telling him I’m the Alaafin of Oyo’s son, he still pointed his gun at my chest, saying “God punish you and you papa, who you and your papa be”, he said, saying he could not fathom what brought about the anger in them. “I had done nothing wrong so I was baffled at the way they harassed me. My survival instinct just told me at that point that there might be an accidental discharge. So to protect myself I waved the gun away from my chest with my left hand, he tried to slap me but I dodged it; but before I knew it his colleague grabbed me from behind, squeezed my neck and ripped off my shirt.” According to Tillaman, he suspected one of them was drunk so he had to be smart about saving his life from the drunk and trigger happy police. “While one of them wrestled me from behind, I did what I could to prevent the other from shooting me because his breath reeked of alcohol; he was intoxicated and furious so I couldn’t allow him to continue pointing the gun at me. Eventually, their boss came and quelled the situation after seeing my name, Adeyemi Adetona, Alaafin of Oyo, engraved on my stomach because my shirt was already ripped in pieces. But before then he was dragging me to the station, not until he saw my name. But the drunk policeman said I was lucky because if not for his boss he would have shot me and nothing would happened”. https://www.exclusivepp.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/1-3-300x255-428x250.jpg Source:- http://www.exclusivepp.com.ng/god-punish-alaafin-oyo-papa-papa-policeman-tells-singer-tillaman/ |
Question For The Government Actress Caroline Danjuma is not happy with the way things are going in the country , and have taken to Instagram to react. This is coming after she woke up to a notification on Lekki concession centre’s plan to increase toll gate fare. The Lekki Concession Centre have informed Lagos motorists of their plan to increase the fare on Admiralty toll gate and Lekki-Ikoyi Link bridge toll gate from November 8th 2017. She wrote; “On my out of Lekki this morning I received this notifying me that within 4 days there will be an increment to the toll gate tariff.. The question is what do this Govt take the citizens for.. ATM machines they can collect from at will??.. things are extremely tough in this country for the lay man . Suicidal rate is extremely high .. Drug abuse is now a norm because people are trying to get high to get away from the pain, leading to the deaths of young vibrant youths in the society . I would like to know in details and statistics what the government uses our taxes for . 1. The hard currency rate is still increasing against the Naira.. this alone affects business’s both existing and new .. a lot of companies have gone further to let go of their staff due to the fact they can’t meet up with the expenses , some have even gone as far as closing down . Unemployment is extremely high, kids are out of school , innovation is halted , no capital to run it . 2. If this increment is for the refurbishment of state hospitals , are we going to get free medicals with our NHS number? Last time I went to LUTH I had to buy the doctor literally everything including hand gloves before he could operate on the man I volunteered to help . 3. Is it to rebrand the police force? Will they have better accommodation than the deplorable one they live in now? Will they be well equipped and well trained? Will they be paid a substantial salary which will stop them from collecting bribes on the road? 4. Will all these taxes be used to build rehabs and homes for the homeless? Pls note that NGO’s are operated by individuals n not the Gov. We pay all sorts of taxes in this country with very few accounted for , all the government does is create new ways of taking money from the masses and at their own will, they impose it without a care in the world . With this new tariff, there will be increment in transportation fare, resulting to increase in salary . More buisness will close down , more people will be jobless , more people will be prone to suicide and drug abuse , people can hardly pay for their rent . Please tag the authorities. This is absolutely wrong.. this must NOT be accepted.. I know a lot of you can afford it but pls think of the poor, ur driver, ur nanny , your cook , ur gate man , your staff , your buisness.. don’t ignore this .. we can’t be quiet all the time because some of us can afford it , we must speak out for those who can barely have one meal in a day .. this Govt is not for the people . Enough is enough ..pass this round.. with a peaceful movement and unity we can achieve the best . Are we the ones paying for the 2019 election?” Here are the photos she shared: https://i2.wp.com/stargist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/2-1.png?resize=598%2C498 https://i0.wp.com/www.exclusivepp.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Caroline-Danjuma-1.jpg?w=482 Source:- http://www.exclusivepp.com.ng/caroline-danjuma-question-government-insightful/ |

Apostle Johnson Suleman The Government of Zambia has given a Nigerian pastor, Pastor Augustine Oso Ebosele of Omega Fire Ministries in Lusaka 48 hours notice to leave the country. The country said it decided not to renew the employment permit of the cleric because his conduct has divided the Omega Fire Ministries into two parties. OFM was founded by Apostle Johnson Suleman. Chief Government Spokesperson Kampamba Mulenga made this announcement in Lusaka, the Zambia capital. Ms Mulenga said it was feared that with the Pastor’s continued stay in the country, the acrimony in Omega Fire Ministries could result into the breakdown and law and order. She said Pastor Obesele was given 48 hours to leave the country, in accordance with the Immigration and Deportation Act number 18 of 2010. She added that contrary to speculations, the Government has not closed Omega Fire Ministries and was not against Nigerian Pastors. She added, “Omega Fire Ministries Headquartered in Nigeria is free to send a senior pastor to come and help reconcile the membership in Lusaka. Members of the church should avoid speculation and remain calm as matters are being dealt with the Church authority.” https://i2.wp.com/www.exclusivepp.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/apostle.jpg?w=400 Source:- http://www.exclusivepp.com.ng/apostle-johnson-sulemans-given-48-hours-notice-leave-country/ |
