Now her best friend seemed to think that her isolation was over. The only problem is that Edward, the new prospect, is totally unsuitable. Young, rich, handsome, and debonair, Sindi knew that he could be nothing but a player and she was determined never to be a notch on any man’s bedpost ever again. So her attraction to him had to be ignored and if it refused to be, it had to be squashed. And trusting a man who makes her want to drop all her defences is the last thing she wanted to do.

Edward was satisfied with his life before Sindi came on the scene. He liked women, treated them well, and made no promises. Now this woman makes him want to change all his plans, to make his business second-place to her needs. He wasn’t sure he wanted to do that. After all, what is the difference between one beautiful woman and the next?

Will Sindi and Edward be able to put aside all their differences and take a chance at love? And if they do, will it last seeing as Sindi has not stopped seeing shadows and Edward had never needed to prove himself to a woman?

Literature / Is There An Age Limit To Finding Love? Find Out In Love Me Unconditionally by Petitemandy(f): 1:17pm On May 18, 2020
Deola Banjoko had just ended a five-year-long romance and wasn’t ready to put her heart on the line again. With her trust in men completely broken, she decided to leave London for Nigeria for a little while.

Femi Da Silva had loved and lost. Been there and done that, he was determined that the memories of his late wife were all he wanted to warm his heart and bed forever. A chance meeting with Deola on her flight back to Nigeria was not going to change that.

Moving to Nigeria was a whole slew of culture shock and Deola was not prepared for the intrusion into her affairs by everyone and their grandmother; the lack of privacy, the unprofessionalism, the patriarchy, and most especially, her mother’s meddling. Mama Deola was determined to marry her daughter off before she turned forty and would do anything, anything at all, to achieve her aim.

Set against the background of the beautiful Lagos metropolis, the dog-eat-dog world of PR/Advertising, the ‘I-must-get-married’ syndrome of women past the age of 25, the condescension of the super-rich, and the extravagant owambes featured in top magazines, this novel is super entertaining. You will laugh out loud in many places, and find yourself wanting to read it again. Ola Awonubi outdid herself with this one.

Literature / Wrecked: Female Genital Mutilation And Its Life-long Consequences by Petitemandy(f): 5:08pm On Apr 14, 2020
Most of the time when Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is decried, it is seen as a ‘feminist thing’. The society sees it as no big deal. After all, it does not kill. Many educated and informed people actually believe it to be an effective way to curb promiscuity and instill morals in girls.

What we don’t see, what nobody talks about is the life-long pain and torture this barbaric practice brings. FGM is not just wrong, it is inhumane. Sufferers have to go through life with its ill-effect every day of their lives and many of them cannot even talk about how it affects them.

This is one of the keys points of Wrecked where the main character is a beautiful and accomplished young woman carrying around the pain of FGM. Anaya married into a very successful family in Nigeria but could not run away from her past. But her pain did not stop with her, it affected her husband, her family and everything about her existence.

Here is a blurb of the book:
‘An old woman. A sharp knife. That was all it took to wreck a life. Anaya Owhonda is beautiful, intelligent, provocative, and unattainable. Uninterested in the boring men of Aba, she left for Abuja in search of a husband. And when she won the affections of Jubril Rufai, the most eligible bachelor in town, it seemed the stars are aligned to get her the life of her dreams. But for every action, there must be consequences. And though this consequence took seventeen years to come home to roost, it could spell the destruction of this embattled love affair’.

Health / Lockdown May Be Extended To Other States As Total Infections Rise To 151 by Petitemandy(f): 4:40pm On Apr 01, 2020
With the announcement of twelve new cases as at Wednesday afternoon, it is possible that the Federal Government will extend the lockdown to other states.

By noon of April 1st, 9 new cases of COVID-19 was reported in Osun State, 2 in Edo State, and one in Ekiti State. This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 151.

While Lagos still has the highest number of infections at 82, and the Federal Capital Territory followed with 28 cases, Osun State suddenly took over the third position with the nine new cases bringing it up to 14.

It appears that each day, more and more infections come up even though a lockdown is being enforced in Lagos States and the FCT. Ogun State, which was supposed to go on lockdown with Lagos will start on Friday the 3rd of April.

Even as the government is fighting to bring down the number of infections, it may not be easily attained as long as people refuse to comply 100% with the lockdown and would rather move from place to place.

Do not forget that for each new infection discovered, the number of days needed to attain safety is extended. Flouting the order to stay at home will have consequences for everyone.

If boredom is making you disregard the order, do not forget that Ficool is out to help you and make sure that you are happily occupied as all books in Ficool, including novels, comics, classics and COVID handbooks will be FREE for 30 days! So, relax and read while you stay safe.

It is very difficult to come to terms with staying inside the house when there are many things to do outside. But that is what this COVID-19 pandemic has caused. For the first few days it was difficult to find things to do. I worried constantly about the disease and was having panic attacks.

But then Ficool announced free reading on their platform for 30 days and I was so happy.

So far, I have read Wrecked, a beautiful book from a Nigerian writer about two girls from different backgrounds and how their pasts played into their choices in life; Just for Justice, a short story that answers the question on whether nature or nurture is what determines how we turn out in life; and The Bottled Leopard from the legend Chukwuemeka Ike.

Now, I find it difficult to put my phone away to get some sleep.

Romance / Coping Mechanism For Quarantine: Do You Read Romance Novels? by Petitemandy(f): 5:51pm On Mar 27, 2020
How are you coping with this forced quarantine?

Bored? Listless?

Well, I am coping by reading lots and lots of free novels.

I loved reading romance novels but for a while, I thought that I had outgrown it. I was reading mysteries, thrillers, fantasies, legal thrillers and some speculative fiction.

But these past few days I have found that I needed something to make me happy. I needed happy endings, love that lasts for a lifetime. You know, all those mushy stuff that delight and make me happy, so I started reading romance books again.

Ficool made this easy to do by giving free access to all their books (including all the juicy romance reads) for thirty days.

These are uncertain times and I am determined to be as happy as I can be. Reading takes my mind away from all these sad news and makes me laugh so I am using it to cope.

You should download Ficool on Google Play Store and do the same. Free reading and enjoyment, good news that takes away the blues.

Literature / COVID-19: Take Care Of Your Mental Health, Read Free Books On Ficool by Petitemandy(f): 4:51am On Mar 27, 2020
A visit to the newsfeed of your favourite social media platform will show you nothing but news about the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the whole world with a relentless force akin to that of a heavy-weight champion defending his title.

It is a deluge of sad news: new infections, lack of protective gear for medical workers, top politicians getting slammed, and the masses unable to buy food to stock up because there is poverty in the land.

Right now, the internet, TV, radio, and newspapers are places that can easily suck out your joy and leave you in a well of depression. While it is good to be informed of the happenings around you, you should not forget that allowing yourself to absorb too much of negative news will not only affect your mood and mental health but soon creep into your physical health. Don’t be surprised if lethargy comes in or if your breathing becomes laboured due to panic attacks.

While I strongly believe that the human race will survive COVID-19, I also know that we can keep our sanity while at it. Would you love to travel to different worlds and forget about the coronavirus? Maybe you want to see beautiful islands, visit ancient civilisations, or eavesdrop as an alpha-male declares his undying love to the woman who catches his heart?

You can get to do this, free of charge, on Ficool.

For the next thirty days, all books on Ficool can be read without you paying a cent! This includes the best of romance, mystery, historical, literary, and comic novels.

You get to stay at home, stay in good mental and physical health and enjoy as many books as you want.

You can download Ficool on Google Play Store and start reading immediately. No more buying of coins to access. What’s more, concise and well-prepared handbooks on COVID-19 are available on Ficool. Use this to sensitize family and friends on how to stay safe in this period.

We love you and are committed to your well-being.
