SportsPutin Talks Of 'discrimination' Against Athletes by PetmaxFlame(op): 12:24pm On Jul 28, 2016
Russian President Vladimir Putin says that Russian track and field athletes are victims of "discrimination" that the country is "not going to put up with."

Putin was addressing athletes at the Kremlin before the Russian Olympic team was due to fly out to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics on Thursday, while dozens of the track and field athletes who are not eligible to compete in the Rio Games also attended.

Those barred from competing, Putin says, are victims of "double standards" and a campaign against Russian sports.

Two-time Olympic champion pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva and European hurdles champion Sergei Shubenkov were among those in attendance not eligible for Rio.

SportsEx-german FA Boss Niersbach To Appeal FIFA Ban by PetmaxFlame(op): 12:00pm On Jul 28, 2016
Wolfgang Niersbach, the former president of the German Football Association (DFB), said on Wednesday that he will appeal the one-year ban imposed on him by FIFA's ethics committee.

The 65-year-old was banned on Monday over misconduct surrounding Germany's successful 2006 World Cup bid.

Niersbach resigned from the German FA last November amid accusations the DFB used a slush fund of 10 million Swiss francs (6.7 million euros, $8 million, according to the exchange rate at that time) in 2000 to buy the right to host the tournament.

Niersbach confirmed reports to SID, an AFP subsidiary, that he wants "to lodge an appeal after consultation with my lawyer" and wants to "get written reasons for the judgment if nothing else".

FIFA's ethics committee found Niersbach guilty of failing to report findings about possible unethical conduct and conflicts of interest during the bidding process.

In 2006, the former sports journalist was the vice-president of the 2006 World Cup organising committee and was in charge of media and marketing.

Niersbach says he has "acknowledged and regretted" his mistakes, but described the punishment as "inappropriate and excessive".

Foreign AffairsGhana Parliament Rejects "Change In Election Date" by PetmaxFlame(op): 1:08am On Jul 23, 2016
A report from Accra said on Friday that the Ghana’s parliament failed on Thursday evening to secure the two-third majority needed to change the presidential election date from December 7 to November 7.

An unnamed source in parliament said that the Electoral Commission wanted to bring the vote forward to allow for a second round to be held if necessary and still have time for a smooth transition before January 7, when a new government must be sworn in.

The source said that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) voted against the measure, arguing it would reduce the time available to the commission to organise the election.

Meanwhile, Mike Oquaye, the Legal Secretary National Democratic Congress (NDC), said that the idea for a November 7 election is good and many politicians had worked hard on it.
