Suspected Islamic State fighters killed dozens of civilians in the remote Afghan province of Ghor in revenge for the death of one of their commanders, a provincial official said on Wednesday.

“Afghan police killed a Daesh commander in Ghor province during an operation yesterday but Daesh fighters abducted some 30 civilians from near the provincial capital and shot them all dead in revenge,” said Abdul Hai Khatibi, a spokesman for the governor, using a name commonly given to Islamic State.

The killings followed an attack by militants near Feroz Koh, the provincial capital, on Tuesday.

Ghor, in central-western Afghanistan, has not been known as a major center for Islamic State, which has been concentrated in the eastern state of Nangarhar.

The Nigerian Super Eagles have risen to 60th in the new FIFA /Coca-Cola rankings published on FIFA's website today.

Nigeria, coached by Gernot Rohr, is now the 11th best team in Africa behind Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Ghana, Egypt, Congo DR, Congo, Mali, Cameron. Nigeria, before this latest ranking was 65th in September.

Argentina remains No 1, while Germany, Brazil and Belgium occupy the second, third and fourth position respectively.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has invited President Barack Obama’s half-brother Malik Obama to be his guest at the third and final presidential debate on Wednesday night in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Trump campaign unveiled the candidate’s list of invited guests as he prepared to spar with Hillary Clinton.

Clinton also unveiled her list of guests, including Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman, a former Republican California gubernatorial candidate. Cuban and Whitman are both billionaires and the Clinton campaign is subtly questioning Trump’s claim to being immensely wealthy.

Malik, who is a US citizen, has been an outspoken critic of Clinton and has thrown his support behind the Manhattan billionaire. During an interview with the New York Post, Malik blasted Clinton for her performance as secretary of state, blaming her for the chaos and violence in the Middle East.

He said ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was a good friend of his. “Check out the situation in Libya now,” he said. He also questioned the sincerity of the women who have accused Trump of kissing and groping them.

“I don’t believe them,” Malik said of the women. “Why didn’t they come forward before?” In an interview with the same paper in July, Malik announced he would vote for Trump, saying he likes the candidate and was unhappy with his half-brother’s leadership. He criticised President Obama, saying he has not done much for the American people and his extended family back in Kenya despite high expectations.

Earlier this year, Malik complained that when he last visited the White House, President Obama did not extend to him a “warm and loving” reception. The Kenyan-born Malik has been a darling of right-wing conservative media outlets, which sought to further the "birther" story that claims President Obama was born in Kenya.

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has called on fans to storm Anfield in their club shirts to create the best home atmosphere as they host Manchester United on Monday night.

Liverpool have recorded only two league wins over Manchester United in the last five years.

A defeat for Liverpool will be the first time they have lost three straight home league games to Manchester United since January 2005.

Asides the importance of the game to the club’s season ambition, Klopp is also taking the history serious and understands this is equally important to the fans.

“Apart from the table, it’s a very important game. I know about the history, I like the special stories. The whole world will watch this game, it’s a big honour to be part of it.

Popular comic rapper, Folarin Falana, who is popularly known as Falz da bad guy, is the latest cast member of Nigeria's longest- running hit series, Tinsel.

A son of respected lawyer, Femi Falana, he joins the cast as Kayode Beko-Williams, a young socialite with a heart of gold.

A statement issued by the producers reads, "Known for his skills, the rapper comes into Telema's life at a time when she yearns for such a person.

"The soap is stated to get more exciting with Telema being a hard one to break and as such Kayode's patience is tested on a regular basis.

"I'm excited about this one. It's a serious role," says Falz.

The talented rapper made history early in the year when he won the "Best Actor in a Comedy Movie/Series" award at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. His comic role as Segun in Funke Akindele's TV series Jenifa's Diary earned him the award.

Rwanda has launched a drone delivery network to transport vital blood supplies to far-flung areas of the country.

The project will see unmanned aerial vehicles or drones used to deliver small packages by parachute, bypassing traffic or washed-out roads in a country dubbed the Land of a Thousand Hills.

It was introduced on Friday in Rwanda's Muhanga district, but is expected to expand to the rest of the country by early 2017.

On demand, the drones are expected to make around 150 deliveries of blood to 21 facilities each day, according to Zipline, the company behind the project.

Health professionals can order the emergency packages by text message and deliveries will be made in approximately 30 minutes, officials said.

Speaking at the launch, President Paul Kagame said the use of commercial drones to transport essential medical products ought to be considered a milestone for Rwanda.

The Nigerian Senate has passed the amendment to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s Act #JAMBBill SB. 245 into law.

Part of the amendment is the extension of the validity of JAMB UTME results to 3 years.

Senate President Bukola Saraki, in appreciating his distinguished colleagues for their work towards the passage of the bill commented that the new amendments will indeed bring financial relief to students as well as parents and reduce bottlenecks and corruption in the admission process.

Indications have emerged that the authorities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have stopped issuing visas to Nigerians, following the stabbing of a police officer by a group of six boys.

The incident which took place in Deira, the hub of business in Dubai, resulted in the massive arrest of blacks irrespective of their nationalities.

The officer was said to have died immediately from the injuries he sustained from the incident.

A source who in the region during the incident, warned Nigerians to careful in order to avoid arrest.

"Those of you have relatives in Dubai should be warned. The atmosphere is so hot especially for those without permit," he said.

Colombia president, Juan Manuel Santos has been awarded the 2016 Nobel Peace prize.

Santos was recognized for his efforts to end the 52 years of war with FARC rebels in his country.

Nominated for this years Nobel Peace Prize were Pope Francis, The Syrian White Helmets, German Chancellor Angela Merkel; Congolese gynecologist Doctor Denis Mukwege, Jean Nacatche Banyere, Jeannette Kahindo Bindu - a DRC group working with survivors of sexual violence; Russian activist Svetlana Gannushkina; the people who negotiated the Iranian nuclear deal; whistleblower Edward Snowden; and Greek islanders who work to help refugees when they arrive from perilous journeys across the Mediterranean.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed in an exclusive interview with AFP on Thursday that he backs expanding the World Cup teams to 48, giving “more of a chance to more teams”. Infantino believes “a fundamental point” for an expanded finals would be to have it co-hosted “by several countries”.

He also declared himself “quite happy and confident for the future” of the scandal-tainted world governing body of football. “Nobody is perfect, I am the last to be. But I don’t steal, I don’t profit, I don’t cheat and I don’t want to allow anyone in this organisation to do so,” he said.
Infantino, 46, succeeded the disgraced Sepp Blatter at the head of FIFA, and is determined to stamp his own authority on the job as president and on the sport’s future. He had already suggested that he would be in favour of a 40-team World Cup, up from the current 32.

“We can consider a World Cup of 48 teams which would in fact be a 32-team format because we have seen that the ideal format is 32 teams,” explained Infantino. “The idea would be that the best 16 teams in qualifying would qualify directly for the group phase.”

The United Nations says nearly two million people are in desperate need of water in the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo.

UNICEF said violent air strikes launched on the city on Friday prevented repairs to a damaged pumping station supplying rebel-held districts of the city.

The agency added that in retaliation, a nearby station pumping water to the rest of Aleppo has been switched off.

Fresh strikes were also reported in the city on Saturday, as the Syrian Army pressed on with its push to retake rebel areas.

The latest offensive was launched after a ceasefire collapsed on Monday.

Yahoo says “state-sponsored” hackers stole information from about 500 million users in what appears to be the largest publicly disclosed cyber-breach in history.

The breach included swathes of personal information, including names and emails, as well as “unencrypted security questions and answers”.

The hack took place in 2014 but has only now been made public. The FBI has confirmed it is investigating the claims.

Stolen data includes names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth and encrypted passwords, but not credit card data, Yahoo said. It said the information was “stolen by what we believe is a state-sponsored actor” but did not say which country it held responsible.

News of a possible major attack on the technology firm emerged in August when a hacker known as “Peace” was apparently attempting to sell information on 200 million Yahoo accounts.

On Thursday, Yahoo confirmed the breach was far bigger than first thought. Yahoo is recommending all users should change their passwords if they have not done so since 2014.

In the UK, ISPs Sky and BT issued warnings for customers that they may be affected by the breach as Yahoo provides email services for both ISPs. Sky advised all its customers to change their passwords as Yahoo is behind all Sky.com email accounts.

BT said it was carrying out its own investigation but advised the “minority” of its customers who use Yahoo mail to change their passwords.

Cameroon is organizing group weddings for refugees who fled the Boko Haram conflict in Nigeria and intercommunal violence in the Central African Republic. Hundreds of curious onlookers, friends and family members applaud and dance as one by one, the 60 couples sign their marriage certificates.

Twenty-six-year-old Laminar Junior says he fell in love with his wife, Catherine Lagndia, two years ago when together, they fled the intercommunal violence that had consumed the Central African Republic. She is now pregnant with their first child.

They have settled at the eastern Cameroonian town of Garoua Boulaye. He said that by making their marriage official, he is publicly showing how much he loves his wife and how he intends to remain faithful.

Cameroon is home to 300,000 refugees from the C.A.R. Many say they are still reluctant to return home. A new president was elected in February but insecurity remains.

Some of those getting married were widowed by the violence. For others, this is their first time.

Thirty-six-year-old refugee and father of four Moustapha Saliou said he couldn’t afford a wedding in the C.A.R. But Cameroon provides peace and security, he says, and that has enabled him to start a business that could take care of his wife and himself and so he decided to get married.

The U.N. refugee agency and the Cameroonian government are handling the logistics for the group weddings and covering the cost.

Rode Baba Conde, UNHCR official in Manjo, says being legally married offers protections to women.

He said the U.N. is respecting its commitment to protect people displaced by conflicts and assure their safety. He says they will continue to organize mass marriages for all interested refugee couples wherever they are in Cameroon.

In Cameroon, a marriage certificate means a woman can inherit her husband's property or report him if he abandons her and their children. Cameroon's penal code also criminalizes adultery by women and men and punishes parents who refuse to take care of their children.

So far, over 200 refugee couples have been married.

The next group wedding is planned for refugees in the north who fled Boko Haram violence in Nigeria.

Real Madrid defender, Pepe, has claimed the club was “hated” during Jose Mourinho’s stint as manager.

Mourinho spent three years in charge of the La Liga club between 2010 and 2013, during which he clashed with club captain, Iker Casillas and some other players including Pepe.

“Under Mourinho, people hated us when we got out there,” Pepe told Cadena Ser.

“It lasted three years and thank God it went very quickly. Things changed when [Carlo] Ancelotti came in, you could see people started treating us different again.”

Pepe says he enjoys working with current Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane and has gotten over anything that happened in the past.

“What happened with Mourinho is in the past now,” he said. “I was strong and got over it. I maintained my high level at Madrid.

“Mourinho and Zidane are very different, one could say they are opposites. But it’s not like one is bad and the other is good.

Reports from Syria say the cessation of hostilities that came into effect on Monday appears to be holding.

The deal, brokered by Russia and the US, has been described by the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, as possibly the “last chance to save a united Syria”.

Residents in the troubled northern city of Aleppo said there had been calm in the city.

A monitoring group based in the United Kingdom, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has also confirmed that it appeared to be “quiet” on nearly all fronts.

However, there were reports of sporadic attacks carried out by both government forces and rebels after the ceasefire had come into effect.

The Syrian Army said the truce would be applied throughout Syria for seven days, but that it reserved the right to respond decisively to any violation by armed groups.

Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare has been airlifted to hospital after a car crash on the M4 motorway in London, even though his injuries are said not to be life-threatening.

The 26-year-old injured his thigh and jaw bone in Sunday’s crash and will stay in hospital while he receives treatment.

He was not part of the Palace side which beat Middlesbrough 2-1 on Saturday.

“The club are liaising closely with the hospital on his progress,’’ Palace said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with Pape and his family at this time.’’

The Senegal full-back, who joined the club from French side Lille in January 2015, last played for Palace in the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at Selhurst Park on Aug. 27.

Souare is an important member of the club, having played in the 2016 FA Cup final, which Crystal Palace lost 1-2 against Manchester United after extra time.

US Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, has been treated for pneumonia. This was made known by her doctor after she took ill at a 9/11 ceremony.

Dr Lisa Bardack said that she was diagnosed with pneumonia and given antibiotics. This made her become dehydrated at the New York event.

Video shows her being supported by aides as they put her into her van after she left the ceremony early.

Emerging later on Sunday from her daughter’s home in New York, Mrs Clinton said: “I’m feeling great. It’s a beautiful day in New York.”

AT least 11 people were confirmed dead and more than 192 injured today following an earthquake that hit Kagera and Mwanza regions.

Kagera Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr Augustine Ollomi, confirmed the reports.

The earthquake measured at a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale.

Meanwhile, President John Magufuli has sent condolences to Kagera Regional Commissioner (RC), Retired Major General Salum Mustafa Kijuu, following the death of the residents who died from the impact of the earthquake today in the region.

In a statement issued by the Presidential Directorate of Communication, the president expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, which claimed peo- ple's lives and left behind a number of others who were injured.

The tremor also caused serious damage to property. The president further said that he was joining the families of the deceased, friends and relatives and pray for those who died to rest in peace.

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez says he is good enough to be compared to football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alexis played alongside Messi’s at Barcelona between 2012 and 2014 but left ahead of Luis Enrique’s first season in charge for Arsenal where he has become a firm fan favourite, scoring 30 goals in 68 league appearances for the Gunners.
