Politics / Re: Abuja - The City Beautiful (Pictures) by pgiddy(m): 1:32pm On Apr 16, 2013
Rossikk: No, YOU read and comprehend. Abuja is a purpose built capital city. It is absurd to expect it to "reflect the squalor" of older cities which have been subjected to neglect by various state governments. Stop talking about "our politicians". Talk about YOUR state politicians. The federal govt built Abuja for Nigerians. If the cities in your state are decrepit, it is not the federal govt's fault, but your state govt. Is Uyo not in Nigeria? What about Owerri and Enugu? These are relatively clean, developed cities courtesy of their responsive state administrations. If Benin or Ibadan looks decrepit, don't blame it on "our politicians". Blame it on the politicians and leaders of those states specifically.
and who are the politicians dat made dis cities d way dey are 2dae, are dey not all dose retarded PDp politicians, after wich dey now run back to Abuja after looting dere state to goan build hotels in Abuja, tank God 4 progressive Governors we av now dat are putting in dere best to develop our ancient states.

Sports / The Spectre Of Age Falsification In Nigeria: The Gains And The Losses - Goal.com by pgiddy(m): 7:38am On Apr 08, 2013
Since 1985 when Nigeria won the Fifa organised Kodak U-16 Championship held in China, the spectre of age falsification has tarnished every age grade football competition won by the country and indeed by African teams. The recent statement by Zarko Zecevic concerning former Super Eagles defender, Taribo West is just one in a long line of accusations. Zecevic, former Partizan president said: “He joined us saying he was 28. We only later found out he was 40, but he was still playing well so I don’t regret having him on the team,” Zecevic told the Daily Mail.

"African players feel the need to cheat because they didn’t have early opportunities like the Europeans." - Okocha
Though the cases of Samson Siasia and Andrew Uwe led to Nigeria being banned for two years – no other case has been proven. There have been insinuations from people like Harry Redknapp, who postulated that Nigerian football icon Nwankwo Kanu did not play with his real age like there are so many others.

Obafemi Martins has variously been quizzed about his real age and Emmanuel Emenike sought and got a public apology from a newspaper which said he had falsified his age.

But the question we need to be asking ourselves is – if there is nothing to be gained from the exercise, then it would automatically stop. Unfortunately there are too many things to be gained – even though the gains are short term but Mr. Poverty will continue to dictate that cheating will never go away. James Baldwin famously said: “Everyone who has ever struggled with poverty knows how extremely expensive it is to be poor."

The belief and the truism that football is an escape route from abject poverty continues to ring true in our society with players doing everything and anything to get a contract overseas where the economies are invariably better. The crime, and indeed it is a crime, is not limited to football as there are also claims especially in the civil service and other industries that age falsification has been part of our culture for a very long time.

Former youth international and later African player of the year Victor Ikpeba, was once asked on television if he had reduced his age? Not denying it, his answer was: “I was very young and you can see that I had a long career.” His response left the listener without a conclusion. Though we know that there are no half-truths – it is either true or false.

And like former Nigeria captain Austin Okocha said recently, the phenomenon will continue because African kids start later than their European counterparts. “African players feel the need to cheat because they didn’t have early opportunities like the Europeans," Okocha said.

Though he added that: “Age usually catches up with people in the course of their career,” but it is still a ‘valid’ way out of penury, poverty and a gateway into a better way of life for the footballer and his/her extended family.

The aim of under-age tournaments is to showcase young talented footballers to the world and give them a track to follow. Many players that are now the crème-de-la-crème of world football at one time or the other represented their country in U-17 and U-20 levels. The best example is current World Footballer of the year, Lionel Messi, who shone at the Fifa U-20 World Cup in 2005. He has gone from that tournament to become the best player in the world and has won that diadem four times consecutively. Another recent example is Toni Kroos, who was the best player at the 2007 U-17 World Cup and is now a mainstay of Bayern Munich and the German national team.

Though we can also point to Mikel Obi, who played for Nigeria at the U-17 and U-20 levels and led Nigeria to Africa Cup of Nations glory last February, but Nigerian players who shone at those levels and went on to dominate on the senior level can be counted on the fingers of two hands – they are in the minority.

Philip Osondu readily comes to mind. So much was expected from the best player of the U-17 tournament in Canada in 1987, by a mile, but he never even played for the Super Eagles in a career that petered out like the flame of a match stick.

Lately, we have been asking of the whereabouts of Macaulay Chrisantus who was the highest goal scorer at the Fifa U-17 World Cup in 2007. He is currently playing for Spanish second division side, Las Palmas, where he is not even a regular.

So where does that leave the Nigerian football scene as cheating in itself cannot be completely eradicated? There is the saying that when the proper use of an object is not well stated then it can be abused. Our coaches must realise that winning age-grade tournaments is not the end in itself – it is the discovery of raw talents that will benefit the national teams in future - that is the real aim. Nigeria has won the Fifa U-17 tournament thrice, won two silver medals at the U-20 level and won gold at U-23 level at the Olympics but ironically has never reached the quarter final stage of the World Cup. That is enough food for thought.

Where are all the talents that were discovered? What happened to their careers? And it will be succinct to go back to what Okocha said, “Age usually catches up with people in the course of their career”. Can't we then deduce that age is finally catching up to the ‘young’ talents that were discovered? If we can see the need to be true to ourselves and the next generation – then age cheating will become a thing of the past. But if we continuously cannot see beyond our noses – claiming to discover 'Little Messis' when indeed they are old grandpas – then the tar of age cheating will continue to dog our football leaving us without real progress

Thats why I shake my head when people open their gullible mouth to insult people who love their safety by attending a privately secured school...

If you love your child's security here in the country, take them to Covenant uni, American university of Nigeria or other good private schools where they do not breed cultists, touts and hooligans (if you've the cash).

Family / A Male Or A Female For A First Child,which Do U Prefer/would Av Preferred? by pgiddy(m): 9:24pm On Feb 22, 2013
A first child in a family carries a whole lot of responsibilities as he/she grows up which are quite numerous, if u had the choice to choose which u want for a first child, which would you go for a Male or a female, with reasons please. I would prefer a female as a first child, coss females are always more responsible and caring than males and they do always set good precedence for their younger ones, females are also more trustworthy and Obedient than Males, females are more dutiful than males also and so on and so forth. Your opinions please.
Education / Tension, As ABU Vice Chancellor Says “no New Church” On Kongo Campus by pgiddy(m): 5:53pm On Feb 22, 2013
A security operative in Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State, has confirmed to SaharaReporters that Vice Chancellor Abdullahi ;Mustapha’s refusal to allow a Catholic Chapel at the Kongo Campus is creating tension between the Christian community and the management.
Discussions over the building of a new Church on Kongo campus has ongoing been on for years, and the Christian community in the university is accusing the management of favouritism on the grounds that there are several Mosques on the campus and that it has never denied the Muslim community permission to construct a new one.
The security operative said, “As it is now, there is tension because of the development and we have forwarded our security report to our superiors for prompt action.”
In a letter dated February 18, 2013, addressed to the Catholics and the Christian community, Professor Mustapha said, “there will be no more new Churches on the Kongo Campus”, and asked the Christian community to arrange to utilize the existing chapel.
The university is yet to respond to the issue in the media, but the Christian community is understood to have formally alerted the Kaduna State government and the security agencies of the ;latest developments

Sports / Are This Present Super Eagles Team Not Been Over-celebrated/over Honoured? by pgiddy(m): 6:37am On Feb 14, 2013
I think these guys were over honored, they were given plots of lands, money, special seasons, so why the National honors again, or is it another way to ridicule the National honors again? We ve won the Nation's cup twice, nd this is just the 3rd, so for me they didn't achieve any uncommon feat, by the way, some African nations ve lifted the trophy back to back, so why giving them a National honor? Is it the world cup that we won? Moreso, only lik about 16 players kicked d ball out of d 23 member squad dat went to AFCON,is it nt a ridicule on our National honours to get dole out Naational honours to all d members of d squad,in which some of dose bench waarmers sef don't deserve to be in d squad. Wat if Nigeria wins d worldd cup, den wat honor will he give dem deen, may GCFR cheesy ,My thoughts though.

Politics / FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, Justifies Allocation Of N4bn For First Ladies Build by pgiddy(m): 9:25pm On Feb 04, 2013
FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed
By SaharaReporters, New York
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minster, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has made a futile attempt at justifying the allocation of N4bn in the 2013 budget to the building the First Ladies Mission office complex in Abuja.
The Minister said that Decree No. 6 of 1976 which created Abuja simultaneously created the Federal Capital Development Authority with duty and responsibilities to plan, design, provide the infrastructure and construct public buildings as well as services to the entire 8,000 square kilometers of the FCT.
Mohammed, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Information Management Systems, Hajiya Jamilah Tangazah, recalled that the African First Ladies Peace Mission was created in 1996 to promote peace and harmony in Africa after the 1995 Beijing Conference on Women and its subsequent declaration in Zimbabwe during which the Organization of African Unity (now African Union) keyed in.
He said that since its inception in 1996, the organization has been debating issues of relevance to African women, children and youths, such as social justice, the environment, and human rights, especially gender equality.
The Minister said that as part of its remit to live up to its international obligations, the Federal Government accommodates certain international bodies just like it is done across the globe; adding that every year, the cost of rent or accommodation for such bodies tends to be above one billion Naira.
According to him, in Abuja this obligation is transferred to the FCT administration and as part of its efficiency measures, the FCT administration saw in the proposed headquarters of the African First Ladies Peace Mission building an opportunity to save cost by using the AFLPM building to serve multiple roles in providing office accommodation as well as housing not just for the African First Ladies Peace Mission but to other international bodies as well.
Mohammed noted that from the foregoing, it can be seen that by proposing to build the AFLPM edifice, a publicly-listed building, the FCT administration is only acting in accordance with its duties and responsibilities as envisioned by the law.
The Minister emphasized that the FCT Administration has submitted the budget to the National Assembly to debate on it and give its final approval based on the requisite needs of the nation’s capital as dictated by local, national and international postulations.
He expressed happiness that based on these, the administration is convinced that the robust public debate that erupted on aspects of the proposed FCT 2013 budget will be done and guided with the fervour of a people who are conscious of their historical and current roles and are proud of their tradition not only as national, but as regional and continental leaders.
Reviewing these remarks this afternoon, a political analyst said that the Minister is simply blowing smoke.  “The question is: How do you spend N4billion, in a continent as poor as Africa, on one building that has no practical purpose, and will only be used once in many years by Africa’s most pampered and most insensitive group of people?”. My heart bleeds for this country, instead for this wicked man to bury his heaad in shame,he still has the gut to defend himself,if not for alsso this retardeen president we've got,is this minister not yet supposed to b sacked by now? 2015,we r eagerly waiting for you.

After watching Nigeria's match against CIV,I must confess that those boys really gave their all to it.but am sstill of d opinion that the team still needs some reinforcement in some area in subsequent competitions. We rily don't a real left back yet, echijille z trying bt he z still our weakest link,we nid a left back in d mould of ashley cole or baines,some1 who can rily ssupport d attack vry well, deliver some dangerous crossses and still defend well, also we need anoda strong striker to partner emenike, brown z gud of course,bt we can stilll mak do wth anoda striker lik Anichebe, imagine two powerful strikers in d mould of emenike n Anichebe up front, lastly we rily nid anoda jay jay okocha in dat team to complemeent the efforts of Moses, if we Can jez get that, oh boy this team will be unbeatable.
