Assuming in a group of 10 punters, 5 are expected to qualify and the result looks something thus;

In this scenario, the A - E qualifies to the next round irrespective of the fact that D, E and F and tied on points.

There will only be a playoff if the result looks something like this;

A 4.5
B 3.9
C 3.0
D 2.5
E 2.5
F 1.7
G 1.6
H 0
I 0
J 0

C, D, E and F would be involved in a playoff.
