A faction of the separatist group, Movement for the
Actualization of the Sovereign States of Biafra
(MASSOB) has issued a one week ultimatum to the
Federal Government to immediately release the
detained Director of Radio Biafra and Leader of the
Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu,
or face severe sanctions.
The group gave the ultimatum, in a statement
signed by its director of Information, Comrade Uche
Madu, in which he said, at the expiration of
ultimatum, MASSOB would “unleash the potency of
non-violence which includes civil disobedience,
civil unrest, non-cooperation, civil /massive
boycott as was done during the emancipation
struggle of Ghandi of India & Martin Luther King
junior”.
Madu affirmed that the action is sequel to the na
tionwide protest embarked by the Indigenous
People of Biafra (IPOB) on Friday, demanding for
the release of Kanu and pledged full support to the
protest by the IPOB, stressing that they would not
relent till their agitation is actualized.
The director who expressed regrets with the south
east governors, Igbo senators, monarchs as well
as leaders for not identifying with the MASSOB
struggle, warned that MASSOB would hold the Igbo
governors and senators to account if Kanu is not
released.
He stated that the south/south and southeast are
now better united in the struggle.
“For the sake of Biafra’s love for our fatherland and
the spirit of brotherhood, MASSOB shall continue to
identify with genuine and selfless Biafra agitation as
showcased in Nnamdi Kanu.
The factional MASSOB group warned the federal
government to immediately release Nnamdi Kanu
now or before Monday or face a severe action that
will bring Nigeria to her knees. Ndigbo and South-
South are much wiser, united and hungry for Biafra
now.
“Only some few disgruntled elements and Abuja
errand boys from eastern region are always
against Biafra. MASSOB shall hold Igbo governors,
National Assembly members, traditional rulers and
opinion leaders heavily responsible if Nnamdi Kanu
is not released coming week.
“The continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will
worsen the already fragile security situation in
Nigeria. Factional MASSOB, IPOB and other
genuine groups are now ready,” he said. |

ABUJA – AS the Senate prepares to confirm the
remaining 18 ministerial nominees, today, following
the conclusion of their screening yesterday,
senators of the opposition Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, have told the Senate President, Bukola
Saraki that the exercise can only be carried out if
the report of Samuel Anyanwu – led Senate
Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions
on Rotimi Amaechi, is considered.
The opposition senators insisted that anything short
of their demand would not be acceptable today,
putting the Senate President in a difficult situation
now.
At the resumed sitting this morning, the PDP Senate
Caucus, speaking through the Deputy Minority
Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi, PDP, Ekiti South,
said it was necessary that the Senate tabled the
Anyanwu report for consideration before going into
the confirmation of the nominees.
Olujimi, who raised a point of order, under Order 43
of the Senate Standing Rule, told the Senate
President to suspend all the processes leading to
the confirmation of the ministerial nominees until the
consideration of the report.
But she was, however, ruled out of order by the
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who said the
Senate would first handle the screening of nominees
for appointments as federal commissioners of the
Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
He said the issue raised by the senator would be
handled when the Red Chamber goes into
ministerial confirmation.
Among the 19 minister nominees listed on the
Senate Order Paper for confirmation today,
Amaechi’s name is the last, fueling speculation that
the former Rivers State helmsman may have
difficulty scaling the process.
At the moment, the Senate is screening the
nominees for the INEC jobs.

PORT HARCOURT – OVER 1000 persons have
been rendered homeless as flood sacked about
60 homes and five churches in Ahoada West
Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The flood caused by overflow of Orashi river,
affected five communities, including Oruama,
Akinima, Mbiama and Joinkrama 1and 2.
Meteorologists had predicted flooding in some
communities in the country, including those in
Ahoada, which was also heavily hit by the 2012
flooding. When Vanguard visited the area, flood
had already taken over several homes, leaving
the residents in absolute confusion and fear. Mr.
Eniata Abiaba, a community leader in one of the
communities, Akinima, complained that the flood
took them unawares, adding that all their farms
had been submerged.
He said the communities were now in big
problem, noting that the people thought they
would never experience the type of flooding that
affected the area in 2012.
He said: “The communities that are experiencing
the flood is in a big problem because of the
overflow of Orashi river. Now our homes and
farms have been submerged in the water. We
don’t have where to go and what to eat.”
Meanwhile, the immediate past chairman of
Ahoada West Local Government Area, Mr.
Ikechukwu Obuzor, has called for a swift
intervention by the National Emergency
Management Agency, NEMA, and other
responsible agencies.Obuzor said the people of
the area were now faced with several
challenges, calling on the state government to
provide alternative source of livelihood for the
people seriously affected. |
There is an indication that the Presidency has
reversed itself on the petroleum ministerial
position.
The portfolio will now have no minister, while a
ministerial nominee in the person of Emmanuel
Kachikwu, current Managing Director of Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, would be
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.
This indication was given by the presidential
spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina, barely two weeks
after he had told international media that President
Muhammadu Buhari would take the position.
Bloomberg, yesterday quoted Adesina as saying
“he cannot be President and oil minister at the
same time. He will supervise the ministry, so there
will be no petroleum minister. Maybe he will appoint
a Minister of State.”
Adesina had said in New York, few days to handing
over of the ministerial nominees’ list to the Senate
that Buhari was to take charge of the ministry.
Reports had come from New York, where Buhari
was attending the UN General Assembly last
month, quoting the President as saying he would be
Minister of Petroleum, with a junior minister taking
charge of day-to-day affairs in the sector.
Though Adesina gave the impression that the
reversal was to separate the office of the President
from that of petroleum ministry, it was speculated
that the move may be due to some Senators’ threat
to force a screening of the President in line with
their rules, if he nominates himself for the position.
Buhari has made tackling the rot in the oil sector a
priority, as he seeks to cut endemic graft and put
the country’s crippled, crude-dependent finances
on a firmer footing.
Nigeria, Africa’s number one crude producer and
biggest economy, has been hit badly by a slump in
global crude prices since last year, squeezing
government revenue.
Oil accounts for some 90 percent of Nigeria’s
foreign exchange earnings.
The president has vowed to recover “mind-
boggling” sums of stolen oil cash, starting with a
drastic overhaul of NNPC, the government-owned
oil firm.
Buhari helped establish the NNPC in 1977 as oil
minister under military government of General
Olusegun Obasanjo.
He was later in charge of the Petroleum Trust Fund
during the time of General Sani Abacha in the
1990s. |
The National Institute of Legislative Studies, NILS
has released a set of documents, showing what
constitutes the earnings of federal Legislators in
Nigeria.
The table represents the earning as released by Dr.
Ladi Hamalai-led institute.

How will you feel as a mother if your husband sexually abuses your innocent daughter? This is the question a woman in Bauchi State is trying to come to terms with, as her husband, Abubakar Magaji, a resident of Liman Kagum in Bauchi local government, did the abominable act of having carnal knowledge of their 11-year-old daughter. More shocking is the fact that it was not a one-act misadventure but a repeated one. But like a popular saying has it: Many days for a thief and one day for the owner, nemesis eventually caught up with the 45-year-old father when he was arrested and paraded along with others at the Bauchi State command for rape. When VM sought to know why Abubakar will abuse his own child sexually, he confessed he was tempted by the devil. He added that he could not resist defiling his daughter when his wife left him because of a misunderstanding between them. Questions from journalists The father of four who was ashamed to lift his head while answering questions from journalists said: “I engaged in the ugly act because I had a misunderstanding with my wife and she left me. I am ashamed of my self because it was temptation that led me to do it. “I divorced her mother and married another wife but unfortunately my wife also left me a month ago so I needed a woman to be with; so that was why I did it. I also have a problem with my sexual libido. It is so terrible that I desire any woman I see, but what stops me from approaching them is that people respect me as a married man. So I felt the only way I could relieve my sexual tension was to sleep with my daughter, since she is so young and had no knowledge about sex. “It was after I defiled her and I was arrested by the police that I understood the gravity of my offence. I can’t imagine that I did this to my own daughter. I regret my actions and I pray that God will forgive me”. When VM visited the residence of the suspect at Liman Katagum, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, a neighbour to Abubakar who did not disclose his name, said that he was shocked to hear that Abubakar was arrested by the police because he defiled his daughter. According to him: “ I was shocked when I discovered that Mallam Abubakar who I had a lot of respect for will stoop that low and sleep with an 11-year-old child that happens to be his daughter. “This is the highest level of abomination and Islam is against such an act. No matter the excuse, a man does not have the right to defile a girl outside the confines of marriage. This is unacceptable and he deserves to be punished by the law”. He called for severe punitive measures to be carried on rapists in the country, saying that will serve as a deterrent to those contemplating on engaging in such an act. Reacting to the development, the state Commissioner of Police, Lawal, Shehu expressed worry over the increasing rate of rape cases in the state and vowed that all rape suspects will be charged to court and prosecuted. He said: “Since January, we have arrested over 10 suspected rapists, only this week we recorded over five cases. It is worrisome that among the suspects arrested is a 45-year-old man who raped his 11- year-old daughter and two aged men who are between 45 to 54 years who raped teenage girls of between two years and four years”. “This is why I’m sounding a note of caution to parents, especially mothers, to always monitor the movement of their female children. I particularly want to warn mothers to be always on alert because rape is on the increase and teenagers and little children between five and fifteen years are now the victims. “Any suspect arrested in connection with a rape case will be charged to court and be prosecuted; they should also know that the offence is not bailable. Even when courts are on strike, the suspects will remain in detention till the strike is called off”.

In case, just in case it hapn, I didicate this to my dear Friend, Hon-Sam Chukwuemeka, who is new in NL |
Lai Mohammed in his reaction, to journalists in
Ilorin, to counter protest against his ministerial
nomination insisted that himself and his family
registered in Oro, his hometown, adding that he
contributed in no small means to the
development of the party in his local government
and the success of the member of house of
representatives from that area and challenged
the protesters to cross check these facts.
The ministerial nominee who admitted that he
was not in Kwara state during the elections also
said that his national assignment to the party
during the period was more important than
coming to cast a single vote in kwara state.
He further said that since nobody could deny him
of being a citizen of Kwara state, he reserved the
right to stay in Lagos or any part of Nigeria and
so he deserved the ministerial nomination.
The APC spokesman also explained that the
emergence of his son as a member of Lagos
state house of assembly was his own political
reward for his service to the people of the area
which they willingly gave him,and so had nothing
to do with his own nomination as a minister. |

Op started well with d title and some vital point. But ended up as a joke. The fact is violence will not solve problem but remaining as a slave when u can fight for your freedom is being coward. What the Igbo need to do is resort to alternative to violence through seeking first for the restructuring of of our federal system to granting more automy to different regions. The fact is that the foundation of this country was layed on victor vanquished constitution. Its not benefiting many not just Igbos except the North. |
Lagos – The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said on Monday that it had blacklisted three centres accredited for the conduct of the recently concluded Computer Based Test (CBT) in the country. Mr Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Relations Officer, said in Lagos that the centres were axed over inadequate and sub-standard facilities for accreditation. “These three centres are located in the South-East, South-West and Abuja and have been blacklisted. “We noticed that owners of these centres, out of greed, presented to us facilities that did not belong to them just because they wanted to be part of the examination. “They were not sincere enough to let the organisers of the examination know that they did not have all the necessary backups needed by JAMB as a prerequisite for the accreditation of any centre that would want to host the examination. “These centres posed challenges to candidates who were to write the examination there, due to the inadequacies, and we quickly swung to action by relocating them,” he said. He said, however, that in spite of the initial hitches, the outcome of the examination was encouraging. Benjamin said the board would build on the success of the 2015 JAMB examination which was the CBT for all candidates. “We want to assure Nigerians that we shall be giving them one of the best CBT ever conducted in the country come 2016. “We have taken note of all areas of concern and are working toward making it better. “As we plan for the 2016 version, generally, I can tell you that our 2015 outing on the all CBT platform, was quite encouraging,” the spokesman said. Rep. Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje, Chairperson, House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, has called for the evacuation of Nigerians within 24 hours from South Africa owing to ongoing attacks on non-indigenes. Ukeje (PDP-Abia) made the appeal in a phone interview with newsmen on Thursday in Ibadan. NIgerian Senate in session. She said that the call was necessary because of increasing attacks on Nigerians and non-Nigerians alike in South Africa. “The Federal Government of Nigeria should rise up to the occasion by having contingency plans to evacuate Nigerians within 24 hours to avoid us losing our citizens to these attacks. “It is expedient to think of where all Nigerians can gather within 24 hours for safety either in our embassy or mission for the safety of our citizens,’’ she said. The lawmaker suggested that a concrete arrangement with some airlines should be made to evacuate Nigerians back home. She also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to equally mobilise to take care of the returnees. Ukeje noted with concern that that the xenophobia was degenerating to Afrophobia as many black Africans, including Nigerians, were being attacked from Johannesburg to Durban. She advised the Nigerian government against delay till some of her citizens are killed in the latest attacks before implementing its citizen diplomacy policy. “Unfortunately, there is no serious condemnation from South Africa government on this attacks, hence the need for Nigerian government to be proactive and rescue her citizens as soon as possible,’’ she said. She expressed surprise that South Africa that housed African Parliament and other institutions of Africa in the continent could descend so low to the extent of her nationals attacking other Africans living in that country. Ukeje said her committee was in close contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to see what could be done to protect Nigerians in South Africa, while the House is to engage relevant stakeholders on the matter. Rep. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora, also told pressmen on phone that a motion on the issue would be tabled during the plenary session of the House. Dabiri-Erewa (APC-Lagos) condemned the attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa, saying it was disgusting for South Africans to be treating Nigerians like that despite the Nigeria’s role during the apartheid struggle. Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, Minister of State II, for Foreign Affairs, has said that no Nigerian was killed in the attack against foreigners in South Africa. “We are following the developments in South Africa and efforts are being made to protect Nigerian citizens in South Africa,’’ Obanikoro assured. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/04/xenophobia-rep-calls-for-evacuation-of-nigerians-from-south-africa/ |
