EducationJamb Scraps Awaiting Results, Includes 4th Choice by philpwresh(op): 6:51am On Mar 01, 2017
We sincerely appreciate the patience exhibited by Nigerians in allowing us take time to add value to the services we have been offering to Nigerians for over three decades. Because we need a different and progressive result that will position Nigerian educational system in an enviable height in the comity of nations, then we must do things differently. The Board is poised to see that a reasonable percentage of candidates who take this examination and are qualified find placement in tertiary institutions. In the cause of conducting admission exercise, many institutions have admitted candidates on merit only for them to discover that such candidates do not have qualified O’levels results or the right combination for admission and had to delete and start the process all over again. With this, they would have denied other qualified candidates the opportunities for admissions. This we are addressing by ensuring that no candidate is henceforth recommended without his O’levels result being supplied. To achieve this, JAMB will insist that candidates supply their result on its website during registration or later, but before admissions commences for them to be considered for admissions. We believe this will allow only qualified candidates to be considered for admissions. We have designed a Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) where the Board will interface with the institutions and ensure the compliance of this reform. The summary is that no candidate will be admitted with awaiting result. Candidates and their parents are also to note that the Board has restructured the registration platform to allow for only one choice of Public University. The new registration platform will now be first choice, second choice, third choice and fourth choice and not most preferred, preferred etc as it was. Candidates’ first choice can be a College, University, Innovative Enterprises Institutions or Polytechnic/Monotechnic. However, if a candidate makes a Public University his first choice, he will not have any public University to choose for 2nd, 3rd and 4th choice. He will have on the remaining three choices, a College, a Polytechnic, Private University and IEI’S. However, candidates for the 2017 UTME can now select NCE (College) or ND (Polytechnic/Monotechnic) as their 1st choice up to 3rd choice and the 4th IEI. They can select the IEI (Innovative Enterprise Institution, ND) as their 1st choice up to the 4th choice, but can only pick a public university once. This restructuring is to expand the opportunities available to candidates as almost all the public universities do not consider candidates on the second choice list because they hardly exhaust their first choice. The registration of UTME this year will go side by side with the Direct Entry and during registration, candidates 10 fingeare to be captured using Biometric Verification Machine (BVN). Again, we want to inform candidates that no cyber café will be registering candidates for our examination. On no account should any candidate patronize any cybercafé for our registration. It is important to note that the Board will not deploy the use of any scratch card for the 2017 UTME registration exercise.

Three secondary school teachers in Ebomisi Secondary School, Ugbogiobo village, Ovia North East Local Council of Edo State have been kidnapped by suspected herdsmen. The three male teachers were reportedly abducted on Monday while returning from school. Three other female teachers who were said to be in the company of the abducted teachers were allowed to go by the kidnappers. Students of the school yesterday abandoned classes and took to the Benin-Akure expressway to protest their teachers’ abduction. The students set up bonfires and left passengers and motorists stranded on the road for many hours. Advertisement Some of the teachers, who spoke on anonymity, said the kidnappers have demanded N10 million as ransom on each of the teachers. When contacted, the Edo State Police spokesman, Moses Nkombe, said he travelled to Abuja for a conference. The state Police Commissioner, Haliru Gwandu, could not be reached for comments on the matter. Meanwhile, police in Niger State have arrested 104 suspects for various offences including cattle rustling, kidnapping, armed robbery, homicide, rape, and unlawful possession of firearms. The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana, who disclosed this to journalists in Minna, said exhibits recovered during the arrests included three AK 47 rifles with 334 rounds of live ammunition, one SMG rifle with six live ammunition, 12 single barrel guns, four locally- made pistols, one revolver pistol and 672 cattle. He said the arrests were made possible with the collaboration of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tactical Unit and operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), who have helped in sustaining the tempo in the fight against armed bandits in the state. Elkana, however, adjudged the month of February as the most peaceful in recent times. The Sole Administrator of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, Mr. Mike Inalegwu, has explained the influx of over 50,000 herdsmen in the area. Inalegwu said the herdsmen were in the area for grazing and not to attack the communities. He urged the residents not to panic. He told journalists that their arrival was part of the agreement reached by Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom and his counterpart in Nasarawa, Tanko Al-Makura. As part of the agreement, he said, “Fulani herdsmen would only be permitted to graze their cattle at the end of February, 2017 after the harvest season.” He stressed that the decision was part of the measures to find a lasting solution to the perennial Agatu, Fulani crises.According to him, the Agatu communities are peace-loving people hence they allowed them to graze their cattle. He, however, urged the herdsmen not to allow their cattle to stray to the farms of the host communities to avoid the destruction of their crops. Inalegwu denied the involvement of Agatu youths in the alleged slaughtering of 52 cows at Adoka, in Otukpo Local Council of the state. He said: “From the investigation we carried out, no Agatu youth was connected with the butchering in Adoka.”On the ultimatum given to Agatu elders to bring out the killer of a soldier in the area, he stressed that the community has not been able to apprehend him. “It is unfortunate that a soldier who was on a peace- keeping mission was gruesomely murdered. We apologise to the chief of army staff and assure him that the council would do everything to arrest the culprit,” pledged. In this article: Herdsmen Advertisement

Christianity EtcDancing In Worship: What The Bible Says by philpwresh(op): 5:49pm On Feb 27, 2017
Answer: Dance is mentioned on many occasions in Scripture. The first appearance of God’s people dancing as an act of worship is found in Exodus 15:20: “Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her, with tambourines and dancing.” This joyful dance to the Lord, led by Miriam, followed Israel’s crossing of the Red Sea and celebrated Israel’s newfound freedom from slavery. However, dancing is not always presented in a positive light in the Bible. Soon after Miriam’s dance of praise, the Israelites were found dancing before a golden calf in worship. “When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain” (Exodus 32:19). On this occasion dancing was part of a wicked, idolatrous carousal. Thus, dancing is a mode of expression that can be used for good or for evil. Other instances of dancing in the Bible Include 2 Samuel 6:16, which has David “leaping and dancing before the LORD.” Also, the Amalekites danced in celebration after plundering Judah and Philistia ( 1 Samuel 30:16); theirs was a short-lived dance, however, as David and his men soon defeated them (verses 17-20). The Psalms offer a unique look at dance as an act of worship. In Psalm 30:11, the psalmist says, “You turned my wailing into dancing.” Psalm 149:3 encourages the use of dancing to worship God: “Let them praise his name with dancing!” Likewise, Psalm 150:4 urges, “Praise him with tambourine and dancing!” just like Miriam. Some have argued that dance is an Old Testament form of expression. Since dance is not mentioned as a method of worship in the New Testament, Christians should not worship in this manner. However, this is an argument from silence and is not based on clear biblical teaching. Most early Christians were Jewish and likely would have incorporated Jewish forms of worship in their praise to the risen Messiah. Another concern has been the association of dance with sinful activities. The idea is that, if dance is used in worship, it could be seen as approving dance in other situations that do not honor God. However, this is not necessarily the case. The Amalekites’ dancing in 1 Samuel did not prevent David from dancing in 2 Samuel. Christians can and should utilize dance as they do any other art form such as music, painting, drama, or filmmaking. As long as dance is worshipful, God- focused, and praiseworthy, it can have a proper place in worship. Worship dance is a far cry from the seductive dance of the daughter of Herodias ( Mark 6:17-28). Finally, it is important to understand that dance in the context of worship is not simply self- expression. It should be done in a way that is helpful to the entire congregation. Paul noted that “everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way” in the church ( 1 Corinthians 14:40). “Everything” would include the use of dance in worship. Anything during a worship gathering that distracts from a focus on Christ should be left out. Each congregation bears the responsibility to structure its worship service in a way that honors God and encourages those within their group. Dance is used as an act of worship in Scripture and can continue to be used in that way today. However, churches should take care to avoid dance that leads others to temptation or sin, and the focus must remain on worshiping God rather than drawing attention to self. When practiced in this way, dance is a beautiful art form that can communicate truth, bringing glory to God and edifying others.
