Justice Adolphus Enebeli of Rivers State High Court yesterday sentenced a Police Inspector, Mr. Samuel Timothy to death by hanging.
The Inspector shot dead one Onyekachi Nwasouba, a graduate of Industrial chemistry on November 10 , 2010 at No 34 Old Aba road, Port Harcourt at about 5am.
The deceased reportedly pleaded that he was not an armed robber before he was shot dead by the trigger happy Inspector Timothy.
The deceased according to information available before the court was a producer and distributor of his brand of sachet water. He was out to distribute the sachet water to his clients when the sad incident occurred.
Justice Enebeli in his ruling said the matter had been in his court since 2010, describing the convict as inhuman and not fit to live among descent humans.
“inhuman trigger-happy policeman, who engages in murder; a hater of humankind and merciless killer, after hearing that the victim was an ordinary pure water seller”.
“According to Section 319 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I do not have the power to reduce your sentence. That, you, Inspector Timothy Sampson be hanged on your neck until you are dead”, he ruled.
Justice Enebeli further discharged and acquitted Corporal Moses Obediah, saying that the testimonies of witnesses and others before the court showed that he did not conspire with Inspector Timothy to brutally murder Nwasouba.

NextGovernor:
I have been a guest of this site for more than 5yrs and I am always reluctant or lazy to pass through procedures for registration. Not because I have no reasonable things to share or contribute but I just read front pages and majorly political section.

Ever since I have been using this site, I found it not worthy on taking pains to browse through all Nigeria newspapers online or spending money on daily newspapers (Vanguard, Punch, Nation etc) because every articles on other newspaper pages (both national and international) and blogs are copied here by members of this great forum and the most I enjoy is reading comments (interesting, relevant, inrelevant, odd, funny, tribal and sentimental ones) which makes me laugh and people around me wonder what's wrong with this dude. Lol

I commend the owner of Nairaland (Seun) for this great house he built for creating and sharing our own collective views. This site is just everything you can think of. Because all aspect of life, all our need has a section on this forum. I got my first dog from Nairaland and that Dog big pass human being now. lol

But there comes this man who was Barcanista and later transformed to TonyeBarcanista. I follow his topics on regular basis even when I was a guest member. He argues reasonably and put fact in all his articles and writings. The only person that causes nightmare to the opposition. Sometime when I have some heat argument with my friends I secretly opens he thread and pick a harsh point and facts with verifiable source to nail them and this has be working.

I will say I am a full member of this forum who will be active from today not because of any other person but was attracted by the brains, excellent writings and arguable facts of Barcanista and again the owner of this site (Seun) for creating a nice atmosphere for Nigerians both home and diaspora.

I salute everybody in this forum and will render my contribution and comments to this forum when needed.

Nextgovernor.
On behalf of Wailing wailers family,
I welcome you.

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA- SENATE President Bukola Saraki has denied reports that he was attacked Thursday when he went to pray as part of activities to mark this year’s Eid- El Kabir.
A statement from his media office yesterday read: “The attention of the Media Office of the Senate President has been drawn to media reports that the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, was allegedly attacked at the Eid Prayer Ground during the prayers to mark the Eid-el-Kabir in Ilorin.
“The Senate President arrived at the venue this morning without any incident, prayed with other Muslim faithful, including the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness (HRH), Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ali Ahmad and a former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Alfa Belgore, among others.
“Before the Senate President left the prayer ground, he spoke to reporters who had asked him about his message for Nigerians to mark the Eid-el-Kabir.
“We want to say that nothing can be further from the truth as the Senate President was never attacked nor was there any attempt made on his life to warrant him being ‘whisked away’ as reported by a section of the media.
“We however observe that there was a protest allegedly staged by local government employees over purported non-payment of salaries which hoodlums attempted to hijacked but this development was immediately curtailed by security agents.
“Therefore, to say that the Senate President was attacked at the venue of the prayers is totally false and a figment of the imagination of those behind the story because the protest was never targeted at him, neither was any missile hurled at him.
“The Kwara State Government has since issued a statement in which it stated that majority of the workers in the state have received their salaries and that those yet to receive theirs will do so on Monday as Thursday and Friday of this week are public holidays.”

Blame Jonathan, PDP for Chibok girls’ abduction – Amaechi

MAY 27, 2014 : CHUKWUDI AKASIKE

Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration and the Peoples Democratic Party should be held responsible for the abduction of over 200 Chibok school girls.

Members of the Boko Haram sect had stormed the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State and kidnapped hundreds of female students.

Speaking on Tuesday during an interdenominational church service marking this year’s Children’s Day celebration in Port Harcourt, Amaechi also said that Nigerians were guilty of the crime against the kidnapped girls by voting the Peoples Democratic Party into power.

Explaining that change could only come if Nigerians resolved to vote out the PDP in the 2015 general election, the governor stated that God allowed the kidnap of the girls in order to expose the leaders and the uncontrollable level of corruption.

“The blame is on us; your parents and those of us who are in government. We owe you the responsibility of safety; we owe you the responsibility of good education, so that you can become for us the future parents when we depart this world.

“All of us are guilty of this crime; because in 2011, we went and voted for this government. So, we are responsible for the kidnap of Chibok school children, because we chose the government; you chose me and you chose the president.

“All of us are guilty of the crime against Chibok girls. The president or PDP is guilty because it is in power and they are supposed to protect you and I. But you and I are not protected. We are guilty of choosing them.

“If, therefore, you are not able to protect the Chibok girls, then, all of us, especially the government in power, should be held responsible for the lives of the children of Chibok,” Amaechi said.

The governor carpeted the PDP for being after its political affairs without considering the plight of the abducted school girls and insecurity bedevilling the country.

He expressed the need for Nigerians to ask why over 200 students were kidnapped and the ruling PDP was celebrating in Kano State.

“I have said it before; God is tired of Nigeria, and now is the better opportunity to choose another government. Chibok girls are over 200. They are killing everyday. People are losing their children, losing their parents everyday. They went to Yobe State, burnt the whole school and killed children. What did we do?

“God became fed up with Nigeria and decided to allow the kidnap of Chibok girls. Why did God allow it? The story of Chibok will not end today. It is the story of a new beginning for Nigeria. If God did not allow it, Nigeria will not ask for change.

“Nigeria is only interested in one thing, which is corruption. These children have become sacrificial lambs after Jesus Christ for the good and benefit of Nigeria.

“It means that you and I must rise up and ask for change today to demand for a better government, to demand for accountability, to ask why Chibok girls were kidnapped and PDP was celebrating in Kano.

He, however, urged Nigerians to continue praying for safe release of the girls, adding that Rivers State decided to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration with a solemn assembly to share in the pains of the victims and their parents.

APC blames Mimiko for Falae’s kidnap

The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has blamed Governor Olusegun Mimiko, for the abduction of the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae.

The APC said this in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, on Wednesday.

The party also berated the governor for the high rate of kidnapping, rape, robbery, extrajudicial killing and other social vices in the state.

The APC noted that Falae was kidnapped in his farm in the Akure area of the state. The party said other people had been kidnapped around the farm about two weeks ago and a security report was given to the governor but Mimiko and the police authorities failed to act.

The statement read in part, “About three weeks ago, specifically on September 2, 2015, around Chief Olu Falae’s farm in Ala village, Akure- North Local Government area of the state, a farmer, Mr. Adediran Adejo, was kidnapped from his farm. Adejo was in captivity for several days and was not released until a ransom was paid to his abductors.

“Governor Olusegun Mimiko, being the Chief Security Officer of the state, the Ondo State Police Command and other security agencies had adequate information and notice about the kidnapping and other criminal activities in this area and across the state, but they were lackadaisical about these developments.

“The kidnapping of Chief Falae, being the second within a period of three weeks in this particular area, Ala village, is totally unacceptable and it is an indictment on Governor Mimiko, the police and other security agencies for their lackadaisical attitude and dereliction of duty.”

The APC wondered how the security vote was being spent in the light of the surge in crime in the state

It said the ‘fire brigade’ approach on the current manhunt of Falae’s kidnappers is because a prominent and famous Nigerian is the latest victim.

It added, “The APC’s investigation revealed that a whooping sum of N1.5bn is being deducted as security vote from the state’s treasury on a monthly basis. If this amount is committed to securing lives and properties, these dastardly acts would have abated. “We don’t want to believe that the security vote is going into private pockets as it is being speculated.”

The APC also berated a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, for blaming the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government for Falae’s kidnap. It added that the Federal Government could not be held liable for such a crime.

However, the Ono State Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, slammed the APC for trivialising Falae’s kidnap.

The commissioner wondered how the APC could blame the governor for a surge in crimes such as rape and kidnapping. Akinmade wondered if the kidnapping of the wife of the Managing Director of The SUN, Doyin Nwosu, in Lagos last week was also the fault of Mimiko.

He urged the party to be constructive in its criticisms of the state government instead of peddling lies.

He said, “It is unfortunate that the APC can trivialise the kidnap of an elder statesman. Even in Lagos, which is an APC state, there are also kidnappings.”

Akinmade slammed the APC for saying that N1.5bn was deducted by the state government monthly as security vote.

He said, “Everyone knows the state of the economy today and many states are struggling to pay salaries. Does it make sense for us to deduct N1.5bn as security vote?”
