Fulham have parted ways with Martin Jol following the club's 3-0 loss to West Ham, installing head coach Rene Meulensteen in his place.

The former Tottenham boss had long been under pressure for an uninspiring start to the season and speculation over his future increased after his compatriot was recruited to work alongside him on November 13.

After defeat to the Hammers, Fulham find themselves in the Premier League relegation zone with 10 points after 13 games, their only victories coming over fellow strugglers Sunderland, Stoke City and Crystal Palace.

"Today I spoke with Martin to thank him for his efforts on behalf of Fulham over the past three seasons and, in particular, since my becoming chairman earlier this year," owner Shahid Khan wrote in a club statement on Sunday.

"Martin was very gracious and I appreciate his understanding of the situation. There is no question Martin is an excellent football man and he has my utmost respect for the commitment he made to our club.

"However, our poor form and results this season are undeniable and Fulham supporters deserve better. With more than half the season still ahead, an immediate change was necessary.

"Rene Meulensteen was brought to Fulham to assist Martin and today was offered the challenge and opportunity to step in for Martin. I thank Rene for accepting and now we move forward. I have great confidence in Rene and high expectations for our squad to respond."

Meulensteen added: "I appreciate the faith Mr Khan has put in me and will do my very best to honour his trus. We aim to get Fulham back on track, starting Wednesday night [against Tottenham]."

A tenant in Uyo, AkwaIbomState, allegedly set his residence ablaze, Monday, killing his landlord and landlady.
The house is located at Asuquo Eyo Street in Ifa Ikot Okpon, Uyo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, in his mid 40s, identified simply as Ime and popularly known as Shawa, was said to have threatened to burn down the house and kill his landlord and wife if they ejected him.
It was learnt that Ime, allegedly stabbed his landlord, Mr. Edem Akpan, and his wife, Affiong, to death, before setting the house ablaze.
Ms Emem Akpan, the deceased’s daughter, said trouble started when her father asked Ime to quit his house.
Akpan said that the suspect refused to park out and threatened that if her father insisted on ejecting him, he would kill them and burn down the house.
She said: “We thought what he said was just a mere threat. None of us could believe that Ime was capable of doing what he said.
“Two days ago, we saw him bringing worn-out tyres into the compound. We didn’t know he had a plan.
“Yesterday, before we left for church in the evening, he brought 20 litres of fuel, more than what his generator could contain.
“I remember a neighbour asking him what he was going to do with such amount of fuel, but he told him that he was going to run the generator overnight.”
“What we saw this morning as we returned from church, that the fuel and worn-out tyres were weapons he used to kill my parents"

Lagos—A 43-year-old dismissed Police officer, Christopher Omeleze, attached to the state Traffic Division, Ikeja, Lagos, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly taking bribe from a motorist.
The defendant, who was arraigned before Magistrate Akinde, is facing a two-count charge bordering on bribe.
Omeleze, who was said to be on duty when he committed the allegd offence, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged crime while on duty on July 31 at 9:30am on Oba Akran Road, Ikeja.
He said that the police officer used his office to demand for N25,000 from a motorist that was yet to be identified.
According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under Section 69, 63, (1) (a) of the criminal law of LagosState of Nigeria 2011.
The Magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the matter till November 4, for mention.

Sincerely we plying that road on a daily basis feel the pains and neglect of Fashola's government. I can remember last Thursday I got home 1:50AM, and am to report to work again the next day and I dont have to late. Fashola's government is just about making the lives rich more comfortable... Do you know how many people use this Ikotun route? Dat route connects Isolo,Ejibo,ISheri,Igando,Egbe, Abaranje,Iyana Ipaja and a whole lot more and these places are highlyy populated areas. There's an abandoned project along Jankande-Iyana Isheri route dat have lasted 4 over 8 years since Bola tinubu's administration, these guys mobilize to site when election is near when its won they pack their equipments off site and never return. So whenever I hear Fashola is working I alwways disagree. In my whole area there's not even one tiled (asphalt surface) we only have these red muddy earth road and yet this guy tasks the Hell out of us. Is dat fair?
