EducationMisplaced Priority: Jamb Is Not A Revenue Generating Agency! by platinumtt(op): 6:03pm On Jul 22, 2018
Misplaced priority: Jamb is not a Revenue Generating Agency!
With utmost disgust, I have read the reports on how JAMB has been able to remit N7.8 Billion Naira to the federal government of Nigeria arising from the surplus generated from the conduct of the board’s 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). And more painful are the comments from fellow Nigerians on various online platforms commending the transparency in the handling of her financial statements and ignoring the untold hardship on families and individuals seeking to write entrance examination.
Of a fact, it cannot be overlooked on how previous JAMB EXCOS could not account for any generated revenue and how JAMB was always indebted to banks and other lending establishments. It points to the single fact of how most of the agencies and parastatals in Nigeria are embroiled in massive looting. Undoubtedly, the new executive of JAMB should be commended in not observing the usual custom of 'it is our share of national cake'.
A key alarming point to examine as related to JAMB is how a federal government establishment with the mandate of conducting entrance examination into tertiary institution has become an avenue to extort admission seekers. It is no news that many people could no longer afford JAMB’s fees. In the last few months, I have read several requests online asking for assistance in purchasing JAMB’s form.

Our plea to JAMB is to make a downward review of all fees to make it affordable for all Nigerians. We should encourage education and not frustrate the underprivileged ones.

You are completely right on all your other points, but please when did braiding the hair become an exclusively female trait?
Men have always braided their hair/locks all over Africa and beyond.
In the context of Yoruba culture during the era of sango, braiding or plaiting of hair is attributed to the females.
CultureRe: "Homosexuality Wasn't Alien To Yoruba; Sango Was A Cross Dresser" - Historian by platinumtt: 6:32am On May 10, 2018
Deliberate twisting of history should be considered as a punishable crime. Did the lady even ask herself when trouser was introduced in Africa to label Sango a cross dresser. The only feminist attribute exhibited by Sango was the plaiting of his hair. And that started after he married his last wife who was always plaiting his hair out of love. The most painful part is that there are thousands versions of Sango's history and it is very hard to tell the original undiluted one. Another history book has it that there were two Sango. The original Sango during the era of obatala and Orunmila. Another Sango, which is the 4th king of Oyo (birth name: Itiolu) copied the attributes of original Sango.

On the point of Adodi and Adofuro as used in the yoruba proverb. This is extremely ridiculous. These two words actually mean the same thing as Adodi is a more subtle way of the word Adoduro. It has nothing to do with homosexualism. In fact, yoruba culture frowns at homosexuality

RomanceMedia Indulgence by platinumtt(op): 11:21pm On May 12, 2017
If we had wanted to over indulge ourselves, we could not. Television stations would start transmission at 16:00 with ten to thirty minutes of fixed rainbow screen display. And at 23:59, the sound of our national anthem with display of national flag constantly reminded us of an adage, ‘to every beginning, there is an end’ and thus television broadcast would be ended for each day. I wish i could take this single childhood memory of mine, blow it up into a bubble and live inside it forever.

We yearned for longer duration. We wanted a 24/7 nonstop TV broadcast. But we did not know, it would come with a heavy price tag. Today, thanks to improvement in technology, we now have access to thousands of television channels with never ending programs.
We have been cajoled by media with entertainment. And in this process, we have traded our core values for entertainment. Obvious changes are evident in our values been shaped by media; change in lifestyles, morals, decline in school achievements with a great threat to education sector. The influence of media on the psycho-social development cannot be over emphasized and with greater impact on children. It also captures and holds peoples’ interests for a large part of each day.

It is important to be aware of our high exposure to media and be cognizant of the whole process. There is a clear correlation between television’s influence on people and how much time they spend watching television. Frequent television’s viewing limits children’s time for vital activities such as playing, reading, learning to talk, spending time with peers and family, storytelling, participating in regular exercise, and developing other necessary physical, mental and social skills. Often without realizing it or in our unconsciousness, it often pervades our daily lives and impacts our personal perceptions and attitudes with great influence on our characters. More than 75% of television contents inspires abuse of drugs, alcohol and sex, violence and other negative vices in the society. Our core values are constantly being defined by media with no-value added TV shows, programs and celebration of entertainers or celebrities with no positive motivating characters.

EducationThere Is An Urgent Need For A Complete Overhaul Of Education System In Nigeria. by platinumtt(op): 11:40pm On May 08, 2017
There is an urgent need for a complete overhaul of education system in Nigeria.
It is apparent that we are still practicing a backward-looking education system in Nigeria in this 21st century. This system has continued to fail us in the face of recent predicaments befalling Nigeria. It has never worked and will never work except there is a complete overhaul of the system. The education system in Nigeria does not breed solution providers but rather, consumers who fully depend on imported solutions.
I do not want to be pessimistic but a clear assessment of education system in Nigeria in comparison with other countries such as United states of America, European countries, China, Japan…etc. will show a clear discord in our trend. We are theory oriented with no actual practical applicability, thereby placing unnecessary high value on the paper certificate than the product.
The education system needs to be fine-tuned with the reality and expectations of today. There has been a radical change in all industries across the globe. A good example can be seen in the telecommunication industry, which has evolved from analog system of communication to 5G. Automobiles are redefining their products and today, driverless cars have become a reality. We cannot stick to 1950’s structure of education and expect a matching readiness in our education sector.
It is an undeniable fact that Nigerians have great potentials as we have seen excellence in many Nigerians and especially those who could find a way out of this system to obtain the required education in other countries. Statistics of students applying for study visa in Nigeria is overwhelming. Our leaders and people in government are ever ready to siphon government money to sponsor overseas education for their children, such an irony of life.
Below is a list of main impacting factors that need to be addressed
1. Misplaced priorities.
a. It has become a norm for our government to make “upgrade a higher institution from polytechnics to university” as an achievement. This does not need any further explanation to show that our government does not understand the education system and thus continues to cripple it. Universities, polytechnics, colleges, and other higher institutions exist to cater for specific requirements and competence development as a way of creating a balanced society.
b. Wrong policies by the government/ companies leading to discrimination against individuals with certificates obtained from other institutions. An example is setting a maximum reachable level by a polytechnic graduate lower than a university graduate. This has created a form of complex in the education system, thus the main essence of creating higher institution with different focus on skills and competence development has been defeated by the same institution that created it.
c. Uninformed prospective students unduly influenced by the society and the education system desiring a university certificate at the expense of their strength and passion. It is no doubt that we all have different abilities. A prospective student should be able to decide the right institution and course of study without fear of complex based on his ability, strength and passion.
d. Negative impact of entertainment industry on the education system cannot be over emphasized. It has become the highest source of distraction to students. And if this trend is not checked, it can collapse the education sector. From no-value added TV shows and programs to celebration of entertainers with no positive motivating characters, the interest of our students is completely moved from educational development to frivolities.
2. Lack of efficient structure of educational programme.
a. We have unconsciously aligned to defining education as reading and writing to pass a graded subject. Vital organs such as skills and competence development are missing in our curriculum. Schools are springing up in every corner of the streets with no standard minimum requirements to be met.
b. Extracurricular activities have been phased out of the curriculum. Sporting activities can no longer be supported in our institutions as schools are only able to acquire 50ft by 50ft land space to erect school buildings.
3. Old-fashioned Instructors, lecturers and teachers
a. It is saddening to find out that in this 21st century, university students are still being taught with the same text/note books used decades of years by their respective lecturers. They continue to recycle old knowledge which seems to be outdated and no more applicable in this fast-changing world. In a knowledge based world, our students are being saddled with cramming and memorizing obsolete theories.
4. Unreliable system of validating obtained credentials;
a. Nowadays, certificate scandals are regular headlines in our major national dailies. From top government officials to trainees, it spans across all walks of life. There is little or no regard for obtained certificates as anyone can easily get ‘his copy” without boomerang.
5. Unavailability of Educational Aids and supporting tools
a. Sighting a public library in major cities of Nigeria is like looking for green vegetables in the desert during heat period. Existing few science laboratories and technical workshops are poorly equipped. Educational grants are stolen by the executives. The system thus frustrates an inspiring student. Many top companies would rather spend millions of naira on entertainers as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) than investing in educational programs.

Christianity EtcDarkness And Light by platinumtt(op): 4:14pm On May 07, 2017
http://soulawakeness..fr/2017/05/darkness-and-light.html

This article is based on the concept of darkness and light as literal contrast between evil and good.

By default, humans are filled with darkness from the very beginning. This is similar to the process of creation. Before light, there was darkness; .....darkness was on the face of the deep ( Gen 1:2). This also explains the concept of man in his crudest form being an evil genius. Without any effort, we ooze out evil and wickedness. This supports the hypothesis of a direct link between darkness and desire of the flesh as this is evident is our everyday's activities: licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, greediness and many more. Our world, which is supposed to be a haven has become a threat to her inhabitants due to our own doings.

And as read from the history of creation, light was the first thing to be created. All other things came in to existence after light. This shows clearly the importance of light as to the sequence of development. It points into direction of human's evolution, the essence of light in our being. It is analogical to an example of carrying out a task in a room filled with darkness; how difficult it would be to fulfill this task without light. Obviously, the first logical thing to do would be to introduce light with the right intensity into the room. We can not talk about the essence of light without making reference to its intensity. obviously, the effect of light from the sun can not be compared to what can be gotten from a candle light. And this is why the right intensity of light will be required for different situations.

And from this basic explanations, it will not be an overstatement to say that light is the understanding principle in mind and a symbol of wisdom. Light is the first item of consciousness, It is an awareness of an obliviousness, it brings about illumination of our world. Light has also been scientifically proven to be a type of energy which can be converted to other energies for the use of mankind. Thus, we can say, Light is also power.

This means; if things are to be done in the right way, we must first allow light into our existence. We need to rescue our world which is collapsing under our watch with our many activities linked to darkness. We need to refine ourselves. A key question to ask ourselves on the part of awakening is; What is my source of light? Then, this will lead to the next question of how much light is in me with clarity on its intensity.

This will help us to properly evaluate ourselves and re awake our souls to yearning of the spiritual ascension.

BusinessDrone Permit In Nigeria: Any Update? by platinumtt(op): 6:59pm On Apr 18, 2017
Do we have people who have been able to get a drone permit successfully in Nigeria after the ban placed last year by NCAA as stipulated below.
It will be great to have your experience shared with us a guide for those interested in getting a permit. I believe the requirements are too hard and it seems NCAA just wants to phase out the use of drones in Nigeria. And as such, has come one with unrealistic requirements.

“No government agency, organisation or an individual will launch an RPA/UAV in the Nigerian airspace for any purpose whatsoever without obtaining the requisite permit from the NCAA and ONSA. The NCAA wishes to reiterate that all applicants and holders of permits to operate RPA/Drones must strictly be guided by safety guidelines. In addition, operators must ensure strict compliance with the conditions stipulated in their permits and the requirements of the Nig. CARs” -(Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations)

Below requirements must be met to get a PAAS;
1. The business must be incorporated with the CAC and have at least ₦20 million in shares.
2. filled personal history statement with a non-refundable fee of ₦500,000 bank draft to the NCAA.
3. The PAAS issued is valid for three years with an annual utilization fee of N100,000.

Stop blaming your leaders! Train your children
Turn your heads away from the sight of distractions and close your eyes for just a minute. Let us think about where we are today as a nation. Undoubtedly, we are blessed with natural resources. we have the best of climate condition all year round. And hardly do we have natural disasters. But it seems our blessing is a curse to the nation. There is so much wealth in the land, yet many people are starving. If we did say there is a stunted development in the land, that would be an understatement.

It has become customary in many places of the world especially in Africa, to always put blames on their leaders while the people do nothing. Many people believe that the state of underdevelopment is mainly due to lack of vision on the path of their leaders. Every time I watch or read about show of shame displayed by our so called distinguished leaders, there is a silent cry from my within. I also do ask myself, what did we do wrong to be cursed with these sets of leaders.

But of the truth is; our leaders reflect our true identities. The problem is actually not with the leaders but the masses. Leaders come from the masses and are even elected by the masses. Deformed characters exhibited by our leaders are evident in almost every homes across the nation. We have a lot of people with integrity issues molded by the environment and their upbringing.

Most issues which have crippled our institutions and thus impacting our growth and development such as corruption, greediness, stealing, dishonesty, hatred, sheer wickedness and others can be attributed to lack of integrity defined as the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Virtually all institutions have collapsed including our major educational, judiciary and electioneering systems. The systems have been bastardized, what can we expect of their outputs? Unfits at the helms of affairs!

We need to address the issue together as a way of perfecting our institution. Even though, it might be a little late for past generations and the present generation, we need to help build a better institution for the coming generations by instilling integrity in our children.

How do we instill integrity in our children? By leading by example. Every one of us can decide to be of strong principles. It is high time we stopped dancing to the tune of environment and create for our-self our desired atmosphere. Our children must learn from the mistakes made by fore generations and avoid it. When we are able to work on our integrity issues, every other thing including development will fall into place. And our children can stop seeking for Visas to travel out of the country in search for a greener pasture. It is within our duty to lay a strong foundation for our children and this should be done collectively as a way of building a strong institution for the nation.

DEVELOP YOUR PLOTS IN KARSHI OR HAVE THEM REVOKED-MIN

The FCT Administration has warned all those who have plots of land in serviced areas in Karshi Satellite Town to develop them or have them revoked forthwith.

The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello issued this warning while he paid an unscheduled visit in company of the FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr. Babatope Ajakaiye to Karshi Satellite Town to assess some of the ongoing projects in that axis.

Malam Bello expressed dismay that the FCT Administration had spent several billions of Naira to provide engineering infrastructure to service those plots but the allottees have left them undeveloped.

According to him, most of the allocation papers to such plots of land have ended up in briefcases and therefore used the occasion to notify them to end the speculation and free the plots for development.

His words: “As you can see based on our inspection, the primary infrastructure in the Karshi township layout has all been completed, but nobody has put up any building there. The whole idea of opening new areas is for development to take place.”

“So, we have extant regulations that once primary infrastructure is in a location and there is no development, plots in that location will be revoked,” he emphasized.

The Minister added, “I want to use this medium to advise all those who have allocations in Karshi town centre where the primary infrastructure has since been completed to commence development or else, we are going to revoke the plots and allocate to the teeming millions of Nigerians who really want to develop them”.

The Director of Satellite Towns Development Department, Mrs. Victoria Imande led the Minister and members of his entourage round the project site.

Nairaland GeneralThe Man I Have Become by platinumtt(op): 4:51pm On Feb 26, 2017
The Man I have become brings about a deep assessment of one's being. Looking at the man you have become today, are you proud of whom you have become or just full of regrets and 'had i known'.One vital key of progress is assessment and evaluation. Many questions are asked rhetorically; Am i satisfied with the man i have become? Are things the way i actually wished? Are there things i would love to change if given another chance? Are there actions i wish i never took? Are there golden opportunities i wish i had taken?

A deep and true assessment has to be done without prejudices that becloud judgment . Everyone can be better with true desire to improve and effort. But first, we must identify our weakness. This is similar to troubleshooting process where you first identify the points to be addressed. This is done by assessing oneself and clearly isolating areas to be addressed.

We all undoubtedly know that we cannot turn back the hands of time. Sometimes, there are situations that we have virtually no control over and we can only leave these situations to fate. Thus, such an excited and a remorseful feeling all lumped up in just one great feeling! So, what can we gain from this assessment? This will help in identifying critical areas to be addressed for improvement or to capitalize on. We can also learn great lessons from past experiences as to be prepared for similar encounters in the nearest future.

One's major focus should be on true happiness on the path of self-actualization. And true happiness must be clearly separated from material-wealth. Even though, wealth can bring about happiness, but wealth by itself is not true happiness.

Christianity EtcSearch For Inner Upliftment by platinumtt(op): 5:17pm On Feb 17, 2017
http://soulawakeness..fr/2017/02/the-search-for-sacred-purpose-of.html

The search for the sacred purpose of existence in man as a way to align with supreme ruling forces can be dated back to creation of the universe itself. Man knowingly or unknowingly has always been in search of supreme power such as filling an existing vacuum of his existence. This also brings about the search for individual purpose on earth which continues throughout one's life.

With the many existing religions and doctrines today, many people have filled this vacuum with teachings and ideologies from their various religions. And these people have comfortably placed an opaque veil on the inner yearning for the true alignment with the supreme being. They do not bother to seek answers to questions as they believe some things are not to be revealed. And even, if they do seek answers, they assess on the path of their doctrines as baselines and are not open minded to have a clear view of what it should be rather than what they want it to be. The danger is definitely the validation of accepted doctrines and teaching in which they have indulged themselves and get so comfortable.

Even with the atheist, a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods. He is in constant struggle filling this vacuum with unbelief as a way of suppressing the urge for inward/inner alignment with supreme forces. With time, he is able to build a solid wall of unbelief that easily kills this inner desire. And he lives on making two by just adding one and one as he requires only the mathematical representation of all researches.

And there are also very few people who keep searching for the inner truth as a way of liberation. They nurture this inner force by seeking answers to some foundation questions. This task by itself seems to be an open loop as the vacuum seems to get wider with the more you search. They become too self conscious of everything around them.

It is clear, this inner desire to align with the sacred being exists just as individual thirsts for water. But the question is: are you suppressing it with your belief and unbelief or nurturing with with further seeking of the truth?

Christianity EtcMy Religion My Business by platinumtt(op): 3:59pm On Dec 25, 2016
My Religion My Business
Simply put; Religion is the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. It is more of a personal conviction as individual must learn in one way or the other to align with the order of existence. Some people born into a particular religion do not depart from it while others are converted into other religions. Even not believing in existence of godhead is also by conviction.

As conviction is by personal encounter and experiences which could also be influenced by environment, people and culture. This can also be aided with sharing of knowledge, testimonies and words from the holy books with others. Thus, conviction leads to Faith which is the bedrock of any religion.

But sadly today, religion has turned to a tool in the hands of some people for their selfish gains. What should normally be a source of relief to the entire world has now turned to source of deceit, sorrow and gnashing of teeth. Many religion followers have submitted wholeheartedly to their leaders to teach, lead and direct. Large percentage of these people fail to advance beyond what they are been told by their leaders. And the quest for personal development and search for truth does not exist. They blindly adhere to questionable teachings and hold to doctrines without solid root.

Of a point too hard to comprehend is the basis of forcing one's religion on other. And of what benefit do some people derive in creating agony in the world in the name of religion.Definitely, blowing up gatherings and public centers to prove a point on religion does not bring in more converts. And thus, these dead people do not have the opportunity to discover what benefit in your religion. As religion is a way to liberate one's soul. Your religion should not destroy me and my religion should not destroy you. My religion is my business, likewise yours......

EducationWho Is Your Role Model??? by platinumtt(op): 6:19pm On Dec 22, 2016
Of late, my mind has been a little bothered with happenings around me. It can be unexplained how the world has changed so fast that things held with high esteem suddenly became things of disgust. What previously seemed weird became norms in just a twinkle of an eye.

This can also be clearly seen in how the word "role-model' became bastardized with every jack and harry with no worthy characters becoming celebrities over night. It is not so funny how entertainers with questionable characters do become role models to our aspiring youths. And many thanks to the media for making our world busier by shifting our attention from 'things that matter' to frivolities.

Even we can see a shift in priorities of what matters most at religious centers, places of work and schools.

Now, the system is so engrossed with loss of direction that every individual is been driven by media fantasies. The level of distraction in the world is now at all time high with quest for personal or spiritual development barely existing.

We all would unarguably admit that there is a change in the way we view events in this twenty first century. What then shall we call this? development or retrogression?
