OFFICIAL: GLO ENDS
SPONSORSHIP OF
NIGERIAN PREMIER
LEAGUE
Globacom has been in the
forefront of sport
sponsorship since it
commenced operations in
2003 committing resources to
also support the Nigerian
national teams
The partnership agreement
between next generation
network, Globacom, and the
League Management
Company, in which the
telecommunication outfit
sponsored the Glo Premier
League for over a decade, has
officially ended.
The last sponsorship
agreement which started in
the 2012/2013 league season
ended after the completion of
the 2016 Super Four football
tournament which was held
in both Kaduna and Uyo.
Globacom has been in the
forefront of sport
sponsorship in Nigeria since it
commenced operations in
2003. Over this period, the
company demonstrated its
commitment to the
development of Nigerian
football by committing
enormous resources to
support the Nigerian national
teams, the Nigerian Premier
League and other football
initiatives.
During the period, the
telecoms firm spent over N8
billion to promote the
Nigerian Premier League apart
from the huge sums
committed to sponsorship of
the national teams and other
sports sponsorships in the
last 12 years.
The company has also been
sponsoring the Nigerian
Football Supporters Club since
2003, thereby ensuring that
the club is always at the
venues of tournaments
anywhere in the world to
cheer the league clubs and the
national teams to victory.
With the coming of the
League Management Company
in 2012, Globacom renewed
its sponsorship of the league
worth billions of naira and
supported the new
management who went on to
restructure the league.
Since then, the Glo Premier
League has been on the
ascendancy with many of the
league players participating
actively in national team
assignments.
This is in addition to the
smooth organization of
league matches and
improvement in officiating
which led to the rating of the
league among the top three in
Africa, thus justifying the
vision Globacom declared in
2012 when the last
agreement was signed:
“Our vision is to see a
consistent improvement in the
quality of football played in
the league; we also look
forward to more Nigerians
trooping to the various stadia
across the country to watch
and support their clubs in a
safe and conducive
atmosphere with world-class
facilities.”
The League Management
Company is expected to
unfold a new multi-
sponsorship arrangement
which will see different
companies sponsoring the
league through different
platforms.
It will be recalled that the
English Premier League and its
title sponsor, Barclays, recently
announced the end of their
sponsorship agreement after
fifteen years. The Premier
League will from 2016/2017
season run without a title
sponsor. |

The FC Dordrecht U-14 striker is a
potential Super Eagle but he is
taking it one step at a time as he
hopes to emulate his heroes
Yekini, Amokachi, Okocha and
Adepoju one day
Lateef Omidiji Jr comes highly
recommended. The 12-year-old
US-born striker currently plays
for the Under-14 team of
Netherlands second division side
Dordrecht FC.
However, he already has a place
reserved for him in the Nigeria
U15 side based on first hand
scouting by its coach Danladi
Nasidi.
Coach Nasidi traveled to the US to
watch him play in 2014 and
came out of the experience
knowing he had something on
his hands.
“He has speed, focus, the
technique is so good, the tactical
approach is fine and he has the
physical ability. These things
combine to make a good
footballer,” Nasidi told Goal.
“He’s a small boy and if he comes
to play for Nigeria, it will be good
for Nigeria,” he declared.
Perhaps not every 12-year-old
gets to be spoken so highly of at
his age. Lateef Jr. is currently
leading scoring at his youth side
despite being two years younger
than his teammates and
opponents.
He told Goal that he would like to
represent Nigeria someday like
his heroes Rasheed Yekini, Daniel
Amokachi, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha
and Mutiu Adepoju, players he
grew up watching on home
video tapes with his father and
grandfather.
“Although I have received
interest from USA Football,”
Lateef Jr. told Goal, “my heart lies
with my fatherland and I'm
hopeful of a call up from the
coach Nasidi-led U13s/U15s this
year.”
Coach Nasidi is keenly following
the development of the prodigy,
something he must stay alerted
to as there seems to be a lot of
eyes.
“Many countries are interested in
him, but since I’m monitoring his
activities, I want to make sure we
get hold of him before any other
country,” Nasidi said.
His father also wants him to play
for Nigeria despite the interest
from the United States and its
alluring potentials.
“I love my nation and I put that
love of Nigeria in my kids very
early. I tell them you are not just
American, you're Nigerian-
American,” Mr Omidiji told Goal.
Sophia, Lateef Jr.'s older sister
was called up to the Nigeria U20
Women's team in 2015.
"He has received an invite from
the Nigerian U13/U15 coach
who watched him play and was
impressed with his eye for goal,
speed and technique. He is also
quite strong which is why he has
always played 1-2 years up in
age groups to get challenged,”
he said.
For now, Lateef Jr. continues to
develop his skills in the Dutch
system where he hopes to keep
getting the kind of challenge that
would make him a top player in
future.
“Since coming to the
Netherlands, they have turned
me into a more versatile player
so coming from the United States
as a number 9, they've taught me
how to play 7, 8, 9 and 10 so I
can play four positions,” Lateef Jr.
said.
“Right wing, left wing, center
mid and striker, they call me
speedy here in Holland because
of my speed but what I'm most
proud about is my technical
ability.
“I am proud to be able to
combine my natural Nigerian
style with what I learned in
America and what I'm now
learning in the Netherlands.”

Against the backdrop of the request by Biafra agitators and the organization of Emerging African States (OEAS) for the referendum to be conducted on the independence of Republic of Biafra, the European Union has replied the agitators. Federica Mogherini, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security The Biafra had earlier through OEAS requested that the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, Federica Mogherini, to wade into the need to conduct a referendum for Biafra’s independence. Sahara Reporters reported that the OEAS also called for the release of those it described as Biafran political prisoners and a stay of action by the Nigerian troops, and for quick referendum to be held within 90 days. READ ALSO: Biafra-INEC Boss Rubbishes Biafra? In response to this request, Mogherini told Dr. Jonathan Levy, OEAS chief administrative officer, that while the European Union has strong diplomatic and economic relationship with Nigeria, the “protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms remains a priority for the EU and we encourage the authorities [Nigeria] in every occasion to respect such rights.” The EU further went on to caution the OEAS and Biafran that the push for self-determination and border changes must be carried out within the ambits of established international law. It added that Biafra can only be recognized through international law and not through armed secession. The OEAS had been pushing for an internationally recognized referendum on Biafra independence or autonomy. READ ALSO: Pro-Biafra Supporters Protest In Delta In the same vein, OEAS advised that all nonviolent means should be utilized including general strikes, economic boycotts, work actions, demonstrations, lawsuits, and civil disobedience. Nigeria is a member of The International Labor Organization (ILO). The ILO recognizes the right to engage in general strikes and the right to strike is also recognized in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of 1966 (Article 8(1)(d)). Below is a copy of the letter: Meanwhile, former president Olusegun Obasanjo had continued to hit hard on Biafra agitators lashing out on pro- Biafra movement describing it as dead agitation which was borne out of sheer ignorance and error of judgment . He added that those involved in the current agitation in support of Biafra were embarking on a hopeless and futile exercise, which no serious-minded Nigerian should ever become a part of. https://www.naij.com/701259-biafra-agitation-eu-high-representative-gives-condition-independence.html |
A prosecution witness has told a stunned federal high court about how his account was credited with N546.8million by an official of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). Chukwuemeka Benjamin Onuoha, a fashion designer, made the shocking revelation during the theft trial of former NIMASA boss Patrick Akpobolokemi. Onuoha, while being led in evidence by the EFCC prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo, said his company, Extreme Vertevex Limited, was used to siphon over N546,802,000 million from the coffers of NIMASA for a contract that was neither awarded to or executed by him. Akpobolokemi was arraigned before Justice Ibrahim Buba along with Captain Ezekiel Agaba, Ekene Nwakuche, Governor Juan – and three companies, namely Blockz and Stonz Limited, Kenzo Logistics Limited and Al-Kenzo Logistic Limited. READ ALSO: UK Diplomat Says Ibori Loot Will Remain In Britain For Now In a twenty-two count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), they were accused of illegally converting a total of N2,658,957,666 between December 23, 2013 and May 28 this year. The accused all pled not guilty to all the counts. Patrick Akpobolokemi Onuoha told the court that N546,802,000 million was paid into his account with Zenith bank even though he did not tender any before NIMASA, or even carried out a contract. He told the court that the disbursement of the money was facilitated by Ekene Nwakuche who was his secondary school mate. He described how he received the money in 2013 when Nwakuche was employed by NIMASA, who approached him and asked him if there was any contract he could implement. Shortly after he made the request, Nwakuche called to ask if he had a registered company that could be used for transactions, as well as the company’s accounts. READ ALSO: PDP Lashes Out At Buhari’s Government Onuoha said that not long after he supplied details of his bank account to Nwakuche that, he received several alerts from his bank totaling N546,802,000 million. On August 2014 he received N21, 802, 000, on November 6, 2014 he received N318 million, and on November 25, 2014 he received N207 million. Onuoha told the court that he was later instructed to transfer the money to different accounts by Nwakuche. Under cross-examination, Onuoha told the court that he had never met Akpobolokemi or received any instruction from him. https://www.naij.com/701853-read-shocking-confession-man-bribed-n546-million-nimasa.html |

THE BITTER TRUTH.
Ask 100 Nigerian youths Who's
Minister of Youths You will
get no result. Ask them What are
the agenda to develop a
country?
How could Nigeria come out of
the
National Economy crisis and
other social and infrastructural
problems?
Many would tell you "I'm not
interested in all that, ask
politicians".
In fact these are people who
find it difficult to attain 2"1
grade in University. Yet All social
media have been bombarded
with the "Societal Problems"
called Artistes; Olamide and Don-
Jazzy feud...
These are people who have
contributed
to the vices of young Nigerians,
by uneducated distractions.
What message has Olamide, Lil
Kesh,
and the likes passed to
Nigerians?
This is not religious perspective
at all,
it's a thing of common sense. In
the
pursuit of Westernization, called
Civilization, these guys have
negatively influenced the lifes of
kids. Unfortunately, these are
the same people the last
Administration "dashed" N1bn,
and one of them who got a
child out of wedlock was
honoured by a Governor who
paid a visit, with cash.
Headies, different Idols, plus
other
awarding bodies are also the
pathogenic viruses who
encourage the spread of
immoralities.
Yet No one is ready to curb this
nonsense.. If DonJazzy and
Olamide should fight, is that
more important than our
soldiers having sleepless nights
and days in Sambisa Forest
defending all of us. How can
Davido's or Wizkids' award
affect our next and subsequent
generations positively
The National status does not
even bother the youths, the
President just confessed; he
knows Nigerians are in pains,
are we really in pains?, when
poor men that find it tough to
pay for internet services, fight
for the Billionaire Advocates of
immorality, who don't even care
about your family.
It seems many youths are
injected and
been demoralised. Until they
hear the news of looters looting
$20b, they would start wailing,
cursing, nagging, dominating
and. reacting. Such will continue
happening, ''cause many of us
devoted time for Olamide and
DonJazzy.
Just stroll to Ahmadu Bello way,
Kano
and tell me what you see in
Marvin's
house. These guys have made it
out of their promotion of
immorality. We really need to
think, wise up and rise up. Of
recent;
A student of OAU (Segun
Oyeyilola,
electrical engineering) recently
designed a solar driven car;
Another LAUTECH student also
has just designed a flying Jet, no
one cares to know about the
stories, let alone think of
promoting the good course.
Many Talents are being
sacrificed for
Street touts, school drop outs,
who
exploited your brain to make it.
"I want to do Zina (Shina)
todaaaay",
"Shakiti bobo, were lo ba de",
"Ki n Maa Jedi, ki n maa ladi,
Iranu
Abasha"
"Dorobucci.." etc, are winning
awards
and you are carried away, while
Highest GPA wins a laptop...
And you fail to agree with Prof.
Wole
Soyinka that this Generation is
dead on arrival?
Nay! we need to wise up Naija
Youths.
Alinson Madueke would easily
use our
Commonwealth to pay Olamide
plus
DonJazzy to play at her
daughter's
wedding, while we continue
buying a litre of PMS at N200. At
least we are not blind to see all
these guys at Political rallies and
campaigns of
politicians. We are in a secular
state, no one disputes that, but
have we lost our common
sense
I don't have problem with these
guys, but we are just blind and
deaf to the lyrics and the way of
life they promote?
An artiste sang a song
# VoteNotFight or #
VoteNotWar,
another sang #One Nigeria
amongst
others, no one nominates them
for any
award. why? the songs did not
"hit" or
"rock".. lol. something is wrong
with Africans' brains.
Recently, we(youths) are
reposting a
message that the likes of
Abacha, Buhari, Obasanjo e.t.c
started ruling Nigeria from their
late twenties.
And that we also want/need to
be given opportunity to rule.
Gaskiya! We are not ready; a
generation that celebrates
noise! We need to get things
right before it will be too late.
.
.
.
.Think and Wise Up.
Long live Nigeria!
Long live Nigerians!

The Movement for the
Actualization of the Sovereign
State of Biafra (MASSOB) on
Friday, January 15, issued the
federal government an
ultimatum demanding the
release of the director of Radio
Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, no later
than Monday, January 18.
According to a statement by
Samuel Edeson, MASSOB director
of information, and Ibem
Ugwuoke Ibem, MASSOB national
secretary, the organization
threatened to organize protests
and massive demonstrations
across the south-east and south-
south as well as in America,
Europe and Asia.
The group reminded that Kanu
was being remained in detention
even after the Federal High Court,
Abuja, ordered his unconditional
release.
The MASSOB, however,
maintained that their protests
would be non-violent. “Our
members at home and in
diaspora are prepared for a
massive demonstration, protest
and a civil disobedience against
the continued detention of
Nnamdi Kanu (IPOB Leader)
starting from Monday, January
18, 2016,” the statement says.
“MASSOB also directs former
members in Ralph Uwazurike’s
BIM to join and participate in the
non violent world wide
demonstration against Nnamdi
Kanu’s continued detention as a
mark of Love and respect for
Biafra,” it further says.
The organisation also used the
opportunity to condemn the
statement credited to the
Anglican Arch-Bishop of Enugu
Province, Most Rev. Emmanuel
Chukwuma, to the effect that
their agitation for actualisation
of a Biafra Republic was
“misguided and misdirected”.
The group insisted that their
agitation was borne out of a
genuine desire by the Igbos to
have a country of their own.

Christianity who accused pastor
Pastor E.A. Adeboye of being an

She also came for Popular

blogger took part the “Dasuki

This time around, Olamide is at
the receiving end of her
