Abuja – Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on Wednesday, described all Nigerians as corrupt. According to him, corruption goes beyond stealing or embezzlement of public funds and includes attitudinal indiscipline. He said corruption embraced the inability of people to restraint themselves from taking what does not belong to them which, he said, every Nigerian, one way or another, was guilty of. He made the comment when he was accosted by journalists at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abuja, where he responded to questions on the last visit of the Governors’ Forum to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa. Hear him: “We are looking at corruption in a global concept as against just taking money and, if you look at it generally, you will see that virtually Nigeria is very corrupt, virtually everybody, one way or the other, is corrupt either attitudinally, financially or socially and this, we believe, should be looked into. “You see, we believe corruption is more than just taking money; I think it is attitudinal. It is anytime you do anything you are not supposed to do, that is corruption. “And sometimes you can even enlarge it to mean, basically, indiscipline; inability to control yourself, to discipline yourself against the selfish tendencies of wanting to take what does not belong to you. “Even not doing your job is corruption, for taking salaries monthly and not coming to work, and coming to work and being idle is corruption.” . Ajimobi noted that the current economic crunch in Nigeria is not peculiar to the nation alone, but was a global issue and, thus, urged Nigerians not to panic. “I think all over the world, there have been what you call technical recession,” he added. This situation, he said, had affected government’s ability to meet her obligations like payment of salaries, contractual agreements, projects execution, among other issues. The situation, he said, affected his state where, he said, his monthly commitments to governance outweigh the resources that had been coming into the purse of the state. “Oyo State has an average of about N5.2billion monthly wage bill and I think our total income from the Federal Government Allocation is about N2.2billion from the Federal Government and there is no way we could meet our monthly wage bill.” He said despite the harsh economic situation, the Federal Government, Oyo State government and, indeed, the government of APC, had agreed not to retrench any worker but would restructure to redirect the staff strength to be more effective. He said: “In other climes, you should adjust your income and adjust your labour force, if you can’t pay everybody; then you should reduce them or you should reduce salaries, but because we are a government that believes in generating and creating employment we refused to do the most appropriate thing to do, so we now decided, instead of retrenching, to restructure. http://independentnig.com/2016/08/04/all-nigerians-are-corrupt-ajimobi/ |

The chances of one of the candidates for the September 10 governorship poll in Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, were enhanced on Tuesday when he got the support of the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in ward 11, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state, Chief Sunday Edehor. Edehor dropped the umbrella for the broom, along with his supporters. Obaseki is candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). During the party’s governorship campaign rally in the area, Edehor said he decided to join the APC because he did not want to be stoned by his people for exhibiting ingratitude following what the people of the area have benefited from the APC-led government. Edehor is from the same ward as Mr Philip Shuaibu, the running mate to the APC governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki. Said he: “I have been in PDP since its formative stage in 1998 and today I had to decamp to APC. This is the first time somebody from Jattu will be a deputy governor which has never happened since I was born. “I am glad that Philip Shuaibu, our son, is going to be deputy governor and I know Obaseki will win. “The truth is that I found out that some of us have been deceiving ourselves in PDP for a long time. “Come to think of it, this is the first time Etsako man will be governor in the person of Oshiomhole and now the same APC is giving us deputy governor; so, how do you expect us to remain in PDP? “It is not possible. We have been managing over the years abusing Oshiomhole despite the fact that he is our son, because we were in PDP, but it has come to a stage when we have to decide to think about what is good for our people. “PDP, since 1999, never gave Edo North governorship not to think of giving to Etsako. One leader is always moving it to wherever he feels while our people suffer here. “Just take a drive around Etsako area, you will see the roads, schools Oshiomhole built for us; so, don’t you think our people will stone some of us if we continue to remain in PDP? “I don’t want to risk my life because they will say I am an enemy of progress. “People will ask me, what else am I looking for in PDP; God gave us a governor in the person of Oshiomhole and now APC gave Etsako deputy governorship ticket in the person of Philip Shuaibu. “So, I will be a mad man to remain in PDP. And let me tell you, there is no more PDP in the entire three local governments in Etsako. “It will not make sense to remain at all, because both the people and God will even punish us, so that is why we decided to leave for APC. “It makes more sense for us to join APC so that the developmental projects Oshiomhole has started in Etsako land will continue. “People are supposed to play politics for good life, development and not selfish interest. I will be considered a selfish man if I remain in PDP.” https://www.today.ng/politics/161817/edo-guber-pdp-members-obaseki-etsako

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, is leading other Governors in the poll organised by the African Leadership Magazine to determine Nigeria’s top performing Governor. The poll, tagged: “Good Governance Polls for Nigeria’s Top Performing Governor,” started two weeks ago with Governor Ambode maintaining the lead. So far, he has scored 36.1 per cent of the total vote casts. The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, is trailing Governor Ambode with 25 per cent of the total votes cast. The poll, according to its organisers, was designed by the group as part of its strategic engagement tool to monitor performance and gauge the mood of the electorate in Nigeria in line with its objective of providing credible information and support to leaders in Nigeria and Africa at large. An overwhelming 35 per cent popularity rating for Governor Ambode, among other governors, clearly shows his popularity as he continues to deliver good governance, promoting infrastructural development and people-centred policies that better the lives of the people of Lagos. The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, is in the third place with 8.8 per cent, while Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, is in the fourth position with 7.9 per cent of the total vote casts. The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, sits in the fifth position with 5 per cent, while as at press time, voting is still ongoing and is expected to close in the next four days. https://www.today.ng/news/national/160630/ambode-emerges-best-performing-governor

A man who threatened another with death was almost lynched bped and died few hours later. The death of a 22-year-old fashion designer, Lukmon Shotunde, in the Alagbado area of Lagos State, just a few hours after he had a quarrel with a friend who threatened he would not live to see the next day, caused chaos and pandemonium in the area with an angry crowd descending on the suspect and almost lynched him. It was gathered that the deceased slumped and died » on Sunday, July 31, 2016, on Orobiyi Street, in the area, prompting youths in the community who heard that the suspect, Taofeek Sodiq , had earlier threatened him, mobilized and went after the suspect and were about setting him on fire before policemen from the Alagbado Division arrived and rescued him. Eyewitnesses say the cause of the altercation was when Sodiq had sent his 10-year-old son on an errand with the sum of N500 but the boy was allegedly defrauded by a man who sat in the front of Shotunde’s locked shop. When the boy went back home and reported the incident to his father, Sodiq allegedly went to Shotunde and accused him of conniving with the fraudster to collect the money from his son and in the heat of the argument, Sodiq allegedly told the deceased: “You will not live to open your shop tomorrow, if my money is not returned.” The residents of the area were thrown into shock when Shotunde slumped » and died as predicted by Sodiq. A resident who identified himself as Owolabi Daod, explained that Shotunde slumped and died within three hours of the threat by Sodiq: “Around 10am on Sunday, a man sat in the front of Lukmon’s shop. Another man, who lives in the community, sent his 10-year-old son on an errand with N500. But the man in the front of Lukmon’s shop called the boy and asked him to bring the N500 that he would double it for him. The boy foolishly gave him the money and the man absconded. A resident, who saw the boy sitting in front of the shop, asked him what he was waiting for. It was at that point the boy knew he had been scammed. Upon learning of the story, Sodiq came out with a friend and said if he didn’t get his money back, Lukmon will not live to open his shop the next day, despite Lukmon's denial that he did not even know the man. We thought it was all over but Lukmon was walking back to his shop when he suddenly collapsed. We rushed him to a private hospital where he was confirmed dead,” Daod said. Another resident said that the residents who gathered at the suspect’s house and dragged him out and were said to have beaten him and were about lynching him when the matter was reported at the police station. “The police prevented the jungle justice. A police team had to stay in the community for more than six hours.” http://pulse.ng/gist/power-in-the-tongue-after-threats-of-death-fashion-designer-slump-dies-id5332975.html |
The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has sounded an alarm of plot to assassinate its candidate in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District rerun election, Senator Magnus Abe. APC made the allegation after PDP had in a statement on Sunday called for the removal of Abe’s police aides in line with the subsisting order withdrawing all police attachment to private individuals and politicians. Responding to the call, APC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Chris Finebone, asked whether the call for the removal of Abe’s security detail does not suggest a plot to murder the politician. The statement reads in part, “The APC is compelled to ask a number of questions following this recent display of unbridled obsession with Senator Abe’s personal security details. “Have Felix Obuah and the PDP gone into selective amnesia so soon by not recalling that not long ago, Nyesom Wike, as Minister of State for Education, strutted around the state with more soldiers and Special Forces personnel than the then governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi?” “Could the scrutiny of Senator Abe’s personal protection security details and arrangements be part of a grand plot to assassinate him as being rumoured since he cannot be stopped as directed by the governor? “Assuming without conceding that Senator Abe has the security personnel the PDP stated, what is the real or imaginary reasons behind such a meticulous and painstaking study of an individual’s personal security architecture by Felix Obuah and the PDP?” http://dailypost.ng/2016/08/02/rivers-rerun-pdp-planning-assassinate-candidate-sen-magnus-abe-apc/

He moved out of our house three months ago and came back on Sunday (July 24) at around 8.30pm. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the International Police (INTERPOL) yesterday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, smashed a global network online swindle syndicate and arrested its ringleader. The syndicate was said to have duped victims of $60 million. The suspect, Mike Onyenwe, may face trial with another 38-year old suspect, who has also been picked up. Out of the cash, a victim was duped of $15.4million in an operation The 40-year old suspect had been coordinating a network of at least 40 individuals across Nigeria, Malaysia and South Africa. The 41-man syndicate had conned unsuspecting victims in Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Romania, South Africa, Thailand and the United States. The group was said to have specialised in what is called ‘CEO fraud’. A joint statement by the EFCC and INTERPOL in Abuja said the ringleader was arrested in Port Harcourt. The statement reads: “The head of an international criminal network behind thousands of online frauds has been arrested in a joint operation by INTERPOL and the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). “The 40-year-old Nigerian national, known as ‘Mike’, is believed to be behind scams totaling more than $60 million involving hundreds of victims worldwide. In one case a target was conned into paying out $15.4 million. “The network compromised email accounts of small to medium businesses around the world including Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Romania, South Africa, Thailand and the US, with the financial victims mainly other companies dealing with these compromised accounts. “Heading a network of at least 40 individuals across Nigeria, Malaysia and South Africa which both provided malware and carried out the frauds, the alleged mastermind also had money laundering contacts in China, Europe and the US who provided bank account details for the illicit cash flow. “Following his arrest in Port Harcourt, a forensic examination of devices seized by the EFCC showed he had been involved in a range of criminal activities including Business E-mail Compromise (BEC) and romance scams. “The main two types of scam run by the 40-year-old targeted businesses were payment diversion fraud – where a supplier’s email would be compromised and fake messages would then be sent to the buyer with instructions for payment to a bank account under the criminal’s control – and ‘CEO fraud’. “In CEO fraud, the email account of a high-level executive is compromised and a request for a wire transfer is sent to another employee who has been identified as responsible for handling these requests. The money is then paid into a designated bank account held by the criminal.” The statement gave insights into how the EFCC and INTERPOL had been on the trail of ‘Mike’. “Mike first came onto the law enforcement radar through a report provided to INTERPOL by Trend Micro, one of its strategic partners at the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore. “This, combined with actionable analysis and intelligence from Fortinet Fortiguard Labs in 2015, enabled specialists at the INTERPOL Digital Crime Centre, including experts from Cyber Defense Institute based at the IGCI, and the EFCC to locate the suspect in Nigeria, resulting in his arrest in June. “Abdul Chukkol, Head of the EFCC’s Cybercrime Section said the transnational nature of business e-mail compromise made it complex to crack. He said the arrest “sent a clear signal that Nigeria could not be considered a safe haven for criminals.” He added: “For a long time we have said in order to be effective, the fight against cybercrime must rely on public-private partnerships and international cooperation. “The success of this operation is the result of close cooperation between INTERPOL and the EFCC, whose understanding of the Nigerian environment made it possible to disrupt the criminal organization’s network traversing many countries, targeting individuals and companies” The Executive Director of the IGC, Noboru Nakatani, warned that BEC poses a significant and growing threat, with tens of thousands of companies victimized in recent years. Nakatani said: “The public, and especially businesses, need to be alert to this type of cyber-enabled fraud,” “Basic security protocols such as two-factor authentication and verification by other means before making a money transfer are essential to reduce the risk of falling victim to these scams. “It is exactly through this type of public and private sector cooperation that INTERPOL will continue to help member countries in bringing cybercriminals to justice no matter where they are.” The statement said” the 40-year-old, along with a 38-year-old also arrested by Nigerian authorities, faces charges including hacking, conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences. “Both are currently on administrative bail as the investigation continues.” http://thenationonlineng.net/efcc-interpol-smash-gang-60m-scam/ |
A militant group known as Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, NDRC, has accused northerners of allegedly plotting to Islamise and enslave the people of the Niger Delta region. NDRC, in a statement by its spokesman, W O I Izon-Ebi, on Monday, alleged that the plot to islamise the oil-rich region is to be carried out in phases. Pointing out the phases, NDRC said, “Their first step is to use few of our greedy political elites. The second plan is to frame distinguished leaders with frivolous charges. The third one is to incite crisis for the military to come into the Niger Delta with the sole purpose to kill all the vibrant and brave youths of the region that are mouth piece and leaders of tomorrow.” The militant group also claimed that to further “expose the Islamic agenda of the Northerners to own our oil and enslave us, they have gone further to absorb more than 250,000 civilian JTF into the Nigerian Army and even boasting to absorb more into the military and paramilitary force.” It continued, “As if that is not enough, they are offering the Boko Haram Amnesty with the sole aim to invade the Niger Delta in the name of fighting militants. The drafting of Special Forces to the Niger Delta is not a threat to the people Niger Delta, because before this time we have known the Islamisation plot of recruiting Saudi Mercenaries, absorbing civilian JTF, and recruiting of Boko Haram members to form a special force to invade the Niger Delta. “Niger Deltans have suffered in the hands of the Nigerian government through their divide and rule tactics and few criminal minded elites to impoverish the people. This is why from 1957 when oil was discovered in commercial quantity in Oloibiri till date, there is nothing to show as an oil producing region. All we see is suffering, hunger, poverty, gas flaring, and degradation. “Now, their ploy is to cause disunity in the Niger Delta in order to go on with their exploration and exploitation. All what we see now in the Niger delta is disunity, witch-hunting, tribal sentiment, poverty, which they are using in order to achieve their purpose. These things are done deliberately to disorganize the people of the Niger Delta to enable them continue with oil exploration. Get Bigger Manhood and Last 25minutes During Sex using this Safe, Natural solution. Click Here! “Even in political appointments, they try to use it to create disunity among the people. Example, in the NDDC, if truly they meant well for the region, there will not be any need for agitation, an Isoko man is from Delta state, why are the Itsekiri people protesting, in Ondo, the same thing, Akwa Ibom the same thing, Abia the same thing. “They are now using our resources to acquire weapons and fighters to enslave us in this 21st century. We are very sad with our brothers that use Niger Delta struggle to enrich themselves and at the same time being used by the northerners to achieve their aim of exploiting the oil. “They feel that they have settled some few charlatans and criminals that call themselves ex-militants, using them to hijack the struggle that our distinguished sons and fathers stood for. Isaac Adaka Boro never took sides against his people or enriched himself, Ken Saro-Wiwa laid his life for this same course, Government Epkomupolo aka Tompolo, the prince of Ijaw deity (Egbesu), initiated the one and only Nigerian Maritime University, NMU.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/08/01/militant-group-accuses-northerners-plotting-islamize-niger-delta-oil/# |
The President of the Nigerian Union in South Africa, Ikechukwu Anyene, has confirmed that two Nigerians were killed in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province. Anyene told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Port Harcourt in a telephone interview from Pretoria that the two men were killed on Friday, July 29, at different areas of Johannesburg. He said that the first victim, Gideon Ogalaonye, an indigene of Onitsha, Anambra, was allegedly shot dead at 7 p.m. while on a visit to the residence of his daughters. He said that the second victim, Nnamdi Michael, an indigene of Enugu state, was allegedly stabbed to death by a Zimbabwean national at Yeoville at 8 p.m on the same day. Anyene said witnesses said the assailant first demanded money from Michael, which was not given and later attempted to forcefully remove his phone. He said the assailant stabbed the victim, adding that Nigerians at the scene pursued and arrested him. Anyene said: “The Zimbabwean has been handed over to the police and we will follow the case. “The two incidents have been reported to the Nigerian mission in South Africa and the South African police. “The Nigerian community in South Africa are not happy with the killings. “We urge the Federal government to persuade its South African counterpart to investigate and prosecute incidents of killings of Nigerians in that country. “We are getting worried about these incessant killings and we want the culprits prosecuted.” NAN recalls that Ikejiaku Chinedu, a 35 year-old Nigerian businessman, was killed on July 26 at Mokopane town, Limpopo Province by operatives of a private security firm. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/again-nigerians-killed-in-south-africa/ |

CHELSEA’S MIKEL DENIES DONATING $30,000 TO NIGERIA OLYMPIC SQUAD By Shina Oludare The midfielder has dismissed claims that he gave out a certain amount of money to the Dream Team VI John Obi Mikel has disproved reports that he donated the sum of 30,000 dollars to the Nigeria U23 team camping in the United States of America. Mikel, who is one of the two overage players in Samson Siasia’s squad for Rio Olympics was reported to have given the Dream Team VI that amount to alleviate their sufferings owing to neglect from the Nigeria Football Federation. But the Chelsea star has refuted the news saying it was a tactic to divide the team. "I was first told of this unfortunate story by a friend who called me from Nigeria. I thought he was joking until he sent me the link,” Mikel told the NFF. "I don't know the source of this story which to me is all out to divide us as a team. I would have thought that stories that should be coming out in the media are stories that will unite the team instead of dividing us. Our target in Rio is to excel, but if they continue like this, then I wonder how we can be united. "Tell me the players who are in this team that are so hungry that will be looking up to me for survival? Is it (William) Ekong, (Oghenekaro) Etebo, (Shehu) Abdulahi, (Daniel) Akpeyi, (Kingsley) Madu, (Okechukwu) Azubuike or (Stanley) Amuzie, who are my team –mates in the Super Eagles, that I will be donating to, or other players who are plying their trade abroad and are doing well for themselves? “To me, this is just mere distraction that won't help this team going into a major tournament like the Olympics,” he concluded. Nigeria face Japan on August 4 at the Amazônia Arena Manaus in their opening game of the competition as they gun for a second Olympic football gold medal. |
