Eboue says Nigeria is no match for Cote d’ Ivoire. Galatasary of Turkey and Cote d’ Ivoire defender, Emmanuel Eboue, is waxing lyrical on micro blogging social media site – twitter- asserting that the Super Eagles are no match for the Elephants of Cote d’Ivorie . The West African football power houses are billed to face each other in one of the quarter final pairings of the South Africa 2013 Nations Cup; but the former Arsenal man through the twitter handle @TheRealEboue says it’s a no contest for the Eagles. “Congrat to Nigeria. Don’t celebrate too much cuz we are coming for you. We are going to eat you like fufu” the first of his many tweets attacking the Super Eagles and Nigeria,” Eboue stated after the Eagles qualified for the quarterfinals courtesy of a 2-0 win over Ethiopia Minutes later the Ivorian defender tweeted “Sorry guys, point of correction. We are going to eat Nigeria like #SuperFriedChickens.” From then on, it has been an unending tweet tirade on not just the Eagles as a team but Nigeria in its entirety; a situation that has seen some twitter users arguing that Eboue is being impersonated. “I see ppl saying I hv pride by saying we wud eat Nigeria like fried chickens, it’s not pride guys, it’s hardwork & passion 4 my country,” another tweet read from the handle supposedly for the Ivorian defender. The tweets continued: “@TheRealEboue: In Nigeria team, some of your best strikers like martins, yakubu & odewinge are not in the team. Why? No peace, passion, & humility” “@TheRealEboue: Ivory has some of the top players in d world, and when our country calls. We go. We go back home and play. Nobody is a big boy. So shut it” “@TheRealEboue: Ivory has some of the top players in d world, and when our country calls. We go. We go back home and play. Nobody is a big boy. So shut it” “@TheRealEboue: A country where mikel obi is your best player & captain . Out of 150million people. You sure have a problem super chickens” “@TheRealEboue: With all due respect 2 mikel, he is a good player but not Okocha,Samson, yekini,Oliseh, adepoju. Your football association is a joke” “@TheRealEboue: When keshi was in Togo, he dropped adebayor. He is in Nigeria and drops the best player. He is a manger he shud be able to work on their ego” “@TheRealEboue: Drogba, Yaya, kolo, Zakora, gervinho,KaLou, and myself and all other players. We are all the same. One unity and family. Country comes 1st” “@TheRealEboue: Oh sorry Nigeria, I even heard your country owns the first African television and you cannot even televise the game to the masses” “@TheRealEboue: You guys are jokers. Your institutions are comedy clubs. You have so many resources & man power yet you are always falling short.” “@TheRealEboue: Keep fooling yourself and calling yourselfs the giant of africa. You are nothing but the soil of Africa we all work on now.” “@TheRealEboue: If we don’t beat you in the game, it means you are lucky. But trust me, we are going to deal with you so much , you would be eating grass” “@TheRealEboue: I have said enough on this matter. I was so angry. Speak to me when your national television can broadcast the game. Have a good day” the long tweets finally halted. http://premiumtimesng.com/sports/117988-ivorian-defender-rips-eagles-apart-on-twitter.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=ivorian-defender-rips-eagles-apart-on-twitter

A student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is gearing up for her marriage to a cardboard cutout of Twilight star and teenager heartthrob, Robert Pattinson. Lauren Adkins will wed the cut-out version of the movie's vampire character Edward Cullen on January 26, 2013, and is currently picking out a wedding dress, she told the Las Vegas review Journal. The 24-year-old, who is actually staging the wedding as her thesis project for her master's degree, explained: 'Edward Cullen is really tied to the idea of Vegas for me. The fantasy behind it can never be achieved. It's the ultimate facade.' The student even has an engagement ring, and is also planning a bachelorette party, a cake, and admitted there will be photographs and a wedding reception, just like there would be at any normal wedding. She said: 'I've just been trying to figure out the psyche behind it.' One of Miss Adkins' friends, Jordan Reynolds, who graduated from UNLV last year, said the bride-to-be isn't just an obsessed fan 'with no life'.

An Indian man has spent nine months living in a TREE because his wife refuses to say sorry for cheating on him. The man, known only as Sanjay, walked in on his partner and a next-door neighbour in their Mumbai home. And when she refused to apologise he climbed a nearby guava tree and has been there ever since. The 25-year-old has survived on a diet of fruit from the tree and food handed up by relatives. "He eats and sleeps on the tree and even relieves himself from there," his sister told The Asian Age newspaper. Police have said they can't intervene because he hasn't committed an offence. A spokesman for Cholapur police confirmed: "The man is on a tree top for the last nine months over some domestic dispute." Sanjay's wife has since returned to live with her parents - and has still not said sorry. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/man-spends-nine-months-living-1497342

My Dear Compatriots, 1. I extend warm greetings and felicitations to you all as we celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival. 2. I also congratulate all Nigerians who successfully undertook the Hajj this year despite the unforeseen difficulties which developed over the issue of male companions for some of our female pilgrims. 3. Although the problem was eventually resolved with the positive intervention of the Federal Government, I have ordered a thorough post mortem of the incident with a view to ensuring that our Hajj airlift operations are never disrupted by such problems in future and that no Nigerian pilgrim is ever subjected to such traumatic experience in the Holy Land again. 4. Nigerians remain a people of great faith with the vast majority of our people professing belief in God either as Muslims or Christians. 5. I believe therefore that we should all seize the opportunity of the Sallah season and the public holidays to reflect on how we can bring the ideals and virtues of our religious beliefs to bear on the positive resolution of the many challenges facing us as a nation. 6. There can be no doubt that we will make faster progress towards the attainment of developmental objectives as a nation if we all resolve to do more to live up to the highest ideals of our religious beliefs including the fear of God, willingness to make personal sacrifices for the collective good, selfless service, respect for laws and constituted authorities, honesty, justice, equity, fairness, dutifulness, peace and harmonious co-existence with others. 7. My administration will continue to give dedicated, committed, focused and purposeful leadership towards overcoming old and emerging challenges before the nation. 8. While our doors remain open for constructive engagement and dialogue with all Nigerians, we shall continue to aggressively implement all measures deemed necessary for the restoration and maintenance of peace in all parts of the country. 9. As we celebrate the Eid-El-Kabir, let us all remember the plight of the many thousands of our compatriots who have been displaced by the floods which recently devastated many communities across the nation and resolve to contribute whatever we can to ameliorate their suffering. 10. I have already announced a relief package of close to N18 billion and constituted a national committee to raise more funds to help victims of the floods. 11. In the true spirit of our major religions which enjoin us to be generous to the needy, I urge all Nigerians who can do so, to donate munificently to the national relief fund for affected persons and communities. 12. We will monitor the disbursement and utilization of the funds released by the Federal Government and those raised by the National Committee very closely to ensure that they are judiciously and expeditiously expended for the benefit of the flood victims. 13. May God bless and reward all who help the flood victims. 14. I wish all Nigerians who undertook the Hajj a safe journey back home. 15. Happy Sallah to all Nigerians. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR President, Federal Republic of Nigeria |
The Nigerian flag systematically went up to the rooftop of the Birchwood Hotel and Conference centre in Boksburg, Johannesburg, South Africa, last week, when some Nigerian secondary school students drawn from Rivers, Benue and Akwa Ibom held their own and won four awards at the Eskom Expo for Young scientists. The projects that won the awards for the Nigerian students, competed against over 600 projects by students from South Africa and other African countries. The students were sponsored by renowned technology company, Intel, as part of its efforts to improve interest in science education and technology. Calvary Arrows Secondary School, Gboko won a special award for innovation and novelty in Engineering. This school located in a rural community developed a multi-powered lawn mower that can be powered by electricity, batteries or solar energy. They smiled home with two thousand Rand prize money. This is aside another silver medal in the mechanical, aeronautic and Industrial Engineering category. Niger Delta Science College Port Harcourt won a bronze medal for their investigation on an automatic multi-phase selector with a generating plant while Community Secondary School Aka Ufot in Akwa Ibom state won another bronze medal for their work in producing plastic materials from simple cassava extracts. Corporate Affairs manager of Intel, Osagie Ogunbor reacting to the feats, said that the performances of the students validate the relentless nature of the Nigerian spirit in the face of daunting infrastructural challenges especially in the Educational sector. He said that besides flying Nigeria’s flag high in foreign land, the students had also done Intel Nigeria proud for its investment not only in sponsoring them to the fair but also organizing the annual National science fair for all secondary school students in partnership with Shell Petroleum Development Company. The Eskom Expo for young scientists is over 30 years old and about the biggest science fair for secondary schools in South Africa. Intel International also has a Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which holds annually in the United States. |

Oluigboka Chukwuemeka Emmanuel thought he had cleverly concealed about 2.4 kilogrammes of cocaine in pendants and female belts. But his luck ran out when he was intercepted by Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement officials The 33-year old suspect had just disembarked from a flight from Brazil when he was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed international airport in Lagos, southwest Nigeria. “During search, powdery substances that tested positive for cocaine were found in his bag. It took several hours to extract the cocaine from the pendants because of the complex method of concealment,” said Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA Head of Public Affairs. The agency’s airport commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, disclosed that the drug was factory packed inside assorted pendants. He described the mode of concealment as unusual. “This mode of concealment is strange and it is the first time of discovering drugs inside jewellery,” he said. Umar explained that the drugs were industrially packed in ear rings, buttons, necklaces, bangles as well as in female belts. “We had to forcefully open them to recover the drugs. The entire quantity of cocaine found in the jewellery products weighed 2.472kg. One arrest has been made in connection with the seizure,” Umar said. NDLEA said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, who had lived in Brazil for over five years, is believed to be working for a suspected Brazilian-based drug syndicate. The suspect was quoted as saying, “I needed money for the burial anniversary of my late father. As the breadwinner, everybody is looking up to me for the sponsorship of the anniversary. I have lived in Brazil for over five years but I have no money to undertake this important family responsibility. My interest was the 2,000 euros they promised to pay me”. Oluigboka is married and has a child. He hails from Imo State. The arrest took place last week Source; PM news |
He will have to learn, I know, that all men are not just, all men are not true. But teach him also that for every scoundrel there is a hero; that for every selfish Politician, there is a dedicated leader... Teach him for every enemy there is a friend, Steer him away from envy, if you can, teach him the secret of quiet laughter. Let him learn early that the bullies are the easiest to lick... Teach him, if you can, the wonder of books... But also give him quiet time to ponder the eternal mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun, and the flowers on a green hillside. In the school teach him it is far honourable to fail than to cheat... Teach him to have faith in his own ideas, even if everyone tells him they are wrong... Teach him to be gentle with gentle people, and tough with the tough. Try to give my son the strength not to follow the crowd when everyone is getting on the band wagon... Teach him to listen to all men... but teach him also to filter all he hears on a screen of truth, and take only the good that comes through. Teach him if you can, how to laugh when he is sad... Teach him there is no shame in tears, Teach him to scoff at cynics and to beware of too much sweetness... Teach him to sell his brawn and brain to the highest bidders but never to put a price-tag on his heart and soul. Teach him to close his ears to a howling mob and to stand and fight if he thinks he's right. Treat him gently, but do not cuddle him, because only the test of fire makes fine steel. Let him have the courage to be impatient... let him have the patience to be brave. Teach him always to have sublime faith in himself, because then he will have sublime faith in mankind. This is a big order, but see what you can do... He is such a fine fellow, my son! |

DESPITE opposition from certain quarters to the plan by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to introduce N5,000 note, as well as some denominations of coins, the Economic Management Team (EMT) on Tuesday endorsed the move, dismissing fears that it would lead to inflation. Minister of National Planning, Dr Shamsudeen Usman, revealed this to State House correspondents in Abuja after a meeting of the Economic Management Team, explaining that since the CBN had the responsibility to review monetary policies, all that was needed before the introduction of the note was for President Goodluck Jonathan to approve just as he had done. He observed that there were misconceptions regarding the initiative but was confident that the CBN would carry out an enlightenment campaign to allay the fears of Nigerians. "So, obviously, the discussion today was basically to endorse. Mr President had already approved. That is the only requirement by law. The CBN is to propose and Mr President is to approve. And since Mr President has approved, really, what is important is to just explain," he said. The minister, who was also deputy governor of the CBN, was adamant that the introduction of the N5,000 note would not lead to inflation in the country or deplete resources in terms of cost of printing the new note, saying "clearly, the N5,000 note, unlike some people misrepresent, is not going to lead to higher inflation. There is absolutely no link." On the new coins to be introduced, the minister pointed out that they would be introduced on an "introductory basis" alongside existing notes, noting that when they were finally accepted by the public, the notes of similar value would be withdrawn from circulation. "If people accept them and are using them, then gradually they will withdraw the other notes, but they will run concurrently with the notes," he stated. Dr Usman also explained that the introduction of the new note was not at variance with the cash-less policy of the present administration, since the new note would not be in high circulation. Meanwhile, Governors Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and Peter Obi (Anambra), prominent industrialist, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede and Mr Atedo Peterside have thrown their weights behind the introduction of the new note. Speaking at separate interviews with State House correspondents, they were unanimous in their belief that it would help the economy. Alhaji Dangote argued that rather than cause inflation, the introduction of the new note would help to protect the economy, adding that the cost of printing the new note would not be different from what was already being incurred at the moment. Explaining the necessity for the coins, he said: "Sometimes, minting the coins can even help. If I have a product which I am selling for N5 and I want to raise the price to N6, I won’t be able to do that. It is either I swallow the bullet and take it to 10 Naira or I don't increase at all. A lot of companies have not been able to increase their prices even though they are losing money." Mr Aig-Imoukhuede, who is a member of the EMT, viewed as unfortunate, the negative public reactions to the move to introduce the N5,000 note, saying that the CBN was only performing its role under the nation's law. According to the Managing Director of Access Bank, "It is very rare for you to have a Central Bank that does not look at the issue of currency management and issue new notes from time to time based on the reality of the economy. "In the case of Nigeria, our economy is such that a N5,000 note, which is in effect a $30 note is not strange. The greatest argument I have heard about it is causing of inflation. The other argument is that it will cost money to introduce the new note. There is no relationship between the issuance of higher legal tender and inflation. "It is unfortunate that some have misled people into thinking that it will lead into higher inflation. Every Central Bank by the nature of currency management will issue new notes all the time. So, printing of notes is an ongoing operation that every Central Bank engages in.” On his part, another member of the EMT, Mr Atedo Peterside, noted that the country was losing huge amounts of money importing dollars to finance the activities of corrupt individuals while money were wasted on printing what he said was worthless notes. "Right now, the country is losing in two ways; one: we are importing massive US Dollars to finance the activities of all these rogues, because the US Dollars offered the higher store of value for them and two, we squander our resources printing large volumes of worthless notes," he declared. In a related development, members of the Anti-Corruption Network, a non-governmental organisation, on Tuesday, in Abuja, marched to the headquarters of the CBN to protest the planned introduction of N5,000. At the CBN headquarters in the Central District of Abuja, the group chanted anti-government songs amidst heavy rain and accused the bank of trying to further impoverish the poor with the introduction of the N5,000 denomination. The leader of the group and a former member of the House of Representatives, Dino Melaye, said the policy would only increase the sufferings of the Nigerian people, contrary to the views of the CBN governor, Mallam Lamido Sanusi. He said “we have received and heard of the corporate policy of the CBN; we have analysed it and I want to believe that laws are meant for men and not men for law. “Democracy will continue and must continue to be government of the people, for the people and by the people and not government of the greedy, for the greedy and by the greedy. “We are here today as Nigerians to show our displeasure for this very hash policy that the CBN is about to introduce. How will the introduction of the N5,000 note bring food or beverage on the table for the common Nigerian? We believe that many failed policies of the CBN, under Sanusi, have brought more pain and sufferings to us. With this N,5000 note, is the CBN approbating and reprobating?” Tunde Lemo, a deputy governor of CBN, who received the protesters on behalf of the bank, said it was not true that the apex bank would use N40 billion to print the new currency as recently reported in the media. He also said even if the CBN was not introducing the new notes, it would still spend money to print currency. Lemo also said the CBN would not do anything that would not be in the interest of the masses, while arguing that contrary to popular opinion, the introduction of the new N5,000 note would not lead to higher inflation. “Without the masses, there is no CBN; and CBN is doing a lot to help the masses,” he said. Lemo, however, promised that the apex bank would listen to the opinion of the people on the issue. Source:Nigeria tribune |
