Your point is very clear Everything you've stated is obvious. But my issue is you trying to be a motivational/inspirational speaker...rather than a realist. Virtually everyone here who applied for this job would put in EVERY OF THEIR BEST to do all right things in getting the job...except for the few that don't even bother to know the meaning of SRD but have written all tests. Many people here research and study day and night on recruitment best practices... Some of us have come across ur website and read ur stuffz...pretty good stuff... But please be a realist! I've read ur own story...you are also fortunate(whether u believe it or not)... Don't think it's cos of your (smartness/brilliance/intelligence) that made u get 2 offers from IOCs immediately after service... There is always an element of luck and fortune to reckon with. Now, immediately after ur service, and working in IOCs, you have probably not been exposed to recruitment procedures in 'Nigeria'... That's probably why you can sit in the comfort of ur room, with a cozy tablet or laptop and try take away reality from people. Some facts: 1. Spdc is just one amongst millions of coys that recruit...have you considered what gets in the other 99.9% of firms? 2. You mention NNPC... If I tell u what goes down in NNPC... You would be ashamed to mention them here. If truly ur friend is there, and u guys communicate as regards recruitment issues, I'm sure you won't be proud to mention that coy here. 3. It is true that no coy would see a top-notch, excellent candidate and not kill for his/her services... (I'm a personal testimony as I am currently with an indigenous E&P coy by virtue of an outstanding performance- when given the opportunity to)--But how many percent of Nigerian graduates belong to that category? How many percent of Nigerian grads are given the opportunity to show what they are made of? Not everyone would be top-notch, brilliantly smart! So what happens to the just averagely smart guys? They are back in the pool of the corrupt system...where people resume work everyday...by recommendation from one minister, governor or the likes... While deserving graduates are on Nairaland listening to a motivational speaker saying things they have no experience in. I'm not here to kill people's morale...all I'm saying is that you don't have the right slander someone with the term "toxic mindset"... When all he did was say what gets in his version of Nigeria! It's obvious your own version of Nigeria is a very perfect one without corruption in the system Jarus: Yes, the mindset is toxic. Mindset ruins. It is calling defeatist mindset: going to a war with the mentality that you cannot win! It will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The company doesn't matter, if you approach any recruitment with the mindset that your efforts won't count, you will likely not make it.
The fact that the recruitment process of many companies are not merit-driven doesn't mean you cannot get job. You can't tell me, everyone that works in, say GTB, knows someone in GTB.
Look at the people that got job by merit and get motivated, rather than whine that you cannot get. Look at the cup as half-full.
Without any proof or example, the guy just came to "lampoon" Shell recruitment process. That is toxic. It can kill the morale of many people. And it is not true.
I have worked in the oil and gas industry all my almost 10 years career.
Even in NNPC that is a govt corporation, I see friends - brilliant friends - get job there without knowing anyone. One of them I brought to Lagos and accommodated during NYSC. He didn't know anyone. He had never stepped into Lagos before. But he was brilliant. If you're brilliant (and admittedly lucky too, in some cases) you will get job.
It is very wrong to discourage people.
People should stop whining. I have a friend that, during my service year in Sokoto, he spent all the one year trying tgo get Sultan do a letter for him to take to NNPC. If he had spent that energy on reading the NYSC recruitment requirements, he could have done better. But he had believed his efforts cannot count and he can't get job without Sultan's letter. |

Jarus: This mindset is very toxic. [s]This is the reason why many Nigerian grads are still unemployed.[/s] I'm quite disappointed to see this statement from a 'presumed' experienced person/mentor like u. What is toxic about that writer's mindset? Is Shell recruitment not one of the only FEW coys that base their selection on merit? What about others? Should I begin to name them? Especially the indigenous firms? The reason for grad unemployment in this country aside from unavailability of jobs is the rot in the recruitment processes...all over the country! It's not a toxic mindset, it's a fact! Many thanks to shell and others who strive for a better option...even though one still can't take learning points from an unsuccessful process itself...as they don't give hints on why you failed the process. They just slam you with a regret mail without reason! Many thanks also to nairalanders for helping us manufacture these reasons shell refused to give us. |

The application process will definitely verify these requirements. Except one decides to falsify. My bro... I did all the do...and that was my first app for SRD |

Mypeople2: Mr A is more accurate. He failed one out of eight. Mathematically, (number of passes /total number of attempts)*100 .Those he passed =8-1=7. So, (7/ *100=87.5%.While Mr B passed 15-4=11.That means his accuracy is (11/15)*100=73.3%.Therefore,Mr A is more accurate Oga well done ni o... Saryea83: After 3days of completing my numerical test, I just got below mail from shell Tuesday 7:30pm what could be the outcome? Any other person with similar mail?
Dear S........
Thank you for your interest in a career with Shell and for taking the time to submit your application. This email is to inform you that you have now completed the online assessment. We will now give careful consideration to your application. You will receive separate notification of the outcome in due course. Please note that our communication with you with regard to your application is mostly done via email. Therefore, we would appreciate it if you could check your email inbox regularly to ensure we maintain close contact throughout your application.
What could this be? I got same mail immediately after my test last year. Then after about 3days, regret mail came. Forget all these permutations on here...there is no specific formula to knowing where you stand. Just pray to God and hope for the best. |
