Jobs/VacanciesRe: Busted: Tellers Welfare - The True Story In Access Bank! by point45(m): 7:43am On Sep 27, 2013
Is this job worse than being unemployed at home? Cos I bet you lots of people here secretly or openly won't mind taking his slot.
Then, don't people understand the condition of these jobs before they apply?

I have this job for you at this rate and condition, interested candidates apply. If you then apply, don't go there and cry.

And even if you need to push for a change, come on,don't crack the coconut with your head for others.

Someone complained about union paying how much? Dude diamond bank just "upgraded" to 28k. Do the employees like it? No. Do they wanna go back home? Lol, NO ! And that's the highest paying bank today, I still say banks pay ok, ask the agencies why they've agreed to slave labour or worse, eaten the chunk of that original paid by the bank.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Busted: Tellers Welfare - The True Story In Access Bank! by point45(m): 9:26am On Sep 25, 2013
I agree with most if not all his points.
What I do not agree with is his manner of delivery.

First, forget petty heroics, this is Nigeria ( and while it's not the best, things are not ok). An anonymous mail from an anonymous account will still deliver the same message thereby ensuring his safety.

Secondly, even the mail bears more of a "war" tone than that of pain and I'm sure this also contributes to the sack.

He has done the right thing but in a not so right way.

A lot of the problems being faced by outsourced emplyees is brought on them by the likes of SOL and ICSL who negotiate their terms of employment and do a very horrible job just so as to maximise their own profits.
Let's not forget also that most have employment letters of/from these agencies making them technicallly theirs not of the banks. While this is not an excuse for unfair treatment, I believe his letter hasn't been properly put out.

Let's learn to fight smart not fight hard.
God bless his intentions though.

Employed before interview, pay for whatever certificate, @lawyer.com domain name, this is a joke.
You should set up a meeting with them and go with a cop.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: American Int.plc by point45(m): 9:42am On Sep 17, 2013
Questions to ask yourself:

Did I apply to them?
Why did I apply?
What did I apply for?
Did I write a test or attend an interview?
Did I find out about them before applying?
How did they get my details?

The answer to them will address your initial concern/question.

DMainMan: But Total Nigeria called only Ond and Hnd in their latest recruitment excluding BSc and MSc. Is dat not discrimination and injustice
This recruitment was for what position? Therein lies the reason why.
Jobs/VacanciesGrade Discrimination: Whose Fault Exactly? by point45(op): 7:58pm On Sep 14, 2013
The issue of how HND graduates are treated in Nigeria will always be a sensitive one because most people do not want to offend others.
Are they being treated fairly by others? No . Are they being fair to themselves? No.

We live in a country where (whether we agree to it or not), things are not done the way they should. Take it from the top down to the bottom where the average Nigerian exists, we have embraced very bad methods of getting things done. Intellectual merit no longer counts for anything and has been replaced with social merits and community sentiments.

I can go on about the state of the nation but that's not all there is to this problem. We are to be blamed also. When you look at all the threads that have been created to address this issue, you'll understand my position. The most common of fighting points is that, the HND is an equivalent of the Bachelors degree. So, is it an equivalent? in most cases yes, but not all, and even then, it's equivalent not equal to.
Before you let sentiments take you over, ask yourself why you need a PGD to continue into Masters. These are just the facts as they are.

Such is the strength of the bias that even graduates of polytechnics say "HND and Degree", correct me if i'm wrong but has the meaning of degree been changed? is the HND not a degree?
The problem starts with us, reason is this; why do Nigerians (most if not all) attend polytechnics in the first place? You can twist the reasons however you want but the truth is that, it's because most could not secure admission either by merit or connection into a university. That means, we have a whole institution of people who'd rather be elsewhere. What manner of graduates do you then expect from there?

I'd like to believe that there was a time when people attended polytechnics because it was the best place for them to be. Is that still the case?

we are talking about a nation where the so called university graduates can't even string words together to form a proper sentence not to mention displaying intelligence in more complex areas.

For so long, we have lied to ourselves on what the real issue is. people with 2:1 grades lose jobs to others who are not as sound for reasons other than merit. people with 2:2 experience pain like you cannot imagine when they are not allowed to apply for jobs. 3rd class and pass grades? don't even think about it. But then, are we saying these graduates are not capable of delivering better than some who were thought to be highly rated? experience has shown that for most jobs it's about being streetwise not a bookworm.

so what am i saying? i'm saying if you have an HND don't expect Nigerians not to discriminate because they will. That doesn't make it right but it is what it is, you are not the only ones facing it. And yes you cannot totally blame them because when you think about it, HND graduates don't prove themselves too ! Again i ask you to check other threads and see the manner of language and sense being dropped.

Wake yourself up, and find a way to restore a personal competitive advantage for yourself, do the PGD, do your Masters, get professional certifications, be selfish, go all out to show that you are better than whoever it is that you have been pitched against because in the end, that's all that counts. And yes, this also includes university graduates as most of us found out the hard way, in Nigeria, your grades count for little. It's sad but it's the truth. The people who are to make the changes we currently seek don't exist on the pages of social websites so let's change the approach, let's change how we are seen (regardless of grade) and take it to them where they are.

I'm sure a lot of people will attempt to take this personal but then i'm also sure that, at least one person out there will read this and go on to make the steps to get better and be relevant once again. For that one person? it's worth the effort. Peace
Jobs/VacanciesRe: When You're Asked To Log In Into Your Facebook Account During A Job Interview by point45(m): 11:01am On Sep 09, 2013
Do you even understand the concept of passwords? And nobody asked for the password, you were asked to login. The point here is you can give them all the information they want without using their system or your account.(Even when your profile is clean). I'm sure you haven't read facebook's privacy policy which you agreed to when you opened the account.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: When You're Asked To Log In Into Your Facebook Account During A Job Interview by point45(m): 8:06pm On Sep 07, 2013
Very simple. I'd politely ask what information she's looking to have access to and suggest alternative ways of getting them. I cannot log in on a strange computer for security reasons (and that will also apply when you have an organisation account.) Keystroke logger alert.
Talking about alternative, how about you log into facebook and from there,I can direct you on how to view my profile.
The organisation needs to know you want the job and that they need you. However, they don't expect this to affect your decision making. If for a job you are quick to throw caution out the window, imagine what you'd do with company information just to secure targets. I want the job badly but I am not logging in on this system, you can let me get my ipad from my bag (or phone at worst).
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Why Is It Difficult To Find Qualified Candidates After Series Of Advert by point45(m): 11:59am On Jul 16, 2013
To be honest with you, potential candidates also screen and as such most of the people with the above requirements are on the threads of shell and the likes. One way out is to add how much the salary would be and trust me, you'll get the attention needed (or not). Peace
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Etisalat Analyst Retail Operations by point45(m): 1:38pm On Jul 08, 2013
Lol, let's just laugh at ourselves and move on. Olodo people all of us. (I flunked it too). Somehow I kinda saw this coming as I maintain 10 questions is too small but then again, I accept that I didn't meet up. I'm on to the next one abeg, no time to waste. Better luck next time to all. Etisalat, I hail o.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: First Bank Aptitude Test. by point45(m): 5:43pm On Jun 30, 2013
let it rest people, why the fuss about submitting? submitting doesnt translate into selection, afterall the shortlisting for the test didnt follow any clear criteria in the first place. At UI it was stated categorically that u dont have to click submit as it would be done at the end of the time, im asking myself if my performance can push me to the next stage, i suggest you do the same. Its even good, if u dont get picked, u can blame it on the submit button, thats better than qualified people who werent picked for the test.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Sterling Bank Invitation by point45(m): 7:42pm On Jun 27, 2013
@wonder why people scramble for bank jobs: because working in a bank is better than sitting at home. You have the experience that isn't worth it right? Some other people have the experience of staying at home and trust me, bank (temp or perm)is not to be compared with it.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Lecturing Career by point45(m): 7:55pm On Jun 25, 2013

Babe u sef no vex, knowledge always comes at a cost.
Ignore the hurt and pick what you want.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Etisalat Analyst Retail Operations by point45(m): 10:27pm On Jun 22, 2013
There were more than 10 questions for shell to start with. Then I'm not saying the questions can't be effective, I'm saying to form a richer opinion on the personality of a candidate, you'd need to mix in more questions, vary the circumstances more, etc. I bet you this is the first time anyone including you has had a 10 question personality test.
But like I said in my first post, what do I know? We can argue and blow grammar here, the koko is getting through.
Good luck

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Etisalat Analyst Retail Operations by point45(m): 5:38pm On Jun 21, 2013
IMO its next to impossible to conclude on the personality of a person with 10 questions (those 10 especially). But then, I'm not the HR expert. Good luck to everyone cos really it feels like a gamble. On to the next one.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Massive Recruitment In FCMB Bank!!!!!!!! by point45(m): 12:46pm On May 28, 2013
How much is minimum wage again? You want an NLC that negotiated that to fight 25k, lol dream on
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Contract Job; A Modern Day Slavery. by point45(m): 9:37am On May 27, 2013
Given that most of the banks outsource recruitment of contract staff, technically you are not even an employee of the bank. Gtbank pays in excess of 75k to contract staff, that has got to be better than being unemployed.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Contract Job; A Modern Day Slavery. by point45(m): 7:39am On May 27, 2013
Honestly ppl should stop complaining about contract jobs. It is what it is, a contract. I'd like to think that you knew what yo were getting into before you did it and you were not forced to do it. If you go from being unemployed with zero income to being barely employed with peanuts, its a crawl in the positive direction.
That being said, companies too need to know that quality comes at a good price,if you can't pay people right don't expect the best.
And since the unemployed community in Nigeria grows by the micro second, an individual who doesn't wanna settle for a contract job has got to pray hard, score the best and win job wars.

There are 3 possible current states, you've been told sorry......, you've been told congrats or you've been told your application is still being reviewed. People have come forward to say they got the 'sorry' mail. With nobody reporting a success yet, I think it's safe to assume that they are still reviewing.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Bank Of America Recruiting Participants for Presentation by point45(m): 2:05pm On May 19, 2013
Submitted on april the 26th. Honestly doubt this is a date related delay. Not to mention that nobody seems to have gotten a positive feedback yet. The wait isn't funny though.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Bank Of America Recruiting Participants for Presentation by point45(m): 3:13pm On May 16, 2013
I think the best way to confirm your status is through the application portal. Has anyone been successful yet? good luck to everyone still waiting.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Bank Of America Recruiting Participants for Presentation by point45(m): 1:10pm On May 15, 2013
Did the mail come immediately after your test? As in, do you think its auto generated post test depending on score? I'm asking cos I completed it weeks ago and nothing yet.
@1forall: its not the same, there are other internship programmes and positions.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Bank Of America Recruiting Participants for Presentation by point45(m): 3:39pm On Apr 27, 2013
Have you taken the test? U apply, u do the test then you complete the rest of your application
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Bank Of America Recruiting Participants for Presentation by point45(m): 12:19pm On Apr 27, 2013
Its auto generated and sent to your application centre and email. As soon as you submit your initial application for the insight week, you'll get it.

Mostly statistical analysis with proper mathematical application. Can't remember any as I was under pressure too.But its not as bad to deal with, just the time. You get a table, and answer based on analysis and calulations
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Bank Of America Recruiting Participants for Presentation by point45(m): 10:39pm On Apr 26, 2013
Pretty standard event I'd say. For once an arrangement that matched expectations. A little disappointing from participants though as most (not all) of the questions asked were off point and long thereby robbing others of the chance to ask. A few intelligent contributions though, the lady from UNN and the dude from NOUN totally nailed it.
This basically was an eye opener, full recuitment campaign to follow in september.
And for once,a post event mail (which is so nice and proper given they don't have to).
For the insight week event in september, application is standard. (Pretty long if you aren't used to it, and you need exact course details with grades), a couple of essay type questions then a numeric test. 20 questions 20 minutes, online realtime. You pass you get sent clearance to complete the application. Notifications after closing date which I'm guessing will be to schedule a telephone interview. How do I know? I just completed it.Good luck y'all

JobManagers: Thanks for the information! smiley
Anytime mate, that for ib is UI car park. You might just wanna contact them again to be extra certain for your own case, just to be sure. (I think your email printout stating pickup point admits you), like I said, its always better to verify.
Cheers

1forall: Well this topic is not for jokes, it would be more beneficial to you to concentrate on preparing for the day than joking around here trying to sound clever.
It will be more beneficial for you to stop addressing people in a condescending tone and quit being grumpy, being jobless doesn't mean you can't be nice and friendly to people. And erm, yeah, nairaland moderator doesn't count as a job.
Whatever you say after this? I forgive your grasp.

shegsky: . Where is you pick up point.
Was sent 3 diff options. Ilorin, ife and ibadan. That's why I said if its just the one you got, then its got to be candidate specific.
