PoliticsEdo Moves To Recover $31m From Igbinedion by politricks(op): 6:37am On Nov 05, 2015
The Edo State Government on Wednesday said that it had begun moves to recover $31m which it said was allegedly “fraudulently taken” from the government coffers, during the administration of former Governor Lucky Igbinedion. According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Peter Okhiria, on Wednesday, the
Commissioner for Information, Mr. Louis Odion, disclosed this at the end of the State Executive Council meeting. He also said that the state government would commence a legal action against the former governor’s administration, in order to recover what had been taken from the government coffers. The commissioner said, “There is the issue of a fraud that was discovered while looking into our books. We found that $31m was fraudulently taken from the state coffers under the administration of Chief Lucky Igbinedion. The comrade governor has directed the Attorney-General to commence a
legal action in that direction. “So, in the coming days, the state government will take a legal action to ensure that what was stolen from the Edo State Government is recovered. When you convert $31m to naira, it fetches you a whooping N7bn. You can imagine what N7bn will do in improving the human condition in Edo State.” The commissioner praised some landlords and companies in the state for their compliance with the payment of the land use charge. Also speaking, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Abdul Oroh, alleged that the $ 31m was allegedly used to fund a
cement firm in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state. Oroh said, “As the money was withdrawn, the construction of the company started and all the major structures were in place, 90 per cent completed, machines were installed but there was no other contribution from any other source for the construction and procurement of these equipment. So, everything invested in that company came from the Edo State Government.” He also accused the Igbinedion administration of allegedly privatising the state fruit juice processing company at a “giveaway” price. “The fruit juice processing company in Ehor was established in 2001 by the Lucky Igbinedion’s administration. The cost of establishing that company was N368,458,195 invested in this company by the Edo State Government. The company was owned 100 per cent by the Edo State Government. The materials for the company were imported from England from a company at a sum of £310,000,” he said. Oroh added, “The company was now sold including the land and the three hectares pineapple farm which was also developed by the Ministry of Agriculture for
N283.8m. The company was completed and there was a test-
run. There was no reason to privatise it and it was sold out at a giveaway price which only could have been influenced by criminal intentions.’’ Efforts to get the comments of the former governor failed but a source close to him said Igbinedion would react to the allegations later.

PoliticsSix Of 10 Children’ll Suffer Violence Before 18 – UNICEF by politricks(op): 1:01pm On Nov 04, 2015
NAN Chief, Child Protection, United Nations Children’s Fund, Rachael Harvey, has said six out of 10 children would suffer one form of
violence before they reached the age of 18. Harvey made this known on Wednesday at a two-day workshop organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in collaboration with UNICEF in Lagos. “The Violence Against Children survey shows a huge prevalence of violence against children in Nigeria – emotional, physical and sexual. “Six of 10 children will suffer one form of violence before they reach the age of 18, while one in two suffers physical violence- intentional burning, kicking, whipping and punching. “Also, one in four girls and one in 10 boys suffer sexual violence, and one in five boys and one in six girls suffer emotional violence,” she said. Harvey said the major challenge in VAC was that children were suffering in silence. According to her, very few children ever speak out about what is happening to them. “Even when they speak out, they do not try to access services. Less than five per cent of children ever receive support. “Adults are much more likely to perpetuate violence when they are adults,” Harvey said. She said it would require everyone including the government, Non-government Organisations, communities, parents and the media to take a stand to prevent and respond to VAC. “We have to have communities that do not tolerate violence and if violence happens, we need to speak out. “We need services that are available and responsive, and when children come to them, they will get the services they need to help them,” she said. Also speaking, the Director, Child Development, WAPA, Mrs. Alaba Fadawo, said the ministry had put in place many strategies to curb VAC. Fadawo said, “There is an ongoing aggressive campaign. “The other thing is intervention and rescue where children are abused and persecution of perpetrators of abuses. “Apart from that, there is a team in place, a Sexual Violence Response Team, which is a network of stakeholders working
with children to ensure that violence is minimised,” she said. She said the ministry had issued Yellow Cards, which, according to her, were warning cards. “In the yellow cards, there are help lines where we can be reached. “Within the communities, the cards are distributed to people so that as soon as a child is being violated, people can call the help line. “Such child will be rescued and the perpetrators will be handled legally,” Fadawo said. 

PoliticsGEM Project Targets 100,000 Jobs by politricks(op): 12:23pm On Nov 04, 2015
Project Coordinator, Growth and Employment Project, Mr Sani Labaran, has said the venture was aimed at creating about 100,000 jobs upon completion. Labaran made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of the GEM Equity Window Launch on Tuesday in Lagos. According to him, the project is open to every Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneur without discrimination. “Everybody has equal opportunity,” Labaran said. He explained that the ultimate aim of the project was to ensure the growth of the economy beyond oil. The coordinator said that interested investors should register on the Business, Innovation and Growth platform to qualify for the equity financing through the GEM project. He added that SMEs must first be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission to be eligible. Labaran said, “It became effective in July 2013. It is a five-year programme. “But what we are saying is that whoever we support in the next few years should become effective in whatever business he is doing. “Whoever we support must be able to stand on his or her own. The GEM project has a life span that will expire by September 2018. “If the objective of the project is achieved, we can ask the government to create more projects that will be financed by the World Bank.” He advised SMEs to leverage on the opportunities created by the performance and equity grant segments of the project.  http://punchng.com/2015/11/3862

It would've been a good debate on the floor of this intellectual chamber (forum) but u spoilt it by narrowing d question to only conformation process instead of his reign as the SP so far. I know u will be satisfied if someone score him zero on the ground that Ameachi is confirmed as Minister. And again don't forget what the Senate was doing was not call screening but confirmation. The screening of the nominees were done by the DSS and other relevant agencies before the names were forwarded to the Senate and that's why some of them were simply allowed to bow and go.
Read my post again and you will discover that i meant his general performance so far. That was why i used the word 'especially' because there is no doubt that has been his most challenging task so far. Even the topic of my thread did not specify. But thanks anyway, i guess i have to improve on my writing in order to communicate more clearly.
