Blueray: If I read the reasons the US Ambassador gave for the visa denial correctly, it is still in the realm of allegation. No matter how they live their personal lives, these honourable gentlemen are our leaders, duly elected. That they are accused of a crime does not make them immediately guilty because they are Nigerians. Non of us will join the whole villagers to belittle our parent(s) if they are 'accused' of witchcraft without proof. Considering where the accusations are coming from, the US against soliciting for sex while operating gay clubs. I will suggest we allow the investigation proposed by the Speaker to be completed before we show how righteous we are. I am a proud Nigerian and no clown will accuse my leaders this cheap and get away with it. These are very weighty allegations that the Ambassador must be made to substantiate. My guy do not bring Nigerian mentality into the matter. Before an American Official/institution will make an allegation they must have concluded their investigation backed with facts and figure because they know the consequence of defamation of character. Nigeria is like America where when an average politician is caught red handed, he will still deny and even hire the whole of SANs in the country rather bowing down out of office. |

Menstrualpad or whatever you call your self, if Diezani is truly innocent of all these barrage of allegations and innuendoes she has been subjected to since she left government especially the latest one, let her sue the EFFCC and possibly Al Jazeera for defamation of character and claim for damages rather than joining issues with them on the pages of newspapers and in the social media. If she is sincere and can possibly tell the whole world where she got her sudden wealth, then she will be exonorated and the court will award substantial amount of money as damages.Until this is done, many people will continue to assume that she stole why she was in government because this a common trend with Nigerian government officials. the fact that she was once an executive director in Shell does NOT make her billionaire overnight.EFCC has made allegation with tangible and verifiable evidence it is left with Diezani to come and clear her name with FACTS and FIGURES rather than mare assertions and whipping up of sentiments. |

nelronaldo: first I won't argue with you because it shows you are ignorant about the customs and tradition of the Benin Kingdom... Please note! the Governor never appoints the Oba and he is not going to appoint this one. he is only giving approval for the rites that needs to be done for a successful coronation to be done.. Also dude, I really don't care about your Sultan but comparing him to the Oba of Benin is stupid. THE OBA OF BENIN IS THE FIRST SON OF AN INDEGENIOUS WIFE.... it is given by birth, will you give what rightfully belongs to your first son to any other child or a stranger? will you allow a stranger place an outside in the position rightfully belongs to your first son? yes, the Nigeria constitution doesn't have a place for tradition/traditional rulers, it doesn't mean they are not respected or honoured by the governor or constitution. Oshiomole's letter doesn't determine who the next king is or will be, it only means "yes, the Benin pple can go ahead with the coronation of the already known heir apparent" the heir apparent to this next king is already known and has been sent to a special place where he is being protected by the gods. so Oshiomole or any governor can never decide to remove a king in Benin Kingdom. the Only reason they remove Emir and Sultan is because they are normally done by appointment. The Bini throne is hereditary and is the first son's birthright. My brother, I never said it was the duty a governor to appoint or select a new Oba or Emir as the case may be, it is the duty of the king makers in line with the custom and tradition of the community concern. All what I wrote was that the GOVERNORS are empowered by relevant laws of their states to ratify/approve the selection/appointment so made by the king makers. Be that as it may, Is should be noted that NO CUSTOM/TRADITIONAL PRACTICES supersede the Constitution of Nigeria. Although the Constitution of Nigeria recognizes our customary laws but such laws must NOT be seen to be repugnant to EQUITY and natural JUSTICE. Hence, it is a known fact that ascension to the throne of Oba of Bini Kingdom through primogeniture (that is from father to son), but this has one time or the other, in the past, compromised. Go and read details of History of Bini in some credible history books. Nevertheless, there is nowhere in the statement or action of Edo State government that the heir to throne of Oba of Bini will be bye- pass or compromise. I wonder why people are making mountain out of a mole-hill about the matter. |

Consultville: I don't like the way people talk when it comes to cultural issues.
Is Benin Kingdom bigger than Edo State.
Get some sense please, without the Governor's approval, the King is a mere Chief, please don't underestimate the powers of a Governor. Read your constitution Thank you my brother! enlighten them so that they will stop displaying their ignorance and sometime their stupidity. |
Culture › Re: Edo Government Retracts Statement On Oba's Appointment by popsonbj: 2:32pm On May 25, 2016 |
VulgarVulvas: The throne of the Oba of Bini is not subject to the approval or discretion of even the President talk less of a governor under the Oba's realm.
This is the only surviving dynasty left in Africa and it dates back to a bloodline centuries before Nigeria or Edo state came into existence.
For one unionist scammer to have the audacity to declare the living heir apparent to his claims to his forefathers throne is a abomination upon itself.
Oshiomole must sacrifice Iara to appease the gods and ancestors of the revered Bini Kingdom for his sacrilegious claims of authorising a new Oba for the Kingdom of Bini and her peoples. My brother, don't over hype the position of traditional rulers in modern day Nigeria because there is no roles/place for them, for now, in the constitution. The appointment of any vacant traditional stool in Nigerian community is at the mercy of the state governor according to section 19 (1) of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Law, 1979 (as amended) Law of Edo state of Nigeria. The same law also empowers the governor to remove any erring traditional ruler. In view of this, no traditional ruler can be too powerful in Nigeria that a state governor does not have the power to approve or ratify his appointment.Although the king makers may select the right candidate for the position but ultimately the governor MUST approve or ractify the thier chioce. The law empowers the governor to do so.Also, no traditional ruler is too powerful to be dethroned or removed. If Sultan of Sokoto (Alhaji Dasuki) could be removed, then who is Oba of Benin that can not be remove or his appointment is not be subjected to governor's approval? It would be recall that Chief Obafemi Awolowo removed Oba Olagbegi, the Olowo of Owo,from the throne and no heaven fell. Col. Joshua Madaki removed Emir of Muri Emirate , from the throne during the military rule, no heaven fell. Please be informed that all traditional rulers in Nigeria are at the mercy of state governors |
