Top Italian defence company Leonardo has won a €1.2bn order for 24 M-346 FA light attack aircraft for the Nigeran Air Force. Nigerian security company SecPro Africa will provide the ammunition for the new aircraft.

Chai, I see it now.

However, Secpro only came out to refute the claims on ammunition and not the whole sale of the aircraft

One of the 3 new inshore patrol vessels constructed for Project Biro. Three of these vessels are being built for R1.5 billion.

Based on the Stan 6211 design the basic specs are 62m length, a top speed of 30 knots, and a crew complement of 48. I think the chosen main armament is a 20mm remote-controlled cannon by Denel.

The first ship will be commissioned this year.

To add: IPVs in SA Navy classification, built in SA, with a concurrent build of an replacement for SAS Protea, the hydrographic vessel, also done locally.

Yeah, I don't like the desert cammo, it looks too simplistic. Infact I don't like aircrafts in desert cammo, they always look unassuming, dull and without purpose.

That Ship is a small corvette.

It's gratifying to see a locally built ship of this size.

Although personally, I don't like the design, I would have much preferred a conventional design.

Remember that story from the same magazine that said Kenya would be getting 100 APCs of a certain type from a certain company from Turkey for $110m to which the company came out and denied having made the deal. It later turn out that it was another Turkish company doing the deal for $73m for 118 Hizir APCs.
So the news was actually credible, africaintelligence magazine just got the details all wrong but the basic truth was somewhere in there i.e. they hadn't just made the whole thing up from nowhere. So I would say being a company that mostly posts exclusive stories that no other media outlet has by the time they are publishing which is no easy task. You have to give them the benefit of doubt and wait and see if there was some truth to the story or not.

Thanks jare. Everything is adding up bit by bit. JF-17 thunder were more expensive because it uses a lot of western tech instead of cheaper ones from chinese. The CJ4 citation ordered might have something to do with everything. M346- tucano- jf-17- CJ4 citation.

We have such rough seas down here even a IPV has to be over 60m or it won't fare very well.

OPVs will be more than 80m. Our current OPVs - converted Israeli missile craft - were acquired when no one else would sell due to sanctions, and will be withdrawn from service.
Sailors will be pleased cos the design suited the Mediterranean and they had terrible sea-keeping.

That's why I envy navies working in calmer waters cos they can buy lots of smaller vessels.

Personal opinion: I suspect the Sea Axe design is the way of the future for IPVs and OPVs.

The Sea Axe is only used commercially by Damen, most other builders are still using conventional designs.

I don't see many shipbuilders adopting this design now or in the future. In fact the hull design by fincantieri seems more viable.

I don't like small crafts, I prefer ships that are 50 meters and above. Especially when locally built, the pure satisfaction.

Anyway, this new ship gives South-African defence watchers something to cheer about, considering this is the first major military purchase in many years.
