Congratulations on the full ride Chief. This is amazing.
Focus your energy on chasing your school to send your transcript. You could also mention the school and someone here might have scaled through this challenge you have.
As for the interview dates, why would you say you don't want amergency ? To book an emergency appointment, you first need to book the earliest date available (January 2022 or July 2021 in your case here). Then when your program start date is within 60 days, you can request for an emergency appointment and it will be granted in less than 12 hours.

Hello friends, I'm new here.
Got Fall admission and graduate assistantship, with a full tuition waiver, living expenses, housing and flight.
My school seems to be delaying the sending of my transcript to the US, and of course without it, they will not release the I-20. My school intends to email the I-20 so I'm sure to get it with 48 hours of transcript getting there. I need that I-20 like yesterday...
I can already see interview dates in Lagos showing January 2022 (too late), and Abuja showing July, still too late. I don't want emergency.
Please anyone with useful info here should help a brother- connect, advice, etc. Still pressing exams and records to do the needful though. I feel like I should travel down there and gatecrash them till they send it. I want it to leave this week.

My dear, before I got an offer to the school I'm going to for my MBA, I also had other schools that gave me full-tuition. They are all top 30 schools. Granted, the best funding most get for a top MBA is usually full-tuition, that's if you get any substantial funding at all. So I was kind of happy. One of the schools eventually gave me their highest scholarship award which was full-tuition plus $10K stipend, and that was still not enough. because the estimated living expenses for an MBA is over $30K per year. Where would I have gotten the balance of more than $20K(and I didn't wanna run around to family, friends et al)? We don't earn that much here, even though most economic statistics would place me among the top 2-5% of earners in Nigeria. You can earn 650K per month and still not have substantial savings cos maintaining a decent life here is expensive. Had I not gotten my current school (also a top 30), which gave me a stipend that covers everything plus more, I would have not attended despite full-tuition and $10K stipend. Sometimes full-tuition ain't enough. Depends on the person's situation.

You made a lot of sense...so true@ bold . All the best with the MBA

Where did you get this from ? This is simply no true.
The only grounds on which your emergency requested can be rejected (As an F1 Visa seeking student) is if it comes outside of the 60 days prior to resumption window (or your original scheduled date is more than 30 days before your program starts). And even in that case, you can re-request an emergency if your first one is denied.

They don't give your "emergency dates". When your emergency request is granted, you would still be the one to select the interview date you want. Only that the dates will now be very closer than your initial booking.

Let Me illustrate it for you. If your son's colleague and his teacher are to write recommendations for him, which one do you think will hold more water?
Try And get lecturers to do the needful. You Can even give the lecturer the draft of what you need from him or her

The University of Wyoming.
Though closed for Fall, for those who want to give this a shot in the Spring:
Top 200 school.
Located in a small isolated town in the West. But just 2hrs 30mins from Denver Airport, one of the busiest in America.
They fund a lot of study abroad.
They prioritize work experience, and how you fit in, have a specific and clear research topic and a clear post-study plan. They value this more than just grades and CGPA. They would love you to do a PhD and have a sense of problem you'd like to solve.
Take recommendation letters seriously.
The cost of living is pretty low.

It would be perfect to have a Nigerian friend coming too, so we run things together. We help ourselves.

Hello people,

I registered for IELTS (British Council) myself. The payment as been successful and I have also been sent my reference number. One thing I don’t understand about this registration is that my portal keeps saying Booked-awaiting approval and I also got a mail from them stating that there’s no legal agreement between us until I get a confirmation email from them.

Please is it that I won’t be allowed into the exam hall if my registration hasn’t been approved despite the fact that I have my reference number and I have also gotten a payment successful mail. It’s almost 2weeks since I registered. Thank you so much for your time

Good afternoon friends, I am literally confused on what to do.

My story goes thus:

My parents are currently in the USA on a B1/B2 visa and I am filling my DS 160 for my F1 visa interview which will take place in June. My parents are likely to be back before my interview, so I do not know if I should bother with filling in that section that my parents are in the US since they would be in Nigeria at that time of my interview.

Also, I was denied visa on January 06, 2021 and during this period, my brother got married to a US citizen in Nigeria and they were still in Nigeria when I filled my DS160, applied for visa and went for my interview. Now, he is currently in the US with his wife, I automatically now have a sibling in the US. How do I present this to the consular officer? Should I bother filling in my form that I have a sibling there or just leave it that I do not, so that it would correspond to what I filled previously in January?

I hopefully look forward to your opinions.

First of all, congratulations on your soon to be awarded master's degree. Proceeding, have you been granted admission/funding for your PhD program? Securing visa is a combination of a whole lot. The aim is trying to convince the VO you're a legitimate potential student for a PhD study. Completing your master's degree is already a good sign. Hence applying from SA or Nigeria might be a miniature consideration in your case. In most cases people would always advice that one applies from his/her home country. But this doesn't mean you can't be given a visa applying from another country - you are most likely going to be asked this question by the VO; "why arent you applying from your home country". There are a thousand and one tenable reasons you can give to justify this.

In answering your second question, it's always advisable to be sincere with your answers. Most certainly it will always make more sense to return to your home country to resume work. Thats more logical and plausible.

Anything else you need to know? Prepare, prepare, prepare. The odds favor those who are prepared.

I wish you well.

abdullahi45:
Good day, Fellow Nairalanders,

I have been passively following this trend.

I would be glad to receive your responses to the below questions regarding F-1 visa application.

I am nearing the completion of a master's degree at a University in South Africa and I intend to resume a doctoral position at an American University in the Fall. My question is, will applying and interviewing for my F-1 visa in South Africa (as opposed to Nigeria) reduce my chances of securing the visa?

Since all my family members are in Nigeria, how can I convince the VO of my home ties (if I am applying from South Africa)?

Also, is it okay to tell the VO that I will resume work in Nigeria or South Africa after my doctoral study?

Is there anything else I need to know?

Thank you for your time and invaluable responses.
