SyIvalord: Fans and the media coming for a manager because of lack of trophies is the reason football has become so rigid. Managers are scared to lose. No more risk taking and it’s going to get worse.
Football has become a chore because of the fans and the media. The fans follow the media, most so-called fans don’t even watch the games, they just read nonsense online and start forming retarded opinions. Go to Instagram, Twitter, Reddit and even here in nairaland and you’ll see what I am sayingtyping
The fans echo whatever agenda the media is pushing. Haven’t you seen some people here castigating Greenwood? Rival fans troll him because he wasn’t scoring as regularly as he was towards the end of last season? Go to IG and twitter and you’ll see idiots claiming Greenwood is a fraud and Greenwood is finished. Imagine claiming that a lad that has not even started his career is finished. Is that the media too? Fans are part of the problem bro.
Haha, bro you and I know that if United plays scintillating football throughout the season but end up with zero trophies, people will call for Ole to be sacked. Many people don’t care about the style of play, just win trophies, that’s all they care about. You can see this in the way people only complain about bus parking when it doesn’t bring success. As long as you are successful, people don’t care about your style of play. Mourinho is a good case study. True bro. Your points are valid enough too |

SyIvalord: I no get time for wahala oo
Ofcourse tactics and setup is crucial, that is why I said; Ole wants the players to create chances with their skills and talent while keeping to the game plan. No matter how elaborate a coach’s game plan is, the team will fail if the players don’t have the skill or talent or mentality to actualize it.
For example, the team builds well only for the player who is supposed to give the final pass (that should result in a chance) to make a bad decision or overhit the pass or just shoot stupidly. Such things coaches cannot be blamed for.
The coach must have a game plan and the players must have the skill set and talent to execute the game plan. Coaches are not magicians you know, the players have a bigger role on the pitch than the coach does. This is why successful managers in present day football are always looking to improve the squad. There are always loopholes that need to be fixed in the team.
If you let players roam about without a gameplan, that is only a recipe for chaos. Structure is important, but it is the job of the players to create while keeping to a particular structure.
Fans and the media coming for a manager because of lack of trophies is the reason football has become so rigid. Managers are scared to lose. No more risk taking and it’s going to get worse. So you are just buttressing my point for me. Football has become a chore because of the fans. Valid and fair points. Also it's fair to say toxicity on the general is just on the increase in the world today with social media being a major driving tool. Fans no get patience again, everyone demands and wants instant success/gratification without considering the process. |

Jodera: This is just like saying water is wet cos everyone who watched those two play knows that. But then, like it's been said earlier, stats have killed football. And football nowadays is drifting away from art (that it was before) to more of "mathematics" (if you'll permit me to use that), thereby taking away some of the entertainment factor we do cherish. Everything now is calculated. Passes o, shot o, marking oo. The overemphasis of all these things makes football more boring cos players are not allowed room for innovation and creativity. Football has become very robotic and matches aren’t as fun to watch as they used to be. Creative players hardly get to express themselves. Imagine being inside that stadium when AC Milan played Barcelona and Eyin performed his magic? His hatrick against Madrid nko? I know a Madrid fan who is still bitter about those goals. He came like a wrecking ball. Can you imagine watching DeLima, bursting ahead with amazing speed and dribbling any obstacle on his way. Live. ?! Those things makes watching football exciting. That atmosphere is gone. Being a fan nowadays is not as fulfilling. It’s all about data and whatnot. That’s why creative players are not appreciated as they used to. 3 Likes |

True. Even the era of long range shots is all gone. When you watch clips of old matches, you see how shots are being pelted at the goal keeper from left right and centre. These days, everybody wants to walk the ball into the net.
Very true. Fewer players attempt shots from outside the box. It’s a wah. |

Jodera: Spot on bro You just broke down the analysis of the arts and sciences of football well.
I just wish football will go back to an art, but sadly we've already passed that phase We still have a few artistic coaches but they’re becoming scientific. Marco Bielsa has tweaked tactics. Even Pep sef has changed his game plan. He doesn’t hug possession again as before. |

SyIvalord: Its the fault of the fans. Many fans have an entitlement mentality and an insatiable appetite for trophies. They expect teams to win every game and once a team loses, the terms fraud, overhyped start being used to describe the team. If you like win 20 games, once you lose one, the guns come out blazing. So football has adjusted to allow less “playing” and more “working”. After all, football is nothing without the fans
For example, Ole wants his forward men to show flair and use their talent to create chances while keeping to a certain game plan and everyone calls him a tactical dunce for it. They prefer coaches like Pep who insist on their players following rigid attacking patterns. So why won’t football become boring when fans prefer the rigid attacking patterns just because it’s currently bringing more success? Pep was obviously the wrong example to use there. |

I think the quality of football and footballers started declining around 2007 or so with the major culprits being the English medias, mourinho and his fans. Imagine English media asking cronaldo if he gets a single goal for his sixteen step overs ![grin](https://www.nairaland.com/faces/grin.png) . why won't Ronaldo focus on stats instead of enjoying himself? I also could remember how the english media and fans taunted Barcelona and their players after man United famous win in the UCL semis, they made it seem as if ronaldo was far more of a better player than messi after ronaldo's 42 goals exploit in 2008. These subsequently made the two players try to outdo each other in goal scoring records cus the one with the superior goal stats gets to win the player of the year award, while forgetting to entertain us with others players equally following suits with the trend continued till date. This media gimmick really played well into the mind of epl fans and thats is why most would rate lampard above iniesta ![cheesy](https://www.nairaland.com/faces/cheesy.png) . Mourinho on the other hand, would rather boast of how he won community shield with his satanic football at the expense of other managers who played good football without trophies and his fans, together with the english media will gladly applaud him while putting pressure on managers and fans of others teams with nothing to show for their good football. I don't think there was this nonsense before mourinho gain prominence in the game. |
