Some people still haven’t get the fact that it doesn’t matter anymore which course you study..
Re: Is Sociology A Nice Course To Study In Nigeria? by Nobody: 12:45pm On Apr 02, 2021
Study whatever you can. The important thing is to have good “people” and communication skill. You can always learn any other thing on the job.

As long as it's not a STEM course, it doesn't really matter. Just be relatable, corrigible and pretty/handsome and you will get your dream job.

Jobs are plenty in this useless country, a lot of people are just unemployable. I know people doing more than one jobs, not because they are so good, but there's a shortage of qualified prospective employees out there.

The worst part is - a lot of graduates just want to cash out without thinking about the value they bring in. How can you dedicate your time and funds to train someone that doesn't give a shit about the company? They just want to cash out! If you train them, they either leave or embarrass you online for not paying them enough. This is why it's more economical to employ experienced people.

Nigerians are difficult!

Back to the topic - just study whatever you can and make sure you graduate with a good result.

Instead of wasting 4years doing courses like phychology, political science or sociology.
Why not do Professional courses
Re: Is Sociology A Nice Course To Study In Nigeria? by Nobody: 12:45pm On Apr 02, 2021
Nigeria education

Go to school after graduating become a teacher if you can't find a job...lie to your students the importance of your course in the society and juicy places they will find job....then tell them to pay up their school fees so that you who's teaching the most important course will use it to eat and hold belle...then they graduate and face the reality....and repeat the cycle grin

Wrong
Don’t just say wrong, prove it.
Now tell me, will you tell a student studying medicine that “you can work anywhere, and start mentioning industries that are not health-related?”
Or you will tell an engineer that you can work in the legal sector?
Or tell a pharmacist that you can work in hospitality?
Or tell an architect that “you can work in Oil and gas sector”?
See, we have to be more candid and give aspirants the right advice .
The only good courses that are quite versatile now are IT courses.

Long story short.... Sociology is just like Social studies when you were in Junior secondary level. So u will fit into Social works, like Lawma, or any other social sector in a company or government parastatal.

I studied Geography And Planning (B.SC)
Is Geography a nice course to study in Nigeria

Answer
Me: NO....Forget the Planning attached. Its all propaganda.
Except you want to become a Geography Teacher. You are good to go.

Advice:
Study what will make you relevant in 30 years to come globally. You are not getting any younger. The world is evolving. Some courses are becoming Irrelevant by the day and should be scrapped. One day, u will clock 50.
You can't be 50 and be jumping from one job to another. You can't be 50 and still be sending CVs. Think of your future.

As for me, I want to switch to HEALTH (Medical Line).

P.S:
Nobody should mention Bus Admin. Nigeria has pushed over 90% of Graduates from all fields into business. Did they study Bus Admin...No. Did I study Bus Admin...No. Yet I do business.
You all should wake up. In Business, you learn from the experience. Not School.
That's my 2 Naira.

If you come out you'll be very good at marketing jobs since it's expected you'd already be trained rigorously on socializing with people easily but I'll rather go for Psychology the only useful course in Social sciences

hope this helps

Sociology doesn't train people on how to socialize with people. That's not what sociology does

Hello guys...I wanted to study political science but I've not been given admission so I was referred to study sociology but I don't know much about the course...
And where can I fit into in real life if I study sociology

Advise please

If you are planning to study Sociology, get close to NGO. It's useful there, especially in OVC programming. You can also do M.Sc in Demography from your Sociology degree, which is still very useful in NGO in the area of M&E. Outside of NGO, forget about studying that course in Nigeria.

If you are planning to study the following courses, please don't think that you will end up in your field. They are almost useless in Nigeria

Political Science
Sociology
Psychology
Microbiology
Biochemistry
Parasitology
Public Admin (very useless course)
Economics

Nigeria is gradually moving from what you studied to what skills you have and what you can do with them

Was studying sociology in lasu until my 200level wen I left to study another course in another school. Sociology is quite intresting and like what most people said its not a major difference when you finish from school. It’s about what you are capable of in terms of skill and so on. You can study it but be developing your self on somfin else as well over the years in school. You will surely thank me in the future
Re: Is Sociology A Nice Course To Study In Nigeria? by Ashirioluwa: 1:05pm On Apr 02, 2021
No course is useless. All you need to do is look at your environment, job market and job connections you have.

Even in US nowadays you need to look at job market before you go to school because some of the jobs might not be able to pay your bills.

I always advise my younger ones to go for maths and good science courses if they can cope with the studies because maths and science professions are more marketable both at home and at international job markets.

Unless you want to work or rather has STRONG connection to work in the force.

Most of these courses have no practical place after graduation unless you have another skill.

For those who do not know, there is sociology of everything. Sociology studies every aspect of human society ranging from health, security, politics, law, religion, psychology, crime, military, family, economy, history, demography and population, journalism, education, witchcraft, activism, entertainment among others. Sociology is less appreciated in this part of the world because we are still underdevelop, but it is of much relevance in economically advance countries of the world.
Don’t mind the educated illiterates spewing trash on something they are ignorant of.. To add to your point, there’s also medical sociology..

Every course is a good course to study in Nigeria, just find the one you can graduate with 2.1

Most Nigerian recruitments are not about your course but your CGPA.

I remember back then in school, our lecturers kept lying to us that as a sociologist you can work anywhere and everywhere, here we are after graduation, anywhere and everywhere will even ask you what sociology is all about like they have never heard of it before or it’s kind of strange course, you will start asking yourself if you haven’t made the wrong choice of coming for the interview......
You really on point, just like my cousin have been experiencing too. She's currently teaching with 27k monthly Salary, B.Sc holder. Just let's @Gamer999 be encouraging herself.

If you want to use your certificate to make big money in Nigeria, you go for medical sciences, laws and financial studies. Engineers do a bit better too especially the computer engineers. Others are subordinates.
Then u know nothing about Engineering...here in my company u need to see d figures both mechanical n electrical engineers make every two weeks offshore

It is a nice course
Just aim to be a first class student, with it you can work in companies, banks, hospitals, etc. Cuz most of employers needs counselors, advisers, etc.
With sociology, it is expected that you can socialize and understand humans well.
Don't listen to people's talk, you are good to go bro

Can I work in the government as a sociologist

I was about telling you same, you can work in a ministry as a social worker...the pay is very high compare to an administrative officer a social worker salary is huge, the only disadvantage is that unlike the admin officer that can be posted to different ministry at different interval you as a social worker will just be in your ministry until you retire. In some state a social worker with ND certificate receive up to 70 something thousand as salary now ask yourself how much will be the pay of a B.sc holder.
