With what i'm seeing fear dey catch me, if it is confirmed that jet was shot down by Bokoharam/ISWAP then serious wahala dey be that because it means that the terrorists have gotten hold of sophisticated missiles. This is a very big concern to the NAF and even the aviation sector in the north east. With a shoulder launched manpad any idiot can hide inside a gutter & bring down an aircraft, and with this development air sorties will seriously be hampered exposing ground trrops to waves upon waves of attack. This was exactly the approach used by the Talibans to deal with the Russians immediately they got hold of American supplied MANPADs they were shooting down Russian Helicopters almost everyday. It was really a game changer prior to that the Russians were using air superiority to decimate the Mujahedeens.
Honestly my "afraid" is seriously afraid because those mad men could smuggle a MANPAD into Maiduguri and bring down a commercial aircraft.

Even the Governor will think twice before flying over hot zones if it's established these guys are equipped with Surface to air missiles. To travel with motorcade will be more safer or he will just kuku sit down in Maiduguri and be getting reports.

If you look back at old air interdiction videos by NAF against JAS, there is almost always a part where you see terrorists firing at the military airplanes. They only got lucky this time around.

It is time Nigerian Air Force start using combat drones in the theatre. The terrorists are now aware they can bring down a fighter jet through proper planning. This might get worse.

The bastards just got lucky. With the air traffic in the northeast theater in the last 2 days, they would have attempted to shoot another one down if they were sure of the capability. It might be MANPAD, it might be AA guns either way, it shouldn't be much of a threat for NAF. They need only enforce high altitude flying as from now on.
Also, aircrafts should be sent on missions with countermeasures. MANPADs are no threat to the MI-35s.

And also, this is what you get when you want to do everything cheaply, most of the times they use cannons, rockets and dumb bombs to attack BH/ISWAP's high value targets and gun trucks with average results when missiles would do the work far more effectively and with minimal risks

I've seen the video too, the parts about the explosion were heavy editing, like bidexii said, they got lucky they were the first ones on the crash site, they took the opportunity for the photo-op.
Also from parts of the video, it looks to me at least one pilot ejected, from the snapshot you could see parts of his parachute

Seeing them scavenge the Personal effects of our beloved heroes brought tears to my eyes. You noticed the guy who spoke was speaking good English with a very clear accent before switching to Arabic. This video made me very angry, these bastar..ds must be bombarded out. Adieu to our gallant heroes

I think so too, probably he was finished off during his descent. Coz his phones and other effects, were not really too damaged. Even the copy of Signal they had was unscathed

The NAF is in need of more ISR platforms, the crash of the beechcraft and the ongoing maintenance of the ATR-42s has created a capacity gap that needs to be filled urgently. UK is decommissioning some of their platforms, NAF should look into getting some for the mean time.

I also pray NAF will make good use of the APKWS coming with the Tucanos to take out the mobility of the terrorists.

some people hear report me again and my first account ban till tomorrow.
from what i hear from a F7 pilot he say the jet was found yesterday evening after the phone pilot was track. he said that it was ISWAP that engage the jet, he said the pilot killed a top level iswap commander, some top government official from neighboring country , and some forgeein terriost from libya. he said that abot 4.53pm a unkwon plane show on the system. he said the alha jet was shoot down with a Manpad. he said it was a luck on iswap because the pilot where flying in very low attitide unkow to him that Iswap are waiting to ambush the jet. he said that the pilot ejected from the plane but shot dead by iswap the the second pilot whereabouts is unknown for now. they is a massive deployment of the naf speial force to north. may the soul of the pilot departed rest in peace.
